Came to participate in Restaurant Week and we were truly disappointed. To start, came in as a party of 4, 2 ordered from the restaurant week menu.. We received our two main entrees before the appetizers, then once we received the appetizers, the Pepperjack boudin eggrolls (plural on the menu) came with ONE egg roll.. the Sugar cane shrimp came with TWO shrimp.. Our two main entrees came out cold, overcooked and were finished before the restaurant week entrees were put on the table. Our server blamed the kitchen but once speaking with the manager we were told that the server forgot to ring in half of the order.. Poboy bread was so smushed and soggy it was inedible. I came on a Saturday night excited to try Sammy's crawfish. Unfortunately I came too late because they didn't have any available at 9 PM (they close at 11). I decided to try the dozen garlic oysters for $20 instead. The oysters were smaller than other places I've tried, but I was still pretty pleased with my meal! The toast pairs perfectly with the oysters and they do not skimp out on the garlic butter!!! I haven't seen oysters given without the shell at a restaurant before, so that was pretty interesting. It's been a while since I've been to Sammy's, and I'm disappointed that they close their Prairieville location which is closer to where I live now in Gonzales. The last time I was there, it was during crawfish season, and I would give him five stars but we had to wait for quite a while for a table. This place is a must try while you visit Baton Rouge. Although I have yet to try other Cajun/crawfish restaurants while I was visiting Baton Rouge, but I have had a fair share of crawfish prior. The flavors are very good, and it was very fresh. Although I wish there's some additional cleaning of the crawfish before they start to cook these, but overall, the flavor is there. The gator bites we ordered were one of the best gator bites we ever had. Really wish these portions are bigger, but nevertheless, it doesn't affect the rating at all. As for the po-boy, I would skip. You can probably find better Po-Boy elsewhere. The service was relatively lacking. Please be aware that one side of the restaurant will need to be seated, and other side of the restaurant does not preclude to that. So make sure you know which side is which. Sammy's is usually one of my stand by places for lunch, but went earlier this week. pretty disappointed. We ordered an app. of onion rings, they were flavorless. I ordered thin cut a small thin cut catfish platter, this catfish was so thin it was like eating a fish cracker, you could barely even see any fish meat and the fries were mushy. I checked in and was told the wait would be 35-40 minutes, however it was more like 20 minutes. The checkin area is small and was crowded. Our server was a friendly young lady. My husband asked if he could get a sample shot of a drink he wanted but unfortunately she said they were not allowed to do samples, he was a little bummed about this bc most restaurants do it. He went ahead and ordered the Spicy Rum Punch which fortunately turned out to be pretty good. We decided to get the Crawfish Boudin Rolls and Fried alligator to start. The Crawfish rolls were just ok. Nothing I would reorder. The stuffing was a little to loose to me. The fried alligator bites were small but they were good. My daughter had the Fried Dijon chicken sandwich. She enjoyed it. I would definitely order it. Now for the big let down..... the boiled crawfish were salty! We had a total of 9 pounds and we just didn't enjoy the salty flavor. The size was nice and they had a nice spicy kick but the salt overpowered everything.
