My husband and I had our second date at J Alexander's in 1999. We live only a few miles away and it has always been our favorite BR restaurant. Have eaten there many many many times and always loved it. We dined there tonight and the food was as good as it always has been. However. We ordered two classes of house Pinot Grigio wine and one glass of house Chardonnay with our dinner. The wine totaled $41.00. $13 each for the Pinot Grigio and $15 for the Chardonnay. Are you serious? HOUSE wine? Alas, it will probably be a while before we return. read more

The Steak Maui ribeye has never disappointed. I always get mine medium. This is not the fanciest steakhouse but it is a nice place to go for an above average steak. I would suggest sticking with medium if you are a medium rear steak eater because the cook is likely to end up rear. Also the fries are really good! read more

Santana was the best waitress I have ever had. I came the other night with a group of friends for a birthday dinner and we haven't stopped talking about how good of an experience we had! Santana was very patient and she was so sweet! She took the time to answer all of our questions about the menu and it was evident that she was knowledgeable about the menu items! She was amazing and kept us laughing! The food was amazing but me and my friends were talking about how we would go back to J Alexander's just to have that level of service again! As a manager myself, Santana is the perfect example of how employees should interact with customers in order to build relationships and create returning customers! I used to enjoy coming here for the crab cakes, which have fallen off in quality & increased in price. I will not order crab cakes at J.Alexander's again as they must've run out of lump crabmeat in Carolina to serve in this Louisiana eatery. The Carolina Crab Cakes used to be made with lump crabmeat but now, despite the price increase, no lump crabmeat that I could find. I didn't finish the second one due to lesser quality crabmeat. I'm under the impression that the "market price" was $48 for two crab cakes, about $24 per cake + french fries, today. Got a salad which had very little dressing, should've gotten that on the side. Service is still good and efficient but when I'm in the mood for a meat-centric dinner, J. Alexander's is not my first choice. I guess I won't mind joining friends who want to go back here but I won't be leading the pack. read more

Enjoyed everything about my meal. The ribs were nice and tender, the bbq sauce was sweet with a little kick (spicey) . The loaded baked potato was nice and hot it was dressed with bacon, butter, cheese and sour cream. The broccoli was steamed and had a nice olive oil drizzle on them. The Key Lime pie was okay ( the amount I paid for that sliceof pie i could have gottena whole pie from the store that would have been better this is why I gave 4 stars). Very pleasantly surprised! This place had a great "old steak house" vibe, dim classy atmosphere. I sat at the bar for dinner and some wine. The staff was super professional and attentive. I had the house salad and the tuna filet which were both larger than expected and delicious. Convenient location near the mall. Will be back when passing through Baton Rouge to shop. read more

Recently stopped in for lunch and truly had an enjoyable experience! We had the Mexican spinach queso to start with. It came out freezing cold to be honest. Thankfully, they took it right away and got it piping hot for us. We split the Cypress salad and Old Fashioned Cheeseburger. The salad was more than able to be split between 2 people. The ingredients were all fresh and beautiful. The cheeseburger was so good! Y'all don't get it! It wasn't even super hot but it was sooo delicious. It was cooked perfectly to medium. Still juicy. The toppings were fresh too. Although some of our food choices could've been hotter, the flavor and service was absolutely excellent. I would definitely come back. Oh wow. If you've ever been to Houston's or Hillstone this menu might seem similar but their execution is amazing and they put their own twist on things. The spinach queso was delicious and the grilled artichokes were perfection. The Maui Steak was exactly what you'd want in marinated steak, great flavor and cooked perfectly. I was in town for a conference and my coworkers and I decided to come here for dinner. Dinner was EXCELLENT! We started with the chips and queso which were fresh and straight from the oven. I had the shrimp po boy which was overflowing with shrimp. I couldn't even close the sandwich (not complaining). The shrimp were lightly battered with the perfect crisp. 4.75 is my rating. I'm a super fan of the vibe here on Friday and Saturday evenings. Men take your wife here. I've eaten here a few times and they don't disappoint. The service, food and location met my expectations. I'm all in on what they offer. Thank me later sir and enjoy the moment. I wish the entrance side of the building had more parking distance between the handicap side and the non handicap side. After eating seafood for a few weeks as we traveled to Florida, we wanted red meat. We were once again late getting to our hotel, and hoped we wouldn't have a long wait. They seated us quickly, awesome! Hubby ordered the prime rib and he said it was good. Must have been because he didn't offer me a bite! I ordered the rib eye and it was delicious. I felt bad that I only ate a little over half of it. Cooked the way I asked for, medium rare. The loaded bake potatoes were wonderful as well. Prices are pretty reasonable, but we certainly wouldn't be doing this every night. Staff was super friendly, efficient, and very tentative to our experience. read more

