If I could give zero stars I would. To start i placed an order for pickup. It was ready 50 minutes past when they told me it would be ready. I ordered food for my entire family to celebrate an event. Opened the food and this massive bug flew out of the bun. I was horrified and called the restaurant - their response was to yell at me, tell me they have never seen this particular bug (what bugs do they normally see?), and tell me if I wanted to drive back to them I could show them this bug. This place was just a random find because a couple of Bensonhurst foodie friends of mine got sick of eating chinese food and we wanted to venture out. So an izakaya place was interesting and you usually only find these places in Manhattan. We wanted a place that wasn't heavy on the portions whereas we can still enjoy dessert. Taking my first step into this restaurant, lots of great things struck me. The decor - phenomenal with the art, the display of various liquors and the wordplay wall was pleasant to me and their notion to stick with the wood design (as you would typically find in any Japanese restaurant). The next big impression on me was their ramen rating in NYC as #8 currently. This is a big notion to make for any restaurant and as one who judges ramen distinctively, curiosity got the best of my noodle enthusiast noggin. Ramen is a giant dish for me and wasn't my goal for that night's light eating. That however didn't stop me from trying as my friend graciously shared portions of her miso beef broth (brewed for 8 hours) ramen. Just a few bites and I already knew everything hit the right mark - the noodle texture and softness, the broth, and aromatic warmth ramen gives you on a harsh cold day. This made me happy to know I have a quality ramen pitstop near my home and will come back for the full experience. Reasonably priced too if I may add: between the $12 to $17 range whichever way you may go. Time for the izakaya skewers analysis. We ordered around 5 skewers: the squid, shrimp, chicken, pork, and black beef. Everything was charred to perfection. Even the soft meats like shrimp and chicken was tender on the inside and retained the charcoal crisp on the outside. Squid is always a tricky meat to work with because this is a rubbery substance and it can either give your teeth an irritable exercise to chew. Thankfully even this was cooked nicely. Keep in mind izakaya is always a tapas experience and can get expensive, not for the budget constraint if you're here to fill up on food and get your money's worth. Also gave the oysters a chance because the manager came to our table to help us decide on our picks. We didn't go for the baked oysters (popular oyster dish) however went for the double oyster shots. Very vinaigrette and raw deliciousness. Every customer should try their oysters if you dine here. The takoyaki (octopus dough balls) were in fact THE BEST I've ever had. This was so crispy baked on the outside and the filling was so goopy with the octopus and kewpie mayo. My goodness the filling was a lovely Niagara filling falls from the first bite - pure perfection. Coming back for the ramen for the full experience is my primary goal the next time I visit this place. For takeout, dining in solo at the bar, or with a group of noodle enthusiasts. Izakaya Ajimi is a cash only clean establishment with friendly staff, a variety of items on the menu to choose from, fast service, and delicious food. To start off, my party of three ordered a few appetizers - Takoyaki, Japanese mixed Fries, and a Crunch Shrimp to share. The appetizers were all really delicious but the Crunch Shrimp's (although also delicious) quantity was underwhelming. The menu said $6 but did not list how many were in it. We ended up getting charged $7 ($1 extra) and there was only 2 pieces. It was a bummer because we had three people and there was not enough pieces to share :(. We then proceeded to order main courses and settled with Ajimi Deluxes and I ordered the Ajimi Mazemen as we heard these were some solid choices. The Ajimi Mazemen was a broth-less ramen composed of a sesame, parm cheese, and spicy oil base. Although there was ground pork, I added Chashu for additional protein. It tasted so rich and creamy, it was absolutely delectable but I can see how it can be a bit heavy. read more

It was great! Until 6 hours later. I got food poisoning from the mazemen ramen everyone recommended. I projectile vomited 5 times in the span of an hour and half. Then I had explosive diarrhea mostly water for another hour and a half. Then i took a shower and was laying in bed about to pass out. Had to projectile vomit 1 more time before finally falling asleep. It was not worth it. All i could taste and smell during my food poisoning episode was the mazemen ramen. My gf ate everything i did except for my mazemen ramen. She got the classic and she was fine. I cant eat here ever again. I will not be trying "new" ramen. read more

