Stay away from these scam artists.They sent a flyer to my parents notifying them how their house is 65 years old, which in reality that is correct and that also makes a sewer lines old, which I agree. On a flyer that sent to them was an offer for unclogging the sewer line for just $93 and get a free sewer camera inspection included. My parent's home has had issues in the past with their main so they decided to take them up on their offer. My parents gave me a call at work because they don't speak good English and they couldn't understand what the plumber was telling them.I talked to him on the telephone and explained to him that the main sewer clean out was in the crawl space and the other info he needed.He gave me the excuse that he was a tall man and couldn't fit in the crawl space and would have to bring a number of equipment into the space.Now I am a building engineer and I know and have done a number of rod jobs and other plumbing issues over the years.He was telling me that the clean out should be above ground which agree but that is how the house was built.He was trying to up sell and he could of done the job but after reading a number of these reviews which the majority are negative it doesn't surprise me.In all fairness in the past I have rodded out a couple of their lines before the main.If you send out a flyer you should follow through and don't give excuses why you can't and try to up sell to an elderly couple. read more

Lost over $8,000 in a credit when buying a house due to negligence & awful customer service. We contacted J. Blanton for someone to come out and do our sewer scope during the inspection phase of buying a house. The man came and asked to see pictures or videos from our inspector. He looked at the pictures, said there wasn't anything he could do an that was it (the inspectors couldn't get too far in their scope due to roots). Ok, we thought, i guess he can't see any more. Eventually we bought the house & had J Blanton come out to clean out the sewer line. When the technician came out, he immediately came across weird grey sludge in the sewer line. This technician was incredibly helpful however, i learned during our discussion, that the original inspector who came during our inspection phase should have done this most basic look. If he had, we would have learned during that process that we needed to clean out and line the sewer line and would have passed this expense off to the sellers. I also learned that the original inspector had been let go from this job due to his performance. The next day more folks came out for the sewer line. Again, these technicians were great & informative. I learned from a completely different person that the original technician should have done the most basic look that, again, we would have been able to pass off to the sellers. Having a realistic discussion about this with management was nearly impossible. However, I learned at this time that the original technician checked off that he had actually completed his entire inspection, as opposed to simply looking at my phone. So it was confirmed he was supposed to do the work that would have saved us $8,000. The response I got was basically "womp womp" and took $250 off of the $8,000 bill. The only reason i put a star on this review is because all the other technicians were great. But i would never recommend the company, if something goes wrong, they will not care whatsoever. read more

They mis-diagnosed a sewage problem that I was having and charged me for a procedure that did not fix my issue. When I called (multiple times) and wrote emails- I NEVER received a response from any managers to discuss my issue and what had happened. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES We hired them to fix some routine faucet leaks. During their visit they sold us on installing a soft water filter for our house. During the sales process they NEVER disclosed how doing this could impact the existing plumbing in our house. After installation we've experienced a myriad of problems with clogged shower heads and faucets and leaky toilets. They have had to come back multiple times to address these issues. We are still having issues and they are proposing replacing all of the piping in our house to fix our continuously leaking toilets. Their quote for these repairs is $20k. So now we are in the position where we HAVE to replace our pipes for $20k while our toilets continue to leak and drive up our water bill until the pipe replacement occurs. If we were told this could be the result of the soft water installation, we never would have moved forward in the first place. At best, they have a terrible sales process. J Scamton quoted us $2,300 dollars to install a new kitchen faucet and kitchen drain/strainer install. J Scamton refused to give quotes over the phone which makes sense when you're charging an arm and a leg for simple service. Drain and Plumbing Services charged us $420 dollars for the exact same service. Do yourself a favor and avoid J Scamton as they are incredibly overpriced. Buy your wife/girlfriend or loved one some nice jewelry with the money you'll save by NOT using J Scamton!!!! I know J Scamton will standby their quality and they probably do have a great service. However, nothing justifies the price in which they are asking you to pay, especially for something as simple as installing a kitchen faucet. Quoting me $720 dollars for the labor of installing a new kitchen faucet is absolutely ridiculous. Installing a new faucet probably only takes about an hour so charging over $700 dollars an hour for labor is laughable. read more

