Nice open restaurant makes for wonderful breeze and not miserably hot like other outdoor restaurants. We were here early on a Friday (noon) and it wasn't too busy yet. The staff from the host to the waitress to the food runner were very friendly!! They were also very accommodating for our dog- dog friendly to friendly dogs :) You can dock your boat here to grab food also- several locals were coming and going on their boats. Great place for Taco Tuesday and half off tequila drinks and shots! If you know to ask, they have tacos for $10 but only if you ask for it. Luckily we did and they were good! Food was meh. Waiter was nice, but we had to ask for water and place settings. The bathrooms were not clean.

The issue I had was with the way our group was handled. To start with, the server was not experienced and ended up dumping a glass of water and soaking half of the people at our table. We got dried off and tried to laugh a bit to make it so they were not nervous and end up dumping anything else on us. I did not expect any big restitution for the issue, but comping the drinks or appetizers or at least the meal of the person who got the brunt of soaking would have been a nice gesture. Instead, we got a smart comment from the manager as we were leaving - "How'd you like our waterfall?" Mind you, he did not come over at any other time during our meal or when the incident occurred. One of our favorite spots to stop and take a break mid day after morning fishing. Easy access to get to. The view is great and I love the open air building, being right on the water. Service is good, fast and friendly. Seated right away always. Always checking in to see if we need refills, etc. Food: We come here for the Tuna nachos. They are Soo good! Island Grill has a tucked-away location on the water, which lends itself to limited canal views for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We actually went for a full moon party which was just fine...I think we all had huge expectations of some wild party in the Florida Keys and it was instead rather chill. The party was held mostly on the "beach" which is a narrow triangle of land off behind the actual restaurant building. It's a terrible space for the kind of party they want to throw and doesn't allow for much circulation, socializing or dancing. The first band was a reggae band who basically put us all to sleep. So we went inside to the DJ who was set up in the main restaurant which was basically empty...no one was high energy and no one but our group was dancing. Around 10pm the Junkaroo band showed up and they were awesome...but only played two drum songs before a second band came out and took over. The second band played cover songs and really tried to bring a party vibe, but they just didn't succeed...and honestly, half the people left after the Junkaroo band finished anyway. I might try Island Grill for some food next time I'm in town, but honestly I wasn't overally impressed by their set-up. read more

My experience eating at Island Grill: Driving down to Key West and navigating an arduous amount of traffic to make it to our halfway point we were starving. We saw the signs for this place after seeing the beautiful views of Islamorada. Service was great. Our hostess offered us seating outside inside or down by the water where there was live music. We checked out all three but ended up sitting inside. Ordered their famous tuna nachos some oysters to get started. Then a tuna poke bowl and the truffle lobster mac & cheese. There seemed to be lots of mixed reviews for this restaurant, but we had a very positive visit last Friday night for dinner. I have several food allergies, but was still able to find something to eat. The skirt steak was AMAZING. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the steak sandwich and he loved it. The cocktails were super good, I recommend the passion fruit mojito. It was fun to come at night and see what we could see in the water. Everything was good. The manager sent over a couple of desserts and the fried cheesecake was awesome! The key lime pie was good but oh my that cheesecake! In my honest opinion, this restaurant is not worth the hype. It is a very nice little place with a great view and ambiance, but the food was not worth the high prices. I visited Island grill on my way back because I was in the mood for some fried fish, which is what my wife and I ordered. We got the fried yellow snapper and while it was a nice big fish, it lacked flavor. I had to add lots of salt and pepper so it could taste better. The sides were not all that either. The jasmine rice and Mac n cheese were ok, while the Caesar salad was soggy. My daughter had the Mac n cheese, which was regular, nothing out of this world. The service was a 4. Our waiter was ok while the front desk gentleman that sat us down was super nice and friendly. As I mentioned earlier, the restaurant is very nice with a great vibe and to that I give it a 5, but overall, the food was very pricey and not tasty thus the 3 star review. read more

The bartender was friendly and helpful, we ordered stone crab claws, oysters and fritters. The fritters were very good and the oysters were excellent. The stone crab was good, but there is where the service fell through the cracks. We had to asked for plates and a cracker for the crab. We finished and we were asked if we wanted to order more, I asked for a minute. We died on the vine. Finally I just asked for the bill. Service is what sell a place in the islands.
