After several disappointing experiences with other local salons, I began going to J Andrews 4 months ago. I noticed the change immediately- My stylist, Nik, was pleased to set up a brief consultation appointment before he ever took scissors to my hair! He is clearly very knowledgeable about his trade & understands the importance of stellar customer service. I receive frequent compliments about my hair, and I noticed that it grows out much more evenly than my previous haircuts in Chicagoland. One of my fave things about the salon is that it's frequently busy, but you never feel as if anyone's "rushing through" to get to their next head of hair. Since I'm driving from a different part of town, it's nice that the salon offers discounted parking (with validation) in the building's garage. Just got highlights and a cut from Nicki at J. Andrews. I was a little worried trying to find a reasonably priced salon without giving up quality, and I definitely got that here! Nicki was amazing! She gave me the exact blonde color I was looking for. She was so nice and social, we were chatting away like old friends the entire time. My hair looked amazing after her blow dry it's honestly the best styling I've had after a haircut! Nicki even touched up my makeup before I left and I couldn't wait to go out and show it all off. hands down safest establishment I've been to since reopening started. temperature checks! and they were sanitizing every. single. surface. between customers and employees. they're taking covid guidelines so seriously, it's really impressive. I've been coming here for like a year and a half, maybe two years? but I've gotten big haircuts and trims, and Nic (the owner) took my from this gross balayage someone else did to dark red and made it look so natural. it was the coolest color, I got so many compliments on it, and he really knows his stuff!! Kayla has also colored/cut my hair and she's fantastic. two weeks ago I went and asked her to try to match my natural color and she nailed it. they also do Olaplex here and gloss treatments which I'm all in on, I honestly didn't think my hair could look as healthy as it does now after I've started coming here. huge fan, worth the money every time. thank you guys!! read more

The stylist team at J. Andrews salon made our wedding day a dream come true. It was such a pleasure to work with them throughout the whole process, including setting up hair and makeup try-on appointments to ensure that I had the exact look I wanted for my wedding day. Becky is the best-- she and I have been friends for years, but even after moving to the area I was hesitant to use her as my hairstylist because...well, what if I didn't like the cut? I finally bit the bullet and saw her for a haircut last weekend. I am so glad I went! Becky took all the time we needed to discuss how I wear my hair normally, what products I do/don't use, and what kind of a cut I'd like. I have gotten so many compliments on my haircut just since yesterday. I almost never get my haircut-- it's hard for me to trust anyone with my hair. I came here to get my hair cut by Nic and it was absolutely amazing! You can tell how experienced he is with hair, and he knows what looks good to your hair type. I highly, HIGHLY recommend the J Andrews salon to anyone who wants a great hair cut. Even though this place is in the Gold Coast, it's not intimidating. The space itself is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly. Coat is always asked to be taken and coffee/water is in my hand w/in 5 minutes. Started out here 3 years ago with waxing, then added cuts and facials as my salary increased. Prices are standard and the service goes above and beyond. Example: Kim, the esthetician/co-owner, not only waxes my eyebrows, but she'll go back and pluck any strays and trim them so they're absolutely perfect. Waxing is painful by default but she minimizes the pain very well. Alyssa has been my stylist for 2 years (since the day I cut my hair for Locks of Love). She made me feel comfortable from that day forward. Always a consult before she cuts. Been getting compliments on my hair ever since and it's all thanks to her. I love this place so much that even though I moved out of the neighborhood a year ago, I still come back on a monthly basis. read more

I love this place. They always fit me in and Nevis manages my massive curls with grace. Whether it's a cut or a blow out, I end up feeling and looking like a million bucks. Nevis is definitely my girl! The salon itself is not fancy by Gold Coast standards, but I like that. It takes the pressure off of trying to feel cool and let's face it, no one feels cool while in the beautification process. The whole staff is friendly and helpful instead of snooty so you can just relax. I also had Kim do my eyebrows and she did a great job reshaping them for $15 bucks. Prices are reasonable-$55 for a cut and blow out. Keep in mind that I have long thick, curly hair that takes an hour + to straighten. I have paid $50 for just a blow out elsewhere. They have a wide selection of products from Aveda to some obscure stuff and also they have some of their own products. Bonus-a glass of wine is always available. read more

I have been going to J Andrews for 6 years and seeing Nicole for nearly 4. She's a talented stylist and a great gal - friendly, unassuming and very pleasant. I've always been happy with her work and have seen her refine her techniques over the years. The salon is lovely, too. Here's the deal...I may be the client going to Nik, the owner of J Andrews for my color and haircuts the longest. Last month was 26 years. He is undoubtedly the best colorist and stylist. Never have I needed to call or return for a repair, as my friends have needed to do at other salons. I travel quite a distance to see Nik and it is well worth it. The compliments on both my hair color and cut continue. The salon has a cool vibe as well and it is always a relaxing experience. I love going to J Andrews and as long as I can make the drive I will. I recommend J Andrews and Nik and his wife, Kim,who does facials, waxing and message therapy, as well as other stylists. You will not regret the decision to try this salon. read more

Needed a new hairdo and they were NICE here. Tanya pretty much read my mind. I loved what she did with my hair. They front desk was so friendly. It's called good customer service when they offer to cut the hair length even after blow drying, in case I didn't like the hair length. It's also called good customer service when the hair stylist remembers my telling her that i'd be going on a trip and sends me a bon voyage card. Was touched by it! I went to J Andrews Salon for the first time yesterday and was so happy with all the services I received. From the moment you enter the salon you are greeted with such positive energy and smiles it is wonderful! It is such a fun space and the staff all share so much positive energy! Sarah was absolutely phenomenal at color, she painted my hair and brought back my natural look, the change was truly incredible. Maricela did an excellent job cutting and styling my hair and gave my hair such a beautiful cut. Kim's facial was such a wonderful and relaxing experience. Without a doubt, the hardest thing to do when relocating to a new city, is finding a salon! After trying a dozen or so recommended by co-workers a number of years ago, I finally decided to try one close to my new home. I've been there ever since. I love my hair EVERY time I walk out the door. (We've tried a lot of different styles over the years so that's saying a lot.) I went to J Andrews based on the yelp reviews. I really wanted to like this place but it fell short and I'm really disappointed. I went to Nicki for high lights and she is very nice and personable and did a good job on that but I wasn't happy with the cut and style. The style was so bad that I put my hair in a ponytail when I left for fear for someone to see me. I still wanted to see Nicki for high lights but couldn't get in the second time so I saw Nichole instead because I had an event where I needed my hair to look good. Nichole made my hair look solid blonde when I wanted my hair to look more natural. I didn't like the blow dry style either but I dealt with it. I called the next day to express my disappointment in the color and said I needed a few low lights to break up the color. I was told it would cost me to do this and I said I wouldn't pay for a correction. Then the receptionist said Nichole wanted to see me. So I took time out of my busy Saturday to go see her to be told it would cost me $60 for the low lights on top of the $160 I already paid for the high lights. Nichole gave me a tone when talking to me which took me aback. In all my years of getting my hair done I have never been charged for a correction. Even though Nicki is nice I won't be back. The prices were not cheaper as other places I have gone either. I really wanted this to be my new salon but I won't be back. When I pay this kind of money at a place, I expect to look great walking out of the place. I will say that people should see Nicki for color though. read more
