This is a nice edition to the actual restaurant next door and you can buy fresh seafood and some food to sit at their patio and enjoy. They had multiple good options but it was way too pricey to have in a market. The same price as eating inside. I had the mermaid bowl for a whooping $27... small piece of salmon and some rice and green beans. It was very tasty but way overpriced. We also had the fish and chips which comes with their awesome sauce. Perfect bread to fish ratio but still overpriced for a market. They should have cheaper items or at least smaller portions for less if you are not eating in the restaurant. They guy behind the counter was very nice and tried his best but seemed a bit overwhelmed as he was basically doing everything what the server inside would do but also making sure all customers got their order and also served them food. Should be a two man operation. Hope he gets paid well!!

Our monthly date night turned into a spontaneous food binge. After biking off the beach to the main street to find some food, we conveniently stopped right in front of Roe. We opted for their more casual takeout service, their market side. Shared their Blackened Mahi Sandwich, which came with kennebec fries with their Roe Sauce ($20) - such an amazing sandwich! Fish was cooked perfectly, the ciabatta soaked up as much of the sauces as it could, fries were out of this world with the additional sauce on the side to make all your taste buds work. The food was superb, and I can't wait to try more! Service, on the other hand, was cold, hoping for a warmer welcome on the other side of this eatery.

This seafood spot is an absolute MUST when in Long Beach! Roe has been serving up the freshest seafood both at their restaurant and fish market since 2015! If it's your first time, definitely order their Poke Cevichos for a mix of ceviche and tuna poke over tortilla chips. The Capitan Platter comes with fish & chips, calamari fries (SO GOOD!), popcorn shrimp, fries, and coleslaw, and is perfect to share! Also the perfect spot to bring your pup in their outside patio.

Wonderful ambiance trendy vibe. The service is super friendly and prompt. The patio area was chilly but the heat lamps kept it comfy. The food was wonderful. They had multiple menus, lots to choose from. The Happy Hour has wonderful pricing. We had the crunchy roll bowl, seasonal oysters and ceviche - all good! The fish and chips were perfectly cooked- the fish was flakey and the outside was not too thick and crispy. It had 2 dip choices but was delish without dipping. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the pappardelle came with lots of tender short rib meat! We are picky about our fried rice and would have liked it to be a bit more authentic- but still good. We were celebrating a birthday and the complimentary dessert was fabulous! We will be back!

Definitely a place to come for great drinks and good foods (prices maybe on the high side). But great location and near home so can't complaint about that. They do have a great menu of drinks and the bartenders are great of making it consistently. Our servers are wonderful and great on checking on us to see if we need anything else. They do have both indoor and outdoor so it's nice to be inside during cold or raining days and outside for ocean breezes during hot days. Love it here.

They say location is everything! I've been taking strolls down 2nd street for years but this was the first time I ate at Roe. As much as I like the shops, bars and steak houses Roe is properly on the outskirts (better yet the end) of 2nd street. Live Jazz, awesome menu filled with plenty of seafood favorites, a welcoming and knowledgeable staff plus Happy Hour! Definitely a true gem. So how did it taste? Grand Manier & Coke - I normally don't comment on my drinks especially a simple one. However, the bar tender did all the little things. Asked if I wanted it neat, on the rock, with a wedge and even what type of glass I wanted. If you're like me, those things matter. Definitely took the guessing out of it and I couldn't have been more pleased. Ciopinno - this California original dish had all the things that you want from a stew. A great bite, a good blend of wine and tomato paste in the broth and a selection of crustaceans. I just with there were a few less shells to highlight the fish and a bit of heat. The sourdough roll, though abundant, was a bit much without a steak knife. Awesome to sop up the broth once the seafood is gone. Peruvian Scallops - though chilled, they pack a nice punch with (what I believe is a wasabi lemon mixture). Not a bad first bite. If you're in the area and want a different pace of a night out, Roe did not disappoint. Not only was this a beautiful venue but the live Jazz definitely made me feel like I was on another side of town. The food was light enough to consider dessert. Great Job Roe

    Capitan Platter

FYI: There's two Roe. One is the seafood market at the corner and attached right next to it is the restaurant itself. Only street parking. I didn't know the restaurant existed until I left the seafood market. Anyhoo, we ordered the Captain Platter, Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Fried Fish Tacos. Out of 3 items we ordered, I would say the captain platter was the best. I think everything on the platter was good. The chicken sandwich was MEH and so was the Fish Tacos. The fish tacos tortillas were crumbling and falling apart. It's quite hard to eat the fish tacos while trying to hold everything together. I will try the restaurant next time when in the area. Maybe it will be better.

Absolutely Phenomenal -- One of My Favorite Restaurants!…read more I cannot rave enough about this restaurant! I have been here more than 50 times, and there is a reason I continue to come back. The food, drinks, service, atmosphere, and location are consistently amazing. The food is always fresh and delicious, with a great menu selection and something for everyone. The drinks are fantastic, the ambiance is beautiful, and the staff is friendly, attentive, and provides excellent service. I have recommended this restaurant to several people and have even brought friends and family from out of town here. They loved it so much that they already want to come back! That says everything. After more than 50 visits, I can confidently say this place continues to deliver. Whether you're looking for great food, amazing drinks, a wonderful atmosphere, or just an overall great dining experience, this restaurant checks every box. If you haven't tried this place yet, you are definitely missing out. Give it a try -- I can almost guarantee you'll be back. I know I will!

