I've had inconsistent experiences at Islands restaurants. However, this night with my husband for dinner, was the absolute best experience I've ever had in my decades of coming to Islands!!! The service was phenomenal. Period. The timing of everything was spot on. We both made those weird moaning noises with nearly every bite of our appetizer and meals and I kept saying "Oh my goodness this is sooo good this time I can't even!" I usually get the Yaki Tacos custom and they were hot, fresh, packed with sweet flavorful teriyaki chicken and yummy cheeses and the tortilla was cooked perfect; soft with a tinge of crisp around the edges. Compared to the last experience it was polar opposite but also better than any other time; Friendly, pleasant, skilled, helpful and professional service by everyone; hostess, expediter, busser, server (especially). We were sat at a booth in the back side for the first time which may have also had an impact on our experience because it felt a bit more private even though we don't go to Islands for that "quiet dinner date" lol. We now can't wait until our next date night to islands vs this time when we first sat down with reserves and trepidation. Kudos to the entire Islands team working on this night! read more

This location has been around for a very long time. I'm glad to see it still here. It's nostalgic and comforting. I enjoy looking at the decor inside and I do feel like I'm off on some island for a bit. Our server was attentive and nice. Their summer drink special looked interesting; I tried the prickly pear with coconut milk and it was actually pretty tasty! Overall, food came out in a timely manner and everything tasted good. The Kalua pork tacos stood out with its flavorful and well seasoned pork. I'd order it again! I feel this restaurant is just OK. Last visit there was very underwhelming. I had the nachos, and they were quite soggy without much flavor. I also ordered a pink lemonade and it had a horrific taste. I asked for a regular lemonade instead and it had the exact same taste. It tasted the way gauze smells. I always order lemonade at Islands, so I am not sure what the deal was at this location. I was unable to drink it, but still paid for it. The table was dirty when we sat down, as well as the seats. I have been coming to this particular Islands for for many years, and totally did not know I didn't write review. Well that changes today. This is one of those places that is so laid-back, that you'd almost want to just hang out the whole day. They have a very low-key vibe. From the decor, to the surfing channels on all the TVs, kind of this place does a great job of giving you that Island vibe. I've never encountered anyone on staff that's been less than friendly, everybody knows what they're doing and really wants to make your stay pleasurable. I've done both bar and table service and both have been excellent and without reproach. The food here is great, all the burgers are top notch. Never had a bad one in the years. I've been coming here today though I had a solid which was their chicken Caesar which was really delicious. If you're really hungry, order it with extra meat and they have really good iced tea. One thing that makes a difference is you and may have clean restrooms, and I have never been to a chain restaurant that has Pina restrooms in this. Whoever the wait staff is that goes in there and doesn't make sure that it's consistently clean. Bottom line? This is a great place to come either for happy hour or for lunch or even just a casual meal on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. read more

Seeking a repeat performance on our last 5-star experience here, we decided to go to Islands' happy hour again. Got our "usual" sliders (3 for each of us), a couple of $4 light beers and the highlight of all sides, Tempura Green Beans with ranch style dipping sauce. We were served efficiently by a young man named Steve (I think) and he came back to assure we were okay more than once. The restaurant seems to be well-kept and the din at "Happy Hour" (3:00-6:00pm) is lower (our "old folks' preference) than during peak dining hours. Food is good, service and kitchen good, prices fair, ambiance nice. EVERYTHING is SO expensive these days! I think I first came here as a kid 40 years ago. Just stopped in for lunch while driving from LA to SF and it's still great! The service is fast and friendly. This place is great for large families and group events. It has great burgers and other dishes. Service is great, parking is convenient. My only complaint is that my bun top was burnt, but I didn't say anything since we were part of a family birthday party. The business had very little customers this time around. He was really sweet, with such good vibes, he made sure to check on us and was hustling around that restaurant like a boss. I decided to try something new and instead of ordering a burger I ordered the fish tacos. The fish tacos tasted really good and I also enjoyed a discounted price for their happy hour nachos. If I had one critique, they're a little heavy on the slaw that they put on the tacos. By the time I got to my second and third taco, the corn tortillas were already disintegrating from the wet cabbage slaw. We have tried everything on the menu--juicy burgers, plump chicken sandwiches, fresh salads, tasty tacos and bowls, appetizers, desserts, and frosty beverages. The frosty mugs are the coldest around. The Islands beers are excellent! The service is always exceptional. The Islands team is friendly and helpful every visit. They are part of the whole nostalgic feel. Food was alright. But I'm more irritiated at how disrespectful they were to my partner during dinner. I ordered a margarita for her because the server didn't even ask her if she wanted anything to drink (mind you, we are both 27 years old). The server gave it to me, no problem and did not request my I.D. When he dropped it off, I hand it to my partner. Then we go about dinner with no issue whatsoever. When we get the bill, another worker comes over and requests my partner's I.D. This worker proceeds to ask her how old she is, what her full birthday is, and also tests the physical quality of her I.D. As a reminder, I was never asked for my I.D. when I ordered the drink. To top it all off, he continues to misgender her repeatedly; despite us (our group) and I repeatedly using her correct pronouns AND him seeing that her I.D. has a typically feminine name and being gendered as female. When we finally escaped the empty bar and were sat, they crammed us into a four top with five people. Zero elbow room. After we got our food. Our server disappeared and we had to ask several other servers for basics like napkins and for our check. I mean look at our table? She didn't even clear anything. We started stacking on our own. Food: my fish tacos were stale, the tortillas were hard, cold and breaking. Mom said her toucan sandwich basically tasted like what a toucan would probably taste like. Slimy and gross. Horrible experience. I was discriminated and profiled by assuming management. I was approached by an employee who wasnt our server to check my ID. OK not an issue. They continued to analyze my card, overly touch my ID, and question me when my DOB is and how old am I. It became really uncomfortable as I only had the 1 drink and I was celebrating a birthday with my family. It was really uncomfortable for not only but my family. I kept getting misgendered as well as my ID has an F and not only that but my family kept saying she/her to refer to me. The employees kept saying sir, this man here, or this gentleman. My family and I were nothing but nice but this experience left us with a sour time and we will not return to this establishment. When there is a choice.... Islands Restaurant wins. So it was for dinner with the grandkids. No problem parking up close and we were seated in the far right corner. Elena took our orders and brought us water and lemonade. French Fries comes with all sandwiches and burgers and do say yes when asked if you want fries. The fries come in separate baskets and they are still one of my favorites. They are well seasoned, firm and crispy and crunchy and not limp like what I've had at other places. The China Coast Salad tasted different so I'm told by one that orders this everytime we are here. We do not know the reason for it. Otherwise all other orders came and had the expected positive commentary. Malibu burgers were a great hit and so was my Moa Crisp Sandwich. Only my fingers know how messy the soggy buns get, but my tastebuds say..hey this chicken is good with bacon and tomato and onion and greens. We ate our baskets clean and did not go for any dessert. I came here just myself with my three kids, cause I didn't feel like cooking dinner and I was craving islands but literally the worst service they never checked on us.. The staff the host is the waiter. I mean everybody was not friendly at all. Never acknowledged my kids never greeted at us. They messed up my order, which is fine things happen., I ordered the shorter sandwich that comes with pineapple and teriyaki sauce. It came just dry with the chicken and cheese. I asked for the pineapple they said they were gonna grill it separate and I asked for the teriyaki sauce and they gave me a cold refrigerated side of teriyaki. lol I ended up telling them to remake the whole sandwich right cause I didn't want to put cold sauce on my hot sandwich and it took them half of an hour.