I said no and went elsewhere with my business as I didn't appreciate the hard sell. Since then Blanton keeps calling about the money I "owe" them for the service agreement I never agreed to for service they never provided. It is very odd that J Blanton has 4.9 rating on Google but much worse on Yelp. I'll say that our experience was sadly not a positive one and I wish I had checked Yelp too. Read below for more. We had a pipe burst during winter that was 3 floors tall and cast iron. So, the job to repair it (which meant replacing it w/PVC pipe and some demo work, etc) was large and somewhat complex. Their job estimate was $8300 and 2-3 days to complete the work. It's too long of a story to describe here but the gist is they vastly underestimated the job; they broke our stack and then tried to charge us an addtl $1800 to fix it; I had to threaten to take them to small claims court in order for them to finish the original job at the cost they estimated; and I will not work with them again. Their communications are non-existent - we spoke with no less than 10 ppl at the company, the contractors don't seem to communicate with the central office so whatever we agreed to w/the central office was never communicated to the actual workers, and vice versa. Edwin was a big exception to our poor experience as he was a terrific plumber who did good work and provided objective advice. I'd steer clear of this company for any work that is complicated, and especially if you have an older home like we do. read more

J Blanton has done terrible by us. We had a project in Evanston for a new sewer. The job required a final inspection by the City of Evanston for the job to be complete. I remember telling them that I didn't want to pay for the job in full because I was concerned that they would disappear. They eventually pushed and promised to address any issues after we paid in full. We have been calling twice a day for a week to get someone to show up for final inspection and no one has been available. I'm not sure if they are a scam but my experience has shown that. read more

