Great sandwiches! The breads (roll& ciabatta) &bagels are fresh, though bagels are smaller than standard NYC bagels. Roast beef, chicken cutlet was just right, not too salty, or bland or dry. Bit of a wait for our lunch order of 3 sandwiches, but worth it. Took that time to peruse their many varieties of snacks & souvenirs. Will have to try the pretty pastries at next visit. First off - great chocolate chip cookies. They aren't the fanciest but they are one of my bakery yard-sticks. Second, the coffee was hot, fresh and a nice roast. I stopped in with my girls after a short stop in Ithaca when driving through. The spot is spacious with a lot of tough choices. I had the Ryan's favorite Breakfast sandwich and it was well prepared and really big - it might cover breakfast and lunch. My kids went with a bagel and while they weren't keen on sharing I had a quick bite and it was good. The staff was a bit disorganized though we were there at the Lunch rush, but it did feel like maybe some of the staff was just starting. I appreciated after some walking around in the warm weather that they had cold beers in the cooler, and a good selection of local brews at that. To round it out we had an Oreo chocolate mouse cake dessert from the bakery cake and it was very good and there were many other things I wanted to try. I really, really liked this place! If I lived in Ithaca, I imagine I might come here a lot. So many yummy sounding menu items, I'd never get bored. And they had a fresh looking salad bar, soups, two cases chock full of treats, and fresh baked bread! I had a hard time choosing what to order, but felt like a hot sandwich, so I chose the Parisian Panini. It did not disappoint; it tasted really good and was a satisfying lunch. The 3-fruit chutney was light and its sweetness complemented the Brie, spinach and turkey nicely. My teenage son ordered the West Willow BBQ & gobbled it all down in a hot minute. He topped off his meal with a key lime bar, which he really liked. I tasted it and thought it was a little gelatinous (thick solid texture vs. light) for my taste, so I gave him the rest of my half. Their other bakery items looked good, so I'd probably choose something chocolate-y next time. If I'd enjoyed the "treat" part of the meal more, I'd have bumped up to a five-star. Ordered online, and came to pick it up 30 min later at the assigned time. Had to wait an ADDITIONAL 45 min for our food to be ready (a croissant with avocado and a veggie burger). Ithaca bakery is extremely disorganized, they have a lot of employees but this doesn't seem to help. I was hoping after the total 1.15 hr wait, that the food would at least be a redeeming quality, but that was not the case. This one suffered from the disappointment of being so long built up in my memory. I visited my cousin here four years ago and remember it being the best thing ever with walls full of sandwich choices written out on chalkboards. Coming back it seemed just another sandwich shop. The options were hard to read and the many different lines, depending on what you were ordering, confusing. The staff I interacted with assumed I would automatically know their options and how things work. (No, I don't know that Cayuga cocoa means you put coffee in it.) When they came to drop off my bagel they tried to take my number without waiting for my drink to be delivered, and I had to catch them on it. I feel like the service was unfortunately sub-par, like the food. I wanted to love this, but the scrambled eggs advertised on the menu were microwaved circles with no flavoring. U walk in and there is a dude playing live music, the pastries are CRAZY cheap ($14 for 6 items!!!), and there's even a kid corner near the back with little people chairs, toys, books, a chalk board and "time out" bench. Came here after a hike and our friends said they come here a lot when they visit Ithaca. Their tomato soup was so good! It was my favorite! We also got some cookies to go after lunch and they were amazing! Very large cookies so we shared and couldn't finish it all in one sitting. Large coffee, espresso, latte selection. Large bakery section from cakes to small cookies. They had a sample of their carrot cake out and it was gone in like 5 min. My only complaint was that their sandwich could of had more meat. My pet peeve is the bread sticking out and meat only in the middle of sub roll. Not sure if that's how it always comes or they were rushing to make ours. The food here is great. Some of the sandwiches could use some tweaking to add texture but the flavor profiles are on point. While they are taking COVID seriously by having barriers up around the registers, it's a confusing place to navigate when wanting to order and pickup your food. They need better signage. Also they don't appear to be operating at half capacity nor blocking tables to ensure customers aren't to close. There also isn't anyone visibly cleaning tables after customers leave. read more

