Ok. I Didnt expect it to be so good, but everything was cooked wonderfully. The Hawaiian burger was so delicious and the chicken equivalent Toucan as well. I was worried the teriyaki sauce would be too sweet with pineapple but everything balanced wonderfully. The soup tasted great with added lemon and absolutely loved the Cole Slaw. Had an almost Mexican lime flavor to it. Along with notes of jalapeno. Our server Zach had excellent service and the refills came quickly. Super sweet and awesome well around guy! Highly recommend. Well I honestly do not know where to start! Apparently , I unknowingly came on a night with specials. After a two hour commute, I stopped to grab a bite with my son. We were told it would be a 20-25 minute wait at 7:05 pm which was fine . We sat , talked with others and watched many people leave! We just knew our name would be called soon , but after 30 minutes not a peep from the host. I inquired at 7:40 pm , as to how much longer the wait wound be. I was told we would be seated next & he( front desk host) went to find a table for us. Well , guess what - he never returned !!!! At 7:50, I asked why the wait was taking so long because the restaurant had cleared quite a bit and there were only 3 other couples waiting. The young lady couldn't care a less and said someone will be with you in a minute. She was understandably busy so again I waited. At 7:52 she flew by and said they were swamped due to a special they were having and the kitchen asked them not to seat any more patrons!!! I knew and agreed with her they were very busy , but I asked how long the kitchen would be closed and she said she couldn't give me an answer. It is now 7:53 , almost an hour wait and I was being told the kitchen was on a break and could not be seated. I asked to speak to a manager. Well- the manager came ready in full defense mode. She again explained they were busy and had to stop seating. I shook my head in agreement because that was not the issue . I could see they were slammed , however, it would have been nice for the manager to have listened for a minute instead of being in full on Perry Mason defense mode!!!!! I just wanted to ask how long the intermission would last because we were clocking a one hour wait and if it was going to be longer, we would leave. When she heard my request finally she said they would start seating again soon. That was it for me! My son and I had waited for one hour. If the staff had been honest from the start and simply communicated to the customers that they were extremely busy and the wait times would be upwards to an hour , we could've made an informed decision whether to stay or leave . Communication is key when you operate a business and customers always appreciate good , honest service. I do not feel that is too much to ask from an establishment , in a city where I live , raise my family and pay my taxes!!! Ordered cheese fries with bacon.. burned it ... went very light on the cheese and scallions .. and a little light on the bacon. Hula burger was good ! As usual ( mushroom burger ) ordered side salad instead of fries ... ranch was runny and the salad was over chopped and wet .. so the dressing didn't coat very well .. had enough of it and pushed aside ! Just left from sitting in the bar with Abraham, started off good but ended up horrible. Never brought a refill of iced tea, was more focused on watching the game then attending to his customers but I guess it's what you think when management is also sitting there watching the tv. I'm a server and this service was horrible he also charged us for the tiki tenders not on happy hour but I didn't wanna say anything cause didn't wanna get my card ran twice for his mess up. I also tip over 20% but your mess up and horrible service was the first time in along time I've ever tipped under 20%. Learn from your mistakes recheck the check and never be on your phone or watching tv in guests view that's unprofessional. My restaurant would never allow that. Just seemed as if we were bothering him every time we needed something but a good server should know to get something before the guest asks for it. read more

Super bummed for terrible service today. I understand we are in a pandemic and there is no dine in option but it's not an excuse to send people home with garbage food take out. All our burgers were medium RARE when we asked for medium they had just a thin light sear bloody and the meat was cold to the touch. Had to cook my meal when I got home. The fries were old hard stale over cooked bottom of the bag tiny crunchy pieces cold hard and dry and OVER salted over all my entire meal was inedible. They like so many other businesses are trying to recoup all the money they lost during the lockdown....and like so many other businesses they're trying to do it RIGHT AWAY. The price increases and reduction of add-ons. No more fries (sides) with the sandwich and the sandwich prices have gone up. No menu so we had to scan the QR code to see a menu that still had the sides as a no charge add-on. The waiter/bartender (we sat in the bar area) stated that it was incorrect and we had to pay extra for a side. How about you fix the QR code? No menus, increased prices.....at some point people won't be be able to afford to go out and these foolish businesses will be back in the same boat they were in during lockdown. SO SHORT SIGHTED. And to add to it when I questioned the wrong QR code the bartender copped an attitude. WILL NOT BE GOING BACK TO THE ISLANDS OFF MAGNOLIA any time soon. read more