We recently used J. Blanton for a disposal repair. We were told it can't be repaired, it had to be replaced. The price was incredibly high. I paid it because I didn't get a quote. My bad. Got a quote at that time to replace two failing wall valves to a 1/4 turn valve for a toilets. I was told it would be more cost effective to do all the valves in the condo. One quote was around $800 for 2 valves or $1970 for all remaining 9 valves. We waited over a year to do the job because of the price. When we called back to ask if the quote was still good, they said no, that they needed another plumber to come out and look at it. So this young man showed up, he had such a bad attitude, asking us why he was there if we already had a quote, I immediately asked him to leave. He got the hint that he was being unprofessional and he straightened up real quick and offered to do the quote. Same quote came back to us. I wasn't comfortable with the price or the guy with the bad attitude. We checked another plumber our building uses. Glad I did! He just did the two failing valves for $275, FOR BOTH VALVES! It takes a ton to give anyone a 1 star rating. But J. Blanton Plumbing has done "more" to earn its wings (sorta speak) than most any business I have conducted with over the years. That said, I'll be kind & rate Blanton a star and a half, only because in the end it fixed a long-standing issue. That also said, the final results left something far to be desired, thus the one star rating. The final, final associations with Blanton were tasteless, childish & frankly, nonsensical. For a very long time we had intermittent problems with water leaking out of a corner of the bathtub in one of our bathrooms. The issue might continue a day or two before abruptly stopping. Then it might return a week or two or a couple months later, occasionally longer. Then the cycle would repeat itself over time. When occurring, the water puddles were small to modest & zigzagged across the bathroom floor in strange fashion. We first felt the condo association was responsible since the water came from inside the walls. But they balked so eventually we had Blanton out to check it out. An exact date cannot be recalled but it was somewhere between the fall of 2020 and the spring of 2021. I do not believe I had anyone else out at the time for an estimate but we had 4 Seasons & one other firm (whose name I can't recall) perform unrelated plumbing repairs & gave us their professional opinions at those times as to what these repairs might entail & guesstimated quotes to go with. When it finally came to getting it done (and the money to pay for it), we chose to let Blanton. In retrospect we would have not had them but concerns over having to pay for too many estimates (couldn't get a freebie at the time) had factored in how many plumbers we would have over time. The original quote we had I believe was somewhere between $600 & 800, a cost I thought was a bit high but fair, considering the need to have to cut thru the drywall around the shower faucet. However, the price was ultimately hiked to $1100 due to the need to go deep within the walls to find the source of the leak. While displeased, what further compounded problems with Blanton was at least one delay where the original plumber did not have the parts necessary to finish the job. A second delay was a couple days when the plumber did not show up to finish the job. We were patient in that we gave the OK for him to come during the evening hours when he did not appear for his 5 PM appointment. Blanton called to say the plumber would come sometime in the evening. So did the plumber himself, around 7:30. We said fine. But all evening, no one came. A few days later another Blanton worker finally came to finish the job started. From original visit to final repair, 11 days elapsed. To summarize, a visit, then a second visit, then the "absent-minded" Blanton bozo, then the actual fix. However, the fix did not mean to them a repatch or rework of the drywall removed to access the inner water lines (as we expected). All that was done was some sturdy plastic was placed around the faucet and secured with blue plumber's tape. It's appearance was not very professional looking (to say the least), plus within a year's time the tape was getting moldy, resulting in a family member experiencing nausea & breathing issues. I didn't know such tape would require short term placing but thankfully I had some silver plumbing tape in place which, to this day, is still in place. The nauseous problems soon ceased & that to this day. Fast forward to Friday June 9th when a Blanton employee named Kyle called my cell at 8:30 AM. No message was left. But I later replied by text, not recognizing the number offhand & asking what I could do for them. That was when Kyle responded by texting "This is J. Blanton Plumbing most likely following up with maintenance". I texted back, saying we had 4 Seasons over in April to repair a leaky toilet & we'd possibly consider Blanton again. Of course, I was only exaggerating. Now fast forward to Thursday June 22nd when Kyle called again, this time at 9:10 AM & still leaving no message. I erupted by text, ordering to be removed from Blanton's mailing list. Kyle's response was I was removed but "please consider using us in the future". You may think that was the end of it. I think most of us would. Well, you might be wrong. And you were. And so was I. But at 5:13 PM the next day, Friday, Blanton called again, leaving no message. I was done. I called to reach Kyle at 11 AM last Saturday but got Steve Blanton on the line instead. I told him if I wasn't forever gone from Blanton's list, that I'd possibly file suit for phone harassment. I asked if he got the message & he said he did. After clarifying who I was & my address, he didn't know what else to say after so after a few seconds I politely hung up on him. However, I was never really apologized to so you might say Blanton is on my you know what list. So don't go rantin' against Blanton but for all the right reasons, call 4 Seasons. read more

The pipes in our building are old, galvanized pipes and I know they are in bad shape. My overall goal is to get my new dishwaser installed but I need a plumber to turn off the an old, rusty dishwasher valve. I get that the Home Depot delivery guy didn't want to touch it as it is old and rust and probably needs to be replaced and doesn't want to break anything. . J Blanton sends out a rep who says he won't turn the valve as it is in bad shape and needs to be replaced. Mind you, I just want the water valve turned off so I can get the new diswasher connected. So before I give you numbers let me tell you Home Depot is charging me $149 to install new dishwasher and $50 to remove the old one. I get that I may need to repalce some valves...I get it. But here is what J Blanton tells me and the guy took 30 minutes to do the caluclations as follows. 1. Replace emergency shut of valve $655. 2. Replace water supply iine $557.02 3. Install 10 feet of copper water line $1,180.35 4. Evaluation service fee $330...what is an evaluation service fee??? 5. REPLACE THE DISHWASHER Home depot $149...Blanton $2,385.00. then there are little charges here and there and basically they want to charge $5,000 when my goal is to get my new dish washer installed. They are scam artists of the highest degree. $2,385.00 to install a dishwasher HILARIOUS!!!! read more

