Not disability friendly and not allergy safe. Seating took over 35 minutes and a reminder to another staff member because our party of two was forgotten. Parties of all sizes got Sat before us. Once ordering, I asked about allergy protocols and cross contact for burgers and fries, the waiter was nice and answered all of my questions. I was told the fries were safe and the burger could have a gluten free bun warmed on a separate space from the breads. Despite this I still had an allergic reaction! I do not recommend for any one with allergies. We were sat at a half booth half chair 2 seater and the chair was pushed to the side/edge of the table to accommodate my wheelchair. Despite this obvious reasoning, multiple staff members and patrons move the chair and made remarks during our meal. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

I'm gluten free and my family wanted to come here for dinner. Christian was our server and did a good job guiding me through what I can have and answered all my questions. I got the long border burger with an egg and jalapenos, on a gluten-free bun. I like that they use a separate fryer for the fries. We were seated quickly when we arrived. We were able to watch the first dodger game on the TV as we sat down at our table. It was nice to sit and enjoy our dinner. Came here when we saw the Happy Hour sign as we passed by to go to the nearby bank. Marisol our original server wasn't very welcoming if I'm being honest so that was a bit of a bummer. She ended up leaving and didn't bother to say anything which was beyond rude. But I guess. We ordered two drinks off the happy hour menu and two top shelf drinks and chilled at the bar. The second server Cam was great. The restaurant itself was cute, welcoming and matched the vibe of the restaurant. Burgers are pricey closed to $20.00 Happy Hour is their only redeeming quality with a decent happy hour menu Service sucks you always got to wave the help down which isn't never good when everyone out front looks and feels like they do not want to be there. TV's are decent and it's never crowded Ambiance is what you honestly expect If ya with the kids this works. If ya alone this works but they really gotta work on the crews demeanor and energy to get this place up to par and I'm being generous because I felt like I only met one staff me ever that genuinely wanted to be there ! Stopped by for lunch and was initially sat at a handicap table. Asked to be moved to another table to allow that table to be open for someone who might need it. Upon arrival I was greeted and seated right away. The waitress greeted me and took my order. I ordered the burger lunch special with the lunch special soda. The burger and fries came quickly. Unfortunately the fries were cold and seemed to be the left over fries. Asked to have fresh fries if possible but also check on the soda I ordered. The burger was decent but nothing fancy as it was a lunch special burger and not one of their specialties. The fries and soda came and everything was fine. Unfortunately the low stars is the lack of quality for the food but also an issue with the bill. The bill charged me for fries when it came with the lunch special. The waitress was able to get it fixed but when the bill came back the soda came out to about 3.59 and it was supposed to be 2.00. She took the bill back to fix it. I've always loved Islands, but this visit was disappointing. On the positive side, our server was an absolute sweetheart--friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. The service overall was great, and the prices are still pretty affordable. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the service. I ordered the chicken grilled sandwich with grilled pineapple, and it was honestly inedible--disgusting in both taste and texture. The fries, which used to be one of my favorite things here, came out cold. That was surprising, because Islands used to be consistent with fresh, hot food. It feels like the quality has really gone downhill, and I'm not sure what happened. We ordered three adult entres including a Hula burger with onion rings, a Maui burger with fries a kids burger with fries and a chop chop salad. I had the Hula burger and besides the mushrooms, I will say it was not memorable at all. I might in the future try other items but overall not impressed. I did like the fries but wish they had ketchup without nasty preservatives or additives. Customer service was superb and quite fast in bringing refreshments, water and food choices. Such a cute restaurant in Long Beach. We sat at the bar section and our bartender was so lovely and fun. They had a nice selection on their happy hour with foods and drinks; super cheap during that time. I got cheesy fries to grub on and they were good not stingy with the cheese like many other places. I love this place because the ranch is homemade and it's the best ranch I have ever had! There were two employees standing at the front talking about what they did on the weekend. Didn't stop talking at all while we stood there. One of them could have cleaned the menus. How insulting and degrading... I called the Carlsbad number, she told me to go online and give feed back. I specifically said I didn't want to speak to the manager at that location. What good would it do ? They are in charge and allow this. I start to get called from a (562). They never left a message. So I looked it up, it was the restaurant. I called back the Carlsbad number for two days and they never answered. I found the Irvine number, I called and they never answered. Sorry to add a very disappointing review. Lunch had dirty grill tasting lunch special. Also the fries were made with what tasted like used dirty oil and served like it was a normal plate, stomach problems followed. We chose this restaurant because it was conveniently located across from the aquarium, and we didn't want to move our cars and deal with parking again. Due to our large group, they seated us at two tables across from each other. The server had to make multiple trips to bring us what we needed, and after talking to my son-in-law, I found out she never brought some of the items they requested. We ended up over-tipping without knowing the full situation. The food was just okay--my mom and son enjoyed their meals, but the rest of us found it pretty average. I