Just moved to CT from Montclair, NJ so I was happy to find a French bakery in my new area as I started to miss Montclair French friendly culture. Also while I'm not a baked good expert I like to believe i know authentic French baked goods when I taste it as I grew up in France for the first 18 yrs of my life. I came in to I&V and ordered: 1 palmier (way too hard) 2 chaussons aux pommes (in addition to looking like empanadas, they had big pieces of apples and cinnamon taste) 2 almond croissants (these are usually my husband's favorite and it told me he had better from Whole Foods . 2 crodonuts (my first time having that, I don't know what it's supposed to taste like so I can even give accurate feedback; I just know I didn't like it) 1 tiramisu (the only thing that tasted delicious). One of the cutest bakeries I've ever been to. Such a large selection of pastries it's hard to decide what to get! They have everything from croissants to cronuts to macarons and everything is delicious. I got an iced latte as well - no sweetener needed, the coffee has great taste. For everyday luxury or special occasions This is the best of the best The breads all look and smell crazy delicious but sweets are more my thing ! The elephant ears are Amazing . They make them in mini size and regular I buy the mini and convince myself they are less fattening ! My mother in law who lives in New Jersey requests them whenever we visit . I went there all the time when the original owners had it. After it was sold, the products were still terrific. I just went this morning for a plain croissant , an almond croissant, and a beniget (jelly filled type donut) They were terrible - had to throw them out. The donut was over cooked, the almond croissant was dry and had a thin smear of almond filling. The plain croissant was horrible - dry and poorly formed. I've had better frozen croissants. Not sure if they changed the recipes, the bakers, or whatever. Aside from the poor quality, it was expensive - $13 + for 3 pieces of baked goods only good for the trash - which is where they went. What a shame. I used to recommend this bakery to many friends - no longer. A long time customer who will never return. read more

Just tried this bakery for the first time. Had never heard of it before but happened to pass by and see it and stopped in. It is a beautiful place and the breads and pastries are displayed beautifully. I ordered half a pound of assorted cookies. I'm torn. Some of the cookies were wonderful and some of them just missed the mark somehow. It seems like a lot of their cookies are dipped partially in a dark chocolate. This chocolate is very, very good but I think the chocolate helps to compensate somehow for the lackluster of the rest of the cookies. I ordered a Linzer Tart and it looked gorgeous! I couldn't believe it because it actually tasted stale. What a disappointment. I really want to love this place because it's beautiful and everything looks great, but I think it needs work. Cookies are $35 a pound. I just don't think these cookies warranted that kind of price. Another thing I noticed was that there was a big table in one of the seating areas. The other seating area there were small tables. I didn't sit in and eat there but I noticed the large table was taken up by a family. I thought that was odd. The seating should be broken up into small places for many people and not one large space for one family. Kind of strange. It made it feel unwelcoming and like you were intruding upon a family eating their food. It was out of place. read more

It was my first time going to Isabelle Et Vincent and it was a great "french pastry shop" experience! The layout and design of the place was warm and welcoming, just like the workers there. But I dont know if this is a spot for me to come back again. Yeah, the place has a variety of option to pick from such as bread, sweets/desserts and pastry that is freshly baked but it is a bit pricey and not that mind-blowing for your taste buds. I have been coming here for years and this is a top bakery for a reason! The new owners are so friendly and it's amazing that all of my favorites taste exactly the same as when Isabelle and Vincent made them. The almond croissants are my absolute favorite (better than I've had in Paris). I also love their chocolate mousse cup and the mushroom and goat cheese quiche. They've got a great selection of cookies and chocolates that are all made in house and make great gifts. Well, I was very messed up with the reviews. I somehow don't have a good connection with French bakeries. Very good location spot on to find it a nice place to hang out for a pastry and coffee as I thought but Nahhh!! I took a quiche and coffee. I sipped my coffee down 20 minutes and I dont get any quiche I asked the person if she forgot and she handded me a quiche which was burnt on the crust she politely took it and she gave me another which was cold it was awful I really like quiche when its warm and not cold. Wonderful bakery.Terrible experience. Several women behind the counter-no one responded to me.Finally a woman responded & had difficulty hearing me due to noise in the background. I ordered 22 macarons and she told me that I owed $75. Somewhere I had seen that they were around 2.20 each. I just told her to explain how that came out to 75. This went back and forth for awhile and I wound up paying 53. and change. Her attitude during the entire interaction was not great.She did apologize at the end. Update: The bakery was sold back in the fall. Isabelle & Vincent themselves, the original owners, returned to France. As I understand it, they were intent on finding new proprietors who shared the same passion for French baking as they did. I am happy to say that several months after the changeover, the quality has not slipped one inch. The new owners, I don't know their names, but the husband and wife are both there frequently, are truly doing justice to an established name in Fairfield! As is often the case when a business changes hands, I was a little reluctant but I am pleased that IeV continues to be my favorite. As always, the baguettes are the best part - never leave that place without one under your arm! read more

If you want fresh and phenomenal pastries, croissants and breads then Isabelle is where you want to go! This place is awesome.

It pains me to leave this review, but my guarded optimism when I et V was sold is gone. Croissants are now chewy rolls. No more shattering crust, no more melt-in-your-mouth center. they're not even crescent shaped Anymore. Upon my complaint and my asking if the recipe had been changed, I was handed another identical roll. I was brusquely told that the recipe had not been changed by a man who then turned on his heel and walked away so I couldn't even get my $4 back. If chewy rolls and grotesque, very American cookies are what you think a formerly great French bakery should offer, go and enjoy. For the rest of us, RIP Isabelle et Vincent. read more

Was so happy to finally get the chance to stop in here early this morning. Picked up some almond and plain crosswinds which were excellent. The coffee was great as well. The staff was so friendly. OMG this place is the BEST! I lived in Paris 10 years and 25 years in Mahattan some of the stuff in this place is even better then Paris Pâtisseries. Ordered an opera cake and got --- I don't know what --- a chocolate mousse? So angry I brought my own birthday cake back ON my birthday to them and got refunded. Then I get a history of Alsace Lorraine and "their" version of opera cake and that what I got was an opera cake. What I really got was a chocolate mousse AND talked down to like I've never eaten at a French bakery anywhere in the US or the 10 European countries I've lived/visited. I have seen opera cake, you can't convince me. I should have been concerned when I was told he couldn't make the meringue for dacquoise...and he's from a "top-level" French baking school? Don't mistake me, what they sell tastes good and is closer to real French baking than what you can get elsewhere. But when someone orders something and you drop the ball, don't give them some cock and bull story and act like the customer has no idea what they ordered. So uncool...so, so, so uncool.... read more

Stopped in for a quick snack, there were lots of selections. Def pricey (for example a mini quiche is about 6 bucks. However I'd pay more for quality goods. Looks really cute inside and service is friendly. I wish the items had a name or description because I had to ask what each thing was because nothing was labeled. I was overwhelmed So I ended up getting a small cinnamon sugar croissant donut for $2.65. It was definetly hard, not soft at all. But I did like the sugar coating.
