I spent a couple weeks gathering all the components I've been eyeing and made the pilgrimage down to Micro Center (in Tustin) to take advantage of a great MOBO/Proc/RAM bundle. The last time I built a PC was in 2008 and at this point in my life, I just wanted an expert to help me get everything running and optimized. Gar was that expert. This guy knows his stuff and I couldn't be happier with my (first) experience at Helix. He runs the shop by himself and is clearly a lifelong PC enthusiast. I dropped off my PC at 10 AM and he had it completely diagnosed and fixed by 3:30 PM - same day service when most shops would have kept it for days. But what really impressed me was how Garnik actually took the time to explain everything instead of just doing the work and handing it back. He didn't just slap on new thermal paste and call it done. He properly reapplied the paste, then noticed my fan configuration was all wrong and moved everything to the correct CPU pump headers and fan headers. He walked me through exactly what was causing the thermal problems and how he fixed them, then stress tested the whole system right in front of me so I could see it was running properly. Garnik was super knowledgeable, friendly, and got everything done way faster than I expected. It's honestly rare to find someone who knows their stuff this well and actually takes the time to make sure you understand what's going on with your build. I brought in my Brother printer which was not reading the ink that I had bought. It was official…read moreink from Amazon, but I kept getting an error message. Finally, I decided to take it in. They charged me $45 to look at it. When I got it back, they charged $95 for labor. What did they do? They ordered new ink, and wiped down the inside. Overall I paid $130+ for him to buy new ink, wipe down the back, and put it in. An honest local, repair business (I had one nearby when I lived in Woodland Hills), wouldn't bilk you for every penny. They'd tell you what the problem was, and do the right thing when charging for the actual labor/effort so that you'd want to go back. This business did the exact opposite. They also promised me an invoice which was never presented to me or sent to me. They knew exactly what they were doing, which is why it felt so awkward when I went to pick it up. I know times are tough. And they were never rude to me. But this is no way to run a business. I live nearby but I will never do business with them. I am a teacher, who immediately got an office job for the summer, lacking in time and money (operating hours are tough here too) and they were laughing their way to the bank with me. Literally. The guy laughed on the phone when I told him I'd come in to pick it up. They kept suggesting "send the old ink back" as if to suggest this could offset the EXTREMELY HIGH LABOR COSTS they were charging me. Again, not a way to treat customers (nor could I sent it back, it's literally open ink cartridges from weeks ago). Very dishonest. DO NOT go here.

I have read the one star reviews (which are very few compared to his glowing reviews, btw) and I think some people just have a sense of entitlement to how they think customer service or presentation should be in places where they don't set the rules. They are probably written by the same people that question seating policies in restaurants that have been in business since before they were born. Bottom line is, Jeffrey knows his stuff and he is a character. When you are an expert in something, why waste time explaining your decades of knowledge to someone when you can just cut the fat? (He does explain, btw, but I think most people can't keep up with his knowledge) He asks direct questions because he is trying to quickly and concisely determine what is NOT the issue so he can better diagnose the solution. I wish more people talked like he does. And to anyone that criticized his office, you have probably never been in a workshop before. No frills, no BS, no reason to fluff it up just to make you feel something. It's engineering. I looked at other places nearby with flashy photographs of celebrities next to them and awards on the walls and the prices they charged...
