I believe there is only one islander bar and grill - I'm reviewing in the upper 50s in D terminal. Chaotic welcome, sat down (family of 4), asked for milk on menu - said no milk. Asked for hot chocolate on menu, same thing. 3 desserts listed - 2 flans and a key lime pie - asked for flan - nope, got key lime pie. Basically the waitress would say she didn't think they had it and what was our second choice. To top it off, they include an 18 percent tip and you can add or subtract from that amount. I imagine most people don't notice and just sign. This was definitely not 18 percent tip territory for the 8 minutes we were there. Horrible customer service. starting with the hostess and especially the bully manager. Apparently they didn't want to clean an extra table so they woulnt allow me to dine in. I don't have much faith in airport food, but this place proved me wrong. First of all the team of hostess, servers and bartenders are young and very energetic and engaging, creating a great atmosphere. The food server suggested the special of the day; a seared red snapper with rice and plantains; it was not on the menu, and I went for it. Simple, but very well executed! The red snapper melts in the mouth! I also ordered a key lime pie for desert, kind of standard quality, but not too bad. Islander Bar and Grill is an oasis in the food desert of MIA airport. I had a short layover in Miami, and I was hungry. I scanned the menu and found a shrimp Creole & rice meal. The host told me it would be ready before my departure. My waiter, Vladimir spoke to me kindly took my order and asked if I wanted a Mojito. I refused saying that I had never had had one. He convinced me to try it because it was one of the local favorites. He asked if I like sweet wines I said yes. It was a perfect drink. It complimented my delicious Shrimp Creole and plantains. The meal would have been perfect if the rice was as good as the creole and plaintains. Overall, I was delighted with my meal at Islander Bar & Grill. Nice one! Keep Going! read more

Stopped in for dinner between flights. Expected typical airport fare but we were pleasantly surprised. Service was spot on throughout. Ambience was... well, it's in an airport. Amazing fish tacos!! Grilled catch of the day red snapper and they were ridiculously Delicious!! Rosa was an amazing server, giving perfect advice. I'm gluten free and apparently these tacos are the go to at the airport for gf folks but I never expected them to be one of the best meals I've had in awhile. read more

It's a restaurant inside the airport so I wasn't expecting much from the start. The place was busting with travelers in a hurry and the staff were all doing the best that they could. The food is good and served relatively quickly, and the cocktails were ok. The prices are a bit on the expensive side for the food, and even more expensive for cocktails and well drinks. Whatever cocktail you order, they quickly ask if you'd like a double shot so they can charge you more right from the start. If you decline the double, the drink will get less than an once of liquor; if you agree to the double shot at the higher price you get the equivalent of a normal single-shot drink. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer for $9 and got a basket with 3 small shrimp (see pic). We also had the Island burger which was tasty but also a bit pricey for what you get. The staff is friendly until you place your order and then will not come back until you ask for the check. This is an airport restaurant in Miami and you get what you pay for; I wish this could be fixed. read more

Across from D49, the food isn't bad but they take airport up charge to the next level. I asked for just a water and the bartender immediately said that they only had bottled water for $5 and even if I wanted regular water from the sink (yes, from the sink because apparently she doesn't know how to use the water function on the soda gun) it would be $4. Not a single thing is worth the price you'll pay. I ordered the shrimp Creole and even then I got 8 shrimp and a half cup of rice for $17. Had a brief layover and had an early dinner of grilled Mahi Tacos. Not only was the food excellent, the server, named Kevin Diaz was fantastic. Would absolutely give 0 stars if possible. The service and food were both horrible. To start - our waitress (Luz) didn't even look at us when taking our order and she didn't even write it down. We ordered our appetizer and she just said "yeah", we then ordered our entrée and she just walked away without saying anything. We never got our appetizer (Cuban egg rolls), we were never offered a refill on water even though everyone around us had received refills, and she never stopped by to see how the food was. Secondly, when looking at the menu the bottom states "add 3 coconut shrimp for an additional 6.50". When we got the check we were charged 12.50 for the three shrimp we got as it was charged as the coconut shrimp appetizer. When we asked, we were told that we couldn't "add the three" onto our order as it wasn't a salad so she charged us for the whole appetizer. I feel like if it is only applicable for the salad either the menu or the server needs to make that known as I would never have paid 12.50 for the three shrimp. Finally, the food was absolutely horrid. The shrimp had a strange taste and texture, the burger had a disgusting char flavor to it as if the grill had never been cleaned, and the fries were 75% overcooked. read more

Went to sit at this place. When we walked up the hosts ignored us so we thought the place was a seat yourself establishment. When we sat down the host came over and said; you don't have to be rude. I called management and nobody picks up the phone. According to other reviews this problem starts with management and trickles down. So the food is actually okay and he good flavor, but the service is significantly lacking. It took a while to receive a menu and even longer to get the check. My server forgot about me and I had to flag another person down for help. Fortunately I had extra time before my flight. In addition to the slow service, Covid protocols were not followed AT ALL. They let a guy walk all over the restaurant Unmasked for about 20 minutes while he made several phone calls. My servers mask was falling off his nose like he had used the same mask for the last 2 years. Most other servers weren't masked properly either.