had lunch with a friend from out of town and the meals were great. This was my first time trying the burger bowl and it was exactly what I needed. It had protein and greens, tasted great, crispy and fresh. The Cheese fries were full of flavor and the cocktails were made perfectly. I haven't been to this Islands since I was a kid! The place was just as I remembered it. We were sat at a booth pretty quickly. Our server was kind and gave us some recommendations. I ordered a salad which was okay. It tasted a bit like stored greens, but the sauce and protein was really good. The fries came out cold but at least the server brought back a new basket pretty quickly. Prices are fair, services as best they can do, when we went it seemed like they had only one server working the whole restaurant and also doubling as the hostess. Go to the bar section for happy hour and hope that Juliet is there! My SO and I came here on election day after he had option paralysis (Islands is always a yes). If you sit in the bar section during HH you get discounted food and drinks - this is a no-brainer for us. He had his burger and fries, I had my chicken tendies and fries. We couldn't complain one bit. I'm actually impressed at Island's Buffalo sauce since it packs a decent amount of heat (it's vinegar based but not as burn your eyes and nose as others can be). My out of state co-worker friend from a recent temporary assignment flew into Long Beach for the Grand Prix this weekend with his better half, and we met for dinner on Thursday evening at the Pike Outlets where Thunder Thursday was. At the Pike Outlets, they have 16 different eateries, but I was being strategic in deciding which restaurant to go to, trying to pick one that didn't have a location where they reside. I went with Islands not just because of that, but out of a possible 25 stars, my Yelp friends have given 24. Sad to say my experience wasn't as good even though I do appreciate having my parking validated so that I could enjoy the rest of Thunder Thursday and pay a lesser parking fee. I've seen Islands locations in Cerritos and Seal Beach, and I've also been to one in the South Bay years ago, so I kind of knew what to expect. Our server was Lino (sp?), and while he wasn't bad, I kind of got the impression that he'd much rather be out at Thunder Thursday than working as a server that Thursday. He was able to answer my questions about the menu with ease, but I can't be certain he really appreciated our business, even though the others may disagree. My co-worker friend ordered the Pipeline, but without the veggies since he thinks the veggies would make the burger too thick and not as tasty. Instead of fries, he went with a Caesar Salad, a premium side at Islands. His better half went with the Chicken Beach Bowl. Both enjoyed their entrees. I did enjoy my Hawaiian Burger on Turkey Patty with Steamed Vegetables, another premium side with the same upcharge, but not 100%. Lino mentioned that the steamed vegetables were just broccoli and carrots, though I wish they included a few more for added variety. However, it was a good choice for me since I'm trying to eat healthy and avoid the fries, which are the only side that do not incur an upcharge. I joked that my friend should have asked for the veggies to be on the side and give them to me to make my own salad with the steamed vegetables. Actually, now that I think about it, we should have asked if that was allowed or if that was forbidden. Worth asking though. The Hawaiian Burger consists of Teriyaki sauce, fresh pineapple, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, onions, and mayo. I was debating between that and another Hawaiian island, Maui, which is similar, but with guacamole taking the place of Teriyaki sauce and the disputed pizza topping. Well, pineapple may also be a disputed burger topping, at least for my burger because that and the Teriyaki Sauce made the burger way too soggy for me to eat normally. The burger got too slippery that after a couple of bites, I had to eat the rest of the burger with a fork and knife, which they had given to me. Actually, they gave me two forks. One for the steamed vegetables and one for the burger I'm guessing? Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the burger, but yikes ~$17 for a burger that was too soggy to eat by hand? I probably would have liked the Kilauea better. In fact, I probably would have gone for that, but a photo on the menu showed crispy onions in the burger, yet the menu didn't spell out crispy onions. I found that really odd. On the menu, there is a section for Local Favorites, and one of them is the Moa Kai (Tuna). The description started with white albacore tuna salad, which made me think this was a salad, but when I hopped on their ordering website, I saw it was a sandwich! Had I known it was actually a sandwich, I probably would have picked that one instead. In addition to bowls and burgers, Islands also serves chicken sandwiches, salads, tacos, and even burritos. We also got a Chocolate Lava to share, and mind you, it's *really* rich! A fudge brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, roasted almonds, and a cherry on top, though on our plate, it was a cherry on side lol. While the size is pretty extravagant, the taste isn't much so. It's exactly what you'd expect after reading the description two sentences ago. There was a point where I was about to run out of water, and when Lino came by to check on us, I asked for more water. It took almost the same amount of time to get our food for him to get me a new mug of water. I thought he would have gotten a pitcher and refilled my mug instead, but I suppose that is the norm for Islands. In regards to parking, I parked at the PIke Outlets Parking Garage. I'm glad I noticed a sign at the front saying Islands will validate parking so that customers can get 90 minutes of parking for free. Pretty cool! I don't know the normal rate, but after spending over 3 hours at the Pike Outlets, my parking fee was only $6. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but some aspects missed the mark that I couldn't help but wonder if we would have had a better experience at California Pizza Kitchen directly across from Islands. Tough to say, but next time I'm at the Pike Outlets, I'm more likely to go there instead of here again. read more
