We sat ourselves and perused the menu. The server came by and enumerated the specials, but I was fixated on Braise your Belly. We also got me-mah's mac and cheese, and started off with the Roasted Garlic Northern Bean Dip and the Minestrone soup. The Bean Dip starter was fantastic. All the little things you need for a perfect bite. A scoop of bean dip on a toasted pita wedge, stick a couple of kalamata olives on the bean dip mortar (3 olives were too much), add pickled red onion and fire-roasted peppers, then top with crumbled feta. Amazing bite. I had a taste of the Minestrone, and it was excellent. Flavors were all there without being overdone. The pasta was nice and cooked just right. The mac and cheese was perfect. I couldn't put my finger on the cheeses used, but it all came together nicely. You didn't just get a mouthful of one cheese flavor. It was creamy, balanced, and the crispy onions on top made it really nice. and the stunner. I am a big fan of pork belly, and this really piqued my interest. Served with lemongrass grits and pickled veg with a soy miso glaze. The pickled veg was tossed in a bed of leafy greens, and I saw some seaweed salad in there as well. A little bite of the grits topped with the salad was amazing. I've never had that combo before. A little tart, a little salty, nice umami, I could have eaten a bowl of just that. However, when the pork belly came into play, everything changed. The crisped, lightly charred crust on the fatty slices of nirvana by themselves were perfect. Cut a piece of it and lay it on the grits-salad bite, and you can feel your eyes roll backwards. I wanted to, and almost ate it all, but I left a slice for my girlfriend and topped off her little bit of mac and cheese that she wanted to take home. Half an hour in, and the place pretty much packed out for a bit while they were doing a healthy amount of takeout/pickup orders. The place is pretty simple: interesting Black Sheep art, with mostly little tables, plasticware, and a drinks cooler. The food can certainly be right at home in a fancier and upscale setting, but doesn't need it. They had one server, and she was delightful and attentive to everyone. Given that the sandwich was the only thing I had eaten that day and I don't have any known food allergies, I felt my concerns were not fully addressed. It's disappointing because I expected the same quality I remembered, but this experience was the complete opposite. It will be a while before I feel comfortable returning.

My friends and I have eaten at this restaurant for several summers . Service and food has always been well . I am confused about this woman Jodi O review and the person she's attacking . As stated her last review was taken down and now she has a full story ? I think the story is she and friends came into the establishment with liquor. ! Now she says she was willing to surrender it ! Which is it ? There's always a reason to be asked an establishment and I feel Jodi knows she was wrong !! I recommend dining at this establishment don't let an angry white privileged woman make you feel otherwise ! And Jodi this isn't a fake profile I'm a person who rents in the grove for the summer ! Friends and I had dinner this past Saturday night and, oh my goodness....the best grilled pork chop in the world!! Juicy, perfectly cooked to the right temperature and the quality was beyond Manhattan-restaurant worthy. The chef used a delicious raspberry sauce that had even the non-pork lovers smacking their lips. Everyone else's dinner was absolutely delicious. This is the best restaurant in the Grove. The open deck makes you feel like your dining out on a dock and the wait staff were fantastic. I would take the ferry just to eat here again. read more

Food was actually good but don't expect to get food the way you want it. The chef will not put sauce on side or make any changes to the meals the way they come. Chef says will serve u the way he wants only. Other area restaurants are much more accommodating. This will be my last resort due to the chef's attitude towards customer service. read more

Our server, whose name was Regis, was friendly and prompt. 5 stars for food, ambiance, and service. 3 stars are for the awkward experience of being rushed at the end of our meal. 3 weeks in advance, we asked for a 7 PM reservation, and were given 7:15 PM, which was fine with us. On the day of our meal, the hostess, named Alfie, calls us at 6:50 PM asking us to come earlier, at 7 PM. We found this change at such short notice strange, but we obliged and did our best to get there earlier, arriving at 7:05 PM. One hour into our meal, at 8:05 PM we were ready to order dessert. We were surprised when our server Regis told us that they'll be needing our table in 15 minutes (at 8:20 PM?), and so we may have to finish our dessert at another table. We got our dessert and finished in time. When we asked Regis what the time limit was per reservation, he just said Alfie told him to relay that information to us, and Regis apologized to us for the rush. On our way out, when we asked Alfie why we were told that they "needed our table in 15 minutes" at 8:05 PM, she just gave us a scripted answer that all reservations have a 1 hr 30 minute limit. When I tried to explain that at 8:05 PM when we wanted to order dessert, we were nowhere near that time limit, whether we were going by our original 7:15 PM reservation time or at 7:05 PM when we arrived, Alfie just closed up and asked us if we wanted to talk to her manager, which we declined. She even made a rude comment asking us if this was our first time at the restaurant, and when we said we've been coming for years, she retorted "then you should know this is how it works here". She also tried to throw our server, Regis, under the bus by saying that the miscommunication was his fault. We found Alfie's behavior quite off-putting, and her lack of ability to realize her mistake, let alone hold herself accountable for it, disappointing. As was her impulse to just blame her fellow team members. All we wanted from her was an apology, which we at least got from Regis. We've never had a problem with the previous staff-member who handled reservations and seating. We understand Alfie is new and might not have been trained properly. But with this establishment charging $25 for salads, $40-60 for entrées, and $20 desserts, we expect more competent staff and to be treated with dignity. That said, we love the food here, the bay views are gorgeous, and with the limited options on the island, we'll just hope for better experiences at Top of The Bay in the future.

