I hadn't been to an Islands in over a decade but man, I think my love for this place was reawakened. The food and service by Christian was great. My out of state co-worker friend from a recent temporary assignment flew into Long Beach for the Grand Prix this weekend with his better half, and we met for dinner on Thursday evening at the Pike Outlets where Thunder Thursday was. At the Pike Outlets, they have 16 different eateries, but I was being strategic in deciding which restaurant to go to, trying to pick one that didn't have a location where they reside. I went with Islands not just because of that, but out of a possible 25 stars, my Yelp friends have given 24. Sad to say my experience wasn't as good even though I do appreciate having my parking validated so that I could enjoy the rest of Thunder Thursday and pay a lesser parking fee. I've seen Islands locations in Cerritos and Seal Beach, and I've also been to one in the South Bay years ago, so I kind of knew what to expect. Our server was Lino (sp?), and while he wasn't bad, I kind of got the impression that he'd much rather be out at Thunder Thursday than working as a server that Thursday. He was able to answer my questions about the menu with ease, but I can't be certain he really appreciated our business, even though the others may disagree. My co-worker friend ordered the Pipeline, but without the veggies since he thinks the veggies would make the burger too thick and not as tasty. Instead of fries, he went with a Caesar Salad, a premium side at Islands. His better half went with the Chicken Beach Bowl. Both enjoyed their entrees. I did enjoy my Hawaiian Burger on Turkey Patty with Steamed Vegetables, another premium side with the same upcharge, but not 100%. Lino mentioned that the steamed vegetables were just broccoli and carrots, though I wish they included a few more for added variety. However, it was a good choice for me since I'm trying to eat healthy and avoid the fries, which are the only side that do not incur an upcharge. I joked that my friend should have asked for the veggies to be on the side and give them to me to make my own salad with the steamed vegetables. Actually, now that I think about it, we should have asked if that was allowed or if that was forbidden. Worth asking though. The Hawaiian Burger consists of Teriyaki sauce, fresh pineapple, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, onions, and mayo. I was debating between that and another Hawaiian island, Maui, which is similar, but with guacamole taking the place of Teriyaki sauce and the disputed pizza topping. Well, pineapple may also be a disputed burger topping, at least for my burger because that and the Teriyaki Sauce made the burger way too soggy for me to eat normally. The burger got too slippery that after a couple of bites, I had to eat the rest of the burger with a fork and knife, which they had given to me. Actually, they gave me two forks. One for the steamed vegetables and one for the burger I'm guessing? Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the burger, but yikes ~$17 for a burger that was too soggy to eat by hand? I probably would have liked the Kilauea better. In fact, I probably would have gone for that, but a photo on the menu showed crispy onions in the burger, yet the menu didn't spell out crispy onions. I found that really odd. On the menu, there is a section for Local Favorites, and one of them is the Moa Kai (Tuna). The description started with white albacore tuna salad, which made me think this was a salad, but when I hopped on their ordering website, I saw it was a sandwich! Had I known it was actually a sandwich, I probably would have picked that one instead. In addition to bowls and burgers, Islands also serves chicken sandwiches, salads, tacos, and even burritos. We also got a Chocolate Lava to share, and mind you, it's *really* rich! A fudge brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, roasted almonds, and a cherry on top, though on our plate, it was a cherry on side lol. While the size is pretty extravagant, the taste isn't much so. It's exactly what you'd expect after reading the description two sentences ago. There was a point where I was about to run out of water, and when Lino came by to check on us, I asked for more water. It took almost the same amount of time to get our food for him to get me a new mug of water. I thought he would have gotten a pitcher and refilled my mug instead, but I suppose that is the norm for Islands. In regards to parking, I parked at the PIke Outlets Parking Garage. I'm glad I noticed a sign at the front saying Islands will validate parking so that customers can get 90 minutes of parking for free. Pretty cool! I don't know the normal rate, but after spending over 3 hours at the Pike Outlets, my parking fee was only $6. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but some aspects missed the mark that I couldn't help but wonder if we would have had a better experience at California Pizza Kitchen directly across from Islands. Tough to say, but next time I'm at the Pike Outlets, I'm more likely to go there instead of here again. read more