You know that old saying you can't go back? This was absolutely apropos for our visit today but first Islands was a huge success in the 90's. We could all go and with tax and tip lunch was 12 bucks and I was taking home half a burger that my husband happily devoured when he got home from work. My work mates and I went about twice a month. A friend took his family for Easter and I thought all the Islands were gone and right then I wanted to go. So I pulled cash and we went for a early dinner. It's no longer the cool spot for young professionals but a side show trick right out of Disneyland. Little kids everywhere and the parents quietly ignoring the bad behavior. We were stared at, faces made at us and interrupted. It was ridiculous. We ordered a small wings, 1 hamburger and 1 wrap sandwich with a small side of onion rings. The burgers are smaller and not nearly as nice, the wrap was like a medium burrito, the teriyaki tasted burned and the French fries were old. The onion rings had been fried and then fried again. Not the same onion rings either but a different bite. It was all ridiculous and with tax and tip those 3 three things were 61 bucks. Better that I went home and made a sandwich. I get with the economy what it is but there's a reason most of these restaurants are now closed and you would think someone might just catch on. We won't go back. read more

Let's start off by saying that I've been coming to islands since I was a young kid, when they use to wear Hawaiian shirts. Ordered 2 burgers med rare with fries. Simple. One burger came okay with cold fries that were the size of skittles. My girls burger came black, extremely overdone with cold small fries too. She was upset but starving. Nevertheless, she ate it because she was just too hungry. The server replaced the fries after complaining about them. The manager asked us how our dinner was and we told him what happened. He than proceeded to ask if we wanted dessert on the house and I said that I came in for my birthday for the free dessert. He proceeded to say that they can't figure out what's going on in the window. The fries looked "great in the window/fluffy/golden brown". I'm not sure who's fries he was looking at. Overall experience, server was ok. Manager made excuses.. paid over 40$ for 2 burgers and fries. 2/10 experience. 2 was for the easy parking access and fast service. Got stuck in log jam due to an accident at the 15/91 freeway so I exited and lo and behold there is an Islands. Since it was around 6pm I figured I may as well get dinner. Ordered a long board lager and my fav Bluenami burger. Cooked medium well was perfect. Bottomless fries and great service. This place saved my night. read more

During my last visit for my dads birthday. We were told "We don't do that" so many times it was actually comical. Here are SOME of the things I learned Islands will NOT do for their customers..... 1. Put a fish taco and a chicken taco on the same plate at the request of the customer even if the customer is willing to pay extra. "OH WE DON'T DO THAT, DON'T BELIEVE ME? OK, ILL BRING MY MANAGER OVER SO HE CAN TELL YOU" 2. Bring a side salad BEFORE the meal even if requested by the customer. "OH ACTUALLY WE ALWAYS BRING THE SALAD WITH THE MEAL" 3. Bring more than two salsas for the table with their endless chips and salsa - even when requested by a customer with a table of 7 "SORRY WE JUST BRING TWO PER PLATE" Our waiter visited our table to drop off appetizers but did not offer refills, so we asked for refills which still took several minutes and us having to stack all of our empty cups at the edge of his table to get refills. We also ordered 2 dessert plates and requested that our waiter sing happy birthday to my dad just to receive the check 10 minutes later and "oh, sorry I didn't get a chance to sing happy birthday" This was a Tuesday night by the way. I'm sure not the busiest night for them. They have done so much better in the past. What happened Islands? Why are you putting so much emphasis on what you do not do for your customers instead of doing what you can to make the experience enjoyable? I want a refund on the birthday dessert. We came a month ago it was good, service was good, and it was a good overall experience. Came back tonight not so much. The manager was polite when we came in, got us seated right away, and our server was on it. After waiting at least 45 mins for our food. One burger came out without its onion rings. I agree may not be a big deal to you but to my husband it is. He needs alllll his food at one time. He was so upset after waiting that long for our two bugers (no apps) he sent it back. The manager said ok and then threw, yes threw the food on a table behind us. That is where my problem is. You are modeling appropriate and professional behavior and you getting pissed and throwing trays isn't it. My burger was well overdone although I ordered it medium rare. Nobody even came back to check that my food was OK and after her response I didn't dare let them know. When I walked out the Manger didn't say thanks have a good night nothing. To you I say grow up. You could have apologized and attempted to win back customers and you didn't. We will not be back and I am happy to share how disappointed I am with her response with my friends and family in the area. read more

