The couple who run it are really nice and the food is so good! They have a different soup every day and the sandwiches are packed with meat like you'd make them at home. You get a ton of food for the price, really good value. The scenery is really eclectic and I love it. They have several small tables, an outdoor patio, and you wait for your to-go orders on an old church pew. The orders go from the cashier to the kitchen via some kind of zipline contraption and this place even has a bike rack. The only problems you could have is that the drive thru window is really awkwardly tall and you may not be able to reach it if your car is very low to the ground. The owner (male) has an attitude. I asked for a small sample to try the gumbo. He said "we don't do samples" a little rudely. I then asked if he guaranteed his Gumbo as I am from South Louisiana and am slightly critical about Gumbo as my wife is one of the best Cajun cooks I know. He responded with "I guarantee my gumbo but not your taste buds". It was off putting. I tried my friends gumbo before either of used our spoons. It was not good. We both thought that it was like chicken sausage soup. It also had a tomato taste which is a mortal Gumbo sin. I had the potato soup, which was good. The sandwiches were also very good. Nice fresh take on ordinary menu items. The owners wife was very nice. Overall I would eat here again but would try to avoid Mr Attitude. I would never ask for a sample of anything from this place. I would give the sandwich quality more than 3 stars but the owners response to my initial request lowered the overall score. read more

I'm not sure why The Boathouse sandwich gets such high praise. Do the customers not have a palate? It was an ok sandwich, and not something I'd probably order again. The chicken salad, if that's what you want to call it, was bland and fairly dry. It's no chicken salad that I've ever seen before. Looks/tastes like one of the canned Libby's chickens shredded up? The $8 price tag was fair since it came with chips and a pickle. Service was friendly and quick, but I can see that they could fall behind easily during a rush. 3 stars for the price and service only. I would give them another try eventually, but not for a sandwich that has "chicken salad" on it. read more

Sub par at best. Boiled can chicken, no flavor, and very slow service. I understand that the chicken salad is actually not a popular item, and I clearly see why. I would never waste another $9 on a person just putting can chicken and calling it chicken salad. read more

Our granddaughter recommended the place, and we're glad she has such good taste. Had a Cuban the first time we went, and it was good. BUT! We had the Shiner Dog for lunch today and loved it! The sandwich I ate had (according to the menu) jalapeño (3 rings), Swiss (one half of one slice!), spinach (3 leaves), green onion (never saw it), avocado (lots of this!) and mayo (little bitty smear). I wondered how they would put all the ingredients on one sandwich, and this is how - very little of any ingredient. I never got to actually eat there thanks to the guy who was taking orders the day my husband and I went in the first time for lunch. I read the menu while we waited to order and was looking forward to trying several tempting selections listed. I asked the guy taking orders how they made their chicken salad and was told it was a secret. I told him I just really wanted to know if it had grapes and pecans or if it was made with pineapple, etc. He still wouldn't answer and proceeded to tell me if I had such "an attitude" that I should probably order something else. I couldn't believe that someone with absolutely no people skills would be put on the front counter to take orders let alone be allowed to have any contact with the customers. Not only was he apparently ignorant of the whole customer service concept, he was arrogant, combative, a little bit psycho and plain old fashioned RUDE! Now if he had had the intelligence to simply answer my question, or better yet offer me a sample spoonful, he would have had 2 new happy customers instead of 2 unhappy non-customers who take every opportunity to tell others about this extremely negative experience. I told him that I wouldn't be ordering anything that day or any other day and we walked out. Bottom line for me is that could be the last food establishment on the planet and I wouldn't set foot in the place. I see the other reviews are positive so maybe he was fired or at least taken off the front counter. Good luck to the rest of you. read more

First time here, but my daughter is a regular customer, cause she's from Longview, but with me living in the ghost town of Daingerfield I don't get to be a regular. But anyways on with the review. I had the March Madness the largest best tasting avocado with a large portion of chicken salad on top! I ate half in house and just got though eating the other half in my house (in ghost town). Really good. I do have one complaint the small area of the restaurant was not ventilated so it was a little unpleasant and slightly smoky smelling, and burnt my eyes and throat. The owners are super friendly, and for those who frequent the place, they make it a point to remember your name.
