What a gem! I've had the pleasure of being a guest on two occasions thusfar. I just happened to be staying in St. Augustine Beach for a business trip and decided it would be nice to bring donuts to my client. Well, Island Donuts popped up no more than a mile away, and I was astounded at what a unique, dynamic establishment awaited me. First, the shop floor plan is fantastic. You walk in and literally the donuts are right in your face along a big tall wall behind a vast counter. The aroma is breathtaking and you can simply tell quality and freshness is awaiting. The staff is very friendly and seems to enjoy what they do! Some of the donuts you don't even want to eat in fear you may destroy brilliant art. The word "profound" seldom gets used to describe donuts, but this establishment allows for it. Also, their coffee is great too. On both occasions I walked out with 3 dozen donuts! I trust the ladies running the show to simply make the selection for me! If you are in the St. Augustine area and have yet to try this establishment, you are doing yourself a disservice. My, oh my!! These are easily the best donuts I've eaten while staying in the St. Augustine area. We are donut lovers and have tried several different spots for donuts during our stays over the years. This one definitely takes the Number One slot, and hits the spot!! The cake donuts were just as good as the yeast ones! The icings and toppings are delicious and complement the donuts perfectly. I tried an everything bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese...it was flavorful and a great breakfast! There were so many donut and breakfast sandwich choices. The Boston Cream is probably the best Boston Cream donut I've had the honor to eat. It may sound silly, but these donuts made me so happy! I love these doughnuts. They are not your ordinary doughnuts, they're your superior doughnuts. My favorite is the French Toast doughnut. But there are a lot of truly rich and interesting doughnuts. Local donut business, very delicious. I was impressed by the long line outside so decided to try the food. I waited in line for about 10 minutes before going into the shop itself. They had an amazing donut collection, anything from chocolate to pumpkin and maple bacon. In early September I was happy to see they are already selling fall donuts! I ordered 1/2 dozen donuts, two iced coffees, one lemonade, and three breakfast sandwiches for $40. The kitchen was backed up so it was a 25 minute wait for the breakfast sandwiches. My friends ordered breakfast sandwiches with sausage instead of bacon, I understand they are backed up but for a 25 minute wait they didn't get the order correct and still gave us bacon. Not a big deal because the breakfast sandwiches still tasted good but come on! I'd come back, the donuts were very tasty and definitely tasted homemade.
