I've eaten here a lot. This is the coolest place in Indio. The vibe is sexy, the food is top notch, and the service is unbeatable, especially if you sit at the bar. My favorite dish is the ravioli with mushrooms and taleggio cheese. It's decadent. You'll need to make a reservation to get in most of the time. The owner Roman is a dreamboat who will take good care of you. I saw some negative comments that don't make sense unless you're just a hater. After learning about Italica, we were excited to try a new Italian restaurant in Indio...And with a speakeasy vibe. The restaurant is small and intimate and visually captivating. Once seated, our party of four found it very hard to hear as it is very noisy with any lack of sound masking system, It is all hard surfaces (tables, floor, walls etc) and sounds reverberate. The HVAC system also was ever present- it would come on and blow and in some areas of seating you will be uncomfortably chilly. Roman, the owner, was unwilling to make any adjustments for the comfort of his patrons. Now on to drinks, dinner and service. Laura, one of the two servers working the room, was very pleasant.She suggested we share everything as the portions are generous. We ordered 4 signature cocktails to kick off the evening and it took 25 minutes for them to come to the table. For starters we ordered the Calamari and Carpaccio for the table. The calamari was heavily breaded and fried. Nothing delicate here. Salads were Italica and the Cesare. Save your money. Nothing special. You can make a better caesar at home. And for the Italica, again...now on to the heart of the meal Bolognese, Nona's Alici, Puttanesca, Pasta al Limone, Milanese..and blistered zucchini...The bolognese was the winner, the Milanese was dried out and again fried like Kentucky Fried Chicken. Nona's dish was okay. You have to like the strong fish smell. The blistered zucchini with diavola sauce was over the top spicy. So spicy that the taste overpowered the enjoyment of the pasta dish I had. Lesson learned. The four of us love spice yet this sauce was over the top hot. The pasta was lovely and done perfectly. To wrap it up... what I missed in the food experience was "love" there wasn't any dish made with heart. Nothing special about the food experience "to surprise and delight." read more

The atmosphere was smooth and sophisticated. We went for just a drink at the bar, we go a flower and Wood and an espresso martini. Both drinks were delicious. The flower and wood had a fun smoker on top as it was served! Service was ok, the bartenders were nice but never asked if we wanted another drink. My dad was craving an authentic Italian meal for his birthday - having had homemade Italian dishes his entire life, he can be quite picky, but Italica did not disappoint! Shannon provided excellent and prompt service, giving us some great recommendations. We enjoyed the calamari and carpaccio for the table. Between the four of us, we had pasta al limone, rigatoni, and filet mignon. All dishes were delicious and perfectly cooked with incredible flavors. Great vibe although quite loud when the small room is full with patrons and the music elevated. My Pasta Al Limone was very tasty but I should have added shrimp. My wife's branzino was presented whole and was sent back to be filleted and deboned. If I could give this place a zero star I would. They were late in sitting our party even though we made reservations through opentable. When we arrived the owner and waiter were not welcoming. We were seated at 7 pm, our reservation was at 6:30. We ordered promptly and our food arrived at 8 pm and it was cold. Our waiter passively accused us of leaving without paying our bill. We accidentally stumbled across Italica in a local article and, after reading reviews, decided that the 45 minute drive south may be worth the effort to try this place. We were not disappointed. The vibe - from the subtle entrance (we walked past twice!) to the elegant and cozy interior - this place could be on Melrose in LA. Our entire experience was A+ - from our server (Manny) who was professional, cheerful and helpful in selecting courses - to the high quality courses. We especially loved the artichoke appetizer and the penne a la vodka (the sauce was spectacular). And the tiramisu was fresh and flavorful - definitely recommended. There is no sign out front, so just look for a metal door that brings you into the "speakeasy". The artichoke appetizer was fantastic. The tomato with a burrata was good too. My Branzino was excellent and I recommend you have it deboned in the kitchen and then brought out to you. The lemon pasta I tasted was okay, if you have plain taste, which a lot of people do, and I thought there could have been more of it considering pasta is cheap. Fantastic conversation with the bartender who I am very sorry, I don't remember her name. We were seated as soon as our friends arrived and given time to finish our drinks and peruse the menu. We ordered the Artichoke for the table and it was to die for! Enjoyed by all! We ordered the Italic salad, the Polpette and the mushroom raviol, the Penne alla Vodka and the Pork Mosaici. Everything was outstanding. The ravioli were decadent! The meatballs so tender with little bites of some kind of flavored fried bread. On a dark desert highway, lol. My husband and I had been staying in a resort and needed a change of scenery as well as better food. We took to Yelp and were directed to this restaurant. At first we were confused because of the noisy bar we almost went in to, but backing out my husband tried a silver unmarked metal door next to the bar. He nervously opened it (thank goodness) and we walked in to an oasis right out of heaven. We heard beautiful standards playing softly and old world photos of a time when the desert held the air of Hollywood royalty. Even though we had not dressed for such a restaurant, they treated us warmly and we sat at the bar to receive some of the best treatment ever. Our Bartenders Even, Lara, and Dominic all where so wonderful. Lovely attentive people that made us feel right at home. The decor and ambiance was such an incredible delight to two very tired people in search of good food. So how was the food you ask? Absolutely incredible, every bite. From the zucchini, to the pork chops, and everything in between. This is a gem. If you miss this you will be so sorry. We will make it a regular haunt every time we come in to town. However I will most definitely dress more accordingly. They never for a moment made us feel uncomfortable about this. What a beautiful well thought out restaurant with absolutely epic staff. It was nice. Does the value exceed the cost? Well, a good deal is a state of mind. $17 for a mock tail seems like a lot. Yeah, it tasted good, the Bellini. But nine to $12 would've made more sense. The Hamachi Crudo, not good. $22 mistake. Fish was fishy, and tough. I should've mentioned it to the waiter, but I didn't. My girlfriend's Bolognese was fantastic. I had the Milanese chicken , which was wonderful. The tiramisu had wonderful texture, but lacked punch needed more Kahlúa. The cannolis were terrible. The shelves were weird, not proper cannoli shells, and the inside was like whipped cream. I would not order them again. The appetizer Difusione was decent. The Gorgonzola cheese was the best dip for this. Would I go back to Italica? That's a tough call. I would probably give them another try. read more
