Would not recommend, but i guess there aren't many other good options right in Allston, which probably allows this facility to remain open while having suboptimal conditions.. - Likely homeless people living in these units, given the 24hr access, sketchy looking people hanging out in the area after hours, smelly units, etc. - Likely an uninfected mouse infestation, our unit was delivered to us absolutely covered in mice poop that was haphazardly and shoddily swept up. - No in-store presence / access to moving dollies on the biggest move-in day of the year for boston. I get that Aug 31st was a sunday and Sept 1st was labor day but come on... those are the two days where storage units are the most utilized across boston, and no staff was around to provide moving dollies / assist with the crows and the chaotic parking situation. Would not recommend this place, i had a better experience last year driving all the way to newton and back, but if you have no other options... i guarantee you this place has stuck around purely because many other people have no other options for storage conveniently located in allston. read more

Storage customer here for almost 10 years and highly recommend. Lots of choice in unit size (I've had several) and most are TALL and hold more than one can imagine. The whole building is clean and the temperature control seems reliable. The building set-up is very convenient with lots of room to park indoors while loading/unloading. The facility is open long hours for those of us who may be busy during the day. The staff are great. Mike, the manager, and the rest of the staff keep a great eye on things and are always a available to say hello and make things happen. My units have been on the second floor and there is a smooth-operating elevator for each wing/section. The sections are connected so any elevator is available to use, but I've never had delays or waiting for an elevator. Good-sized, smooth operating carts are a life-saver and are available from the office. All in all, great location, excellent storage facility, and wonderful staff. read more

DO NOT STORE YOUR STUFF HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR ITEMS. This place is horrible. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. My daughter stored her stuff here for a month while she moved apartments. When she showed up to move her items out, she found that everything had been overrun with mice. They have a HUGE RODENT problem and refuse to do anything about it. So we basically paid $250 for mice to eat all of her stuff. Use Stor-U-Self in Charlestown. The units are clean, our stuff was not touched by any rodents, and they had plenty of big carts to move things in. We should have gone back here, but we wanted a place closer to her new apartment. Big mistake!!! There was a dead mouse in one of her storage bins and so much mouse poop and pee all over her bed frame and mattress. Read all the 1 star reviews before you think about storing your things here. I could also go on about how small the carts are and how they are not easily accessible. Start with free month??. ? Notice of increase within 8 weeks (contract signed 3/1 already going up...not even 2 full months later). Neither the property manager not the area manager (Mike? and David) is able to say when increases would stop but says it wont go as high as $500 but still could not give me any kind of ceiling. The company has had bad reviews and I am about to file a complaint with BBB. This place seems very sketchy to me. I have asked for copy of contract to be sent to me but I am still waiting. I am hoping to hear from Jeff or Joaquin who are shielded from communicating by the mangers. They would also not provide me their names so I had to dig around a bit. This is a buyer beware. !!!PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU RENT!!! I WONDER IF YOU WOULD CHOOSE A STORAGE UNIT THAT GOT STOLEN TWO DAYS IN A ROW We have been a customer of istorage for a long time and we own 6 units and one parking spot there. Thats how we trusted them. Everything changed on October 26, 2020. We got a call from Mike, who is the storage manager, saying that one of our unit was unlocked. We went there within an hour. And as soon as we opened our unit, we were shocked. Everything were all over the place and yes, it got stolen. Then we called the police. "fortunately" we were able to see the video tape along with the police office (see screenshots below). and it is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Two guys, JUST SLIDE UNDER THE FRONT GATE 7:20AM IN THE MORNING!!! and of course they could get inside because the door inside does not have any lock. they went straight to our unit (I wonder if theres any inside man thats been watching for them, otherwise how could they locate our unit straight away?) and they were there for 40 minutes. Here comes the MOST UNBELIEVABLE PART!! On their way out, so they were sliding again under the front gate. And while the second theft was getting all the stuff out, ONE GUY WHO'S DRIVING A BLUE SUBARU, OPENED THE GATE FOR THEM!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! HERE COMES THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE PART. The night after everything happened, my boyfriend and I decided to go back there after midnight trying to see if we could "catch" the thieves. Sound funny right? But it is the night I would never forget. We got there around 2:15AM, and not even 5 minutes after we got there, one guy, CAME BACK AGAIN!!! OMG like what??? We called 911 immediately but unfortunately he left before the police got here. We were not able to catch him because we were not sure whether he's armed or not. The police officers got here and they even laughed at the logo, because there is a huge lock next to it. And the security is so terrible. We talked to Mike and he said they will add security such as keypads to the inner door. And he said his boss is going to call us. His boss called us and said they take this very serious and will work with law enforcement to solve this. So we have been waiting for their answer since that day. Sadly, we did not hear back from them at all. At the first few days of November, we got a few calls from them asking us to pay for the rent, we did not pay because we want an answer from them. And they never called back again until last week, which they started calling again asking for rent. During the call last week, one of their employee called, and his exact words were: "Last month we give you guys for free, but this month you have to pay". Today, he called me again, and does not admit that he said that. In the phone call, he INSISTS that he never said that. I told him that I have recordings of the phone call, and he said, okay, yeah, I never said that. YEAH I WONDER WHO SAID THAT THEN? GHOST?? We then went to the storage, and talked to Mike's boss. (I have learned my lesson, and recorded the whole conversation, it will be uploaded to a link soon). And it is so funny, he said to us, its not their responsible to secure our stuff, and it is normal that our stuff got stolen. It is unbelievable that he said that. He thinks that they are doing a PERFECT job and they will not do anything to ensure the security of all their clients' stuff. Yes, with a gate that anyone could just easily slide under, and an inner entrance that opens 24/7. They think this place is safe. Which is totally opposite with that they said before, because before they said, they will add keypads to the inner entrance, but now what? We also mentioned to him that we found a personal security camera point straight into our unit. And his answer was: we can have camera anywhere we like. Okay, so that mean NO PRIVACIES IN THIS PLACE. And how am I suppose to know if the thieves did not point the camera there? I will have all the videos and recordings uploaded to a link and share it with everyone here later. This place has been a nightmare. They jack up their rates on old customers, using low advertised rates to get you in, so be forewarned that they recommend you change units frequently to be eligible for their best rates. Today we had arranged for movers to help us clear our units out, but when we arrived their own locks were on our units, and no one can help us for several days, by which time we will be expected to pay them another inflated monthly fee. That is if they haven't auctioned off our things by mistake, of course, a possibility that we are left to worry about for the next several days. And after we pay another monthly fee, will no longer have the money to pay for movers. (We are disabled and in cancer treatment.). This company is rapacious. Do NOT store anything you care about with them! read more

