I stopped in here after looking for a new soul food spot not too far from home. I checked YELP and saw the mixed reviews for this cafe and went to test the waters. I didn't have high expectations since the reviews were in the middle about the food. There was a young man behind the counter taking the orders and he was very pleasant, patient and professional. I arrived around 2:30PM and there were a few people waiting for their order. It's a small restaurant and not a huge selection of food items. I mostly saw different flavored wings as the main meat available. I settled on the jerk chicken wings, mac and cheese and yams which was $9 and averagely priced. I had a nice size serving that was enough to eat for two days which I love. I saw a few slices of cake on top of the counter but none of them caught my eye so I didn't order desert. While I waited I perused the pictures on the wall of the different celebrities who visited or just knew the owner/manager of the restaurant. There were some impressive photos on that well too. The jerk wings were okay and I knew they wouldn't be great since I didn't see a BBQ grill for that smoky grilled taste that I love. The mac and cheese and yams were good. However, they seemed to be missing that "wow" factor to make it taste better than most places "sides." Placed an order to cater. $150 for a full tray of beef ribs. $40 for a half tray of mac n cheese $40 for a half tray of potato salad I believe the corn breads were free This happily fed about 25-30 people. The rep said that it would feed about 15-20 and for that full tray price of beef ribs we couldn't believe it, but we ordered it anyway. This is the first time I have had this place because the first time I was a vegetarian and carb loaded. To put it simply - I am glad I am a carnivore again! These ribs were saturated in their crack bbq sauce and the beef was so tender that it slipped off the bone. The Mac n cheese was more of a macaroni pie that was dry , but the crack bbq sauce compensated for the dryness. The potato salad was the best I have ever had - it was not watery and was just loaded with flavor. The corn bread was moist and just wonderful. It's one thing to wait an hour + for food , but to have the order be wrong , or all smashed up when it arrives is a whole other situation ! This time around I have to say is the worst . I ordered through Uber Eats let's just say this is by far the best take out I've had in a WHILLLLEEEEEEEE. I ordered jerk chicken wings , fried whitening , Mac and cheese , collard greens , and yams. Food came right on time . Still hot too . Let's talk about the chicken .... fall off the bone . The jerk is pretty spicy but it's good lol . The whitening was delicious came with some sliced bread and they provided the packet kind of tarter sauce .. I didn't mind though . The mac and cheese was just how I liked it with chunks of cheese baked inside of it and not that gooey velveta type either . I was on my way home from Flushing and wanted some Soul Food. I pulled over to pull out the Yelp app and Burgundy's Cafe was the second option so I went for it. Parking sucks on this Hillside strip so if you're driving, be prepared to have someone with you to run in for the food or you will be sorry. If you do find a spot, it's metered parking. The staff member who took our orders was very polite and personable. I ordered the 3pc Whiting Dinner with Mac n chz and sweet potato fries ($11). The place is not big but they have two tables and a high table with stools for dining or waiting on your take-out. They also have a wall full of pics of staff members and celebrities to waste some time. The game is basically "Name that Celebrity." lol The food took about 20 minutes then we were on our way. Got home about 20 min after that and didn't have to reheat the food. It was still hot and fresh. The fish and the sweet fries were excellent! The Mac n chz was good and cheesy. Hooray I found a replacement for Foster's which sadly shut down. For what reason, I'm not sure but after trying several other soul food restaurants, Burgandy's will make a great replacement. The store awning from outside looks like it's been up since the 70's and from the looks of everything, they have been here since the 70's. This is truly a mom and pop shop with what appears to be the whole family who runs this business. It's like having your grandma cook for you, that is if my grandma actually knew how to make delicious fried chicken vs fried rice. Anyways, the prices are very reasonable here, definitely food for the masses where you don't have to lose an arm and a leg just to pay for lunch. I ordered the fried chicken dinner which came with two sides and bread. The fried chicken was awesome, super juicy, the breading stayed on, and salted just right (not overly salted like some places). Although I wish it had a little kick like Popeye's spicy wings, I'll take good ole fashioned original wings too. The candied yams were outrageously good and I highly recommend ordering them. The mac n cheese was pretty standard and literally like your mom would make them, not a creamy cheese but chunky cheese with non al dente noodles. There's a wall of pictures of the owner with celebrities which is cool, I guess considering I came in to order food and not gaze at pictures as if I were in a art gallery. I purchased food for my friend, she ordered southern wings with macaroni and cheese and candied yams. She originally wanted collard greens but the server/cashier said there was no more. Collard greens to me in a soul food is something that you just don't run out of. My friend was pleasantly pleased with her food, she said that it was really good. My friend called me to tell that the restaurant forgot to put her banana pudding inside with her order so I called the business and explained what happened, my friend was able to swing by and pick it up. This restaurant isn't too far from our house so its our go to spot when we crave soul food. Everything we have had was delicious except their apple crumb pie. It was dry and had way too much cinnamon but that is minor. The fried catfish was fried to perfection and not too breaded. Grilled shrimp were a nice size and flavored deliciously. The ribs were so good!! Seasoned