On July 1, 2026, I visited Islands Restaurant Long Beach Pike location, located at 55 S Pine, Long Beach, CA 90802, with my family. The experience I had there was the worst I have ever had at a restaurant. My family ordered the: Tiki Tenders, Maui Burger (Slightly Pink/Med. Well) w/fries, Hawaiian Burger without tomatoes or onions, served with cheese fries (Well Done), House Side Salad w/ ranch, and a Bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup. When my family and I received our orders, we were disappointed in all aspects, both the food and the service. The Chicken Tortilla Soup seemed to have been extremely watered down and lacked flavour. The ranch; that arrived with the salad and later with the Tiki Tenders & Cheese Fries, had a thin consistency, like it had been watered down in the kitchen. We brought this to our server's attention after she eventually came over after sitting and having a lengthy casual conversation with another guest at a table across from us. The server then asked if I would like a refill on my soup; we let her know I would rather not. She responded that she would go see why things were tasting watered down. However, she just sent the manager out. The manager, when arrive to the table, just like the server, the manger did not introduce herself. She plainly said, "Your server said you had a problem with your food." We explained to her about the issue we discussed with the server, hoping she would at least offer to fix these issues; that never happened. The manager did not even offer to bring out more ranch or apologize for the lack of flavour and consistency of the soup. The only thing she asked was if we needed any water. After the response we received about the minor inconveniences, we didn't even feel compelled or comfortable to bring up the fact that both of the burgers we received were wrong. The Maui burger patty lacked seasoning/flavour and was supposed to be cooked medium well and arrived more medium rare. The Hawaiian burger was supposed to be cooked well-done and arrived medium well. The fries served with the Maui burger were overly salted on the bottom layer, making it impossible to finish the fries. The waiter came and checked on us one more time and asked if we needed anything. We said yes to a water refill and more ranch for the Tiki Tenders. We waited, and those items never came. The next time she came to the table, she asked if we wanted boxes. We let the server know that she never brought the items she said she would and that yes, we would like boxes. She apologized and went and got boxes and the check, and quickly walked away. Over the experience, moving too quickly, I already had my phone up to tap and accidentally tapped before reading the invoice. Knowing this, I delayed signing and tipping and waited for the server to come back. About five minutes later, she did return, and she stated she could not go back. As I have worked in other restaurants before and to fix that we just closed out the app on the Toast machine, and the transaction would not go through. So I asked her to go ask or get her manager to confirm. However, the server then went to the back and immediately decided to commit fraud; she signed off on my check herself. I know this because that is when the transaction finally went through on my phone. After this, the server did not return; she sent the receipt over with another staff member. We then stopped another server or busser on the floor and asked them to bring the manager. The manager then came out, and I explained what happened and told her that her server just signed my check for me without asking. She said she couldn't give me a copy of the signed receipt after I asked her for one. During the exchange, the manager kept taking my receipt from me as I slid it on the table towards me. In the end of it all, the manager then took my receipt as a whole and refused to return my receipt or help after I just told her that her staff just committed a federal offence of forgery and fraud. When the transaction is no longer pending, I will be filing a report with my credit card company as well as filing a police report. The behaviour displayed by the Islands staff at this location was entirely inappropriate and unacceptable. read more

Go to the bar section for happy hour and hope that Juliet is there! My SO and I came here on election day after he had option paralysis (Islands is always a yes). If you sit in the bar section during HH you get discounted food and drinks - this is a no-brainer for us. He had his burger and fries, I had my chicken tendies and fries. We couldn't complain one bit. I'm actually impressed at Island's Buffalo sauce since it packs a decent amount of heat (it's vinegar based but not as burn your eyes and nose as others can be). In the spur of the moment, a thought sprain up and craving for burgers ensued. First place that came to mind was "any burger" joint in the nearby east side Long Beach as I was visiting family. Thanks to my nephew, he called out "Islands Burger" and the rest of the night was purely incredible. We pulled up to restaurant and found plenty of parking at around 7pm either in the Long Beach's Pikes Parking structure or street parking (free after 9pm). Got in through the large door and was served by an awesome reception and was immediately seated