Island Brew Coffeehouse in Hawaii Kai is one of my favorite places to slow down and relax. The space is beautiful, with plenty of outdoor seating and a peaceful atmosphere that's a nice escape from the busier parts of town. One of the best parts is being able to sit by the water and watch the boats come and go while enjoying your coffee. It feels calm and unhurried, making it a great spot to catch up with friends, get some work done, or simply enjoy a quiet morning. They also have an impressive pastry selection and a wide variety of drink options, so there's something for everyone. The service is consistently friendly and efficient as well. The staff are welcoming, and even when the café is busy, orders come out surprisingly quickly. Between the waterfront views, relaxing ambiance, great menu selection, and excellent service, Island Brew is definitely a place I'd recommend to both locals and visitors looking for a laid-back coffee shop experience. The views are relaxing and over looks the bay. Most tables have a great view. They have couches and lounge chairs available to relax in. This is a semi self serve location. You order then find a place to sit. They will call your name out for the drinks and if you order food, they will bring that to your table. The food was delicious. I had a hard time decided because everything looked so food. We will be back to try more drinks and food. The only complaint I had was the people vaping right next to use and they didn't seem to care or see it as problem. read more

This is my favorite island brew location but I guess I went on a bad day, (Monday, May 11) they have construction workers drilling next to the water, so it's a beautiful location but you have to listen to the (quite loud) drilling. I had planned to hang out here and get some work done for like an hour but decided there is probably somewhere quieter to hang out. I ordered the breakfast skillet which I saw on the written menu outside, I think it's a new or temporary dish and I really really enjoyed it, I just wish the girl that delivered it to my table warned me the skillet was literally burning hot, since I actually burned my hand on it... When I was heading out I made the mistake of asking the girl with the short blonde hair where the bathroom was and she's like oh to the left of the blue umbrellas... and I'm like ok... I go outside and don't see blue umbrellas, and then I finally find the bathroom which is literally right across from island brew, (that's all she had to say) and there are 2 people outside, so I ask them if they are waiting and one is... an island brew worker passes me and she has a key in her hand, so I'm like oh is that a key for the bathroom? And she's like, it's a ? key as she walks away from me, but I couldn't really hear whatever she said so I follow her down the hall to ask her what she said and she just goes in the bathroom and slams the door, which is when I realize it was probably an employee bathroom and there is a code for the other "public" door and the first girl didn't even tell it to me, the other worker didn't either... oh yeah and it's a one person bathroom FYI -- I've been here before and love love love this totally unassuming spot, there is a Safeway and longs drugs, just a big open lot then this Island Brew which is like an oasis, but never used the bathroom before... I guess now I know. I don't think I'll be back any time soon though... read more

This makes a great weekend brunch spot by the water. Lowkey, full service, peaceful ambiance. Nothing special to note on the service, but they are polite and accommodating. They also leave notes on their signs with positive messages (see photo). On one occasion the outdoor speaker was on blast - not only was it unusual and the volume unsuitable for the ambiance, but the music wasn't good. That was definitely a one-off experience as they usually play good music at a volume that allows for good conversation. The line moves quickly and there are plenty of seats to sit while you wait for them to deliver the food to your table. The coffee, smoothies, and food are all very good. Love the generous lox bagels. Lots of local art on the walls. This place is on regular rotation for us so easy 5 stars. read more

