We had made reservations to eat here at this restaurant due to never eating here before. Due to traffic we were unable to make our reservation on time and when we arrived they said they could still accommodate us. After waiting for about 10 min they came to tell us they no longer could accommodate us unless we were willing to wait 2 hours which we did not want to do. The ambiance in the restaurant was very beautiful. Even the bathroom was very nice. The menu you looked like it was going to have some good food but unfortunately we would not be able to stay and see about it due to the long wait.

I went for dinner last night with 2 friends. The meal was good and I received helpful advice from our server on what wine to get based on my palate preference. My veggie burger was delicious and the shoelace fries equally addicting. Unfortunately, after we ordered coffee following our meal, our server completely disappeared. We waited 20 mins for the dessert menu and a 2nd cup of coffee but then left.

Came here for a nice date night pre-show dinner before going to see a play at Drury Lane. The waitstaff was attentive and the food was great. I had the pecan coated trout which was good. I switched the coleslaw side for the broccoli and it was very good. Perfect cooked. The trout could have had more sauce on it. My husband had the pork chop and also liked that a lot. I also had a fleur-de-lis martini that was delicious. The place is large and was a great date night location. I would suggest it for dinner if you are in the area and looking for a nicer dinner experience.

The food here is pretty good. The drinks were very good. The portion size of the dishes were big. The waiter was really nice. We even met the manager, she brought over the complimentary birthday carrot cake which was moist and good. I just hoped for a little more variety of the food. I love salmon and I wasn't impressed with the option.

We knew that this restaurant has been around, but we always "take our time" before we try anything. Like usual, we are always looking to try different restaurants and of course we always read the reviews, check out the menu and have a discussion about it all before we go. Yes, it's that important. We made reservations for a Saturday afternoon and got seated right away. Joe was our waiter. The booth was really nice and so was the ambiance. For the drinks, I got a cranberry juice and he got the lemon drop mojito. His drink was nice and tart. The cranberry juice was just ok. Our friends recommended the chicken pasta soup and Alex's salad. So that's what we started with. My husband knows that I'm a harsh critic (the female version of Gordon Ramsey) and a very picky eater, so he let me taste everything first. I went through the soup with a spoon to see what was in it. It consisted of chicken pieces with penne pasta and a variety of vegetables in a cream based broth. It was sprinkled with parsley. I wasn't sure about it so I took a small bite just to see. It was surprisingly delicious! A little salty, but still acceptable. Everything in the soup blended together perfectly. He agreed. Next was Alex's salad...it was amazing! One of the best salads I had in a long time. Fresh and tasty ingredients, but the ranch dressing and the croutons were top tier. We both absolutely loved it! In the meantime, the service was slightly off. Joe forgot our extra ranch dressing and only gave us 3 paper napkins for the both of us. What are we supposed to do with just 3 napkins? We definitely needed more than 3. Ok, back to the food... For the main dish we wanted to try something "safe" since this was our first time here. We both ordered the steak burger. According to the menu, the beef is made from tenderloin and ribeye on a brioche bun. Instead of fries, we got the smashed potatoes. Ohhh mmm gee! We had steak burgers in the past, tasting like regular burgers. This J. Alexander burger actually tastes like steak! Annnddd the bun was fresh and toasted to perfection. The smashed potatoes were delicious too. No need for salt, pepper or gravy. It was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. Who knew that basic items on the menu (soup, salad, side) to be this damn good?! Everything was delicious, but the service was still slightly off. I told my husband that I would give this restaurant 4 stars because of the service. He told me to give it 5 because Joe really tried and to give him a benefit of the doubt. I wasn't totally convinced until a bit later. Remember what I said earlier in this review? I am a harsh critic. A female Gordon Ramsey. I critique everything and everyone when a review is being made by us. We received the check. $92 and some change. Ok, cool. After my husband paid the bill, Joe returned and thanked my husband and addressed him. By his last NAME. Out of all of the restaurants my husband and I ate out of over the years, NOBODY has ever addressed my husband by his name. That means sooo much! And because of that, Joe totally redeemed himself and now I'm writing this 5 star review for everyone to see. Yes, we will be back for more!

We had a birthday reservation at 7:30pm and we arrived a few minutes early. It took 25 minutes to be seated as the place was very busy. Erin was our server and she was awesome. Very attentive service! The food was so delicious. I had the Steak Maui marinated ribeye. The Filet Mignon was fantastic. The French dip torched it. Nothing better. Frankly the best we've had in a long time. The complimentary carrot cake was delicious. I would recommend this place but at a time whenever it's not so busy. Overall it's a good place to dine.