to a booth. There seemed to be quite a lot of patrons here enjoying what looks to be delicious meals already. There are plenty of booths and tables. They even have a bar area with bar stools for accommodating those wanting to enjoy a slice of peace with their meals. Got seated and the waiter took our drinks first. Their local on tap Island Amber Lager is very nice and smooth. Not too hopi like the IPAs ( they are good too I'm quite positive about that). After drinks came out, the food order was taken to where we ordered the following: -- 2 x Kailalue Burgers with an extra fried egg in it. This combination of fried eggs along with medium cooked beef was on par and paired well with the Lager!! -- 1 order of their classic burger -- 3 Fries (it was delicious and simply fresh off the fryer). It was made just right. The food came out fairly quick with no hiccups. I'm definitely venturing here the next time I'm in Long Beach again. I will have to try other burgers and drinks on tap next time. read more

I haven't been around the Long Beach area for the longest time but after being at the aquarium I was getting hungry and I didn't know what to eat. I did see this place when I was in the area so I thought why not try something new. As soon as I got into the building I was welcomed and seated at the bar. The environment was a different change to see but it was nice overall. The food was good. Even though it was my first time being there it was really good even the burgers, it was a good size. Deserts were good as well, ima try the pie next time I go but if you're around the area or spent sometime at the aquarium and wanna grab a bite or something new I would recommend this place. Our host at the front door and Yolanda our waiter was wonderful , we came in with my daughter celebrating her 13th bday with 3 of her girlfriends. I had the chicken salad khanappali kobb , I recommend to ask for the dressing on the side . When dressing mixed in , it was just too much dressing and made the vegetables too soaked , also I didn't like bitting into a big glob of blue cheese . I had to spit it out . The service was friendly and attentive and the waitress even brought us a refill while waiting for her to square up the bill. Islands Restaurant is your classic sit-down restaurant where the interior theme resembles a Y2K style tiki resort, at least that's how my gf describes it. It's friendly, inviting, and familiar. The staff were super attentive and laid-back, and always made sure that we were taken care of. Ajah was incredible and made us feel welcomed! We came here on a Sunday afternoon, and on a Monday evening. Both days weren't super busy packed, so it was nice to get a bit of relaxation and dining time after walking around The Pike and the nearby lighthouse area. ALSO, this place can validate your parking stub if you parked your car at The Pike structure. We ordered the Kilauea burger with side of Truffle Fries to replace the regular fries, Classic Fried Fish Tacos, and the Chicken Tenders. What I really liked about their menu is that when you order a burger, you have to option to make customizations. But not only that, you can choose to replace your side of fries with any of their other fries that they normally have on their "Appetizer" section. This helps us to save on cost as well as our calorie limit. Of course, you can choose to just order the fries as an appetizer if you so wish. My gf and I prefer to stomach most of our food through the main entrees, and not from empty calories like fries. The only downside that I see from their menu is that in the grand scheme of things, their menu options do seem a bit limited. You're really looking at your choices of salad bowls, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, and drinks. Doesn't sound like a lot of options for some folks. Kilauea Burger is one of their best selling burgers, and it is pretty delicious! If you're wondering which burger to choose, I definitely recommend this one. Truffle fries are also pretty good, nicely cooked and not super starchy. Comes with a side of what seems to be like a garlic aioli dipping sauce. I got the Classic Fried Fish Tacos because it's the only one that has corn tortilla. Always gotta go with corn tortilla! Comes in 3 tacos, good sizes. The portion of the fish is big, which is nice. The fried batter part, however, could be seasoned a bit more with salt or other flavoring. Overall, I still enjoyed it. Chicken tenders are from the appetizer section, and they are huge! Big pieces, and several of them. Perfect for sharing. Comes with a buttermilk ranch dipping sauce. Chicken is juicy, not overly flavored. It's your typical "I'm not sure what I want so I'll just get something I'm familiar with" item. Overall, you can expect to eat good here if you like burgers, tacos, fries, sandwiches, and alcohol. Item variations can seem limited to some, but I think the quality of their menu still holds up well. read more

Honestly, my sister and I went since we noticed there was a tropical flight, a margarita flight and a beer flight! We started with the tropical flight, which consisted of the Deep Blue Sea, Mai Tai, Shipwreck and Big Island Ice Tea. They each packed a little punch and were fabulous.