Our waitress was phenomenal -- sweet, accommodating and attentive despite how busy it was. Other staff members were wonderful too. Unfortunately, our interaction with the manager put a serious damper on an otherwise great evening. We made our OpenTable reservation a week in advance and noted that we'd have our 5-lb Yorkie, requesting outside seating if possible because we weren't sure where dogs were permitted. We weren't being picky and understood it was Labor Day weekend. When we arrived, the hostess explained that our reserved table was inside, so we'd need to wait for a dog-friendly table. She said we'd have priority because we had a reservation. No problem! We got drinks at the outdoor bar and didn't wait long. When another woman eventually seated us, I smiled, said hello and thanked her. She gave me what I can only describe as a dirty look. I shrugged it off, assuming she was stressed because they were busy. Our waitress was fantastic. A busser even kindly offered our dog a water bowl. We ordered drinks and an appetizer and were enjoying ourselves when the woman who seated us suddenly came over, threw water down at the foot of my fiancé's chair and said, "You know your dog is marking up our chairs!" To be completely clear: our tiny Yorkie had urinated on the leg/base of an OUTDOOR chair. He did NOT defecate anywhere. We were eating and hadn't noticed him briefly lift his leg underneath the table. We weren't upset that she told us -- we were stunned by HOW she handled it. Had she simply said, "Excuse me, your dog urinated on the chair," we would have apologized and immediately addressed it. Instead, she threw water beside my fiancé's chair while he was eating and spoke to us in an unnecessarily hostile manner. This is an outdoor dining area at a restaurant that allows dogs, and your own staff had just offered our dog water. If dogs are welcome, situations involving them should be handled professionally. If you don't want dogs there, don't allow them. Our dog is five pounds, quiet and friendly. Other guests and children were stopping by our table to pet him. Had we not already ordered dinner, we would have paid for our drinks and appetizer and left after this interaction. Unfortunately, it didn't end there. My fiancé ordered a filet with a $9 upcharge for hollandaise sauce. The sauce didn't arrive with his steak, so he began eating before it got cold. When the same woman walked by, he mentioned the missing sauce. Instead of apologizing, she said, "Yeah, that can come out later." A $9 sauce ordered for a steak should arrive WITH the steak. He told her he no longer wanted it. She said okay but apparently never communicated that, due to being too busy chatting standing around with others. A busser later brought it and we had to reject it. Our evening cost approximately $200. Expecting our complete meal to arrive together and expecting to be treated respectfully are not unreasonable expectations. I told our waitress about the interactions while making it VERY clear none of this reflected on her. That's when we learned this woman was actually the MANAGER. Our waitress was extremely apologetic, although she had nothing to apologize for. She did her job beautifully, and we made sure to tip her well in cash. That's what makes this so disappointing. This restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, decent food and phenomenal staff. The person who negatively affected our experience was the person who should have been setting the standard. Yes, customers should be responsible for their pets, and we would have immediately addressed the situation had we noticed. But these are outdoor tables and chairs exposed to birds, squirrels and other animals. The hostile reaction to a five-pound dog briefly lifting his leg was unnecessary. There is a right and wrong way to address an issue. Speak to your customers like human beings. Throwing water beside someone's chair while they're eating and speaking to them disrespectfully is unacceptable. To our waitress and the other hardworking staff: THANK YOU. You were wonderful. To the manager: your staff is phenomenal. You should consider taking some customer-service training from them.