Pass the sign for this Islands all the time when commuting for work. Today told my husband I wanted to go here since we were in the area. Read all the reviews and they did not disappoint. Staff is friendly and attentive. Our server Madison was very hospitable and friendly. The tempura green beans were tasty and the rest of our food was on point. Also love that they had one of my fav craft beers (Deschutes Haze IPA). Will definitely come back to this location again. read more

Horrible service and a rip off for a small MaiTai to go! They used to come in a nice jar, for $14 I could justify the price. But no mason jar plus horrible service is two thumbs down for this location. The least they could do is lower the price if jars are no longer included. They could also provide excellent service. I walked in and was waiting. Watched the guy as he set up his station, made replacement cocktails, all while I was waiting and watching him. No sense of priority for a waiting customer. We recently went back to Islands after a long Covid break. The menu has always been rather limited, unless you want a burger, which is why we only go occasionally. Very bad business move to remove fries as a feee side. Now, I cannot justify $13-14 for just a burger, and not a very good one at that. A family of 4 shouldn't pay $125 for a burger dinner. I don't think I have ever gone to an Island's I didn't love, but this one is a gold mine. We cruised in about thirty minutes til closing, hoping to catch the end of the Laker game. We went to the bar and met Ivan (or is it Ian? Why do I keep getting confused?!) our bartender. He was fantastic! Sadly, I forgot my ID, but he made jokes and suggested some non-alcoholic tastes for me. He checked up on us, always had our drinks nice and full. Now get this, the game went into overtime and they were all closed up. We were ready to go (being the only customers there), but he said NO! And to stay and enjoy the game! Fast forward almost two weeks later.. "Hey guys, how's it going? Did you remember your ID this time?" Yes, he remembered us. I have to give a guy props for that! You don't HAVE to remember people that come through, but when you do...that's some GREAT customer service. && it was only our second time going! Food wise, I ordered the buffalo wings, French fries, and Mahi-Mahi Tacos. All were fantastic. Their wings are definitely in my top 5 and I recommend it for anyone who enjoys their wings! The fries were crisp, but not over done. I like that they are a little thicker so you can still rate the potato, but not as thick as steak fries. Mahi-Mahi tacos were good. I think I could have used more Mahi and less lettuce, but not bad and they had a great sauce to couple it with. Overall, five stars for a solid staff and food. read more

We come to this location often, and the service is usually good. Today, the service was fine, but our burgers came out cooked wrong. They had switched the patties in our order, so my husband got medium well, and I got medium on the rare side. I cannot eat meat that red, so we alerted our server who apologized and took our meals away to be recooked. While we were waiting a server brought some fresh, hot fries over to us. This was super nice, and we appreciated the gesture. When they brought our meals back we dug in. Mine was cooked medium well, so I was happy. My husband took a bite and realized that they added mayo and pickles, which he hates, so he had to eat his burger without a bottom bun. The manager apologized and offered to remake his burger, but he was starving, so he said no. They took the burger off our bill and we appreciated it. We will still continue to come to this location, and I'm sure our experience will be better next time, so I will update this review. Everyone has an off night, and this was the case here. read more

I used to think you've been to one Islands you've been to all of them. I mean, how can anyone screw up Islands? It is pretty difficult. Then you come to a place where the little things are just a little different from every other Islands you've beeen to and that makes a difference. The wait to be seated is hardly ever an issue. The wait to take your order is just a little bit quicker than the other Islands I've been to and the wait to receive your food is just a little better shorter. The best part is of this Islands is the constant refill of my drink. I usually just order water and most places are just so slow to refill water (if they even refill it at all!) but my cup runneth over at this Islands. There is construction going on right now so it might be a little bit of an issue to get to this Islands. Also, seeing as it is at the entrance of a freeway (the 15) the traffic passing that area is a little messy too. It is, however, worth a little stop and go to have a good dining experience at one of my favorite chain restaurants. read more

Great service but so sad for the change Islands has rolled out a new menu 3 weeks ago no more fries with your meal. You will pay around $13.00 for your sandwich and anywhere from an extra $6.00 to $12.00 if you want a side of fries depending on what kind and not bottomless. Not sure if the restaurant will be able to uphold the high end image but I will say, the service from Abraham does. He is an amazing server and definitely makes up for it. The change gets 3 stars but he gets 5 stars from me! read more
