I have been coming here for 17 years and after being away for months I still come here first chance I get,great coffee and great service.

Came on Saturday morning, when there should be a full staff that is efficient because it is a busy time, but it took 45 minutes to get 2 drinks. Staff was not urgent whatsoever, one might have even been hungover. This place used to be quick and easy, but something happened to operations. There is a huge line waiting on drinks currently and online orders are continuing to come in and slowing it wayyyy down. Not coming back for awhile. read more

I just moved here for graduate school and I noticed everyone talking about this coffee shop so I decided to give it a try about two months ago. Wow. I've been coming here multiple times per week since my first experience, and everything I try is superb. The staff are really friendly and accommodating if you want a special twist in your drink. I will warn that it gets super busy especially during the weekends when students are trying to catch up on their studies, so this might not be a place to go if busy places give you anxiety. I find the ambience to be a great supplement to my studying. read more

Stopped in to grab a coffee on the road. Mostly this is a college/neighborhood place but I had heard about it so I got off the highway and went there. The place was busy on a Monday night during the summer, but there was no wait to order. I ordered the bold coffee of the day and a carmel frappe for my wife. What a good cup of coffee. It was not so hot you couldn't drink some right away either. It was not bitter or really acidic like some others I could name either. It was a very good cup of coffee, very smooth and easy to drink. I'm visiting the area and had been trying a few different places. Came here and asked the cashier for a recommendation and she cut me off with her answer. When I asked it it was better iced or hot, she just started at me and didn't even answer. The whole transaction was very rude. Then I waited a very long time for my two coffees. I love J&B, it really is good, the coffee and food are both good. The only issue is that it's loud and always busy. It isn't there fault, I had to repeat myself about three times that I needed oatmilk in my coffee. She finally heard me, and my coffee was still made with regular milk. I have a dairy allergy, and so it just made me feel really bad. This isn't the first time it's happened either and it always happens at J&B. read more

This is my first trip to Lubbock and I'm so glad I chose to give J&B my morning! Busy place, but I was lucky to find a table. I highly recommend the Caramel Cowboy, yum! J&B is pretty okay. They use Evocation coffee for anything espresso, and Evocation is like pretty much the best ever, but their Daybreak coffee (what they've got for drip) is just terrible. So it's really a toss-up. Or a ploy to get you to spend extra money on espresso drinks. Their tea selection is excellent. I sometimes get a little sad that they don't brew it with any kind of method at all, but as the Stones have famously adage'd, You Can't Always Get What You Want. They randomly have really good breakfast sandwiches. Overpriced, but delicious. Love it or hate it, J&B is an awesome place to smoke. One of the few in Lubbock. I love it and could smoke there forever. It's also very dog-friendly. All of this on their front porch, of course. Sometimes their employees are a little grumpy. Best coffee in Lubbock! Great environment. I'm a sucker for a great vanilla latte and this place has an exceptional vanilla latte!

J&B is such a fun hang out spot. The baristas are friendly, and it's a really awesome place to see so many different members in a community. I love the workers there, I've never had a drink that wasn't good or tasted different from the last time I ordered it. Their unity is really spot on for a local coffee shop. The only thing I don't like about j&b is the weird smell my clothes have when I leave. I know- a little nit picky. I normally end up smelling like burnt coffee for the rest of the day, the smell really sticks. If I don't have anything else for the rest of the day, I don't normally mind. I really like their plain black coffee, it's got great flavor and isn't watered down. I also enjoy their specialty drinks (when I feel like splurging), the Lubbock High is always delicious. read more

I stopped here on a Friday morning. There was a constant flow of people coming and going plus several dozen people doing work, reading, socializing, or having a meeting. I brought my netbook and found a table easily enough. The two tables on either side of me were being used, but I didn't feel crowded. Daphne L is correct: their Caramel Cowboy with the full shot of caramel is REALLY sweet. The Caramel Cowboy, which includes a shot of vanilla, is much better than the HodgePodge, which is chocolate and caramel. Yes, I had large sizes of both and the world seems to be moving in slow motion. The free wi-fi worked well. There were times the signal seemed to stall, but I don't know if that was the wi-fi or my netbook. This would be a nice place for a meet-up, first date, or simply hanging out with friends. Maybe outside when the weather is better, if you don't mind sitting close to the parking lot. It is loud at times due to people talking, idiots who feel the need to scream on cell phone conversations, and the coffee making.equipment. The sounds bounce around the room very easily. Some fabric decorations on some of the walls might help. I would definitely come back here again. read more