Enjoyed a quality lunch with my wife, but there were several things lacking. While my lunch sandwich was very tasty. It was chicken cutlet with red peppers and more, it took over 20 mins to come out. If it was a nice sit down place with full wait staff service I might not have minded, but to sit waiting for that long for a sub seemed too long. We came in early (a little after 11am) and expected to beat the lunch rush but it was extremely busy. The other gripe is that they don't prepare fresh salads. My wife was disappointed in this, but did get a pre-made salad which was ok. Lastly, while the quality is good, I thought it was slightly overpriced for lunch for 2 of us. We tried cinnamon rolls, glazed donuts, Mexican bagel and Ryan's favorite with a substitution of regular sausage for chicken sausage. The sandwiches were good. The donuts had a nice glaze but the cake style donut was very dry. My sons didn't like them. The cinnamon rolls were OK. Not dry but not decadent as you would expect with such a treat. We did also order two black and white cookies to go. I hope they're not dry. It's rare for my sons to not finish donuts or cinnamon rolls. The baked good missed the mark for us. It's pretty large inside with open seating and different stations and sections to get all types of food. It almost feels like a cafeteria, but in a really great way - don't let that deter you. There are different ordering sections along the back wall for breakfast, lunch, and drinks. They even have beer on tap! And in the middle, there's a buffet, along with some shelves of baked goods and other snacks. The people are extremely friendly and navigating through the place was easier than expected. We both got a cold brew, which is delicious. We also split two breakfast sandwiches - an egg & cheese on a croissant (the eggs Melissa) and the soho croissant (veggie cream cheese, tomato, and mushroom on a croissant). The egg & cheese reminded me of the one at Dunkin', but I love it, so it definitely hit the spot. The other sandwich was super tasty and they didn't overpack it. A friend had hers on gluten free bread and said it was the freshest, best tasting gluten free bread she had ever had. Two thumbs up! I had wanted something with my sandwich but the salad bar was fairly meager and the pre-made salad type deli items did not appear to be very fresh. Not sure why. I remember being so impressed last time I was here for lunch. So I grabbed some kettle chips and a nice draft on tap and sat outside. Got the spot. Honestly.... not sure what the hype is with these breakfast sandwiches. The eggs taste like rubber and my sandwich came out cold... which would make sense if it was a cold sammy. The only redeeming qualities of this sandwich was the bacon. The "jalapeño cream cheese" was literally some pickled jalapeños thrown into cream cheese. I'm sure their deli sandwiches are much better. I used to come here all the time when I lived in Ithaca. The breakfast sandwiches are great - but the eggs are definitely microwaved. Aside from that, I usually get the Sunshine which has avocado and it's on a bagel. I love their bagels. They're a decent size (I hate super large bagels) so you can hold it in your hand. And they give plenty of avocado. The coffee is always good, and I love their little coffee station nearby. I've been to Ithaca bakery 3-4 times in the last 2-3 years, while my child has been attending college in town. Ithaca bakery is also old by the people/company that own College Town Bagels (CTB). Invariably CTB is always great. Fast, courteous, accurate service. Dichotomously, Ithaca Bakery is always a mess. They frequently miss items ordered, give you the wrong item, yesterday they completely fouled up our bagel order, wrong coffee, and so on and so forth, and of course when I went back to get my orders corrected, the cashier was snippy/had a confrontational attitude. While the quality of the food is good, just as it is over at CTB, the staff or whatever that causes the issues at this location, there's always an issue. Save yourself the headache and aggravation of going to Ithaca bakery, and go to CTB. read more

Honestly, Ithaca Bakery was kind of disappointing. Perhaps it was the overhyped reviews that did it for me. Also, I rarely trust places with an overly extensive menu. I ordered J's Meal, a breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs, portabella mushrooms, and goat cheese, among other things. I'm super disappointed that the eggs seemed like they were from a carton - the easy pour, already whisked, milk carton eggs. Also, has the cook heard of salt? Nothing was salted! A huge nono, according to the judges of Chopped. There was too much goat cheese in my opinion. Or maybe it was the lack of salt that made the goat cheese seem too overpowering. We also got a pizza bagel. I don't know why that was a good idea at first. It's something I can make at home. It's something Bagel Bites does pretty darn well already. Prices are too high for what I'd typically order, and every item has nickel and dime upcharges, so I end up paying $14 for a tiny little (fake?)