I wanted to treat my sister for her birthday at J. Alexander's in Oak Brook. We had a very pleasant experience with our server, Madison. She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. We started with the Hong Kong Shrimp Appetizer; it was enough for three to four people, with plenty of shrimp and a tangy salad dressing. My sister ordered a house salad, and I ordered the Red River Chili. For my main course, I ordered the pork chop with Apricot Glaze, which was delicious, along with crisp broccoli and smashed potatoes. My sister ordered the French Dip Sandwich with au jus and shoestring fries. It was so big that she took half of it home. We ordered Carrot Cake (a little too sweet for me), a big seller on the dessert menu, and coffee. I would encourage you to make reservations. We would go back in a heartbeat. There's plenty of parking.

I haven't been to this restaurant since they closed the one that was in Chicago. So when I went I had great expectations since I used to patronize them all the time. It was pretty crowded on a Sat evening, luckily we had reservations so we were Sat fairly quickly. The atmosphere was ok. The lightening was dim so a bit hard to read the menus. David was our host and he was engaging. The chicken pasta soup was surprisingly delicious. I had 1 of the specials of the evening which was kabob on rice. The kabob was actually seasoned pretty well. My friend had the red snapper, a special. He liked it but I personally thought it needed more seasoning. He also put salt and pepper on it after I tasted it. I didn't have a bad experience just not sure I would take the drive to go to this particular restaurant.

I've been going to J Alexander's for years. I was kinda disappointed with the quality of the food. We ordered the crab cakes previously this was an appetizer now it's an entree it comes with fries and coleslaw . The food arrived fast but cold and greasy I didn't enjoy it at all the Elite Margarita was awful the service was good the ambiance was nice

    Ask the Community - J. Alexander's

Is it warm enough at their outdoor dining?

The answer to this question is subjective based on the comfort level of the individual, but they do have outdoor propane heaters that typically do a nice job of keeping patios warm in cooler weather.

    Is there outdoor seating?

    Yes

Is it Family friendly? Have a 1 year old & 4 adults. Yes? No?

I believe it is, would totally take young ones there

Shopping mall chic?…read more If you've spent any time near a mall in the suburbs, there are a few staples you'll inevitably come across, one of them being Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse at 2105 S. Spring Rd. Gibsons has long been known as a go-to for a slightly upscale steakhouse experience in the suburbs. I hadn't been in years, but we were in the area and decided to go somewhere a bit nicer for dinner to celebrate my birthday, so we gave Gibsons another try. One highlight was the complimentary valet service, it was quick, easy, and very efficient. The restaurant was busy with lots of families and celebrations. The interior has a classic, almost mob-era steakhouse vibe, reminiscent of old-school 1930s-40s Italian-American dining rooms. Service was friendly and accommodating throughout the night. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and for my entrée I had a ribeye with a side of potatoes and broccoli. My friend ordered a filet mignon salad. We also shared a side salad. The food was solid overall, but the salads were a bit watery, and the ranch dressing was just okay. The steak was good, but not quite the standout I expected given the price point, ribs are close to $70, so expectations are understandably high. Everything felt consistent, but not particularly memorable. That said, Gibsons does feel very steady and familiar, which may be part of its appeal. It's the kind of place people return to because they know exactly what they're going to get. Even the bread was fine, but nothing really stood out as exceptional. One of the more memorable (and amusing) parts of the experience was the birthday tradition. I still can't fully make out what they're saying during the birthday song, it's loud, a bit barked, and honestly both funny and slightly intimidating. I can't decide if I love it or would be terrified by it as a kid. There was also an interesting moment with dessert, my ice cream was placed in a plastic bag inside a box of ice. Creative, but not exactly elegant. I definitely didn't eat it, but it was memorable in its own way. Overall, if you're looking for a consistent, classic steakhouse experience that leans more familiar than elevated, Gibsons fits that role. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Our service was well paced and we had a wonderful server. We started out with drinks and went ahead to order. Their salads are very much so made to share. We shred a Greek Salad small, enough for two-three people. I also ordered the Romanian Skirt Steak and a side of Cottage Fries. The steaks are always cooked to my liking and have plenty of juice. The onions at a great sweetness and is delicious. The cottage fries are great, and the ranch accompanied with it is delicious. It's a bit salty, I do think Wildfire is heavy handed on the salt. They packed our food in containers, which is great. At a restaurant like this, I expect it to be packed for me, especially when I have juicy meals. We waited almost 10 minutes just for water which to me is unacceptable because they were not that busy or crowded The ambiance was okay, average steakhouse vibes nothing impressive in my opinionI Now for the food...which honestly was mediocre. And before you say, I could've gotten something else because this is a steakhouse. I did not want a steak and I came here on the recommendation of my family. Bison meatballs 5/10: the best part of this dish was the tomato sauce but I will say you get a decent portion. The meatballs lacked flavor but the tomato sauce helped Mediterranean chicken skewers 8/10: the chicken wasn't dry, but it lack flavor. The sauce was really good, but portion size is minimal. Angus burger 7/10: burger was cooked as requested and had decent flavor. The fries were also good. Chicken club 5/10: changed the cheese to Gouda and added red onions to the burger. The chicken was flavorless and a little dry the mayo mustard sauce really helps. The fries are really good and they have a nice barbecue sauce if you like fries with barbecue sauce. Pineapple margarita 7.5/10: didn't care for the salt on the rim but this didn't lack flavor and had decent amount of liquor. Martini flight 10/10: mango and apple are the best flavors but they're all pretty good. Nice to get if you want different martini flavors. Overall, I don't think I'd come back to this establishment. The service was very lackluster. The food was also not that great in my opinion.

