The first time I stopped there there were many people in front of me and I thought it would be a long wait. Not so, they are fast and helpful. The eating area is small but seems very inviting. I should go just to get a pastry and a cappuccino and read the paper. The aroma is heavenly. Although I am quite a distance, if I wanted pastries I would make the drive. Isabelle et Vincent French Bakery is as close as you are going to get to being in France in the Fairfield area. I have sampled the breads and croissants before and this morning I went for breakfast with my girlfriend. It was simple and delightful. We started with the spinach quiche that had an interesting mix of cheese. They were warmed in the oven and had a great goat cheese flavor. I had a great latte, that was strong and tasty. Samantha chose from a variety of teas. We continued on to the pain aux chocolat that were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We only wish we had requested them to be warmed as well. We finished things off with some mini eclairs, an amazing raspberry and blueberry covered tarte, and a donut that reminded me of a thick, doughy churro. Everything was delicious. The inside is a beautiful layout that provides more room for guests than it seems at first glance. We sat at the large table with an assortment of other guests. We saw an advertisement for a Wednesday afternoon "French Conversation" time (from 1:00-2:00) for people to practice their French. In the back they had started making chocolate Easter bunnies for the upcoming holiday. I have pics of all that I mentioned here, so take a look. This is an amazing place! Authentic French bakery by a French couple that ran a bakery in France for 10+years them moved to CT 7 years ago. Croissants -outstanding, plain, almonds and chocolate au pan, the mini quiches are fresh tasty and fluffy, olive and cheese and rosemary baguettes are yummy, coffee is really good. 1.5 pounds of assorted amazing biscuits. It made our morning to find it after a red eye flight and 3 hrs sleep, I wish I can have such a bakery in our neighborhood! Simply outstanding!! I came in with my family hoping to pick up only macarons but ended up ordering a whole bunch of goods. From the outside, the bakery looked like an old video store but once you walked in, the smell of pastries will draw your hands to your wallet. Yes!!!! Goooo! Gooo hungry!!! The most delicious quiches, breads, french pastries etc... Whenever we are in need of a celebratory array of desserts, this is the place we go. It is a bit of a drive for us but totally worth it. There's not a single thing we have tried that wasn't beyond wonderful. Their Macarons have gorgeous deep flavors. My personal favorites are the raspberry and the tiramisu flavors. Everything is beautifully displayed and the french pastries are so pretty. Total eye candy and just as beautiful on the tongue. I wish Yelp had a half-star option, because I'd give this place 3 1/2 stars. However, I don't feel compelled to give it four stars. There are a few items here that are excellent, definitely five star, such as the sour cherry tart, and some of the special Easter desserts. They make a cake shaped like a lamb at Easter which is wonderful. My reason for a hesitant rating is that a vast majority of items in this shop all have the same overwhelming taste of shortening, a taste which you can also smell throughout the bakery. It's not a bad taste, but I don't want my ham tart to taste like my croissant that tastes like my chocolate cake. Speaking of chocolate, they make chocolates in house. Forget it. They're well below average. Overall, its a decent bakery, especially in a pinch, and I do recommend making a trip there around the holidays, especially Easter. read more

OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEE THIS PLACE from the moment you walk in you are whisked away into a cute little Parisian cafe with the most amazingggg bakery butter pastry smells you can only dream of. We ordered a lot hahaha and for those saying it's pricey, it's really not bad because each pastry is a giant monster!! We got the chocolate almond croissant, raspberry jam filled beignet (only on weekends!), cheese danish, Napoleon (flakey pastry layers with the most amazing cream that's so creamy but not at all overly sugary), and palmier (really nice!!). Everything was delicious, we warmed them up in the oven a bit when we got home (pro tip) but my favorites were the Napoleon because it was so flakey and the cream was decadent in a fills ur mouth with homemade cream kind of way in the best way possible and wasn't sugary at all which is nice compared to usual American desserts that are way too sugary, the palmier was simple but buttery and the sugar crystals gave a nice texture crunch, and finally the raspberry filled beignet was heavenlyyyy I ate half of it haha wow it was huge the raspberry jam thooo was not artificial tasting at all and it felt homemade even if it wasn't y'all got me but I'm not mad about it and the beignet was doughy and fluffy and ugh everything here was amazing!! Next time I vow to get like 3 of their baguettes cuz everyone was getting them and I think that's another of their specialties I just didn't have it in me to consume 5 pastries and a whole stick brick of bread too. Even I have my limits. Which is surprising with food. But lemme tell you I had so much of this sugary pastry buttery goodness and I felt like I was transported to some other worldly place and it was freaking delightful. I love this place! The best baguette in Fairfield. We have tried many of their sweets and there are lots more to go. It is almost too much to choose from when you stand in front of the display cases. I find it best to have a plan and stick to it. Otherwise you may end up with a really big box you were not expecting to buy. We usually get a plain baguette and another bread of some kind - they have some with fruit or nuts or different flours/flavors. I then like to select something with chocolate, the coconut macaroons are huge and delicious, the pain au chocolate are always great. We have tried a couple of different eclairs that were also delicious. After that grab a couple of cookies or other pastries. Enough... before it gets too big, the bill that