I wanted so bad to like this place because it's super cute and the reviews says so! But unfortunately it did not live up to what others were saying. The wait was a bit long for my açaí bowl and it was pretty pricey for what I got! I was hoping to devour it with my son but that wasn't the case. My son loves his açaí bowl And he only took one spoon! That's very unlikely so I had to taste it to see why. I was already sad on how small it was for almost $20! And when I tasted it, it wasn't even sweet! I tried to force it on him and I eventually threw away the entire thing! Sigh.... But the place is super cute. Lots of choices. The staff is a bit slow.... This place is too cute. After our hike we decided to check out this coffee shop. Fell in love with this place. Drinks are reasonably priced and they have unique names. They serve food and pastries. The drinks we had were kukui nut latte, honey girl matcha, and mango sticky rice matcha. All tasted great. Service was pleasant and fast. There are seats inside and outside. Amazing views all around. Such a beautiful ambiance if you are on the east side of the island. We were lucky enough to get a beautiful day when we visited. I noticed the long line and decided to order ahead while we found our seats. Turns out they place your food outside near the front instead of calling your name when it's done so make sure to check the table outside. I got the eggs caprese, açaí bowl, and spinach salad. The view was beautiful and thankfully we got seats up near the shade which have a really nice view of the water. Opening seating and some areas better for groups than other. Lots of dogs were with their owners eating and my kids trying to pet them all. Such a unique pretty spot. We pretty much served ourselves and cleaned up afterwards. I'm always suspicious of a coffee house that also has an expansive food menu and a good view. After my family of five crushed koko head, my three kids were starved of food and I was starved of caffeine. All were satisfied and we enjoyed lounging by the lagoon as we prepared to face the real challenge of the day (Costco on a Saturday). Ordering is a bit strange as they bring food to your table but leave drinks for pick up at their counter. The outdoor space is pretty expansive so good luck if you have kids by yourself. Also, post hike with no water, I was a bit surprised to have to ask for ice for the water. read more

My husband and I found this Island Brew location on our way to go hiking. The line was out the door, so we knew it was going to be good. I had the Ehu Kai cold brew, and it was fantastic. I wish I could've drank several of them!! My husband also enjoyed his peppermint mocha. For food, I ordered the veggie pesto toast and added bacon. It was excellent - a simple combination, but I loved every bite. My husband had a breakfast sandwich and enjoyed it as well. I came here to get a BBL. (Banana bread latte) this place is soooo cute. I love the vibes here. The area to relax is super calm and relaxing because they have couches to sit on inside AND outside. I tried Island Brew Coffeehouse's matcha beverages on my last two visits. Both drinks were excellent. The Blue Hibiscus and Strawberry Dream Match drinks were a nice balance of creaminess, sweetness and quality matcha flavor. These matcha beverages are comparable to several of the fine establishments in urban Honolulu - of which IBC is one in Ala Moana Center...one of three locations. Dining area indoors and outdoors is a mix-n-match of your Grannie meets my Grandma at the nexus point of dementia and 60's/70's Hippie decor. Not bad but overwhelming...to me. F45 ( for the single guys ) is next door ...so lots of attractive female customers. Also, CJJF Hawaii Kai is right across from Island Brew...so some of the female customers are liable to lock and throw you into the marina, if you get out of line. Owner of CJJF is super nice and well spoken. A fair amount of tourists make up the patronage as water activity rental businesses reside in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. Parking...it's in a shopping center...lots of good sized stalls. read more

Not only is this place one of the cutest coffee house but the outdoor seating area is such a great place to enjoy your food, speciality drink and company. I love all the unique seating areas! They will bring your food to you but you do need to pick up your drink at the coffee bar! My matcha was smooth and well balanced, I like the rose cold foam!! The cold brew is always a fav! I have been here a few times and it is always busy. Since it is usually crowded and I am often stopping in on my way to a hike, I tend to keep my orders simple. On my last visit, I ordered a London Fog with Earl Grey tea, frothed whole milk, and vanilla syrup, along with a Coconut Custard Bar. The London Fog was straightforward and not overly sweet, which I appreciated, but it was not as hot as I would have liked. The Coconut Custard Bar was tasty, though since it is kept in a chilled display, it would have been much better if it were warmed up. Both items were good but could have been better. Based on my experiences, the pastries are average and land around a 3/5. Not bad, since I do keep coming back, but if this cafe were anywhere else, it probably would not hold a four star rating. I will not sugarcoat it. The VIEW OVERLOOKING THE MARINA is what makes this place special! I sat for about forty minutes, enjoying the morning sun in a comfortable seat while taking in the water. That atmosphere alone is what elevates the experience closer to four and a half stars. Realistically, this review probably lands around a 3.7, but I am rounding up to 4. One downside that others have mentioned is the staff. Most appear to be very young, and while there is nothing wrong with that, the customer service could use some improvement. It seemed like only one or two employees were running food, and only one of them smiled. When I asked where to place my used dishes, I was directed to the area, but it felt like I was inconveniencing someone just by asking. I could have left my plate at the table, but I watched about ten birds feast on leftover food from nearby tables for nearly thirty minutes, and they were still there when I left. Should this review discourage you from going? No, definitely check it out. Just do not go in with extremely high expectations. If you are okay with a three star food experience paired with a great water view, you will understand where I am coming from. And if the weather is bad, you have been warned. Lastly, if you have food allergies, be aware that cross contamination is likely. They even have a sign posted about it. Honestly, I recommend bringing your own treats and simply enjoying the view. read more

