So first...I haven't eaten here. But my husband and his friend had dinner at Italia on Sunday evening. My husband said the food was very good (his shrimp were cooked perfectly) and the service was excellent. He didn't mention it but I'm guessing he also tried some wine. Which leads to the reason that I'm writing this very long review. After a great meal (and probably a few glasses of wine) my husband ended up leaving his work phone on the table and didn't realize it until the next day. Monday morning when he went to start working he noticed. The text messages from his laptop started and resulted in me calling the restaurant (from many states away) for him. And lucky for him, one of the owners (Dianne) was picking up calls. She wasn't at the restaurant, but called the other owner, as well as a number of staff who were working the previous night. The phone was safely stashed in the safe and Dianne arranged to have the phone left where my husband could pick it up. She went so far out of her way to help us out. If this is any indication of the type of service this restaurant provides, then my husband's rating of "excellent" is an understatement. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Florida just so I can eat at Italia and thank the owners in person. Thank you Dianne! read more

This is a great local Italian Restaurant right on the main street in Punta Gorda. The food is outstanding whether you eat there or take it home. Tonight I stopped for a drink that had been on there FB page, a Moscow Mule, and it wa served by the lovely and gracious Kenzie. I am always made to feel welcome even though I am a woman dining alone. Kenzie and Adam work well together and greet and serve everyone the same, as if we were returning friends. The prices are very reasonable whether you are just having a drink or having dinner. The service at the bar and in the restaurant is fast but you are never hurried. Give this establishment or it's sister restaurant, River City Grill, a try because you won't be disappointed! read more

It's very difficult to find a top-quality restaurant who also happens to be very skilled at providing gluten-free options. The dining experience was really enhanced by their knowledge of food allergies and for once my daughter did not have to struggle to find something to eat on the menu. We took my daughter to Italia last night for her birthday. The food was wonderful as always and we had the best server we have ever had at any restaurant in Punta Gorda. Angie! She was awesome and made our visit perfect. Angie made sure we had everything we wanted and had great recommendations. Summary: go for the food and the service and bring dark sunglasses. That Ferrari decor really works a hardship on the eyes after a while! Room: Wow, all Ferrari red, white, and black. Very striking. Again, and again. I got used to it after a while, but one thing I really didn't like is that the bar you pass through on entering allows smoking. Second hand cigarette smoke on your way into the dining room is not an appetizing thing. Service: We had a very nice and energetic young server who was running from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The kitchen had a few big tables to deal with and it delayed things, so she kept coming over to check in, refill water and wine glasses , and other things to let us know we hadn't been forgotten. Kudos to Rachel. Food: We ordered the mussels and sausage, which was delicious and required roughly 6 slices of bread to sop up all the special sauce in the bowl. We also ordered the eggplant parm on the recommendation of our server and it was fantastic. It was sliced thinly and breaded so lightly you could easily see through the breading; it was also fried lightly so that it retained some of its structure and was crispy around the edges. I don't often see eggplant parm done this well. We also ordered a bottle of California wine our server recommended that was really good and matched both dishes well. At $40 it was in the middle of the pack for bottles they offered, and I think the retail on it was $22, so not an excessive markup. Value: Given the quality of the service and food, I thought it was a pretty good value. There are a number of dishes under $20 and the quality was very good. If they could do something about the big splashes of red in the dining room and move the smokers to the bar next door, I'd give it 5 stars. read more