is. This is a serious French patisserie with unbelievably beautiful baked goods. We only go here for special occasions for two reasons -- it's expensive and we end up eating too much. But everything I've tried here is delicious. The chocolate croissants (or pain au chocolat) are amazing, just the right ratio of chocolate to pastry. Also true to size I remember from France, not super sized for Americans. The macaroons are wonderful as is the fruit tart. I haven't tried any yet, but they have an amazing selection of small quiches in unique flavors. I asked and you can special order a larger one for family dinner. Coffee also really good. PLEASE READ THIS AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF IF YOU WANT TO GIVE THIS MAN A PENNY I preordered breads, cakes and pastries, for a couple of weekend parties. When I went to pick them up, I was informed some of what I ordered was not made. I asked why no one contacted me to tell me, the sales girl just shrugged her shoulders. I was irritated, but needed to get what I needed for my events. I went on to select many other things for my weekend parties, to make up for missing items, as well as add to my original order. I got to the register and wanted to make sure, the items I prepaid for, which were missing, I was credited for. The sales girl looks at a man standing next to her, and repeats what I just said. He says "why would I do that, didn't she order a whole bunch of other things?" I didn't understand the relevance, but I looked over and asked if he was the manager. I wanted to inquire why on a preorder which is prepaid, if an item is not going to be available, someone would not have called me. I didn't get the chance because as soon as he said " no, I am the owner" he stuck his hand in my face and said " I don't want to hear anything you have to say. I didn't like your attitude the minute you walked in the bakery." This person, named Mike Saulsberry, Owner, went on to scream at me that I was the most entitled person he knew, for expecting items to be here just because I wanted them. That I was a horrible person, and everyone knew it. That he couldn't care less if I now purchased these items or not, someone else would be right behind me to buy them, plus a whole bunch of other choice insults. I had ordered over $200 worth of items for several parties over the weekend. I was beyond shocked and traumatized by this unprovoked, hatred being spewed my way, by an owner of a business and complete stranger, This man should not be allowed to interact with the public! His staff may produce delicious bakery items, but it is definitely not worth the risk of being verbally assaulted by an unhinged human. That is my choice, you of course should make your own. But if you make the unwise decision to walk in those doors, make sure you are prepared to be, big sucker punched, it comes out of nowhere. If I had behaved so poorly, why didn't you come to the aid of this lovely sales person before I picked out another half a dozen other desserts and had stepped to the register to purchase them? The only tears, were mine after you unleashed your hate and venom on me. It is you who called me names and you who berated me and created a scene. As you recall your employee went after me when I left in tears, and disbelief as to what was happening. Please stop trying to malign me and take responsibility for your own actions. read more

When you walk into a space you can immediately tell if the owners actually "care" about the business and their employees by their demeanor and expressions on their faces. Sadly, since the original owners sold the business, it seems like the atmosphere is glum, stressful and all about the money and not about the product, the customer's experience or the employees. I would recommend it for a quick sweet bite if the employees weren't eating pastries with their hands at the prep table behind the counter while working. At first I thought maybe they were on break or the manager was not in but that was not the case. They were eating without washing their hands between helping clean trays and serve customers. The reviews were mostly good so I went! I know why check the dates! Old good reviews make the score! Being french I was expecting a nice opera and a nice fraisier or even religieuse au café. unfortunately I cannot either recommande or go back. We spent 30$ for breakfast: 3 pastries and 3 hot drinks... pastries were not good.. proofing wasn't well done and the almond croissant tasted like over fermented yeast with no layers... and no flakiness. The chocolate croissant was also so disappointing! As for desserts we also spent 30$ for 6 cakes - no better! Everything was either buttercream vanilla or chocolate. The buttercream tasted like it had remained in a fridge for a few days with an old fridge flavor. There was génoise in a few desserts and it was dry and the cakes were not tasty. The pastry cream in the strawberry tarte was so white... probably not home made or made using powder custard. As for a chocolatier, the chocolate cakes were also soooo disappointing. Bland and too sweet. For a french bakery I would have expected a crispy short crust pastry for the strawberry tarte, and a nice lemon flavor for the butter cream and lemon cake... well my mistake... I guess the pretense of being french is sufficient to overcharge for pastries that are of a lower quality than what we can find at Wholefoods... and which are probably prepared twice a Week and remain in a fridge for long periods of time. I have been coming here for several years. There is not a lot of options for French Bakeries in the area. Service is always spotty. They higher a lot teens to work the front counter so service can be spotty at times. Croissants are usually fresh. Goat cheese and spinach quiche is always a good option. They do not make good coffee here. If your a coffee fanatic you will be disappointed. One thing that has been mentioned is this place is overpriced. That is an understatement It borders on gouging. Two small quiches, cookie $21.00. You put a place like Tartine in the area this place doesn't last a month. With lack of option's of good bakeries in Fairfield County I guess they are able to maintain these prices with average product. read more
