I went to this islands pretty much when it opened, so it was very quiet and i couldn't see any other people from where i was sitting. The dividers are very high. This is why I took off one star. Long time customer here severely disappointed by your company's decision to remove grilled fish from the menu. I've enjoyed grilled fish in the island bowl and in tacos for many years. I tried the deep fried fish. It tasted awful and was a challenge to digest last night... An unsuccessful challenge I might add Islands suspended grilled fish during COVID for "health" reasons. Terrible service, profanity used by staff in front of customers, dirty glasses with lipstick on them, broom left by our booth that I tripped on. My previous review was acknowledged by theresa@customer relations. I explained in detail what transpired and no further follow up from corporate. My entire baseball team went to eat after a long day at the baseball fields. Kids and parents were extremely hungry and thirsty. Islands made sure we had plenty of room for our big party of about 25. With that said our waiter who's name is Dustin was absolutely incredible. He absolutely knocked it outta the park for every last person there. We had our food in no time and was extremely delicious. Best part is the food, service, ambiance was on point. Once again though Dustin was truly amazing getting us all the drinks we needed, condiments, plates, napkins, straws etc... We like Islands, and we were sad when the Islands closest to us closed down. We used to go there at least once per week. It was our go-to spot for dinner. This particular Islands is not so good. The food was good and the only enjoyable part of our experience. First off, the restaurant was freezing cold. I mean like really cold. We were seated away from the front entrance and it was still cold. They kept leaving the front doors open and it made a difference in the temperature of the restaurant. Our server kept disappearing and would often forget to bring us what we asked for, like silverware and napkins. We had to ask at least three times. I had to flag her down as she was walking right by us to get a box and our check. Our fries came out first. Then we waited at least 10 to 15 minutes for the rest of our food to arrive at the table. The fries were all gone by the time the burgers arrived. And when the burgers arrived, one of our burgers was incorrect which they noticed in the kitchen. My daughter then had to wait another 15 minutes for her burger to arrive. When we inquired about getting more fries, believing they still had bottomless fries, we were told that it would be $1.79 per basket to order more. So no more fries. It would have been nice if they came out with the burgers. We still like Islands. The food is good. We will just stick with the Agoura location. read more

The real reason I'm writing this review is to say how generous and gracious this restaurant has been towards my children's school fundraising events. The Manager, Dustin, at Islands have been supporting our school and students for going on 5 years! The food was decent as usual. I've been a patron of this restaurant for 15 years. My wife and I visited the restaurant on 8/21/25 and "Samson" was our waiter. Overall it's a decent experience each time we've gone. The restaurant is always clean and wait times are short even when it's rush times. Food is often brought out hot without super long waits after ordering. For context, we done here about 3-4 times a month at various times and days since we drive out from Oxnard. Obviously, not all things are without issues or concerns. Typically we've always had to wait a bit after sitting which for us isn't a big deal so we can browse the menu in peace but if you're in a rush it might be an issue for you. In terms of the quality of food, our only issue has been one today with an order of fries and the only reason I bring it up. Fries had a fishy smell and aftertaste. I pretty sensitive to that because of my food allergy so I had my husband check them also to make sure I wasn't just getting a strong whiff of a neighboring meal. We brought it up to a runner who was kind enough to offer to refill our drinks and this resulted in him, our server, the manager and the cooks getting involved. My husband made mention that I have fish allergies so it was only brought up out of concern for my safety. Our server was polite enough about it but the rest were very defensive and kept commenting loudly about it. (We sat in the bar area which faces the kitchen so you got to hear EVERYTHING.) we didn't want or ask for any discounts it was just a general comment and question if the fried fish and French fries share a heating area or were possibly handled improperly (not cooked in the same oil no one fries those things in the same oil). When asked I wanted to new fries and I said okay just to make them go away. Fries were brought out by the time I was done with the rest of the meal and I got a to-go box for them. It was very obvious they were made with hate and I didn't feel comfortable leaving them behind either. They have a popular happy hour too but the crowd gets pretty rowdy at times. We came once during a trivia night and amidst the bartender giving freebies and discounts some people clearly over did themselves so we opt to dine at a regular table if we arrive during that timeframe especially if we arrive with our kids. It's the only Islands in the area so we keep coming back but it's still a faster food sit down setting so it is what it is. read more

We've been coming to this place for years now and we've seen the quality of ingredients steadily decline, but the service never has. They have a great team working here and the service is top notch. There's such a chill atmosphere here, from the music to the decorations you feel at ease from the moment you walk in. The burgers used to be great, but over time they've gone downhill. The fries are still the same and they have a golden crunchiness on the outside with a soft flavorful inside. The ranch here is can't miss, it's really good. I used to love this restaurant. The one in Agoura Hills was amazing and very much like a locals' restaurant. This one is almost empty right now for a reason. A new bartender is cold and very mechanical. No personality at all. Robotic, I guess, is the new norm. They got our order wrong and brought our corrected onion rings order out after we had already finished all of our food. No apologies. Didn't take it off our bill. Weird. We used to see our Mai Tai made in front of us and our bartender was very generous. I think it's now a machine and I had a weird exchange with the bartender about the large amount of crushed ice in my drink. She said if I want less ice, I would be getting a much smaller glass. I just don't know what's happened to restaurant/businesses these days, but this one has changed significantly and you can tell by the number of patrons.... Probably our last trip here. We've been coming here for so many years.... It's just sad. read more