great, enough sauce and the meat was falling off the bones! Hmmm hmmm My Family and I Absolutely LOVE the potato salad! Candied yams are also good. The mac and cheese is also delicious. One time the top was a little overdone but once I got past that the inside was still nice and cheesy. I decided to give this restaurant a try. I tried the fried chicken with mac & cheese, collard greens and potato salad. The chicken was well seasoned and very good. Unfortunately the collard greens were bland and required salt and hot sauce. The potato salad was sweet - that's not something that I'm used to but it was not unpleasant. The mac & cheese was very cheesy but also required some salt. The portions were good and the price was reasonable. The lady who took my order was very nice. I came here one day when I went to a training for work at Hillcrest High School. It looked like the cleanest place within walking distance to be quite honest. I ordered a grilled chicken salad and it was the bomb! It was so filling that I ate half at lunch and the other half for dinner. I didn't get any of the delicious soul food but it looked and smelled fantastic. A co-worker who had walked with me to Burgandy's got some fried fish and I wanted to snatch it out of her hand, it looked that good. This place is super tiny. There's only 2 tables and some counter seats. The food is great though. We love getting their wings. They have different flavors and they make it fresh to order so they come out crisp. We ate there once with our 2 sons and when the guy behind the counter found out my older one liked grape soda, he gave it for free. We've never had a problem with service there. I went in with a friend of mine on a hot sunny day. Their menu is rather extensive so it took me a while to figure out what I wanted. Thankfully, the guy working there was very patient with me. I ordered the smothered wings with two sides of mac and cheese. Nothing was bad but noting was great. The potato salad, actually, was pretty good but the smothered chicken wings were kind off and the mac and cheese needed more flavor. My friend enjoyed her jerk wings, though. I try to support black owned businesses. I've ordered from this place a handful of times, hoping each time will be better than the last. As other reviews state, the food is mediocre and they do have long wait times. That being said, today my boyfriend and I placed an order for 2 dinner meals to be delivered. We both had to adjust our orders as what we wanted wasn't available (they were out of tilapia and out of sweet & sour sauce for wings). The guy who took our order said 25 minutes. Or food never arrived. I was too annoyed to even call back to see what the hold up was 40 minutes. Nothing. I live on the same street on Burgandy's Cafe, a little more than a mile away. (Let me schedule an appointment with my cardiologist after writing this review) The positives are the fresh food and the fresh take on soul-food. As a South Carolina native, I KNOW COUNTRY cooking. This is close to it. The food is delicious, I was so impressed with finding a place where they make your grilled salmon (grilled teriyaki salmon is the best) to-order. You literally watch them grill your salmon in front of you if you do not run out of the store once they take your order and tell you it's going to be a 30 minute wait. My first time, I stayed and waited. My last two visits, I ordered ahead. My sister got fried chicken. She's a small eater, but her plate was cleaned in 10 minutes. My husband got the smothered chicken. This is not whole chicken pieces, it is the thinly sliced chicken breast pieces which make the meal lighter, but you still get all of the flavors. I got the jerk chicken last time which is the dry-rub jerk, not the usual wet jerk chicken with sauce just spread over it. The negatives to this place is you have to 'come early' as I was told by the young guy taking my order. They always run out of beef ribs and mango chicken wings by about 4-5pm. To me, the yams were thin (almost watery) and too much cinnamon! My relatives liked them, but not me (RCL, that's your only one-up on Burgandy's is the yams). Everything is home-made tasting and fresh. Their veggies were all good. Any place my entire family cannot wait to return to and has been consistently fresh is definitely worth 5 stars. read more

Arrived at 9pm and was told there was several things they didnt have due cleaning service that was scheduled tonight and i was told they were about to close... PSA if you clise at 10pm and its 9pm you are not about to close...the gentlemen that was going to take my order advised they were closing early. When i mentioned their hours stated 10pm he said dont believe everything you see...totally confused..he had a bit of an attitude that i asked why they were closing early and because the only sides available were fries and collards i decided to leave. i think that everyone needs to have this type of experience. The one where you see the great reviews and scores before going just to find out that you must be in the twilight zone. Because most of the good ratings must have been on a great night or from friends of the establishment. All the complaints were true. The wait was over an hour when i only had two people ahead of me. I should have known that something was wrong when the cashier/food preparer screamed an order and the lady who ordered forgot that she had ordered it. because of how long she must have been waiting. The worst was getting my food just to find out that it sucked and was better off in the trash. Question...who pays 10 bucks for "A" turkey wing and tip. The yams were mushy and over seasoned with cinnamon. Potato salad..BLah..Mac had just came out so it was cheesy but tasted like noodles and garlic. The smothered chicken was Salty as a salt lick. Conveniently located in the busy part of Jamaica Queens. Burgandys Cafe is an affordable restaurant run by a Wholesome family. I love being able to come home from work and have a great home cooked meal without slaving over the stove myself. It is very clean and I eat there often. My favorite is the salmon salad, any shrimp dish and the wings. Oh yeah and spinach rice. Have you ever had spinach rice? Love it. There open from 11:30am until 10pm.