WARNING: UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO WASH DISHES THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY I came here on the suggestion of my bfs brother for a dinner with friends on a lively Wednesday night. Overwhelmed by the various ramen options and unsure of what to get, I had asked the waitress to recommend their most popular dishes, which would be the Zurutto Kuro, the Zurutto Tantan, and the Zurutto Deluxe. I gravitated towards the Kuro at first since she had seem partial to it the most but after my friend reasoned with me that the Deluxe was basically the same thing except with extra char siu and egg for only $1 more, I decided to go with its supersized cousin. It wasn't too long before all the food was brought out and we were all enjoying our meals. The black garlic oil for the Deluxe is served on the side and probably meant to be mixed in thoroughly with the broth before serving. Maybe then it wouldn't have tasted so salty to me. On the other hand, my friend who also ordered the same thing felt that it tasted quite bland even after incorporating the oil. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. The rest of my friends seemed to fancy their ramen more though, which, if iirc, were the Zurutto UWO (chicken broth + seafood base) and the Zurutto Miso. I did have one of my friend's order of takoyaki and it reminded me very much of the ones I had when I was in Japan. Once we were done with our bowls, the waiter cleared our table and surprised us with spiked lemonade on the house. It's just too bad I don't drink; I'm sure they would've been the perfect chaser to wash down the umami of the broths. Despite my personally average experience, I do plan on coming back here again someday, and perhaps this time for the broth-less Truffle Mazeman that other Yelpers seem to all agree on. As a dry ramen type of girl myself, the no soup agenda is very attractive and why it was actually my original one pick. Came here for lunch a couple of weeks ago. It was cash only which sucked because we don't normally carry cash with us. Luckily we had family live near by to rescue us or else we would have been doing the dishes. We tried the yuzu salmon which was okay. Hubby wasnt crazy about the strong yuzu taste. This review is for a combination of two visits. For the second visiWe came on a monday night with a reservation for a large party. Our table was ready for us in the back half of the restaurant which was secluded from the front half of the restaurant which we enjoyed very much. Pictured: -Ajimi mazemen was probably the best ramen here i personally tried (i tried all of the ones we ordered). The flavor was complex because of the cheese, sesame and spicy oil. The portion does look smaller because there is no soup but it is a good size. -Ajimi kuro and miso were both decent and worth a try if you like the description of the flavor profiles that is given. One thing to note is that Not pictured: -Ajimi tantan was not good at all and was a huge disappointment. The soup base had no flavor which made the whole dish not good. -The burger, which tasted average and had a sauce similar to thousand island. -Mixed fries was standard. it came with regular potato and purple yam (we did not order this but there was miscommunication and ended up getting it) -Ajimi Deluxe is basically a larger version of the ajimi kuro but has the black garlic oil on the side. If you think Ichiran lives up to its No. 1 spot, then you might not agree with me on this place. The classic and kuro ramen were amazing. The noodles had a good bite, not mushy. The classic's soup was comforting and the kuro's addition of black garlic oil was strong and nutty. It's the first time I ate all the bamboo shoots in a ramen bowl both broths were rich and flavorful. The pork belly - omg finally a place that doesn't just give slices that are 2/3 fat and 1/3 meat. I much prefer eating chashu meat over the fat belly part. The meat was so tender too. And the raw onions as a topping was a delightful accompaniment to the ramen! The double oyster shooter was my favorite!! It was so refreshing and the yuzu sauce was sour and sweet and perfect with the The beef yakitori was good. Sauce was tasty, but the beef I would say was slightly over cooked. I recommend drinking water if you're getting the ramen. We ordered a bunch of items - East coast oysters (super fresh) - west coast oysters (also super fresh) - baked oysters (these were interesting. They're not baked to the point where there's a crust. The oysters/mayo/tobiko is soupy and I was told to drink it like a soup. This was good, but you do lose the oyster in the mayo. -takoyaki (not sure if. They deep fried them but regardless they came out piping hot and there's a big chunk of octopus in there! I really enjoyed them) - deluxe ramen (my husband enjoyed it and they tasted the broth which was very chicken forward and not too salty) - uwo ramen (I enjoyed this more than the chicken broth of the deluxe because it was more complex. The noodles were wonderfully chewy with a bite. I think the egg was smoked and it was delicious. The cha siu was underwhelming though. I've been passing by this place for quite some time and decided to try it out when I realized they finally opened. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it definitely exceeded all of my expectations. The vibe of the entire restaurant and the interior design is absolutely impeccable. You can tell the owner spent a lot of time and effort into getting this right. The restaurant has an open kitchen with a bar towards the back, and upstairs is a billiards room. Not only is this a great place to stop by for food, but it's also a place to hangout. It's actually quite hard to find a restaurant of this sort in south Brooklyn. I'm glad the owner was bold enough to make this move and add diversity to cuisines in the neighborhood. Hopefully this encourages more people to open up different shops in this area as there is definitely a market for different types of food. Our party of 3 tried their black garlic ramen, mazemen, and miso ramen. All of them were exceptional especially the mazemen dry noodle with the touch of truffle flavor and Parmesan. The miso ramen had a light creamyness to it with a perfectly cooked egg and springy noodle texture. The pork was also perfectly tender with just a slight char