When it arrived, it was a club sandwich, with tons of tomatoes, in a regular dine-in platter. Always welcoming when you come in. It does a take a little bit to get your food when it's busy, but the fried treats are worth the wait. (Make sure you got that hour lunch break). I noticed a smell when I came in that smells like the grease trap or something that needs to be changed but I could look past it for those eggrolls. We stopped in after seeing the restaurant featured on the news, and overall, it was a nice experience. The wings were outstanding--flavorful and perfectly cooked. The steak and cheese egg rolls were also tasty, though a dipping sauce would have made them even better. I'm a French fry person, and I have to say, these fries did not disappoint--they were delicious. The pizza had a great flavor, though I personally would have preferred the dough to be a bit more crisp on the bottom. One challenge we had was the location of our table near the restroom. Unfortunately, there was a noticeable odor while dining, which caused us to move seats. On a cooler day, sitting outside would have been a great option. Service-wise, our waitress was very kind and attentive, but she was the only one working the entire floor. This understandably slowed down the pace of food coming out, but she handled it with professionalism. All in all, the food was enjoyable, and with just a few adjustments--like crispier pizza dough, a dipping sauce for the egg rolls, and perhaps better airflow near the restroom--the dining experience would be even better. We ate there 9/23/2023. We had the steak and cheese egg rolls as an appetizer. The dough was crispy, light, and airy. The meat was tender. The dipping sauce was outstanding! It seemed to have a sweet,Thai chili profile. I had the big daddy pizza, 12". I did add the hot, honey drizzle over my pizza but there wasn't enough of it. The toppings were tasty. I don't expect a homemade crust from a non-pizzaeria type restaurant and this wasn't. My wife had a cheese burger. It was decent, not the best burger she ever had but not the worst. I wanted to like this joint more than I did. Stopped by to pick up lunch for a couple of co-workers. Ordered a pizza and a salad, to-go. It took 50 minutes for the order to be ready! Now, that's not awful-awful when they're busy, but there were only about 3 tables with diners in the whole place. Waiting was uncomfortable because there are 11 (!) TVs going, plus music blaring from the sound system, causing the handful of patrons to have to shout over the background noise to converse. Prices were right. Staff was super friendly and helpful. (Hi, Chris!) Place was clean. The pizza was very good, but the salad had many, many inedible wilted pieces of "lettuce" (I hope?). If we'd dined in we would have sent it back, but it had been brought to the office and wasn't worth the hassle to deal with an exchange. On the positive side, this place has a great "neighborhood dive bar" vibe going for it, and I can understand why locals in the area might make this their regular hangout. Nondescript neighborhood pizza spot that's a sports bar in the heart of Manchester, but this is some banging pizza! I tried the Hawaiian, veggie and white, and they were all amazing. Oddly enough, the veggie may have been my favorite, and I'm not a vegetarian. Service was friendly and timely. Since moving to the Manchester area, eating at this pizza Grill has been a once a week thing. My favorite meal to order here is the big daddy pizza. The price is an expensive and they give out goo size portions. I also had the nachos and the fried potato skins. This place definitely has some of the best bar food in the Richmond area. But that was years ago so I was sorted geeked to try it out as I've heard good reviews recently. She ordered a medium cheese, meat lovers and a veggie. Took about 30 mins and they were ready. Disappointed to say the least. I didn't get photos of the other pies but I did manage to snap a shot of the slices of veggie that I had. The dough was undercooked and with the loads of toppings I had to use a fork and knife to eat it. I'm all for toppings but I'd also prefer to lift the slice to eat it. I hate to judge a place quickly when walking in, but they had a crazy night the prior night. The manager was telling us how busy it was and he waited until the morning to clean up, which was fine. It was just dirty and disorganized when we first came in, but they had everything cleaned up by the time we were leaving. Anyways, we ended up getting fried pickles for an appetizer, and they were good. They were really battered which was amazing because too lightly battered fried pickles are the worst. I got a calzone with bacon, meatballs, green peppers, jalapeños, and mushrooms and maaaaaaaaaan it was amazing. AND massive, like it was enough to feed three, and that isn't an exaggeration. It was only $13, too. It was amazing, cooked so perfectly and packed full of great ingredients. I'd highly recommend getting a calzone if you go. Also, my mom got a pizza and it looked amazing, but I was too full to try. We got the tots, calamari basket, and three 16" pizzas between 6 people, and it was PLENTY. We had leftovers of course. But it only came out to be about $16 per