My family stopped here for a quick dinner on our way to the campground we were staying at. I have to say, I was a bit apprehensive after reading the reviews. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. Our waitress, Kim, was excellent! She was friendly and really on top of things. We never had an empty cup and she frequently checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Stuck at the Iron Skillet during one of the rare snowfalls in Kingman AZ area. After witnessing cars flying off the road-I pulled into Iron Skillet and waited for road conditions to improve. It is a classical diner located inside the gas station/truck stop. Large seating area, friendly waitress. Only few electric outlets and no WiFi. Food is typical of a truck stop. Hearty and greasy but that doesn't need to be bad in general. However here food was less than stellar! I ordered initially meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. Greens beans were under cooked and stringy. Meatloaf tasted as it was a week old. Mashed potato was great. Nonetheless - I sent it back. Instead I ordered a very simple entree. Two eggs over medium two sausage links and hash browns. Toast came with it...it was just all right. Mostly greasy - but I had nowhere to go, and this is the best they can do. My family and I stopped for dinner on our way home 3 of us got the American Burger and my daughter got an egg and hash breakfast plate. Food was great, service was great. A portion of my husband's burger was slightly less done than his preference but still eatable, mine and my daughters were cooked perfectly. The breakfast plate was good too. Menu was versatile but simple. Made choosing quick and easy. It was quiet, only a couple other patrons there at the time. Dining area was clean and well kept. We needed a quick lunch on a road trip. It's a typical Iron Skillet - the tables are a little worn and have a strange color because of the metal on the skillets. But otherwise clean. I just ate a terrific lunch!! I had a buffet of hot and cold foods. There was chicken leg and thigh, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, beans, corn. I had hot soup, that was so delicious, we had a couple of choices. The salad bar had all sorts of toppings, dressings, and the plates were chilled. I got potato salad, they had macaroni salad, and beans and rice. They had dessert too. It was only $11.59 per person for that buffet. I got coffee, had my own little pot at the table. I usually get the fish and chips basket because for some reason the fish here just tastes better than at any other iron Skillet Restaurant I've eaten at. Thank god for this restaurant and gas station in the middle of nowhere Arizona. We were on the way home from the Grand Canyon and for miles we hadn't passed a town where we could stop. To be honest, if we had just drove a little while longer, we would've reached a city with more restaurants and fast food joints as well. This restaurant caters mainly to truck drivers. There's a parking lot next to here where a lot of trucks stop. Food: There was a buffet option going on for $13.99. Other than that, it was diner style. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner 24/7 and the portions they serve you are fairly big. I got the Peppered Fish. It was seasoned really nicely but it wasn't cooked all the way. The middle still had some pink. :-/ It comes with a side of steamed vegetables and you can also add more sides (for a price) if you'd like. Dinner menu also comes with salad and soup bar. Service: Good. Our waitress was friendly and made us feel welcome. She cracked jokes and treated us warmly. I don't think I'd come back though. I was staying at the nearby RV park and after a day of travel I didn't feel like cooking. I wish I had cooked. My husband had a patty melt, of which he only ate half because it wasn't good. I used to frequent Iron Skillet on my commutes to Phoenix and back to Las Vegas, primarily to get fuel at Petro Truck Stop, but also later when I discovered Iron Skillet served Fried Chicken Livers with Bacon and Onions. Wow! Was that good. I know, some of you are thinking disgusting and yuck! But you have to try it... not here, though! When you walk into Petro Truck Stop... Iron Skillet is on the East side of the complex. The front of the restaurant is for "Driver's ONLY", with a very obvious sign. All civilians please walk to the rear of the restaurant... and seat yourself. AWFUL AWFUL I felt bad for the waitress as she seemed to be all alone. Tables all around remained dirty until 45 minutes later a slovenly looking fellow in a disgusting looking apron, came out and bussed like two tables and then disappeared again. My bacon was burnt. The food at the salad bar was rotten, I asked for hashed browns to sub for eggs and they gave me a tiny, tiny amount of hashed browns. They have Pepsi, no coke. The pancakes were rubbery. I ordered Hot tea and the pot they gave me the water in was broken and had no lid, so my tea did not remain hot for long. The mashed potatoes looked good, but they weren't. NO FREE WIFI. 1.5 hours to get our meal, no dishwasher or busboy so they ran out of utensils, missing one meal because it was given to someone else by accident, pancakes thin and burnt with HOLES in them, my salad lettuce was past due date and slathered in dressing , mens bathrooms filthy.
