The blue cheese crumbles, and blue cheese dressing pair well with a freshly cooked medium rare patty. I visited for lunch, and the bar area was full while sports played on multiple TVs in a dim lit setting. These restaurants are neither overly noisy, nor overly quiet. It's a casual place to come and relax while enjoying a variety of entrees and appetizers. They have a pretty full bar, and a decent soft drink selection. My guest and I were seated right away during the lunch hour with plenty of open tables and no wait time. Our server was quick to refill our drinks and had our appetizers and entrees ready in a short amount of time. Islands was a good move for our group during a basketball tournament, and Chloe was the MVP. With a big team and families, things can get hectic, but Chloe took charge. She got the kids seated, helped keep the checks organized, and made sure things moved in a way that worked for both kids and adults. There were a couple of small missteps with food items, but overall they handled the group well. I ordered the Chinese chicken salad and really enjoyed it. Maybe I'm lucky, but I've been to this Islands at least 4 times and it's been a great experience every time. We just moved into the area and we were ecstatic that there's an Islands nearby. The one in our previous city closed down. They have a cheerful and helpful host, attentive servers, and always great food. Granted I order the same thing every time (I like what I like), a hula burger with fries. My wife gets a veggie burger with a salad and she loves it. I was ready to walk out, when he finally came to the table. We had to get a manager for another drink, and we didn't see him again till we called him over for the bill. The service is always so quick here. They are always on top of drink refills which I LOVE. Food is always spot on. We love their nachos, sliders, and of course their French fries! Their secret seasoning is my absolute favorite. I need it at home. We always sit outside and it's always clean and they also have tv's outside if you want to see the game. The patio is pet friendly so we love seeing that the employees give them a little bowl of water. Recently I got the Kalua pork tacos. Menus on the table so we opened them up and started perusing them. Our server came by and took drink orders while we decided what to eat. She returned with our drinks and took our meal orders. There aren't as many Islands left. We happen to be in Yorba Linda and my son received a certificate for a Free kids meal so why not use it on the way home? There were plenty of parking. The restaurant was half full. We were seated right away. Everyone works together to give great service. Chris was our waiter and he was excellent! My son's meal was free. I got the Kilauae burger but made it a lettuce bun with veggie burger. I also subbed fries for tortilla soup. My burger started out at 18.95 and ended up being 26 with all the subs! Yikes. Is it me or Islands getting better with age? The menu has evolved. The adult beverage selection has increased. And when there's a wait for a table, there's always room in the bar area. I know it's weird I didn't get a burger, the fried fish tacos and the chicken tortilla soup are actually my favs. And I was needing something hardy so I went for the tacos. With all the other options around, I can't say this is your best choice, but neither is it your worst. They do well at keeping the whole restaurant looking like a tiki bar (with the customary strong cocktails). The food isn't bad, either. The burgers (all cooked medium) come out more towards medium-well, and they put all the ingredients together well. Many places neglect the meat in favor of the other ingredients, but these patties would be good even on their own. The fries were nothing to write home about. The tacos are where things fell apart (or didn't, as it were). One of my party mentioned that the carnitas were a little crunchy instead of being tender. Island's was a staple of my youth so whenever I return, it brings back memories. My favorite burger, the Mavericks, is no longer on their menu, but we found a new favorite. We have been here twice in the last two weeks and don't regret a minute of it. Ordered the Kilauea burger with Impossible patty each time. I would not change a thing about this. AWESOME! The flavor of the pepper is amazing. I also didn't know they have stopped doing the unlimited French fries with burgers. Getting ranch and those free refills was why I would go there often. Bummed that they took that out. The spinach dip was a bit of a buzz kill though. I used love this but I felt like it was super watered down when we ordered it. The food is always good, the employees are always friendly but I never really feel like the service is ever great. It always seems to take a little longer than it should for a simple burger or sandwich. And my main gripe about this location is.. WHY can you never get your burger/sandwich at the same time as your french fries/onion rings??? It never fails, and it literally happens EVERY time. We go in, get seated, place our order, and just as you're about ready to think "wow this is taking a long time" they drop off a basket of fries for you to nibble on... and tell you that your burger is coming right up. I ordered a "burger AND fries" not french fries as an appetizer and then a burger 10 minutes later!?!?! It's funny because I remember several years ago they started bringing you a basket of french fries right after you sat down just as like a little appetizer.. which is great, it's kind of like tortilla chips at a Mexican restaurant But don't bring me french fries (that I didn't ask for) if you're going to take them off of the meal that I actually ordered. I'm so disappointed in us for taking this long! The prices are amazing! These are the prices I like to see for HH. The food was great, service was great, and the drinks were even better! I believe that the manager dropped off our food and noticed I was low on my mai tai! She asked if I needed another one and immediately had one dropped off right after!
