My husband and I stopped into eat before his appointment. He ordered a build your own omelet with hash browns toast and coffee. I ordered the traditional breakfast, eggs scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, hash browns, sour dough toast. My eggs were not scrambled eggs, they were fried with the yolk mixed in with the whites, hash browns were barely okay, toast was lightly browned with butter that didn't melt. The coffee was very strong. We won't eat here again. read more

Being my last night in Texas (and probably the last time to boot), I wanted a good steak dinner. The name, Iron Skillet restaurant, was tickling the back of my brain. But, after 453 miles of driving today, I'm a little fuzzy brained. And, it wasn't until I got there, and saw that it was located in a truck stop, that I realized it was a chain restaurant vs an independent. Well, since I was already pretty hungry, I decided to give it a go. I ordered the petite sirloin, medium, with baked potato and sour cream, along with the salad bar. On the salad bar, everything was fresh and crisp. The balsamic vinaigrette dressing was very good. My server, Barbie, was very polite, despite being harried, as a place was quite crowded. When my meal arrived, the steak was cooked to perfection. However, the garlic toast was barely above room temperature. And baked potato, was a bit tough. Too bad they don't serve wine. It would have improved the meal. Also, while the steak was good, it did have a few tough spots in it. But, for $11.69, one cannot expect a 5 Star meal. read more

I really hate to give this restaurant only 2 stars, but honestly we have been eating here for holiday meals for years when our adult children and GRANDS aren't able to come in. Today our waitress informed us she came in "late to the game of waitressing" (which was obvious). The buffet was closed, but they offered a holiday meal- all you can eat plate. We ordered two of those, plus a chopped steak off of the menu. One hour later we still did not have our food and were told it was because of the chopped steak order. Such a disappointment...we have always lovedthe Iron Skillet, but probably will not go back until they reinstate the buffet. I beg you.....please go back to the buffet. We went to Iron Skillet in WEATHERFORD Texas it was great. Food was good and reasonably priced. My 10 year old had spaghetti. (He cleaned his plate) My mother had the shrimp basket which was wonderful and I ate the buffet with absolutely no complaints food was great. It was very clean. Service was phenomenal with Sierra as our waitress she was so up beat and bubbly continually asking if we needed anything and always with a smile. I haven't had that kind of service in upscale restaurants! 5 from me! read more

What a wonderful meal break at 2 a.m. !!! Our waitress with the Primo Perfume (loved it, by the way) was very friendly, courteous with true sweet Texas spirit! The service she provided was excellent. This place is a nondescript truck stop just outside ft worth. It had hands down the best French toast I've had in YEARS. I also really enjoyed their biscuits and dark gravy. The wait staff is attentive and lively Cadie was my server. I have worked management in food service for years. She is a special catch for any team to have the privilege of hiring her. Your typical truck stop greasy spoon cafe. Meals are quite expensive compared to very similar meals at other restaurants. Portions are generous and tasty with the exception of biscuits and gravy being too salty. (When will cooks realize customers can always add salt/pepper at the table, but can't remove salt/pepper). Waitress was friendly and attentive although some gruff to other staff about being understaffed could be heard. read more

In Texas it is totally acceptable to take your family to dinner at a Truck Stop and this Iron Skillet restaurant doubles as a truck stop, but has some of the most amazing food. Its a step or two above a greasy spoon diner type place with a HUGE menu. Everything I've had from here is AWESOME, and they are open 24/7 so on the way back to Mineral Wells from partying in Ft. Worth Iron Skillet is the place to stop and grab a bite when fast food wont cut it! The trust stop station has a great selection of must have items if your passing thru, and a neat gift shop. Their gas prices are pretty good too! read more

There's not a single bad thing I can say about this place. Amazing staff and food as well as very clean bathrooms. It is a truck stop restaurant, but no corners were cut with this place. It's raining and it's cold and gloomy. Nothing beats breakfast in a no frills diner. The Skillet is located in a super busy truckstop so watch where you are going in the parking lot. Trucks are turning everywhere, circling etc coming in and out. Nice cozy and clean, the ham and cheese omelet hit the spot. Had a greasy side of bacon too. Coffee jug is left on the table for you to help yourself. It's a nice touch. This place warms the heart and fills the belly for me. Reminds me of all of the road trips that I miss. Friendly truckers will want to chatter so be prepared. Overall nice breakfast and a great choice for your old school diner reminiscing. read more

Recently visited this restaurant with my mother and younger brother. The atmosphere was nothing special. But what is to expect from a restaurant built in to a convenience store and a Poppeye's? I did, though, enjoy the music that was playing. 60's and 70's music. I saw the buffet and it was definitely lacking. I walked down the entire buffet to get to our table and I didn't see a single thing that looked appealing. The menu was very diverse and offered so many different foods that it was hard to decide what I wanted. I like that. I hate small uninteresting menus. I ended up ordering a burger. *big surprise* The burger was good, but nothing to rave about. A bit dry, but good. I'd buy the burger again if I ever wound up back at this restaurant, but I'd never visit this restaurant by my own choice. The waitress was a bit stand-offish and un-personable at fist. I initiated conversation with her and she opened up. Turns out, she was actually pretty sweet. I think our meal cost us $24 or $25 dollars total. Not too bad. read more

Had a patty melt with mixed veggies as a side. The rye bread on the sandwich was probably the best I've ever had. It was soooo good. The veggies were perfectly done with just the right amount of crunch. Service was great despite their being busy. This is a very nice location. They also have a Popeye's Chicken here. read more

Haven't been here in a good while but nothing has changed other than the decor...food, service and seating was excellent! Manager Jessie oozes southern hospitality and James from the store was a joy. This is a must stop for me when I pass by. My go to meal is the corned beef hash ,eggs over easy, hash browns and rye toast. Dont forget the blackberry jam (seedless). I saw the buffet and it was definitely not worth 15$. I walked down the entire buffet to get to my table and I didn't see a single thing that looked delicious. But still I end up having a buffet that was the mistake I made. Most of the food was dried up especially the meat. You know truck drivers are people too. If you guys going to charge an arm and leg at least provide us a fresh and good meal. An end of the food when you paying than they ask you how was the meal even though you're tell them food sucks and then they say I'm sorry and they still want to charge you the full amount. Average Truckstop food with above average wait staff. Prices are average for a truckstop. Of course they realize they have a captive clientele. If there was a Cracker Barrel or another restaurant within walking distance, I would have gotten my morning exercise and gone elsewhere read more