Went there had a great special $35 for two dinners and a bottle of wine. The spaghetti carbonara and the chicken Parmesan were both outstanding. Another special was a slow cooked beef on risotto wonderful soon to be added to the new menu. But the true highlight of the night was our server Angie, she was tremendous! Carbonara is a dish best left to the professionals which is why you rarely see it on menu. Italia has carbonara on menu. The pasta has a toothsome bite and they use crispy cubes of hand cut pancetta. The egg creates a velvet sauce that coddles the peas. The cheese is not overwhelming. An altogether sublime dish. The humble eggplant parmigiana is rustic, with crispy edges and a rich tomato sauce that has a light sweetness that compliments the salty cheese and al dente spaghetti. Cannoli is filled immediately before serving and is fresh, not soggy. The house wine is a solid choice. During one of the music events at Laishley Park we walked over for a pizza and ate it sitting on a park bench nearby listening to the live music. The pizza was much more memorable than the music! Noone came to our table for well over 10 minutes so i asked the manager for our server. She came over and took our drink order. The drinks weren't anything special, the pizza my husband ordered was a decent size, but my spaghetti portion was small. The bead size was literally the size of my palm & is fit for hobbits. Italia is actually part of River City Grill with separate dining and kitchen. There's a large open door between the two spots and they share ownership and I'm sure many other aspects of the businesses. The food was just fantastic! We both had seafood cod for me and salmon for my wife. Both dishes were perfect, my cod dish was incredibly imaginative using clams, sausage and beans to perfection. It was a Saturday night and the place was packed, reservations a must and a noise level which was over the top. The noise level is the reason for four rather than five stars. read more

Went here on Thursday evening about 9:00 PM. Ate al fresco on a beautiful evening. The waitress was prompt, polite and efficient. Not very friendly but I appreciate that we came 30 minutes before closing and she might have thought she'd be done early. I had the seafood and pasta marinara and my girlfriend had seafood scampi. The salads were fresh and crispy and the dressing was flavorful. The house wines were good. My marinara was rich and the pasta al dente but there was not enough seafood for my taste. My girlfriend enjoyed her scampi but if it wasn't for a second basket of bread, we both might have left hungry. I would rate the service as average, the food slightly above average and the location very good. read more

To be honest it was just "OK." I had the pork shoulder and others had pasta dishes. It seemed like everyone enjoyed their meal. My meal was fine. What was disappointing was we felt rushed from the minute we sat down until the moment we paid our checks. The wait-person rushed us to order, rushed us to finish and then rushed us out. We had a Saturday night early reservation and it was obvious they wanted to hustle us in and out to turn over the table. The prices were reasonable, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. We enjoy eating here because of the gluten free options, the fact our kids like it, and the staff who work hard to please. I wish there were a few more vegetarian gluten free options, but they do have a portobello mushroom dish and meat can be left off some of the other dishes and still be ok. Went to Italia in Punta Gorda tonight. Had low expectations since we were advised that it might be mediocre. It's not. We had one of the better meals we've had recently. This month they are running a "gift" special, basically a BOGO if you also order a beverage. I had the veal and sausage ragu. It is veal shoulder and sausage with mushrooms in a cream sauce over papparadelle. It served with a salad and plenty of meat, excellent. My wife had the lasagna "roll-up". Basically like lasagna, but the meat is from short ribs. What a great wrinkle on ground beef. Really punches up the flavor. We had good service and we both feel we will be back. read more

Had a reservation at 6pm on Saturday. Arrived on time. Several people waiting for tables on a waiting list. Luckily for us the hostess trumped a trainee and told her she had to take off the reservation list before the wait list. Server was good and attentive. Ordered calamari which was sauteed in a flavorful light sauce with spinach and tomatoes. I had the Amalfi Veal and my wife had the garlic shrimp in linguini. The veal was excellent and my wife's dish had several monster size shrimp in a light lemon garlic sauce. The very much enjoyed hers. Each entree came with a salad. Ordered a Tiramisu to go for later. Opened the box when I got home and was disappointed to find a tiny piece in the box! We each got three small bites. Pricey tiny piece but very tasty. This was by far deserving of 5 stars. Everything from start to finish was amazing. Our server was sweet, Thank you Alisha. The bread and oil dip was very good and served warm. The salad was fresh crisp and perfect with the house dressing. I ordered the chicken parm and I ate almost all of it. Sauce was delicious and the chicken moist. What a disappointing Thursday dinner, from wilted salad, to the bad attitude of our server who informed us bread was only available when the salad was served. Server was more interested in hanging out in the kitchen area, restaurant was barely half full so it wasn't a question of being busy. Our waitress, Rachel, couldn't have been more pleasant or efficient. We ordered wine and she ran off to place the order before happy hour prices were over at 6:00pm. Our food was hot and delicious.