on the outside and a good fat to meat ratio. If you want something more bold in flavor, the black garlic ramen is a must. We also tried baked oysters which was a must since there was an entire section just for coastal oysters, and the squid yakitori. Both of which were great. The owner stopped by every now and then to make sure all the food was enjoyable we had a good conversation about him opening Ajimi in Bensonhurst Brooklyn. Finally an izakaya in the neighborhood! This place just recently opened and my friend boasts about the food so much that she's been there 5 times already. I had the pleasure of trying this place out yesterday. The interior decor gives off modern vibes. The kitchen is right by the bar, which makes it feel like a real izakaya! It's so intriguing to see the chefs cook your food in the same space you're sitting. For food, my partner ordered the black garlic oil ramen. The noodle texture was really good! The garlic oil soup tasted very similiar to a black pepper steak and felt very heavy. I'm personally not a fan of black garlic oil, but the soup was packed with FLAVOR and the chefs know how to make good ramen! I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered a spicy mixed which includes an assortment of seafood (I think its shrimp, octopus, and kani mixed in spicy sauce). It was really good! It was a cold salad, mixed in a light refreshing spicy oil. I also ordered takoyaki and it was cooked to perfection. It includes a huge chunk of octopus and the takoyaki dough was so soft on the inside! For appetizers, friend and I shared the baked oysters, Japanese fries, and yakitori. The oysters were really good! I normally don't enjoy the taste of oysters but the baked sauce on top does a good job of concealing the oyster taste. The Japanese fries included potato fries and ube fries seasoned with truffle salt. The truffle salt was the cherry on top for this dish. So good! And lastly, the yakitori was grilled to perfection and it's mixed with a sweet sauce. My favorite was the octopus! I would love to return to try maybe the miso or spicy miso ramen next time. After 2 years of waiting, this place has finally opened. I've watched this place through it's construction phase and was intrigued by its custom design. I knew it was going to be something amazing as the owner has spent so much money on gutting the entire place. With its soft opening, this place definitely did not disappoint. The menu was interesting as not many places are bold enough to serve fresh east coast and west coast oyster in the neighborhood. They even have amazing finger foods like truffle purple and regular potato fries and Yakitori. This is not just your local ramen place, but it's an amazing chic hangout place where they have a bar in the back and offers the finest Japanese whiskey. Not into liquor? They serve cocktails and beer as well. Owner also mentioned that upstairs have pool tables and a nice hang out spot if we want to rent out the place or just come by to shoot a game with a few friends to grab some drinks and Yakitori. They open till 1 am every night. This is the owners 3rd ramen location, and their ramen is on point. No wonder they keep growing. The broth is lovely with such rich chicken broth. The chef is from ippudo Japan and cooked for at least 8 hours. The noodles were cooked to perfection where it was so tender. The white truffle noodles (no broth) was amazing. A ramen place right by the 18ave train stop. Delicious food for price point, phenomenal customer service and atmospheric interior. We got the deluxe ramen which had a lot of meat (the slices were thick!), flavorful broth, bamboo shoots, and a classic runny egg. The noodles were just the right texture and bounce. The portion was big! The takoyaki was decent. Nothing really impressive it seemed to lack a little flavor but the texture was good. I wish there were more condiments inside the takoyaki ball and more dressing. But overall a good treat! The squid bbq skewers were well grilled and tasted yummy. The interior of this place is super nice. There is a open style kitchen and the back has a bar. The tables and interior is decorated with wood and gives a modern traditional Japanese ramen shop in America vibes in the best way possible. Came here while craving Japanese food and was pleasantly surprised. It's CASH only right now so just an FYI. My friend and I came on a weekday, restaurant was relatively empty. We shared a variety of dishes but 2 really stood out. 1) black garlic ramen--it was so good. It is super flavorful without being overly salty. The noodles are cooked perfectly. The pork was so tender and delicious. The soft boiled egg was also perfect. Would highly recommend this if you are craving ramen! 2) Takoyaki--this also was surprisingly delicious. There's a huge chunk of octopus in each takoyaki ball and the texture was nice not overly mushy like some other places I've tried. The other dishes were ok, not terrible but not amazing. For example I had the chicken yakitori, which was good but lacked the smoky flavor. My friend and I had this tofu appetizer and the tofu skin was so sweet, it overpowered the rest of the ingredients. Been here a couple of times since their soft opening. Super friendly service both times. They have a large alcohol menu surprisingly. The space is nice, and servers are very attentive. Their ramen portions are generous, not exactly the same for appetizers. We tried a number of their appetizers, they have some creative take on things certain dishes, they have a spicy mix in place of a Kanu salad, where they mix seafood and cucumbers in chili oily rather than Mayo, they toss their