I didn't even have the .01 cent deal, but I thought it was p okay until I realized that there are people living in there. Storage wise - I don't see too much of a problem, but I think in terms of safty, it might be a concern. I got the $32 first month deal, but as a student living out of state $110 monthly is a little too pricy. I wish they have more student deals, but that's not up to me. In terms of the tools, they really don't have any. All I saw last time was two small pushers which fit next to nothing - and with my storage units being on another floor, making multiple trips with small pushers were every difficult. Overall, I think they are doing what they can, but I think there could be small improvements made to make satisfied customers. read more

Still wouldn't recommend. Again- suckered in with a promotional price of .01 that's steadily increased up to $107. Here's what you get for all that dough: Lots of strange activity at this storage unit- people hanging out in the storage unit, this one car that's there all the time, people watching TV, people obviously living and or spending lots of time in the storage unit. Bizarre. I've rented my fair share of storage units (10 or so facilities- most were pretty good) from being in the military and moving around that I know this level of activity is abnormal. Frankly I don't feel safe there and will be looking to get out ASAP. Save your money and store your stuff elsewhere. read more

OH. MY. GOD. NO. I've had a unit here since 2016. Ever since this place was bought out by iStorage (maybe a year ago) there have been an increasing amount of issues. The moving carts started to break so they replaced them with this tiny, hardly useable ones and you can never find one when you need one. MORE IMPORTANTLY, there is an increasing homeless population that seems to be moving into the units. I don't know how they are getting into the lot without a passcode (although the gates are often left completely open, so I'm not surprised). I don't know how they are finding completely unlocked units, because all units should be locked even if they are not currently being rented. But every time I have gone in the last several months, there has been at least one person, with multiple shopping carts, garbage everywhere, camped out, sitting in their unit. I visit my unit once every couple of weeks, so if I'm seeing them every time, this is clearly a regular thing. This last weekend, when I smelled urine and cigarette boxes and drink cans were blocking the main hallway, I finally snapped and went to speak with the guy at the front desk. I told him there was clearly someone living in unit # XYZ, and he needs to remove them. He said he couldn't. I asked him why he wouldn't call the cops, because it is gross and quite frankly unsafe. He told me he KNEW there was someone living in that unit, and when I asked him why he hadn't called the cops or removed him, he said word for word, "I understand how you feel, but I just had to kick someone out 3 days ago. I can't keep calling the cops over and over." WHAT?!?! I told him he absolutely could, because he needed to do something about it. There are no bathrooms or garbage cans on the premises for the specific purpose of keeping people from living in the units... so where do you think the people living there are peeing, pooping, and tossing their trash? Likely in the unit. And given how empty the place is and that there is one staff member working with no security, what if someone got robbed by the individuals that the employee is knowingly let stay there? I'm not trying to be a monster. I know it's winter and people are cold. But this is ridiculous, and management clearly does not care enough to do anything about it. Do not rent here if you want you belongings and your own person to feel safe. Photos of below are just of one unit last time. Bait & Switch March 28, 2021 I visited the Brighton, MA iStorage facility in person, met with propery manager Mike, and was quoted $79 per month for a 5x10 unit (first month free). I told Mike I would not need the unit until May and he said I could return with my stuff and setup the lease when I was ready. Mike gave me a tour and showed me inside a few units. In other words, there was ample opportunity for Mike to disclose additional setup fees, additionl monthly fees, and the potential for significant rate increases, but he chose to mention none of these. May 13, 2021 I returned to the iStorage facitily to rent a unit. To my dismay, the monthly rate had increased to $99 per month. Furthermore, in addition to a one-time $26 setup fee, I was told there was a REQUIRED $12 per month insurance fee - neither of which were disclosed at my initial meeting with Mike. I should have walked away right then and there, but I had with me a truck load of stuff and nowhere else to go with it, so I reluctantly rented anyway. September 13, 2021 I received a letter from iStorage notifying me of a rate increase to $116 per month, which with the $12 insurance premium would make my cost $128 per month! Cost was an important factor in choosing a self storage facility, especially because I will need the storage for several years. Starting from the initial quote, the real rate increased first by 40% then by 62%, all in less than 6 months! That's a difference of $588 per year! This is quintessential bait & switch! iStorage management knows momentum is strongly in their favor and that many people will just accept the increases because they're too busy or to avoid the burden of schlepping their stuff to another storage facility. DISPICABLE! iStorage management should be ashamed. Everyone else should look elsewhere for their self storage needs. Needless to say, I cancelled my lease with iStorage and switched to a competitor (which BTW allowed me to lock in a rate of $79 per month for 2 years). I grant iStorage 1 star because the facility itself seemed fine (clean and secure). read more

