This review is for the food that we had last week when we had dinner and it would have been a 3 until tonight. We walked over from the Pines because they said they were open until 8pm and when we walk in at 702pm the guy that greeted us said they close the kitchen and said that 8pm was only for drinks. He then recommended that we go have pizza. On another note that the one pizza and pasta we had were excellent t and they had 5 tables full 4 different getting food to go during our 30 minute meal. Wake up Fire Island business owners that means some money is to be made. The island still has a lot of people here that are now ordering from Sayville thanks to food now being delivered. read more

After a little bingo next door, a group of us went for a nice bite. The friendly staff seated us by the water. We were five, but they made room for us. They brought us menus and water before coming for the drink order. We shared the Thai calamari and spinach dip. The chips were like fried wontons. A crowd pleaser. For dinner, Jen S. and I shared the lobster roll sliders and the fish and chips. The lobster roll sliders were okay. The fish came like a battered churro. It was the best fried fish we had in a while. Just crisp and good. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. It's a little pricey, but what isn't there. I would go again. read more

No one really comes to Cherry Grove on Fire Island for fine cuisine. Most of the food is passable - but one restaurant really stands out for a combination of inedible crap at really high prices - even high by Fire Island standards. That restaurant is Island Breeze. I try every year to see if it gets any better - but it just seems to get worse. The location really can't be beat - it has a beautiful view of the bay - and the interior is really lovely. I've had inept and very good service depending on who they hire for the season. This last experience though may have finally, FINALLY made me swear off ever ordering food here. Recently - we decided to try Island Breeze yet again for brunch this time, simply because the other places were full up. Island Breeze was virtually empty at noon. There's a clue. First thing that we noticed was that every piece of silverware was dirty. Not a few spots or anything - I mean crusted over with dried egg or cheese. We got replacements that were almost just as dirty (and one fork bent beyond use)...and there was no spoon is sight when the coffee came. The coffee was terrible - but many an OK restaurant has served crappy coffee and maybe the dishwasher was broken - who knows? We bravely moved on. Next up - the western omelets we ordered were the most revolting egg-like concoction I've ever seen. I mean, how does someone mess up eggs? The texture was exactly like ground up styrofoam bits (although styrofoam has more flavor) - and it was loosely piled onto the plate with a few bits of diced peppers and onions. I can tell you now as someone who has sampled every kind of egg dish - that these were really damn close to the texture and flavor of powdered eggs. I have no idea if that is what they used - but it was exactly like something you'd get in an old army slop tray. The potatoes that came with it looked like they were poured straight from a freezer bad and over cooked to little dark brown bits. There was no toast or any bread-like product (brunch without toast, really?) All of this for $22.99 each! Our adorable waiter was very sweet and attentive, so we tipped him well and vowed to never bother again. Have a drink here and enjoy the view - but never EVER eat here. The food is better anywhere else... seriously!!! read more

It's not easy to mess up wings but they somehow succeeded and the fried calamari was all breading and devoid of calamari. 2 small draught beers, 1 order of wings and one order of calamari came to over $80. The service is excellent! Our waiter was brilliant and made our visit more enjoyable. The decor is bright and fresh, and the food was delicious! We sat outside on the patio overlooking the bay and enjoyed a late lunch. This was a long walk for us from Ocean Beach but definitely worth it. Of course, we stopped at many places along the way including dips in the ocean but this restaurant was the prize. The next time, I think we'll take a water taxi because we absolutely want to come back. read more

Charming waterside restaurant hard by the Cheery Grove harbor. Rustic and noisy with music and patrons, especially inside. More serene outside. Food is average, but atmosphere is great and staff very efficient and friendly. Calamari with penut aside was a tad dry, but the meatloaf and fish & chips were better. read more

So.. I went to cherry grove for the day, (I grew up on fire island my whole life) I usually go to Davis, but anyways.. I was fishing on the dock (not casting) just simply dropping a line with a weight next to the dock to catch blow fish. I was fishing next to this restaurant for 15-20 minutes catching fish left & right. Then all of a sudden a waitress with dark brown hair (she refused to give her name) exact words to me were (um can you like do that somewhere else we have customers." Excuse me? First of all NO ONE was sitting in their out door dinning area except one person on the OTHER side. I was literally sitting fishing reading there board for drink specials that I may add I was GOING to purchase until my encounter with this rude young lady.. but wait it gets better. I simply went down the dock and respected her wishes. A hour later I was walking out of cherrys with two drinks she happens to pass me the same time and says "I hope you drop those drinks." Excuse me ? This is not someone people should have working customer service who are rude and disrespectful. As many times as me and my family goes to cherry grove, we will NEVER go back to this place. We will only be going to cherries for now on, please check your employees as customer service goes a VERY long way. Makes sense now why they were dead while cherries was packed on the other hand. read more