We sat in the bar and had a great server named Shawn. Shawn was engaging and provided great service. I'll definitely request him next time I visit. I wasn't drinking that night, but hubby solo'd it with a bourbon cocktail called a Paper Plane. He said it was very tasty, especially on the hot day. We shared the ahi tuna tartare to start. The tartare was a stack of tuna with tropical salsa and avocado. So fresh. It came with a basket of crispy lavish bread, I hope when the restaurant switches their recipe that they will continue making a seedless lavish for those who can't do nuts or seeds. Hubby had the wood grilled tenderloin salad for dinner. I had to get a taste of that tenderloin because it was cooked perfectly. It was so tasty and seasoned well. I had the wood grilled Idaho rainbow trout, swapping out the asparagus for carrots. The trout came with a dill mustard sauce which I nixed and just squeezed fresh lemon on the fish. The fish was moist and smoky. Of course, we had to get the little dessert shooters to end the meal. Hubby had the Belgian chocolate s'mores, which was ridiculously decadent. I had the more conservative raspberry cannoli dessert. These tiny sweet treats are delicious mini indulgences. I love them because you want something a little sweet at the end of a meal but don't want a huge dessert. I think they're perfect. I like Seasons 52 because every item on the menu has the calories listed. Their food is always very good and the service is top-notch. Then we get seated at a small WOBBLY UNSTABLE table that we have to put a napkin under ourselves to stop from wobbling. We then get served the food meant for the table next to us! It sat on our table for at least 3-4 minutes while we attempted to wave a waiter down to let them know. Then they had the AUDACITY to give the plates that were in front of us for minutes to the couple next to us whom the dishes we meant for!? INSANE!! Not a sorry or any kind of compensation. That's a health code violation and they are lucky that couple next to us didn't put up a fight. Their meal should have been free or Just remake the dish for the poor folks?? You made a mistake, admit to it and make it right!! Besides the wild health code violation, the vibes are pretentious and elitist. Not worth your money. Plenty of better options in the area. Super disappointed! Getting too big for your britches Fox Tail. We loved this place years ago but they have lost their touch.

Steakhouses are not really my thing; I can count on my fingers the number of times I've been to one in my life. But Ditka's seemed intriguing because it was just around the corner from my parents' house. I am really glad this is where I saw the game and can concur with other Yelpers. This is not a Bears-themed steakhouse as much as it is a steakhouse with some Ditka art. Don't expect to see wall to wall memorabilia. But what this place does exceptionally well is food and service. The attentiveness was perfect - not obsequious, not absent. I ate lots of different sides and they were all good: the house salad; oven-fired bread; jalapeño hasbrowns; etc. Even though I did not try any of the entrees or steaks, this is clearly a restaurant for people who care about food.

A real beauty, only to be dreadfully disapointed by the excessively mustard coated peices of lump crab meat. . Unfortunately, the dish was returned due to being inedible. The server explained the crabcakes are made earlier in the day not at order. Suggestion, approach with caution unless you favor ball park mustard in excessive quantities. The chopped coleslaw accompanied the order allowed for an addition insult...a mouthful of diced onion. The service was professional and handled this situation without complaint. Hopefully The management will try a tasting and revise recipes, or caution customers.
