This is a big coffee house with plenty of tables and outlets for plugging in your devices. Great for studying, they have small meals and breakfast, as well as pastries. However, it does get very noisy here. Sometimes there's live music, which is a plus! Their coffee is delicious! read more

I've ordered online in the past and called for curbside when I don't have a mask. In the past they've been so kind and run my order out to me. Today they told me they're not doing that anymore and if I came in they had masks. So I go in, no masks. I don't mind but I'm standing waiting where I assume I should be- 15 minutes go by. No one mentions my lack of mask or offers me one. Finally I see my order back on a shelf, get in line, mention to the barista that it's my online order and then she asks me if I have a mask. I said no. So instead of handing me my order which was closer than the masks, she gets a mask to which I respond I'm literally going to take my order and leave. So she debates and then hands me my order. Overall they were friendly but if you're going to be a stickler for mask, have them available at the door and don't wait until I've already been inside for 20 minutes waiting for a pastry and tea! read more

One of my weekly regular places. However PLEASE START TAKING LUNCH CALL IN ORDERS AGAIN!! The lunch and breakfast sandwiches are awesome- however when they stopped taking call in orders for food it really makes it inconvenient for busy working professionals wanting to grab a quick healthy lunch to go. Great place to go to grab coffee with someone or to get some homework done! But it does have its downsides. First they do not allow open or concealed carry for handguns. Second this coffee shop is always way too packed and it is hard to find a decent seat to sit anywhere. Third, the coffee shop has a burnt coffee smell that will linger on your clothes all day. Besides this it is a great place to go and I recommend it to everyone! read more

The coffees and teas are great. However, this is the third time I have gone to J & B, ordered inside, waited over 20 minutes after seeing 3 customers come in after me and leave before me with their orders, to be told by staff "your order has been sitting up here ready for a while." I don't see the hassle in announcing someone's name multiple times if they happened to not hear it in the loud coffee shop environment. And it would be one thing if it was an "omg I'm so sorry! It's been up here for a while!" But the barista was blatantly rude about it. The cashier was the only one that was kind about it. read more

The location is great and the workers are generally upbeat and patient with customers. The atmosphere gets a bit crowded around the beginning and end of the school year when students are trying to cram so it gets a bit overwhelming around then. They are quick and friendly though so it's hard to complain with a great staff on hand. It's decently priced too so that's a plus! I would definitely choose J & B over Starbucks- not that I have anything against Starbucks! read more

I loved the visual aesthetic of this shop, as well as the tunes playing throughout the store, but I was left a little wanting in the hospitality department. Both baristas who served us gave speedy service, but it seemed to be a function of getting through the line as quickly as possible; As someone in the service industry--coffee, specifically--I understand the value of efficient service, especially as the person working the register, but I wish this barista would have taken my questions about himself and J&B coffee as a cue for conversation rather than an obstacle to his service. It's possible both of the baristas we were served by were having a difficult day, which is allowed and understandable, especially in the service industry, but I'd have loved to have engaged a little more deeply with their baristas and their products. I tried the cortado, and the shot was a bit over-extracted, but my husband and I really enjoyed their chai latte. We don't visit Lubbock often, so I was a bit let down to have had this less-than-awesome experience. Overall, we can definitely see the appeal of this shop, but we hope to have a more engaged experience the next time we visit. read more

Just & Bieber? Jonas & Brothers? John (Wilkes) & Booth? No one seems to know what J&B stands for (just kidding, I do because my boyfriend emailed the manager and asked) (it's Jones & Bumstead) (you're welcome), but we are all familiar with its charming selection of coffees, teas, sandwiches, and pastries. Located just minutes from Texas Tech or several hours from some other school, J&B is "probably the most popular coffee shop in Lubbock," I declare with absolutely no backing. Wrapped head to toe in windows, tons of gorgeous (and sometimes blinding) natural light floods in during the day, while the hanging light fixtures create beautiful speckled reflections on the glass at night. The perimeter is lined with booths and there is a cozy sofa seating situation on one end of the shop, but the rest of J&B is filled with a hodgepodge of tables and chairs of varying heights. "Hodgepodge" is also the name of a drink they offer. The baristas here are so fun and friendly, too! One of the J&Baristas (Lando Valdez) creates monthly pastel illustrations of different customers in the back room, and I edited a video about him and his work! In town from Austin visiting our daughter. This place was down the street and busy, so we gave it a try. Let me just preface this with I'm absolutely spoiled by the amazing coffee shops in Austin, so I probably have too high expectations. Everywhere I go I order a cappuccino. I asked the girl at the counter how many oz their cappuccinos were and she said 12. So I simply asked her to please make it 6 oz. Half the milk. She did not communicate that properly to the barista who made the cappuccino and filled it to the top. I went up to him and apologized and asked if he could please remake it and just don't fill the cup up all the way to the top. He was incredibly smarmy and said he didn't know what that meant on the ticket. Ok, so.... Shouldn't you ask the cashier who took the order? He begrudgingly remade it and when I picked it up he schooled me to let me know I wanted a cortado. Clearly he thought I was a moron and didn't know how to order my coffee. I absolutely did not want a cortado, which is NOT enough milk. The point is, he was so rude and pretentious and had there been communication between them, he would have made it properly the first time. I am a bartender and I deal with people all the time that are particular and I NEVER would school them, when trust me, I want to, because it's truly unprofessional. Big space! Back room! Large windows! Convenient location! Free wifi (can be a tad slow sometimes)! This is a great place for getting work done or catching up with an old friend. My personal all time favorite is the Venetian iced coffee. It is perfectly and lightly sweetened. They have great freshly baked pastries and a great tea selection too. Their foo foo sweet drinks are actually quite good. However, I typically judge a coffee house purely on the quality of their coffee alone. And I have not been impressed with its taste. I'm an avid coffee drinker. Having lived in the Bay area the past 6 years where there's at least one coffee shop on every block nearby where I lived, and there's always the staple Philz and Blue Bottle to satiate my coffee urges whenever needed, I was extremely disappointed after arriving to Lubbock, TX where there's hardly any coffee shops nearby. Where am I supposed to go when I need a caffeine boost the coming two years I'll be staying in this sizzling arid city? Thankfully, someone suggested I try out this place because, supposedly, this is where all the college/faculty of TTU/HSC go for their coffee breaks. I tried their Caramel Cowboy with only half the amount of syrup and it was definitely DELICIOUS! This place serves very good drinks and a large variety, the london fog is my fav but the smoothies and traditional tea is also v good. This is not the place for studying alone or listening to music. I am also annoyed because I had a Styrofoam cup with water in it (because I am a broke college student whose water bottle broke) and they came up to me and asked if they could throw it away for me because they don't allow it. Great coffee shop and friendly staff, the down side is that it can be overcrowded and hard to get a table, the parking lot isn't always the best either. Love this place - best baristas in town and very comfortable place for a quick meeting or a long work session. After moving here recently, I came almost everyday for a coffee [or iced tea] and used the internet. Also, they're open early to very late [which is tough to find in Lubbock].
