First time at this Islands at the Rolling Hills Plaza in Torrance. Have been to other Islands in the local area but, this was a new and good experience. Got the basics- the Big Wave burger with lettuce, tomatoes in a wheat bun and fresh cut Island fries. Crisp in the secret blend of spices. I asked my burger to cooked medium well and they did a great job with that. Hubby got a the Pipeline burger which is a chili burger. I had a taste. It's good but not something I would choose. I always love island's consistency. I use to work here when I was 18, and I ate the food before and I still eat it after I worked there for several years. We went during a play off game so they had smaller sizes for a discounted price, which is perfect!! Drink: I had their verison of the aperol spritz, it was good and refreshing. Food: they have tempura battered green beans and can't go wrong with anything battered and fried. I love this addition, or it might be around for awhile and haven't had it. I'll def get it again. We also had the chicken nachos, wnd it was perfect. The cheese even made it to the bottom chips. It use to be a consistent issue before, but not on the mini size. Finally the cheese fries! You just have to eat it before the cheese turns into a brick but still hits. Service was good and the place will always remind me of my teens and early 20s! The service here is outstanding. The server we had was assisting multiple tables, but checked up on us multiple times. All our food came out quickly. I'm very impressed with how well this establishment is run given how busy it looked. The food here has its hits and misses. The Malibu burger is very good as is the Pineapple Prickly Pear drink. We ordered our food and it came fairly quick with sizzling hot fries and a warning they were fresh out of the fryer. (Unfortunately for some reason my food pics came out blurry!) This place is always a good call. I rarely ever wants to go to Island's, but it's one of those places that we always end up. Very important to note, the chili was taken off the menu and then brought back so it is official Island's has chili again!!! That's super important because my favorite thing on the menu is the Pipeline burger. On this day, we went for some drinks and snacks just to kill some time and hang out together. Sunday at Islands did not disappoint. I decided to pick up food to go, and there was a great crowd in the bar watching football. They have a seven-day-a-week happy hour in the bar from 3 to 630, and also a happy hour during all NFL games. The waiter, Gabe, was fast and friendly. i'm definitely adding this to my rotation for the end of the NFL season. They're definitely seem to be some regulars watching the Rams game. read more

Came here for a birthday celebration with a pretty big group, and despite it being busy I feel it was still a really enjoyable time at Islands! I tried the burger salad for the first time and I really liked it! Everyone else at the table seemed to really enjoy their meals, service was pretty consistent & we had a fun time celebrating! And the waitress also brought over a complimentary ice cream sundae to sing happy birthday so it was a nice touch to the dinner experience! Definitely recommend coming in & plan to be back in the future! Servers here a nice, we got seated right away. The server came back to check on us plenty of times. The food did not take long to come out. It was fresh and cooked to perfection. We got Margarita Lites (they are priced the same as the regular Margaritas on their regular menu). We incorrectly assumed that the Lites would also be included in the Happy Hour solely based on the fact that both are priced the same. Got the bill (we were charged full price for the Lites) asked if they were part of the Happy Hour. It's also worth mentioning they incorrectly charged us more than advertised for adding protein so we believed they might have also charged us more for the Lites. When I first dined at the Rolling Hills Plaza location, it was several years after I had moved to the South Bay; by that time, the bottomless fries were no more. Not that I need it since I don't burn calories the way I used to (playing competitive tennis & other sports). On this recent return, my son's elementary school was holding a fundraiser where 20% of the proceeds for food & drinks order are donated to the school, which is pretty generous. Thanks Islands! I don't believe the menu changed much because I was able to find my favorite burger: Kilauea with Islands Fries, & M had the Jr. Wave Burger with fries & a strawberry lemonade. It was rather chaotic because of our fundraiser, with a lot of little ones running around that I worry about the servers' & kids' safety. C'mon people... keep your kiddos in check so they don't cause an accident! I thought most handled it pretty well, but there were a handful that kept repeatedly running past our table, which was right by the kitchen. Yikes! Our order came fairly quickly on this busy night. My patty was cooked to a perfect medium & nicely crusted with a kick of heat from the jalapeño & black pepper, & additional oomph from the pepperjack cheese & chipotle aioli. The lettuce was crisp & tomatoes were sweet, & cool against the hot burger. The Islands Reds are fried onions that added a nice