Paid 600$ for 2 months. When we moved my stuff into the storage unit, there were mouse droppings all over the floor and a dead mouse right outside. The people at the front desk insisted there was nothing to worry about and that the previous users must have had food in the unit. They did a quick sweep of the unit, clearing maybe 60% of the mouse droppings, and then put down mouse traps. When my boyfriend came back to put more stuff in the unit a few weeks later, there was a dead mouse in one of the traps despite us having no food in the unit. When he showed the people at iStorage, they offered no help and even told him to take the mouse out to a dumpster out somewhere behind the building himself. When we got our furniture out of the unit we had to air it out because our couch smelled like mouse droppings. IStorage is a great place if you're okay with paying 600$ for the opportunity to dispose of a dead mouse with your bare hands. read more

BOYCOTT THESE NOISE POLLUTERS! They have a very high pitched beeping door alarm that goes off thirty to fifty times a day (every time a car leaves). I live 250 yards from this place. Inside my apartment, with the windows closed and my air conditioner and tv running, I can still hear every last beep. Some of my neighbors have actually MOVED OUT, citing this alarm as the reason. We have spoken to the storage facility's owners (or managers) and they told us a BUNCH OF LIES! They said it never goes off after 10pm, but it routinely goes off at 2, 4, and 5 in the morning. They also said the alarm had been there only a few months, but my neighbors tell me it's been going on for YEARS. They said they'd see what they could do about it, which turned out to be nothing. Sometimes, like today, the door gets stuck open and the alarm goes for hours until the police finally come. Today a truck broke down in the doorway and the alarm went off nonstop from 3:15 to 4:30pm. When I called, they said they were aware of the situation but unable to turn off the alarm. There are SCORES of storage facilities in Boston, so please do the people who live nearby a favor: STORE YOUR STUFF ELSEWHERE! Also, I do not know from personal experience, but I've heard they're quite expensive as well. If you live in this neighborhood and are bothered by the incessant noise, please add a one star review of your own and call the mayor's hotline at 617-635-4500 and make your voice heard...or at least walk by and give them the finger. iStorage: Avoid this company like the plague. AVOID ALL THEIR LOCATIONS since it's corporate that is so terrible. They will lure you into renting strorage space with a competitive price and then jack up the monthly rates once you're in there. A year ago I rented a space from them for $178/month. They've raised my rates three times in the past year and currently I'm paying $278/month. That is a 64% increase in a very short amount of time. Totally unacceptable. Literally the worst-run business I have ever seen. I should have fled from the beginning. Aside from the access code they gave me not working, getting trapped in the building by the automatic doors (and no one answering their phone to get me out), or the lack of signage to navigate the maze of storage spaces, I have no idea why I was dumb enough to leave my furniture at Simply Self Storage. Why I thought checking out of this place would be any easier, I have no idea. They charged me for an additional month after I'd left, never returned phone calls, and after my 3rd call to them over several weeks, they admitted that I was still on track to be billed again for another month. With management this inept, buyer beware. Worse, with communication this poor, and a stipulation in their home-brew legal contract that they can sell your stuff for any failure to pay... the risk to ever rent here is overwhelming. I recently used them for a short (six week) storage need and they were very willing to work with me to ensure that our goods were stored safely. I have been a customer with this location for over 5 years and have to say that this location is run by some dedicated folks who care about their tenants. Customer service is unreal the staff go above and beyond with communication and really work to make sure we have the proper needs and the right space. Managers and front desk staff are really knowledgeable of the grounds and are very friendly. The Facility is really secure with double gates, so there is never any issue of security. Climate controlled and clean grounds has kept me a tenant for 5 years and will continue to use them in the future. HIGHLY recommend! read more