I needed to have two faucets repaired. They sent a guy who ended up giving me estimates totaling $5000. He broke one faucet and wanted to fix the other for more than the faucet cost new. He was so scattered. He said water was leaking and it isn't. He wanted to sign me up for a monthly "protection" plan. I did the math and told him it made no sense. What a dufuss. . Cahill did all the work quickly and professionally the next day, disagreeing with all the alarmist assessments the Blanton con man described. Wow what an experience. Tenants called about water backing up. called J Blanton... they had someone out very quickly. without any paperwork or contracts, just to take a look. expecting the 20-50 service fee. they callled and said the card wasn't running. so I gave them another card. they then charged the service fee to the original card, then an extra $500 to sit in his truck and write a quote for a $10k problem. then I was pressured into using financing at 13%. I ended up going another direction because it all felt off. working to get my $ back. read more

Do not hire as way overpriced. Had simple job of clearing out debris that was clogging where my downspout drained into pipe underground. I had already cleared area about 6 inches into ground and just needed someone to rod further to break through clogged area. Two men arrived after dark as they were running late. Was told that the pipe was draining into sewer line in front of house and that the whole line would have to be rodded. The charge would be $758. Told the estimator that that was outrageous. He then said it would be $558 without a one year guarantee. I also said that that price was outrageous. Finally agreed as I was not sure how much work was involved. Told I had to sign an acceptance on a device which I couldn't really read because of small print and it being dark outside. The clogged area was cleared in less than 10 minutes after the electric rodder was plugged into an outlet in my house. I again complained that $558 was way too much for less than 15 minutes total for work. Told I had to sign that work was completed even though could not really read what I was asked to sign. Was also told I had to pay before the workers left and call the office to get a receipt and copy of what I had signed. When I called office right after the workers left to complain about price was told supervisor would get back to me. Called the next day and this time told supervisor was in meeting and asked for them to call me back. Of course no response. Received copy of billing statement which describes work as Band-Aid-PA2A Waste System Rejuvenation. Not sure what that means and how it relates to work done which basically was clearing clogged area from downspout in ground drain. In more than 45 years of home ownership I have never encountered such a situation. Charging $558 for less than 15 minutes of work by one man for simple rodding job is beyond outrageous. read more

I signed up for their no-drip club because of their ease of scheduling and customer service but unfortunately, all the quotes they gave us were exorbitant. For example, they have suggested for water heater replacement. the quote they provided was $2333.00 and the warranty was only for 6 years. I requested a quote from Home Depot, and they quoted me a Rheem unit with a 12-year warranty and a hassle-free installation for $2019. If I scheduled a service with them they would offer me an additional $100 discount. Which comes to $1900.00. I received a second quote to replace two valves and they said it is going to cost $1600.00 I received a third quote for my other house to unclog the bathtub drain. Just to snake it they gave a quote for $330.00. TR Miller drain company said they can do it for $84. It is a 15-minute job. I am yet to book them but the pricing has been too high. Discovered the problem moments before plumber (Justin or Jason?) arrived. Plastic tubing from my fridge ice maker sprung a leak just above floor boards before the tubing proceeded down to basement to connect to water valve. Was immediately told entire valve needed replacement assuming he would not be able to unscrew the nut without even trying first. Then was told cost to replace plastic tubing with copper tubing was $1,496 for the job. When I said I can't afford $1500 copper tubing and asked if we couldn't just replace it with the same plastic tubing, he told me they don't carry plastic. (BTW 15 feet of copper tubing only costs $36 at the hardware store). He then proceeded to ask me how much I thought I should pay. Odd, right? When I said closer to $200, he laughed, turned around and walked out without so much as an explanation or a "thank you for calling J Blanton." I called my local hardware store and the helpful clerk explained how easy this was to fix. I spent literally less than $5 on a coupling and fixed the leak in under 5 mins by myself with nothing but a pair of scissors. Had the plumber explained this to me, I would be calling them in the future to replace my toilet that needs replacing, but I WILL NEVER CALL J.BLANTON AGAIN. No one wants to be taken advantage of and this plumber tried to pull a fast one. What a rude jerk! read more