edamame in garlic/chili oil. They also have a shrimp in garlic chili oil, presented nicely with a couple of pieces of toast. I tried their black garlic ramen and miso ramen. Portions are good and they definitely don't skimp on the toppings. I believe they're from the same owners of tenzan a few blocks down and zurutto in the city? A solid ramen spot with great service in the Bensonhurst area! The decor is cute and there's plenty of seating. I came with a friend and we ordered the zurutto miso ramen and the truffle mazemen and an order of fries. Both dishes were flavorful and you really can't go wrong with fries. I will admit the broth for the miso ramen came off a bit more oily and heavy than I'm used to and their chashu was really fatty but still a solid dish. Great new restaurant in the neighborhood! The place is huge with plenty of tables and a nice sized bar in the back with TV screens. If you like Japanese whiskey this is a good place to check it out. The space is super clean, looks real hip and welcoming, and the service was fast and friendly. We tried the Kuro and Miso ramens. The broth was creamy and not too salty. The ramen noodles were bouncy and just right to my taste. We got the edamame with spicy garlic sauce which was good, would've been better with beer but we didn't order drinks this time around. Great place for ramen in the neighborhood. Spacious and clean. Service is good. Not pushy and are friendly whether in groups or solo. I've been here an hour before closing once because it was the only place that was opened. Everyone was extremely kind and we received the same quality of service. The ramen portions are great. Solo dining is comfortable here. The staff don't look upset or flustered like other establishments when I'm dining solo. They have tables all the way towards the bar area in the back. Cool decor inside. Everything was pretty decent actually. The food was decent, not amazing, but good enough for me to think "okay okay there's something here" and no complaints about the service. I was a tad bit disappointed to see 4 tiny tiny tiny wings when I ordered the Spicy wings appetizer (around $6 i think). And I was also ecstatic when I saw the humongous bowl of ramen, I ordered the Ajimi Deluxe, but soon I realized that it's a trick bowl and there's a dome in the center of it. But I did really like the texture of the ramen, it was just right, flavor was good also. I am glad I stopped by and gave it a try, but I don't think it's a place where I feel like I want to keep coming back. I'm normally an udon girl, but recently I've been on a ramen binge. Izakaya Ajimi recently opened up in my area and I've been seeing all my friends go; so naturally, I had to try it out as well. The restaurant at a glance is clean, with ample seating and an open kitchen. We were promptly seated and someone took our order within 10 minutes. What we ordered - zurutto deluxe (comes with black garlic oil to pour over, chashu to die for) zurutto tantan (bf finished in 3 minutes that's how good it was) Chicken Yakikushi (seasoned and tender chicken!) 3 oysters from the east coast (fresh, not fishy, loved their sauces) chashu pork bun (2) (who doesn't love buns, this was 10/10) Everything was brought out piping hot and smelled so delicious! I loved every single bite. My boyfriend enjoyed his food as well. The waitstaff constantly came to check up on us and asked us how we liked the food (which I really appreciate). New spot popped up near by so gave it a try: Food: 3.5 stars. Presentation: 4 stars Service: 3.5 stars Best thing they got on the menu is the brothless mazemen noodle. It is yummy and flavorful. Different than most ramen and has a slight Chinese influence with the minced pork and sesame base sauce. A hint of spice to kick it up a bit. The Kuro ramen which is the one with the black garlic oil...average. Nothing special. But the charshu pork is nicely torched, good flavor. Broth is very average. Not loving the noodle at all. Miso ramen is below average. Skip! Yuzu salmon is light and refreshing. A bit more flavor would be nice. Yakitori: beef is good, not the most tender, chicken was nicely charred like the charshu pork, good flavor. Squid is tough. Sausage may be good for kids. Would skip. This place finally opened up for business after years of being shuttered. Never thought it would ever open for business, but they did...yay! Went there twice: 1st: Met a friend there to grab lunch and ordered the following: truffle mazemen [dry Ramen with spicy oil, Parmigiano cheese, truffle, ground pork and half an egg]...it was tasty, and the Parmigiano and truffle wasn't over powering to the palate; zurutto classic - my buddy had that and he liked it; pork yakitori - pork belly grilled...the slight crunch of the crispy fat is always appreciated; oysters (west coast and east coast)...it was refreshing and tasty; and sushi (salmon, tuna and yellow tail)...surprisingly fresh and good quality. 2nd: Met a friend for another go at the place: Angus burger (I know a burger at a Ramen joint...don't judge)...not a filling burger, but it was juicy and had a lot of flavor; baked oysters are not my thing and I was reminded why I don't do cooked oysters; sashimi mix...cut up salmon, tuna and yellowtail lightly seared with mixed greens; yakitori...chicken (a nice sweet glaze sauce) and pork belly (see 1st) Oh...let's not forget about the full bar in the back of the restaurant and the two pool tables upstairs for a game or two. We went on a Wednesday late night so it was mostly empty but it's nice that it's very easy to get a table. Definitely coming back! The owner is like your second mom, so cute.
