The servers remember you and your order and you start to feel like friends after a while as they always take time to stop and speak to you and make you feel welcome. Tried this spot for the first time today on 4th of July. Lol we were honestly scared because most of the "Japanese" food in Bensonhurst tends to be lacking since everything here is Chinese owned and more take-out ish or not as authentic as it could be. It was hard to convince my boyfriend to come here but he was really glad we did. The front tables can accommodate groups, but most tables on the inside are 2 seaters. They have a lot of tables regardless. We ordered baked oysters, tartar, a mazemen and a classic ramen. Everything came pretty quick, was super delicious and portions were pretty good. Mazemen was creamy, heavy, lots of flavor and spicy in a way where I didn't feel it right away but after a few bites I was like wow where did this spicy come from?! Lol Classic ramen broth was pretty savory, that full flavor that comes from boiling the chicken, bones and cartilage for a day. Yup it was all there. also came with 3 wonderfully charred slices of chashu. They were smoky and juicy. Baked oyster was creamy and so good. Like melt in your mouth good... We weren't given enough time to review the menu when seated imo but I told them we needed more time and they gave us just that. Service is quick and attentive, it seems like most people here are bothered by how frequent the waiter/waitress visits the tables and they might seem more aggressive than they actually are. 4.5 stars - 4 for the food and 5 for service! I finally had a chance to stop by Izakaya Ajimi for a quick solo lunch, and the experience did not disappoint! Upon arrival, the waiter was extremely kind and seemed to note that I might be more comfortable dining alone in one of the middle section tables rather than at the tables up front. I ordered the zurutto deluxe ($15.50) and the buns ($7 for 2 pieces). For the buns, I wasn't sure whether the chashu or kaarage might be better, but I was informed that I could get one of each. A few notes: the buns are good, but the fried chicken bun is definitely superior to the chashu bun - would definitely recommend getting 2 of the chicken instead. The chashu wasn't bad, it just paled in comparison to the chicken. The bun was also a bit soggy on the chashu one, but not offensively so. The ramen here was generously portioned - the order came with 5 pieces of chashu, 1 whole marinated egg, scallions, bamboo shoots, and onions. I tried the broth without the black garlic oil first and it was deeply flavorful and rich without being overwhelming. I've never been a huge fan of chicken broth ramens as they usually lack flavor, but this broth lived up to some other pork broths I've had. Adding the black garlic oil is a MUST - it adds so much depth and flavor. Noodles were good as well! My personal preference is a slightly chewier noodle, but I'm not upset with the noodles here at all. I really have to commend the wait staff here. New Japanese place that I went to try out with my family. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share and everyone got their own bowl of ramen. For appetizers, we enjoyed the baked oysters. I had the ajimi kuro ramen which has black garlic oil. I enjoyed it. It was flavorful. Also comes with a good amount of delicious cha siu. My sister ordered the same thing but asked to make it spicy and she enjoyed hers as well. My brother had the ajimi miso and I tried a spoonful of his soup and wasn't quite impressed. Overall it's a small order and only a few pieces of purple potato. I would love if they made a full order of just purple potato. The buns were okay. Nothing special. $7 for 2. Ramen was good. Average prices, ranges from $12-$15. I wouldn't say it's the best best ramen ever but it will do if I have a ramen craving. I would come back again. I was very happy to see a new ramen shop open up in the neighborhood. This place had modern interior and it's spacious enough for large groups. My friend and I ordered two appetizers, fried oysters and takoyaki. Nothing really special with the takoyaki but the fried oysters were really crispy and decently sized. We ordered the deluxe ramen and ajimi mazemen and both dishes were really good! I enjoyed the deluxe ramen more because the soup was so rich and flavorful. The meat that came with it was delicious and not overly fatty. The noodles were not over cooked and they gave generous amount. I definitely recommend the deluxe ramen. The mazemen ramen is DRY ramen and we got it because we wanted to give it a try and it was pretty good. Though the Parmesan cheese at the end was all I could really taste and the meat for this wasn't as flavorful. They have a nice variety of foods and a long list of apps to select from which I cannot wait to try everything. Best ramen spot in Bensonhurst. Used to be a regular at Umai Ramen but ever since that closed down. Needed a new ramen spot close to home. I've tried almost every ramen bowl they have and the deluxe is still the best. Their broth is deep in rich flavor and the noodles are either great or just okay. I wish that they allowed you to customize your bowl like some ramen places offer. The chasiu has lots of umami and a depth of charred flavor. Nice little gem on 18th Ave. They have a full bar and they serve their beer in a frosted cold glass mug. We also ordered two bowls of ramen, but was so hungry, we forgot to take photos. The chicken skewers and squid weren't bad, in fact well seasoned. Although I did prefer the squid over the chicken. The chashu buns... weren't that great. The dish itself was a tad messy from the sauce and the chashu pork was on the leaner side compared to other places. The baked oysters, probably isn't something I'd order again. When we read baked, one would think cheesy goodness, but it was pretty much a mayo blend. The ramen was pretty good, the chicken broth was light but we'll flavored. The chashu here was also better than the ones in the buns, as the meat to fat ratio was more even. The house sake is like any other, can't complain about it. The interior is decorated nicely with an open kitchen concept. There's plenty of room in the front and back of the restaurant for seating. They serve alcohol, ramen, and a variety of Japanese appetizers. Most of the ramen is a chicken broth base which has a very clean and hearty taste to it. Bensonhurst finally got a Ramen spot. The place