Wonderful spot with great coffee and breakfast! Came here on a Friday morning and ordered a couple coffees, their eggs Benni, and acai bowl. Service was friendly and the ordering line moved quickly. We sat outside (such a cute area) and enjoyed the waterfront views!! The location is so peaceful and relaxing, we loved it! The Hawaiian honey lattes were delicious and would definitely get those again! The eggs Benni was our favorite - highly recommend for breakfast! The acai bowl was good, but nothing special. I came here for the views, and it delivered! Tons of outdoor patio seating with plenty of umbrellas to hide from the beaming sun. The menu was actually pretty lengthy too, and a board of seasonal specials will greet you right at the walkway before you even get inside. I went for a plantation iced tea, completely ordering the wrong thing since I had intended to get the sunrise tea, but this one was still very refreshing in the heat. If you like pineapple, definitely recommend! My husband's banana bread latte had a nicely made cold foam, thick and creamy and fragrant! They do put a lot though, it's nearly half the cup. We are four people go there for lunch, it by the seaside area and it is a so beautiful coffeehouse i haven't seen in Honolulu. There are lot of tables and chairs under the patio umbrellas , also some egg chairs and sofas over there too. Some flowers and plants all around the coffeehouse, and make it so vibrant . People can choose anywhere they want. They don't provide the server like the regular restaurant, and people need to order food and drink at the counter, and people need to grab their drinks, then the employees will bring the food to them. They don't have many choices of food, and the food just okay, not too good and not too bad either, but that's fine to me, because I like this environment. When I enjoy my food and drink and also watch the beautiful ocean view there that makes me feel so relaxing and comfortable. I will be there again when I have a free time . read more

Real review (not some overpaid influencer here): Food is delicious. Always quality whether it's their hearty banan-o-rama toast or basilito wrap. Coffee is superb too. You can't go wrong with trusting these baristas. This spot is beautiful. I always love sitting by the water and enjoying a coffee here. But be warned: lack of quality management and training leads to incredible long wait times just to order. They rarely are expedient and it shows as you wait for a cashier to lackadaisically take an order then prepare half your food purchases while the folks behind you stand anxiously. It's incredibly frustrating. If you see a line of more than 10 people, expect to wait 20 minutes just to order. And it's just this location. Ala Moana and Manoa rarely take this long. Bottom line: if you have the time to wait, it might be worth it. read more

This shop has so many drinks that the menus are located everywhere. It's like a very easy scavenger hunt for the menus. They also have a large offering of pastries and breakfast/brunch. We ordered a standard latte and a Mauna Kea cold brew. Both were very good. The espresso is a light roast. While we were in line, a local recommended the spicy avocado toast. At $13, it was kind of a sad looking avocado toast. I think we would skip and try something else next time. I loved this place! Such a relaxing oasis in an otherwise unassuming shopping center. I don't usually expect much from these types of places as they're mostly for the vibes, but the food was surprisingly good. I loved my eggs benedict and haupia latte, and the view just made the food taste so much better! They are open pretty early which makes it a perfect place to stop on an early morning drive. firstly, the atmosphere of the cafe was exceptional. great views, with indoor and outdoor seating, and the decor really channeled the hawaii/beach vibes. service was super friendly and just a welcoming experience! the drinks were great. we ordered a mango matcha latte, which was a basic matcha latte with mango syrup in it. this was a custom request and it turned out to be super yummy! matcha wasn't too strong and was a subtle aroma compared to the mango, but personally that made it a bit more refreshing and light which was nice in the moment (before a hike to kokohead). we also ordered a doppio macchiato marked with 2 splashes of steamed whole milk. the drink was enjoyable and wasn't too florally/acidic (personal preference). had a nice, strong medium to dark roast aroma. overall, we had such a pleasant experience with solid drinks and views and will definitely be back! read more