layer of crunchy texture. I thought there would be ketchup... nope, but I can add some with the bottle in the condiments stand. He liked their fries & compared them with his fav burger restaurant's, with Islands coming out on top. His strawberry lemonade was a tad too sweet IMO, & watering it down at 2/3s was still on the sweet side! He still enjoyed his drink, but he was like "awww" & stared at me during his refill to keep the intense sugar level. Nope, not before your bedtime on 2 refills. Typically before going to the movie at the nearby AMC Theater, we stop in for dinner at islands. I usually have the Shorebird which is a grilled chicken breast with lettuce, tomato and pickles. It never disappoints. The chicken is flavorful and not over cooked so it is moist. The sweet potato fries are wonderful. It's a bit loud inside with all the tv's on but for a casual restaurant it's fine. Service is good and our waiter Joel was courteous, professional and friendly. A fun place to go read more

This white girl I hang with loves this place. She always knows what's happening like 10$ big wave days, and the change in happy hour times (even the addition of the late night happy hour), and the deals on the mai tais. So ofc I'm always there with her. The cheese fries are always the main course. And it's on the happy hour. Being on the happy hour means everyone gets everything from the happy hour-- each. If that's not a perfect day I don't know what is. Me personally I get the margs. The way they are blended is just sooooo fine. Is there even alcohol in there?! If you don't like Islands, then I don't like you. This place has more character than a 1990's Jim Carrey role. I grew up on these delicious, fresh cut fries. They are my gold standard for fries, let me take you on a journey: The initial bite is crisp, but upon breaking through the fry wall, you are met with a blast of soft, yet fluffy potato. There is a perfect ratio of crisp to potato on every chew. Before you have processed what has happened, you find your right hand already has 3 more fries in its grasp and they are approaching your mouth at lightning speed. It is truly an out of body experience. This was the spot where my Granny would take my brother and I growing up, I would get the Tiki Tenders (chicken tenders) and he would get the Sand Castle (grilled cheese). Real ones will remember when they offered endless fries. We used to go HAM until we were literally filled to the brim. Knocking off a star because when they took the endless fries away, they took a piece of my soul with it. In my twilight years, I have become more health conscious and have pivoted from my beloved tiki tenders to a beach bowl, but still must have fries every time I enter this beautiful establishment. I typically refrain from writing reviews for spots like these because they are so well-known, and established that my words will get lost in a sea of praise, criticism, and overall chatter (which I realize is the version of white-noise that comes from humans' mouth) from the masses. And I tend to hate being another blot in the blob. But I had to write this review to praise a Sea Angel that I found at Islands in Torrance. Now, I have to admit that I could have texted myself the name of the Sea Angel, but I did not. But I think that her name (I am sure actually) started with an A- so it was either Angela or Amanda. I think it was Amanda. But I might be wrong. A is for Apple, but is A for Amanda? I want her to get her praise. The server I have in my mind's eye is young(ish), I think less than 26, she wore glasses (white frames, maybe?), she had long black hair, and had like this polished professionalism that was sparked by an adorkable energy. She was thin. I realize how hard it must be to give details to a sketch artist. I hope that I gave enough information for her to get her flowers. She deserves them. When she came to tend to me and my partner in-dine I gave her an advisory that I was going to be a challenging customer. She told me that she was ready for me. W. (my partner in dine) wanted to eat the Terikaki burger. I wanted the Bluenami burger. We ordered the appetizer burger plate. It came with four sliders. What Amanda did, was understand that I wanted all the ingredients of the blue cheese burger and the teriyaki burger separately so W. can built two mini teriyaki burger and I could built two mini bleunami burgers. And then she brought all the ingredients exactly like how I imagined it. All the ingredients were in separate ramekins-- the teriyaki sauce, the pineapple, the blue cheese crumbles, the blue cheese sauce, the shoe string onion rings, it was all a sight to see. And it was not an oasis but a true vision at Islands. W. and I were able to seamlessly built our burgers. We also had some fish tacos. And the flight of cocktails. Everything was grand! I realized that sometimes, there are some things that are better to order for sit down but not for take out. For instance, we recently ordered cheese fries. I was surprised that the fries got pretty hard so I couldn't really enjoy them when we got home. This is something that you'll have to order when you sit down in the restaurant because they actually are really tasty. The staff at this restaurant are really nice and the food is actually good.
