This is one of our favorite local spots. The food is consistently good, which makes sense since they're part of the same restaurant group as a few other upscale places nearby. The crowd and waitlist speak for themselves. We called for Father's Day reservations right when they opened and actually had several time slots to choose from. The atmosphere is nice--dim lighting and an open kitchen. The staff helps each other out, so our glasses never ran dry and we didn't have to ask for anything. I got the Steak Maui--a marinated ribeye with pineapple teriyaki--and it came with mashed potatoes that were really good too. My daughter and I shared the house salad with their vinaigrette dressing, which we both liked. My husband and daughter both ordered the New York Strip and were happy with their meals as well. read more

This J. Alexander's is located on Galleria Boulevard across from the Costco and is your standard J. Alexander's location, which is nice as consistency is good with these chains! I recently gave my team the option of where they wanted to have lunch and J. Alexander's was the winning choice by far, so off we went on a Wednesday afternoon. This location is fairly large, well laid out, well kept and clean. The atmosphere, menu, vibes and service are elevated, but not pretentious. We had a reservation and were sat fairly quickly. From there, our server was quick to swing by and get us started with drinks and appetizers. We ordered a few appetizers including the Hong Kong Shrimp and a Spinach/Queso dip. Both were delightful and great starts to our meal. The pork chops were top priority for a few of my team, so a few went with the pork chops, another the burger and I went with the steak frites. None of us regretted our choices! Sadly between the appetizers and mains, we were a bit full to have dessert, but the menu sounded great. Service was friendly and helpful, but she was a bit tough to track down when we needed something. Did not detract from the meal, but was noticeable on at least two occasions. Overall, J. It's usually best to have reservations if you want to eat here. We arrived a little early and stopped by the bar for a drink before dinner. The bartender was very attentive and quick. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it was very good. After that, we moved to our table. For my entrée, I went with my usual, the Thai Kai Chicken Salad. As always, it was excellent with amazing flavor. My wife ordered the French Dip. It looked good, but they definitely skimped on the meat--check out the photos and you'll see what I mean. Our friend started with Alex's Salad and then had the Steak 'N' Fries. She said it was very good with great flavor. The fries were plentiful and tasty, which is always a plus. During the course of the meal, my wife ordered wine twice. Both times it took quite a while for the waiter to bring it. Not sure where the delay happened, but it was noticeable. Now on to dessert--the warm carrot cake with buttercream icing. It was amazing and a great way to finish the meal. Normally this place is a solid four-star spot for me, but with the slow wine service and the light portion on the French Dip, I had to drop it down a bit this time. Visited this J Alexander's while in TN and enjoyed the ambiance and food! I wish they had a kids menu but they did have some kid entrees but no menu for the kiddos they just tell you verbally what dishes they offer in kid size portions. My daughter got the kids Alfredo pasta and while it wasn't bad it was way too much sauce. My chicken that I added on to the house salad seemed like the seasoning was added on after it was cooked/grilled which I thought was odd. Overall a good experience. read more

My wife and I met a friend from Murfreesboro here on a Tuesday night. We made reservations so we were seated upon arrival. We were seated and quickly greeted by Yeager, our server. We were there visiting and eating for three hours. Yeager filled our glasses constantly and attentively asking if we needed anything. We had outstanding service. My wife and I could not decide what we want so we split a Hot Honey Pizza and a Country Club sandwich. The pizza was perfect, not too spicy. The little pappadew pepper add a sweetness (and the honey) to this. Its a great flavor. The club sandwich was also outstanding. We asked for some of that thousand island dressing with the sandwich to go along with the accompanying honey mustard. Both were very good with the sandwich. This was a very good combo. The first act of this culinary theater? The host stand. It was less "welcome, let's wow you" and more "why are you here, we're trying to go home." Purses on the counter, faces that said "clocked out in spirit"--the energy was less Michelin-starred and more gas station at midnight. But I thought, "Okay, don't judge the book by its cover. Let's push through." So we did. Walking to our table, the vibe shifted from dimly lit ambiance to "why is it this dark--are they hiding something?" We finally sat down and met our server, Samantha, who must've been attending the School of Minimal Effort. After about 7 minutes waiting, a quick "hello," and she was off, leaving us to stare at each other wondering if she'd ever come back. But hey, I wasn't going to let that ruin the night. Yet... For starters, we went with the ahi poke. Now, the poke itself? A faint whisper of Hawaii's beaches, sweet and slightly refreshing. But the lettuce boats? Oh, lawd! They looked like they were snatched straight from the clearance bin, at random, of a grocery store. Limp, some lifeless, and begging for mercy. Presentation matters, and this one screamed "meh." My companion, a beacon of grace, ordered the veggie burger without a bun. When it arrived, it was... well, let's just say the plating channeled a strong "hospital food" aesthetic. But despite its looks, she enjoyed it. I, on the other hand, opted for the blue cheese-crusted New York strip with a loaded baked potato. When it hit the table, I thought, "Now we're talking!" But alas, this steak was all bark and no bite. Decently plated, but where was the seasoning? It was like biting into a symphony that never left the first note. The blue cheese crust tried to save it, but even that couldn't redeem the lack of flavor. The loaded baked potato? The saving grace of the evening--hard to mess up, right? By this point, dessert was off the table--both figuratively and literally. Samantha's vibe was more "are we done yet?" than "can I tempt you with something sweet?" so we called it a night. Here's the thing: J. Alexander's could be great. It has the setting, the potential, and the menu to wow. But what we experienced was far from polished or professional. Instead of a night to remember, it felt like a night I'd rather forget. Final thoughts? If you're going to charge premium prices, you better bring premium everything--flavor, service, and energy. Sadly, J. Alexander's missed the mark on all three. For now, I'm sticking to the places that understand a dining experience isn't just about food--it's about making you feel like you belong. This has always been one of our favorite restaurants. Things are changing there. Lots of open tables when there's usually a wait. We were celebrating two birthdays. There were 8 of us. I had the prime rib which is usually wonderful. Not this time! And the smashed potatoes were GHASTLY. My husband tried to order a $12 glass of Chardonnay. They were out. So he chose another $12 glass. They were out. Only had the $18...my husband asked since they were out of both, would he be given the $18 at the $12 price. Nope! read more