Friendly staff, and I love how open it is with great light. Coming from the 806 in Amarillo, it feels a bit sterile and lacking character but it's a nice place to get some work done and the coffee I had was good. I'm not a coffee snob so it's hard for me to critique their roast with any depth but the Bourbon Street was tasty. I'll be back for sure. The head of the coffee empire in Lubbock, the owners also control daybreak coffee. The cinnamon rolls are good, the coffee is made with a smile a good 80% of the time and it beats Starbucks in terms of friendliness and local flair. Free wifi is also nice. I really wish they'd make it more comfortable, however. I guess they aren't there to play host to my work, but since I go to coffee shops to work and not simply to drink coffee, a comfortable place to sit and spread out would be a boon. read more

Amazing coffee! Visited J&B two mornings in a row on a recent visit to Lubbock and both visits were just perfect! The coffee has an awesome flavor and was absolutely delightful. We also had breakfast there both mornings and their food is super fresh and well prepared. The service staff were very friendly and patient...super cute place to just hang out too. I've joined yelp specifically to rate this coffee stop. My brother was a regular customer, he's very picky about his coffee and loved J&B. He is a plumber and works all across the city. If you've been to any J&B you know they have multiple locations, some of which are drive through. My brother tends to stop in before work at one location, and then during at whichever location he happens to be nearest to. Well, the girl who works at the one on Indiana got it in her head that because he stopped there multiple times that he was following her and their reaction was to ban him from all locations. I don't know the name of the girl, but just as a warning be careful and don't stop there more than once in a day if you don't want to be accused of 'stalking'. I'm sorry, but I've never heard of that until now.. most places consider that customer loyalty. read more

Had a very nice French Press made cup of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. Price was $3, which was reasonable for one of their premium Evolution coffees. Staff was friendly. They have outdoor chairs and tables. They're just on the sidewalk facing the parking lot, so not a super nice spot but good enough to enjoy a cool morning. I assume you could sit out there with a dog, too. I don't get to Lubbock much but will seek out J&B again when I'm here. read more

We stopped in on the way to the highway in the morning and it was fantastic. The menu has something for everyone, including some drinks for coffee drinkers with a sweet tooth (see the Lubbock High). We ended up getting and iced latte with raspberry, an iced red eye, a breakfast sandwich, and a couple of scones (while we were waiting for our coffee I had a bite of the one I ordered and quickly decided that we needed another for the road). Very cute and satisfactory venue in Lubbock. Not the normal Capitalistic Starbucks. I love the originality of this place. The inside is amazing filled with interesting people and a good amount of space to hangout or study and learn in the back. There are two entrances and one leads to the Barista. The coffee is good and it tastes like coffee made for the individual. I've had their winter specials and I look forward to them again this comming fall. The barista help you out when you don't know what you want and help fill your craving. Cookies there are delicious don't be shy! Try one! Chocolate chop is classic. The space at the front can be noisy but good for those that can study and socialize. The back section is for more respectful crowd that needs silence. There are usually art pieces displayed there, bands playing, or the usual Texas Tech organization meeting. I recommend going during the winter, or for Philosophy Cafe! This is *the* coffee place in Lubbock if you are looking for where people/students/teachers hang out working on their school work, grading undergraduate work, catching up with friends, or just riding bikes through the Tech Terrace neighborhood. What I like about this place best is the windows--the whole North side is open viewing, so you don't ever feel claustrophobic when it gets crowded (and I have never been here when the seats weren't at 85% capacity). It's a nice alternative to other chain cafes--reminds me a little of the Northwest where there is a coffee shop across from a coffee shop (and no, not all Starbucks). I can't comment on their specialty drinks because I am a Large Black Drip drinker (sorry), but the prices are pretty reasonable and I love that there is outdoor seating, since Lubbock has beautiful weather for 95% of the year! read more

The BEST coffeeshop that I've been to in Lubbock AND Houston. I was first introduced to this place by my bf and have been hooked on this place ever since. Like literally, I need to come visit this place more than once now whenever I come to visit him. I'm seriously hooked on their specialty lattes. My all time favorite is the Lubbock High, then the Royal Red Raider, and then the Greek Treat. But since these types of drinks do go up high on the price range, I order their americanos if I don't have any extra fundings to afford the lattes. (I know sad... but it goes by the definition of a college student) I'm still on the search for a coffeeshop in Houston that matches up to this mighty coffeeshop. read more