I came here salivating with such a craving after browsing Yelp for a great place to eat, which I…read moreusually do when I'm searching for something new to try. I came here for seafood, specifically their Oyster Rockefeller, because I haven't had it in decades. It's one of my all-time favorite dishes, along with foie gras, bone marrow, head cheese, suckling pig, and more. I was happily surprised to discover it's located across the street from my favorite studio, Mr. Inkwell's Classic Tattoo & Piercing. I guess I didn't pay close attention when I mapped out directions--a real downside of relying on GPS these days. I remember when I used to memorize streets, locations, and directions every time I visited a new place or traveled. Anyway, I digress. The place is fancy and spacious, with a market out front, divided into three or four sections: the bar stools right in front of the bar, the bar seating area, the main dining space, and an enclosed patio. The employees all looked experienced and mature, like they had been there for more than a decade. The three hostesses at the front were younger. After looking at the menu, I decided to start with their peach puff pastry topped with vanilla bean ice cream. When a dessert catches my eye, I often prefer to indulge in it first because I might be full afterward. It didn't disappoint. I took my time, savoring every bite. The freshly cut peaches had a nice bite, while the puff pastry was crunchy and flaky, with its very tasty cream. The vanilla bean ice cream was simply delightful. After finishing, I didn't want to spoil the high from such an amazing dessert, so I decided to take the oysters home. It's half a dozen. Presentation-wise, they're a bit underwhelming compared to previous ones I've had. And just so you know, I used to work part-time as a server at an upscale American restaurant at the top of a fancy old hotel in Long Beach, at a well-known authentic Italian pizza place in San Diego, at a small Korean bar in Torrance, at a family-owned Filipino restaurant, and at a Japanese fast-food chain, among others. Even with a full-time 8-5 corporate job, I still worked part-time as a server, dining host, and karaoke hostess. My three favorite pastimes are enjoying delicious food, meeting new people, and discovering new adventures. To continue, my biggest disappointment was that two of the six Oyster Rockefellers didn't contain any oysters at all! It's baffling how that could happen. Usually, Oyster Rockefeller looks bulky with build-up depth from the spinach, cheese, butter, and seasonings on top of the oysters themselves. But these looked dull and bland with a plain flat top. They also weren't that hot. It wasn't really appetizing. Two of them only had the adductor muscle (that round, fleshy part attached to the shell), which I actually love, by the way. So you see, I couldn't be mistaken, as I slurped the oysters only to taste the spinach, cheese, butter, and the little bitty meat muscle I had to scrape a little off the shell with a fork. There were definitely no chewy, soft, and tasty oysters. I hope it was just a simple mishap, especially for an upscale restaurant known for its seafood dishes. Hopefully, a member of management sees and reads this review and takes corrective action to ensure this never happens again. Please note that the usual price for great-tasting Oysters Rockefeller at a well-established restaurant is $30. This place charges $25, which makes me think twice. But then again, some of its dishes are priced a few dollars lower than most, except for the dessert, which costs a few dollars more at $15. However, I still enjoyed it so much that it doesn't matter to me. In life, there are always pros and cons when it comes to overall preferences. It is always up to you to try things yourself and not rely on someone else's opinion, which might prevent you from discovering new things. That said, I am willing to come back to try other dishes that look equally scrumptious and reasonably priced: Toodle-loo, my darling readers. Until next time.

I kept going back to give them another shot, but at this point, I've decided I can't recommend anyone to eat here, especially for the price point. This last visit I had an amazing bartender and preserved a poke bowl, ceviche, and shrimp cocktail. None were good and I can't even call them satisfactory. I had two bites of the poke and it was bland, boring, and actually tasted bad. Same with the shrimp. The ceviche was also off and my friend and I left full plates and no questions were asked as to why and if we liked the food. We didn't. Very cute place, friendly servers. Mediocre at best food, and very expensive. This 11th chance leaving disappointed (and hungry) was the last chance. I tried.

When she politely brought it to Marisol's attention, instead of acknowledging that there may have been a mistake, Marisol insisted the order had never been placed that way. She then asked my daughter if she wanted to order the missing item while she was already there to pick up her food, which would require waiting another 15 minutes. Since the delay was the result of an incorrect order, my daughter asked if she could at least receive fresh fries while waiting. Marisol told her she would have to pay extra for fresh fries. Marisol also claimed that she had repeated the order back over the phone when it was originally placed. That simply isn't true. She rushed my daughter off the phone, saying she'd see her in 15 minutes, without reviewing the order. We've continued to support A&J's because the food is consistently excellent, but experiences like this make it harder to keep coming back. Great food can only go so far when customers are made to feel dismissed instead of valued. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and provides additional customer service training so loyal customers receive the experience they deserve.