Sent it back which took forever to get the new one after an already initially long wait during the lunch rush. Waitress said she misheard me on the cook temp. The server was a nice kid, but was so enamored by the 2 girls at the next table, that we were 3/4 way finished with our meal before he brought water or asked how our food tasted 2. The marinated ribeye was thin (1/2" or so and was overcooked and overpriced. Ordered medium rare, but it arrived medium well. My favorite J Alexander's by far, and I live closer to 2 others. Beautiful facility, incredibly friendly and efficient employees, and the food is always delicious. Today I had a "special", the London Roll. It was one of the best sandwiches of this type I've ever had anywhere. My wife had the club sandwich, and as always it was delicious. So, I've been a customer and a fan of J. A. For many years. But, not so happy today. I ordered one of my favorite dishes today. The Cajun trout. I think just a few years ago this dish was around $23. It keeps going up. Now at $35 and I know everything has increased. But, now they cut the portion in half! Yep, a full half piece of trout for now $35 plus tax plus tip. I'm all about a free marketplace and supply and demand. I think my demand is wavering. read more

Every time I come to J Alexanders I thoroughly enjoy myself, tonight was no different. Our waitress, Dorian, was amazing and very attentive. After a long day of work and she recommended the modern mule, which was delicious! My sister had a skinny Margarita which she also said was really good. Mom opted out of a cocktail. Everything we ordered came out hot. Our food was prepared well. The atmosphere here is great for solo meals, date nights, or groups. Below is what we ordered. Appetizer: Spinach con Queso Entrées: Steak Maui medium - cooked to perfection and one of my favorites entrées - Substituted the mash potatoes for the not your ordinary Mac n cheese Salmon - cooked to perfection - side of broccoli and Mac n cheese Chicken tender platter with fries and Mac n cheese instead of coleslaw As you can see the ordinary Mac n Cheese is a popular dish amongst my table. Great Christmas Eve experience, food is always consistent. The only recommendation I have is , even when people are waiting for tables, don't make customers feel the pressure. We spent considerable money on our meal to include cocktails , appetizers and full meals. We may have lingered a while for more drinks and later possibly coffee and dessert but it was obvious that they wanted to seat other waiting customers and we felt obliged to finish and move on. read more

TAMCAR conference is here this spring, first time to visit Cool Springs. This place was suggested and it did NOT disappoint! The inside is SO beautiful. We thought we might need a reservation, however we were seated within 5 minutes! We came to the conclusion that the staff must be ninjas, because before we even got close to finishing a drink it was replaced! Steak was the PERFECT med-rare and the macNcheeese.... Its TOASTED with an amazing mix of cheeses! Even the manager made time and asked us how everything was! Top notch service! I believe her name was Amber, and our server (so wonderful!) I am in town for TAMCAR, and we ate here last night. It was absolutely FABULOUS!! The restaurant was busy but, we got seated right away. Staff were phenomenal and extremely attentive. We started with the Alex salad and both ordered the prime rib. Best prime rib I've ever had, and trust me I try it everywhere. I added cajun to mine and it paired perfectly with the creamy horseradish. I wish I had taken a picture. Finished the night with a carrot cake. Wow! It is served warm with a delicious creamcheese? Icing? The atmosphere is very nice, with beautiful lighting and wines galore! You have got to try this place when you come to visit! 10/10!!!! read more

I love J. Alexander's, but I do not recommend going on a holiday. We were here for Fathers Day and I noticed a lack of food quality and service. I made a 6:30 reservation weeks ago, but we didn't get seated until 25 minutes after our reservation time. The waiter was kind, but inexperienced and slow on bringing us our beverages and answering details. Food was fine for the most part. My husband always orders the pork chop, but it was undercooked this time and my daughter's Caesar Salad was also lighter than usual. If you like Houston's, then this restaurant will be right up your alley--there are some similarities in both the menu and the overall vibe. A highlight of our visit was the superb service by Lindsey. She was very nice, took the time to go over the menu with us, and proactively split our salad, which we thought was a nice touch.