Good location right near the ferry and water taxi dock. A good place to wet your whistle after hiking from Ocean Beach through the Sunken Forest, Sailor's Haven and Cherry Grove while waiting for the water taxi back to Seaview ($12 per person for the taxi). Had buffalo wings and the Thai Calamari. Both were good. Fairly expensive, but then most everything on Fire Island is. Beers $8 - $10, appys $12 - $16, Entrees $15 - 22. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. One of the WORST places I have ever got food from. Every single utensil was dirty. Tables had crumbs on it, and it wasn't just my table. They weren't busy, just lazy. The staff was ok, I had no issues with the service. Onion soup was pretty standard, nothing special. The entree however was the Chicken Mona Lisa. Breaded chicken, over mashed potatoes, with ham and asparagus. Chicken was so flattened and over cooked it was hard. Breaking was burnt and there was so much liquid on the plate the breading dissolved off the bottom of the chicken. Asparagus was so small almost nonexistent as well as soggy. I wouldn't eat this dish there if the paid me $5 let alone for the $29 they charge. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go there unless its to get free water !! read more

We recently celebrated my husbands 50th birthday at The Island Breeze. Planning a decent sized party can be stressful to say the least but Chef Anthony made the entire process effortless. From planning a menu within our budget to having a rain or shine space available with water views, Anthony had all the bases covered. When I arrived before the party the staff was already on hand and eager to help me decorate... and they did an awesome job. Within an hour we were party ready! The entire party was executed on time and flawlessly. From the appetizers to the entrees to the bar service, our guests were very pleased with the food and excellent service provided. This place earns my most-improved award: Time was, the cuisine here was reheated meals sailed over from the mainland grocery stores, served alongside a blister-pack of Ken's Steakhouse salad dressing. Now, there is an honest-to-god kitchen plating lobster sliders, fun salads, seafood, etc, and it tastes fresh and novel. With the declining stars of other Cherry Grove restaurants (i.e. The Sandcastle), the Island Breeze has become a favorite of ours during the summer season. read more

we arrived for dinner with friends & ordered drinks. We where informed that they did not have the ingredients for the drink.Order a bottle of white wine. We were told they were out of that wine, but they had another bottle for ten dollars more. Wine came to the table warm. We ordered appetizers they came to the table. We informed them the drinks were not correct. They took back the drinks & but a shot glass in the top of the drink with the wrong liquor. It was suppose to have Grand M. in the straw so I asked the waiter and he said he would take care of it...no follow up, he took care of nothing. The turkey burger was frozen and the bun was stale. Matt C was our Server both days. we had dinner Sat night which was little crazy busy but we didn't have to ask for anything he either had it on the table before food or was continuously checking on us to see if needed anything!! he suggested the mussel pot scampi it was great & told us to get the Ribeye seasoned it was excellent hats off to the new Chefs !! We had a nice time here, and might come back. It's right off the ferry so the Owner/Manager does his best to funnel people straight into the restaurant with promises of $2 Coors Light. I tip my hat to him for the hustle. We shared a mussel pot ($16), and enjoyed how large and plump the mussels were. The bread that came with it was also tasty. There were a few dud mussels at the bottom of the pot, so i wish those were sifted through more carefully, but not enough to complain about. Careful, it can get expensive. The whisky we had later in the day was $13. For a nice welcome appetizer and drink check this place out. read more

The Island Breeze has an amazing wait staff, awesome bartenders and great food. However, the management could use some work. My friend and I worked there this summer and gave an adequate amount of notice before resigning. We were not compensated for the last 3 weeks of work even after trying to contact the general manager, Octavio, multiple times. It's not about the amount of money that was lost, it's about being paid for the work that you do. Anyone should think twice before working for a restaurant that is willing to treat their employees this way. read more

I attended a private party at the Island Breeze recently, and I cannot say enough about how awesome the experience was. I need to start by saying that the staff is beyond amazing. Every single staff member was highly attentive and friendly. There was never a moment where you had an empty hand - there was always someone with a cocktail or hors d'ouvre waiting for you - and with a smile. I loved the Island Breeze shot! The food was phenomenal, particularly the fried macaroni and cheese and chicken cordon bleu balls - melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I also loved the beautiful antipasto plate and flank steak with some chile sauce on the side. The DJ/music at the party was also amazing - everyone was dancing all night. And you can't ask for a better atmosphere - on the water as the sun is setting...and it's literally steps away from the ferry.