is so good that I went there twice within a week. The service is good and always wonder if their service is good enough. This shows that they take people's input very seriously. The first time I went there, I ordered the Ajimi DELUXE and Takoyaki. Ajimi DELUXE - The Chicken broth not only was rich but with the onion enhanced the taste. The ramen has the right texture as you bite carries the firmness. The way the cooks charred the thick chashu pork (wow 5 of them) brings out the taste of the meat and marinate. The bamboo is soft yet hard when biting into it to make the balance. The seasoned boiled egg is something you either start or save near the end of your bowl (good thing it comes with 2), along with the scallion aiding the freshness to all ingredients together, and the best part was the black garlic oil was served on the side instead together which gave me more option to enjoy each different mix of flavors. Takoyaki - Word of caution, do not eat it right when it's served . Takoyaki is good the flavors blends well together. (Had a hard time since it was still hot) The second time I went there, I ordered Ajimi Miso, Yakikushi Chicken, and Beef. Ajimi MISO - The Chicken broth with the original miso has a good mixture it was good, little spice was added in with it making the soup have more depth (I recommend adding a little spice to enhance enjoyable the flavor). The ground pork mix brought a new taste to the broth. The corn, bean sprout, and cabbage gave the bowl great textures. The chashu, seasoned boiled egg, scallion are again so good, please read those lines about them again . Yakikushi - The beef was tender and the sauce flavor did not overpower its original taste along with the chicken, given along with the dish it served when I added the lemon juice the sauce became more in-depth making me sad that I finished it so soon (Should've ordered more). Spotted this newly opened restaurant while I was in the area and I came back to discover they just opened! Ajimi is currently doing a soft opening, discount of 20% but no idea how long this will last. Also cash only currently! The place was empty but the decor was very nice, all the food is prepared in the open kitchen at the front and there's plenty of seating when you go further into the back. The server was very friendly and came back to the table multiple times during our meal to ask about our opinions on the food for feedback to the chef, love to see that! Food-wise, it was decent. Not aware of any other ramen places in this neighborhood but this place is a great option. We got the sausage skewer and the spicy tatsuta age to start with. The sausage skewers (5/10) were a bit disappointing in presentation, it wasn't charred enough and didn't look like the photo I saw left by a different reviewer. Tasted like a hotdog, nothing special. The spicy tatsuta age (8/10) was juicy but lacking a crunch considering how it is fried. The only spicy part of this was the mayo it came with but even then it wasn't that spicy. For ramen I had the UWO ramen (7/10) and my partner had the TanTan (7/10). Never had ramen topped with onions but I didn't mind it, although there was a lot of it. Both ramen bowls had decent broth and the portion size was more than enough. The chashu pork in the UWO was very tender and flavorful but the ground pork in the TanTan was bland on its own (the broth helps). Would I come back? It was busy but not packed. Got a seat right away. It's resourceful but also weird how they put seats in the hallway, blame the store layout. Got appetizers: takoyaki, kushi - chicken and squid. They ran out of seafood. Takoyaki was ok. The octopus inside wasn't stiff. The batter was a bit tasteless. Skewers. Squid is only meant to have salt and pepper but I found the squid itself not savory and too tough. Chicken is better with sauce. It's supposedly some house BBQ sauce but it just tastes like glazed sweet soy sauce - not special. I taste the undernotes of bottled soy sauce. Reminds me a bit of dim sum chicken feet's marinate. Ramen I got kuro, the one with black garlic oil. I vaguely remember my mom saying the black garlic oil isn't special but I still wanted to try. Lol I agree it's not special. The garlic flavor is weak and doesn't enhance the broth. There's not a lot either. It's a thicker broth. My friend got Uwo, seafood broth. We both were interested in this but it was disappointing. The seafood isn't rich and sweet. My friend said it seemed fishy. I see what she's saying but it doesn't bother me, just doesn't enhance the situation. I love fried oysters and this has to be the best I've had. They use fresh east coast oysters and it tasted like it! So juicy! The fries were nice and crispy and nice soft potato on the inside. The purple potatoes were especially tasty. The ramen was so flavorful. The pork was unbelievable. A little crispy around the edges and the rest tender and delicious . This spot was clean and spacious. Keep in mind that it could get a little hot near the kitchen bar area. Our server was attentive and patient as we browsed the menu and finalized our order. He answered all of our questions and provided recommendations based on what was fresh for the day. We ordered the Sashimi Mix, raw oysters, and ramen (Ajimi Tantan and Ajimi Kuro). The Sashimi Mix had a subtle citrus-based dressing mixed with cubes of partially seared fish and greens. The citrus flavor was not overpowering and was well-balanced with the composition of fish and greens, but it would have been nice to also be provided wasabi, especially for fish that tends to be on the fishier side. The oysters were good, but we would recommend ordering based on which types are most fresh. Both ramen dishes were flavorful in their own way. Went on a whim because there are no other food places out here that look appetizing. I wanted to add broth to the one ramen bowl with no broth and they told me they couldn't do that. The chicken appetizer was pretty good, but the pieces of chicken were literally scraps and chewy. We wanted something spicy to put in our broth and asked if they had any chili oil little. Did we know that at the end when we got the check they charge you extra to get chili oil and never told us. The best thing was probably the mint lemonade, but little did they tell us each one was eight dollars, and it is not shown on the menu. Also, pretty sure they are new because they didn't have certain items on the menu. So I will not be coming back.