I'm not sure why Nate's experience was so bad, but I had a very different experience with SSS today. That said, I think that it is possible that they have had some changes in the recent weeks because the staff they brought is was all at this location for under 3 weeks. Cherie, the new property manager, was energetic and extremely helpful. She showed me the units, made suggestions, and even negotiated the web price and prorated rent for the month. All paperwork was simple to complete and my renter's insurance was accepted to waiver out of their policy. I also found out that the property managers are given an apartment on premises - talk about accountability. Cherie went over all of the ways to get ahold of her and explicitly reviewed all paperwork, policies, and even walked on a test drive to make sure that I could get into the facility, navigate to my unit, and had no issues. I've rented units here probably 12 times for different promotions I've worked over the years. This is my favorite storage unit by far. I was actually compelled to write a review because I was looking up their phone number and I saw the yelp stars and I was like, HOW do they not have a higher rating?? First, a disclaimer - I've never personally paid for a unit here, nor anywhere else, so in terms of pricing, I'm really not sure how they compare. However, I do remember when I had to rent a unit just for a month a couple of years ago and the manager said he would give it to me free, with just admin fees! I was amazed. Now, the important stuff. It's CLEAN, which is huge to me, because currently I have another unit in South Boston that's disgusting. It's dark, dirty, full of bugs, and just generally pretty gross to visit. SSS is really clean and well maintained. It's really big and allows cars to drive in, which is a huge help and such a step up from when I rented from the yellow brick self storage or whatever it's called down the street on Harvard Ave and it was impossible to even park, much less get items from the unit into your car. And finally everyone that works there is incredibly helpful and nice. I've had a number of issues and the staff have never let me down or left me to my own devices. AND it's 24 hour gate access which is a lifesaver when you run promotions that end at 11pm at night. I don't know how passionate one can feel about a storage unit but if I could, I'd go here forever. read more

Chelmsford MA iStorage - We have rented a 10x30 storage since mid September 2020. We were charged $329/monthly since that time. We received a notice on 12/28/20 that the rate is increasing $46/monthly "to keep up with rising costs..." We rent a basic unheated garage space. I contacted iStorage to ask about the increase and was told we could move the contents to THE EXACT SAME SIZE SPACE for a decreased rate. This is deceptive and a ridiculous proposition to back the consumer into a corner that is impossible to move out of. The rates are controlled by iStorage corporate. I contacted the Regional person (can only do this via the local manager) and he/Barry decreased the rate by a few dollars. The local manager is a very good person, but makes no decisions. I find this practice deceptive for receiving no improvement/change in storage space or service. Unheated basic garage space, that's it - looking forward to getting out of this place based on this underhanded move by iStorage. read more

I have been a customer with Simply Storage for over 5 years. My rate goes up every year. It's like I'm being punished for being a longterm customer. So don't count on the pricing you get when you sign up, because it will just keep going up. I pay well over what new customers pay for the same size unit I have. As someone who owns and operates a moving company--Rocket Science Moving--I have volumes of experience with storage facilities all over the country. Simply Self Storage is, quite simply, the best facility I've encountered in all the years I've worked in the industry. I find the monthly rates to be quite reasonable, so reasonable in fact that I've been renting five+ rooms there for years. The drive-thru, interior bay is by far SSS's best unique feature: it's accessible with the same dedicated punch code you use to open the exterior gate, it's large enough to fit both trucks and cars at the same time, you can directly access the bathrooms and the storage rooms from there, and obviously, it provides cover during inclement weather. I've not seen this feature at any other storage facility. Last but by no means least, the manager Mike is friendly and accommodating, and I've developed a great working relationship with him over the years. Simply Self Storage has played an integral role in the success of my business and I don't hesitate to recommend them with five stars. read more