Don't use these guys unless you want to listen to upsell pitches like you're at a car dealership, and pay WAY more than you need to. I had used these guys several years ago, and they were great, bailing us out after someone else's botched water heater installation. However, things seem to have gone downhill. Last month, I hired them to do 2 things: (1) fix the clogged kitchen sink, and (2) rod the slow-draining bathtub. They fixed the kitchen sink just fine. However, for the bathtub, they said they couldn't fix it because some piece was broken off which blocked their equipment, so it would cost me several thousand dollars to replace all the piping in back of the tub. Well, I got a second opinion from another plumber, and he was able to rod the bathtub for $150, no replacement pipes needed, and nowhere near the several thou Blanton wanted. Meanwhile Blanton had cut 2 giant holes in my drywall behind the tub, to "diagnose the issue," and they scratched my floor moving furniture to cut the hole. So now I'm out $3,500 to Blanton for the kitchen sink fix, PLUS the cost to fix my drywall and floor. I reached out to Blanton twice to discuss this; they have not responded in nearly a month. This company completely took advantage of me because I'm female. They overcharged me by double just to do a simple basin clean out, and then gave me a crazy estimate to fix a broken pipe. Their idea to fix this broken pipe was to reroute and repipe and do a bunch of unnecessary work, rather than just addressing fixing the pipe. Luckily I got a second opinion and went with Goode Plumbing which I highly recommend instead! Shame on J Blanton for overcharging me and then trying to take even more advantage. I also tried to bring up my concerns with the owner, and was met with NASTY emails from someone else at their company. Not even sure who it was but ummm ever hear of customer service? Oh! They sent a man over who explained they could repair a washer anywhere from an $800 package to $1800. I picked the middle package and gave them a $500 deposit. Before they came to fix said washer I told my boyfriend about all that had transpired. He told me to go to Home Depot and buy a pair of channel locks and some washers. JBLANTON DEPOSIT AND NO WORK: $500.00 CHANNEL LOCKS, WASHER, PLUMBING TAPE AT HOME DEPOT : $37.85 I was completely ripped off and feel it was most likely due to the fact I'm female. AVOID. We hired this company after our first project with them seemed on the up and up. However, this time was a totally different experience. Plumber came to our house for a water pressure issue and told me we needed to replace one faucet in addition to cleaning out the aerator in a second faucet. I agreed and paid over $600 for the new faucet plus installation. When he returned with the faucet a week later to install, he tried to charge us another almost $400 for something he never mentioned in his first visit/estimate! He was unprofessional and flippant when we asked how a $400 additional problem could have been missed in his original estimate given that it was on-site. We felt we were in the midst of some kind of shake down and asked him to leave without installing the faucet. I've called the company numerous times to get a refund for the installation (should be a minimum of $220 coming back to me) and despite being promised a call back, still don't have one. Ridiculous. Not only will I never hire this company again, I'll make sure I use every platform I have to let people know they're a rip off and to avoid them. read more

We scheduled an appointment on Saturday for a kitchen sink/garbage disposal repair. We wasted an entire Saturday afternoon waiting for them within their 3 hour windown, and then got a call at 4:00 saying they could not make it and would accommodate us first thing Sunday morning. Sunday morning, no one showed up and when I called them, they said they had driven by and it looked like no one was home, so they left. And I would need to reschedule. We were all home, and I will be rescheduling with someone else. read more

Where to start! I woke up this morning to my toilet aggressively over flowing into my apartment and bedroom. I tried fixing but made issue worse. My apartment was beginning to look like a fish bowl. Minus the fish and pebbles. As a kid, I always wished for a flood because I thought it'd be cool to be able to go swimming in your house. My childhood dream almost came true until JBlanton plumbing arrived. A young gentleman by the name of "Dooley" short for Kyle Dooley (I guess) came a knocking. I felt like Maucauley Culkin in Home Alone when his parents finally returned home. All in all, from time of call to arrival was 20 minutes. He fixed my toilet, gave me a couple different options to choose from, and we settled on fair price. Honestly I wanted to pay more.