My husband and I went to J. Alexander's for a date night this last Saturday evening and we were impressed! Our server's name was Scott and he was very attentive and polite. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer and it was fresh and delicious! We both ordered the filet for dinner and were very happy with our choice. Overall, it was a very good steak (cooked well and flavorful) and we had a great experience. We will definitely be back for another date night. Side note.. we decided to go to J. Alexander's after having their catering at a friends party. The catering was AMAZING. We were super impressed and will definitely keep them in mind for our future catering needs. Not too busy for a Sunday evening. Was quickly sat at the bar where I ordered a delicious and perfectly chilled glass of Pinot Grigio. I specifically asked for the best salad option they had on the menu and was directed to the ahi tuna salad. Wow. I consider myself a bit of a foodie and picky when it comes to salads. Dropped by last week for a lunch date and the restaurant was bustling with regular patrons who wanted fine dining with a reasonable price range. This is a great place to bring a business partner for lunch; host a office luncheon with coworkers; or just swing by for a quick delicious bite. We sat in the bar area where it was less crowded. Since I wasn't as hungry, I let my date order for us. For our appetizer, we had their popular Deviled Eggs. I loved their sugar-cured bacon bits, but was not a fan of their pickled relish. The presentation was pretty nice. We shared the Grilled Pork Tenderloin drizzled with Thai "Bang Bang" sauce, along a nice large portion of smashed potatoes. The pork tenderloin was cooked to medium perfection. The sauce wasn't anything special, but a typical Thai chili sauce bottle you can buy at the Asian store. We ordered a side of salad, in which I tried their cilantro vinaigrette and it was very good! If you're a meat and potatoes guy, or gal, then this dish is great to try. The service was spectacular as usual and I left "almost" satisfied. Why? I was too full to order dessert! Lol Next time, I'm ordering dessert first! Lol read more

We've been here a couple of times. The last visit was on a major Saturday Prom night in Baton Rouge. The restaurant was overwhelmed and service was less than expected. I didn't review that night and we decided that we would give them another shot at a less stressful time. So this was that visit. The kids like the burgers, but I ordered the Croque Madame which is grilled Gruyere, smoked ham, and an egg sunny side up. My side order was Cole slaw. The meal tasted good. A different sandwich. My wife ordered the swordfish grilled lemon butter sauce over a bed of couscous with a side order of veggies. She liked it. Service this night was much better. I had no complaints about the wait staff. The food came out in a reasonable amount of tie and was hot, just just prepared rather than waiting in a warming area. read more

Gave me a dark cloth napkin for my dark pants. Think we had 3 waiters take care of every possible need we had. Even the hostesses were sweet! FOOD: All I can say is WOW! I had the Steak Maui with loaded Mash. Horseradish dipping sauce was perfect to set this flavor off! Steak was PERFECT! Husband had the Tuna steak and it was cooked to perfection! Will be having those dishes again. DRINKS: We had the Grey Goose Dirty Martinis. The best I have ever had! The picture shows how they gave the extra in an ice bath to finish it off. All the drinks there are exceptional. PRICE: You get what you pay for! It is pricey but an amazing meal with cocktails averages $50 per person. The ahi tuna steak will go down as one of the best things I've ever eaten. The service was exceptional. Our waitress repeatedly checked on us. My glass never went empty. I will definitely be back. Always get The steak Maui. A really good cut ribeye steak. One of the best I've had. Love the atmosphere and the intimate setting. My wife and I love this place. You should definitely come here and get the spinach and artichoke dip, its the best I've ever had. The crab cakes are good as well from what me wife says. She gets them every time we come.
