Headed to Mineral Wells, we drove 60 miles out of the way so I could try this place that I bookmarked SO long ago. At 1 pm Saturday afternoon, it was packed. She asked, Smoking or not? WOW! She said it was the last restaurant in Parker County to have smoking. Mike and I were both after a good chicken fry, and we got it! Excellent chicken fry! My corn nuggets and English pea salad were wonderful. Mike slammed down his onion rings and fried okra. But we saved room for brownie dessert, mine with chocolate icing and Mike's plain. A delightful country diner with good food and great prices. The daily lunch special was only $10.50 with a two sides and cake for dessert, was more than I could eat. Just had lunch here today with Dad. We generally dine at Mary's about once a week. We commonly have breakfast food--omelettes are good, as well as classics like bacon and eggs. There's nothing fancy on the menu, just small town diner classics--breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We both had fried catfish today for lunch, with sides like okra, pinto beans, etc. Mary's does a great job with the catfish--It's definitely the best around. Most dinners come with an included dessert--some kind of cake, most of the time. The place is pretty old-school...almost a little dumpy, but not enough to be a problem...just makes it feel nostalgic! The food is consistent, and the waitstaff are friendly and helpful. Bring cash if you want to avoid a credit card up-charge. Note, the room tot he far left upon entry still allows smoking, while the main room and room to the right are non-smoking--another old school feature, for better or worse! read more

We tried Mary's for breakfast. It was decent. We got seated right away and got coffee and water fast. We started out by sharing a cinnamon roll. It was just okay. A bit dry. My wife had the BEC (bacon, egg, cheese) sandwich. It came with chips. She enjoyed it. I got the Eggs with CFS (chicken fried steak) breakfast. I got sourdough toast and hash browns with it. I added a bit of salt to the CFS and I really enjoyed the entire meal. We're planning on returning to try their all-you-can-eat seafood (Thu, Fri, Sat nights) soon. read more

The food was good, not the best. The chicken fried chicken had grease on the bottom of the chicken, so wasn't that impressed. I have had better, the fried okra which is actually breaded okra could've been cooked longer. The fries were good, seasoned just right and the roll was good, just no butter for it. The peach cobbler was ok, wasn't something to brag about. I think I was ignored most of the time because I was alone because I had to wait for a to go box. Although the menu says breakfast served all day...you need to make sure the cook is in the mood to prepare it. Flavors were good, food was just cold. When our overworked waitress saw that butter wasn't melting on our pancakes, she asked the cook to make new ones. There was some explanation of the lunch changeover given as an excuse for the slow service. Since it was one o'clock and the obvious church crowd left as we were walking in, this didn't ring quite true. Service for the "regulars" seemed spot on. We love not too far from Mary's and have frequented it in the last couple years. It's a quant family owned/operated restaurant in Tin Top that brings crowds from near and far with some good home-style cooking and daily specials. Some people may have first seen it featured on the wildly popular Yellowstone series with some very interested visitors over the decades of it being operational. Regardless, we love visiting and have always enjoyed the food and service. Monica in particular has been our server and is always so kind and quick. I'll get the bad out of the way first. The men's restroom is terrible. It needs to be cleaned and maintained. Paint would help a lot. It did have a small electric space heaters so it wasn't cold. Now for the real stuff cause we did go there to eat. We got there at peak time for lunch and there were 10 of us. We were seated as soon as we arrived. Menu and drink orders were taken as we were setting down at the table. The order was taken and the food was served quickly. Classic small town diner experience. Genuine friendly and local. It was clear they are a favorite for some regulars who were overheard at breakfast planning what they were coming back to eat for lunch. Even better the local firefighters were having breakfast and either the cafe or a grateful patron took care of their check. This is exactly the type of place you love to find. Food was exactly what you would expect, a solid perfectly cooked omelette with a side of sausage cooked into it which was a nice touch. I was expecting it on the side but I actually prefer it the way it was, so they are even mind readers! Service was just right, friendly but not overbearing. Timely but not so fast you felt like they just wanted you out! This is a place I will visit again and again and not just for breakfast. Sorry no pictures. If you ride motorcycle, this is a great destination. The food is OK, especially if you dig the old-school compartmentalized plates. Most veggies seem to be canned, but the meat is generally OK.