person. Great deal! The tots and calamari were delicious and crispy. Didn't enjoy the Chesapeake Bay/crab one as much since it was a little dry. Needed some more sauce or aioli. Just moved to the Manchester hood a few weeks ago; Ironclad is a block from my apt and I was hoping it may be a go-to. It will be, when I'm tired and there's nothing in the fridge. But this is just basic pizza. I think the four star ratings are a reflection of the nearby loft denizens' need for a local place to hang, and post-Covid, this would be a fun neighborhood joint with its outdoor patio and dive bar vibe. But good crust is so essential to good pizza. And floppy, soggy crust that sags at the tip even when folded - no. Sorry. If this crust is handmade then there's something wrong with the ingredients...or it just hasn't been spun enough. Chewy and doughy. The sauce was decent, and to be fair, it reheated well, I think I enjoyed it more out of the microwave the next day. So treat it for what it is, a friendly neighborhood joint that serves perfectly adequate food and drink when you don't have the energy or time to venture outta the hood. When we first ordered water for my 13 year old and then me a beer, the bartender at 12 pm, told him to go get it at the cooler. I'm like fair enough because I served tables for a long ass time at bars and restaurants and this felt like a dive bar-- cool whatever. Once he saw us ordering multiple things, the bartender ended up bringing him a water in a real glass- cool. The mozzarella sticks (hard to fuck up) were fire. Super good, as was the pizza,even with the slightly soggy crust, with tip we spent $40. My second time there, my friend took me. We sat outside called another friend there and got the vegetarian pizza. It was super good and the crust was PERFECT. The atmosphere is weird though. No one serves you there per se or makes it obvious that anything is ready. Even my first time there, I couldn't tell you if I was supposed to seat myself, I was supposed to serve myself.... what??!!!!! I'm going to tip you!!!! Even if you suck I"m going to tip 20%. My friend doesn't drink that much. We hung out at my house and then went here. It was $6.37 for a rail drink of bourbon and diet you could pick up yourself at the bar on a Friday evening -- (was it Old Crow, Southern Gentleman, Jim Beam -- WTF KNOws? ) and then the tab was fucked up. One of my favorite pizzas in the city! I usually just order take out but a few of my friends sat down the eat the other day. They had multiple football games on the many TVs. The mirror inforont of me let me watch 4 different NFL games while I ate. The pizza was so cheesy as always and the crust is always soft! I had a special pizza, half beef pineapple, onion (not my side) and half veggie. There was a great playlist and at one point the entire resturant was singing christmas songs and Tevin Campbell! This is a great little neighborhood bar that serves great pizza and even better breadsticks. It definitely has a bit of a "Cheers" vibe going on to the extent that the majority of patrons seem to be regulars that are local to the neighborhood. With that said, I've never felt unwelcome here, even when we were new to the area. Back to the breadsticks...I grew up in Indiana where breadsticks are serious business. In fact, no one ever ordered pizza without also ordering breadsticks. This was a way of life that I didn't realize was a regional phenomenon until I moved away from the midwest and discovered how difficult it is to find any pizza places that serve breadsticks. And no, garlic knots are not an acceptable substitution. I finally accepted that I would likely never be able to order cheese sauce at a pizza place outside of my home state, but I couldn't give up my quest for breadsticks so easily. When the husband and I saw that Ironclad had them on the menu, we had to investigate. As a breadstick connoisseur, I can tell you that these breadsticks are some of the best I've ever had. They aren't the traditional breadsticks that I'm used to -- more of a cross between the kind of fried dough you'd find at a fair ground and normal breadsticks -- and I am 100% here for it. Pizza is delicious, staff is always friendly and inviting. I haven't tried anything else on the menu but was told some of the other food on the menus wasn't that good. I did try a cupcake and it was two pieces of hair on it. I would definitely recommend this place for pizza, hands down! Manchester needed a good pizza place :). Update: I'm really starting to second guess this place now thats it's been open for awhile. They close early on random days like today with no notice and sometimes the pizza taste different since the sauce is made daily (forgetting ingredients on occasion). I'm really happy to have this place walking distance from home! There's nothing fancy about it, but the food is actually pretty good plus they have my favorite beer (COTU Pocahoptus) so I'm sold. Their buffalo chicken wrap is really solid. I also love the personal sized pizzas- for 6 or 7 bucks, you get a solid meal. Pizza crust is nice and thick and pizza is not overly greasy. Only issue is that it gets fairly busy at night and there's generally only one person manning the bar, inside and outside dining areas.