Terrible Food - Pretty Awful Takeout Experience Sorry to say but Islands has really gone downhill since we last went there. Takeout is a disaster. Had to wait 30+ minutes past the time they said it would be ready but the following made it dreadful: 1. The Baja Bowl. Literally the worst meal I've had in years. ZERO taste from the grilled chicken to the flavorless white rice. I added avocado to it for just over $2.50 and got almost none. Truly awful 2. Virgin Pina Colada - was not in my takeout order an the guy behind the counter (nice guy but had no help figuring this stuff out. I ordered it separately from my main order and had to ask for it several times before I received it. Glad I asked about it after getting my take out bag. Also charging full price - over $12 for a non-alcoholic drink is just unconscionable to me. 3. No dressing in my wife's side salad even though I ordered balsamic vinegar. At least we have some at home. I don't know who owns this chain these days but I will never return to any Islands unless I hear they've improved. read more

Servers were very attentive and friendly! Huli Huli sandwich had a nice lil sweet, spicy tang to it. Would definitely recommend! Also, I had ordered sweet potato fries. Forgot to take a photo of it considering it was the first thing they brought to the table lol the sandwich itself came out the kitchen around 5/10 min later. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it came with the sandwich in my opinion. I felt like I couldn't let them sit there and get cold hence the negative one star. Tres leches was also a great lil finishing touch. Very sweet with a nice lil caramel caramelized /crunch to the exterior of the buttercake. The vanilla ice cream wasn't very much to be desired. You can kinda taste the freezer burn until you get to the center of it. (Don't expect anything authentic regarding the tres leches tho...lol) Other than that I'd recommend this place! read more

I stopped in here for a weekday lunch and had one of the luncheon specials. These are only available Monday thru Friday. They run about $10 or $11, which I thought was a pretty good deal. There are several different items to choose from and I had the Greek Salad, which I thought was pretty good. The place specializes in hamburgers, and they have many different varieties to choose from. I was there with a group of 7 for lunch. I ordered the patty melt from the lunch menu. I've never had such a dry patty melt in my life. The meat was cooked to hockey puck hardness, not a drop of juice in sight. Even the grilled onions, sparse, were dry. Cheese, hard to detect. Do not order this item. I tried adding ketchup, then some mustard, and finally asked for some thousand island dressing. A patty melt usually has juices from the meat and onions to moisten the sandwich. My friends who ordered the double stack were happier, especially since they had lettuce and tomatoes to provide some moisture. The fries were kinda rubbery and I usually like Island's fries. I asked for crispy with ranch. The ranch was watery. Not a good day. Our server tried to please, but he was assigned too many tables and I had to wait a long time for things to try to make my sandwich edible. If it weren't for him trying, I would have given this visit but one star. The franchise usually does better. It has gone down hill since I was there about 5-6 months ago. read more

Let me start by saying, I've been eating here since 2007. I love this restaurant. But what makes it even better is the service. Tonight, my server was Nethol. He was happy, friendly, and an incredibly hard worker. Not only did he make sure to check up on us frequently, he was on time with our food and anything we needed. My son loves it here.... That is why they received 1 star and not zero.... We used to go to the Islands in Agoura Hills, sadly they closed.... This Islands has HORRIBLE service. The two times I've taken my family here, we were unfortunate enough to have the same server - a curly haired, apathetic, young man.... I think he would thrive at one of those restaurants where the servers are expected to behave like jerks!!! Both times we received our food but no utensils or napkins - I got up and walked to the serving station and helped myself - the second time this happened a group of "managers" for the restaurant were having a meeting (while eating), all four of them watched me help myself to the utensils and napkins without an ounce of care.... Are decent employees that difficult to find? The food is not edible for people over 12... My suggestion.... If your child wants to eat here - get it To Go or if you are over 12 - just order a beverage. I wouldn't eat here again if this were the only restaurant on a deserted island. read more

From the t.v.'s throughout the restaurant showing real surfers take on massive waves, the staff wearing "Aloha" Hawaiian shirts and the overall theming of the place, you too will get into that island vibration. At Islands, it's all about those Burgers and Fries! But rest assured they also have chicken, veggie patties & Impossible! Salads, soups, sandwiches & tacos in case a burger ain't yo thang, no judgement from me! Island cocktails, Wine & really Ice cold beer is a thing here, so feel free to add one to your meal to loosen up a little. After spending a day on Santa Cruz Island, we decided to have dinner at the Island restaurant. I ordered an off the menu item and the staff was able to accommodate my request. The food arrived quickly and tasted great. Our server was attentive and kept bringing the iced tea refills. The atmosphere was relaxing. We were able to catch up on the latest Olympics news by watching the Paris 2024 programming on TV. Overall, a great experience. We will be back! read more

The service is spectacular here! Our waitress, Emily was terrific! She always had a big smile behind her mask and was very fast and proxy. Someone is a good waitress when the booths are packed but the waitress keeps checking in with you to make sure your meal was good or if you needed anything. The food was so good. I got a chicken north shore sandwich and my daughter got a teriyaki chicken beach bowl. The ingredients are fresh and well cooked. The floors and tables are very clean. I recommend this Islands if you want a pleasurable food experience. The only downside was it was freezing cold in the restaurant and it was just as cold outside. It was hard to fully enjoy myself because I kept shivering! It felt like I was at the North Pole. Brrrr read more
