The decor is not good, yet suiting. Very clean though. Horribly smokey due to it being connected to a yucky casino. I was very reluctant to go here and have to say I did not wish to dine in again, although the service was delightful! The 4 stars is due to the food quality. Never tried frybread before, but if a person told me this was bad, I would have to require said person to produce some that's better and would propose to them if it was. Ribeye was cooked to order med/rare and awesome! Burgers are the best I've had and I'm not a burger fan due to the fact nobody can make a good one. The garlic fries were heavenly with piles of fresh garlic!! The employees can best be described as sweet and oh so accommodating. Super good for Fallon. I would only take it out. Good food, good service. Thought we would try somewhere new while in Fallon instead of the standard fast food. Had the Sierra burger, it was huge. Very good. My husband had the Mushroom burger, again huge. Was not disappointed. My only negative was the filtration system since it is connected to a casino, the smoke for me was bad. Just breathed through my mouth. But it wasn't as bad as walking into the first set of doors at the Silverado in Fernley. 4 for food and service and 2.5 for the smoke. read more

Stopped while spending the night in the small town of Fallon. Really a nice place. Had the pepperoni lasagna and it was like homemade. Wife had the pork chops and they were good-not overdone. They offer senior portions which were just the right size but not skimpy. Waitress was friendly and good at her job. The only downside is it is connected to a casino and the smoke does permeate the restaurant. read more

I did not have the same experience with the smoke as other reviewers. Although, our dining experience was mediocre at best. My husband had the ribeye and it was only a half inch thick! I had the blue cheese sirloin and it was nothing to write home about. I would have given this place three stars if it weren't for the waitress who forgot my husband's drink twice. Had one of my top two eggs Benedict of my life here. But then had it another time and it wasn't as good. Apparently they have it made out now and brought in, for consistency, personally I would have asked which cook was making it so AWESOME and offered eggs Benedict only on the days that the cook who knew his stuff was working, as a special. read more

I would have given JD Slinger's a 5* if it was not for the smoke smell coming from the adjoining casino. It would be a good idea to put some double doors up to separate the casino and resteraunt. Ok....Now....The food is great and the service is fantastic. Last week we ate there 4x because of how good it is. They serve great dinner's with delicious fry bread as a appitizer. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday they serve delicious breakfasts. The bacon is the best in Fallon (try the bacon pancakes). And the nicest thing of all is this is the only place I know where kids eat free all day long on Saturday's and Sunday. 2 kids can eat free with each paying adult. How many good restraunts do you know where kids eat free on the weekends. read more

They say ex-smokers are the worst and I am an ex-smoker. You could definitely smell the cigarette smoke but it wasn't enough to turn me off. The service was on par (no birdies or eagles but almost a bogey) after they realized I was there. The sign said seat yourself, so I did. I did wait 5 minutes before they saw me...another 5 minutes and it would have been a bogey. The steak more than made up for it. I had the ribeye and it was done perfectly. The seasoning was simple and subtle allowing the true flavor of the beef to come out. The sides were....well, sides. Was disappointed. First time was good but second time was horrible. Waitress was friendly but didn't know how to take an order. She didn't refresh our drinks. And we waited over an hour for our simple food of eggs and hash browns. Her excuse was the kitchen was backed up. (There was only 2 other people in the restaurant, n they haven't even ordered yet.) We have eaten here 3 times so far and each time hasn't disappointed yet. My daughter loves steak, so usually she has to order off the adult menu which is pretty pricey, however this place has a steak on the kids menu at a great price! The food is great, although the garlic fries has a little too much garlic for my taste. The grilled cheese is awesome. The waitresses are all friendly and provide excellent service. Wow!!! Where to begin. This was probably one of the best meals I've had. Not only was the service amazing the food was the best in Fallon. We were a group of 7 Marines who came in for a good meal and left speechless and taken care of. Thank you to who ever paid for our meal tonight. You have no idea how much your kind act meant to all of us. Tears were shed in the car back to base. It's not often that big acts of kindness happen but tonight was one for the books. Just got back from my dinner at J D Slinger's and I must say WOW! That was probably the best steak I've enjoyed in quite some time. My wife and I weren't expecting much, but we were impressed from the moment we sat down. We started with coffee - which wasn't for the faint-of-heart being as strong as it was (good in my book) - and an order of fried onion nuggets. We were hoping to try the spicy jalapeno artichoke dip, but they were unfortunately sold out. The onion nuggets were good, and the dipping sauce complimented them perfectly. Nothing to go crazy over, but good nonetheless. For the entree, I ordered the whiskey glaze sirloin with garlic fries and cowboy beans, while my wife had the ribeye with garlic fries and side salad. The side salad was your typical restaurant fare, nothing to rave about. The garlic fries were top-notch however. Thick cut, not overly seasoned, and just the right amount of crisp. The cowboy beans were excellent as well. They reminded me of how grandma used to make them, just a little more bland that I'm used to. The home cooked taste really hit the spot though. Now, the stars of the show were most definitely the steaks, starting with the whiskey glaze sirloin, cooked medium. The cut given to me was 8 oz if I'm not mistaken, and it showed up piled with fried onions, grilled mushrooms, and a delicious whiskey glaze. The steak was juicy and cooked absolutely perfectly. My first bite was rewarded with an outstanding flavor, and a nice kick from the whiskey glaze. The glaze was a little on the sweet side, but it wasn't overpowering. Definitely something I'd order again. My wife had the 10 oz ribeye, cooked medium as well. Her's was also cooked perfectly, and it was so tender and juicy that it practically melted in my mouth. The flavor absolutely came alive in the two bites that I got to try. To finish off the night, we had the apple cobbler which was warm, gooey and delicious. We decided to forego the vanilla ice cream and just had whipped cream on ours to share. All in all, we had an excellent experience from start to finish. The portions were just right, reasonable pricing, and outstanding food. We'd recommend J D Slinger's to anybody, any day and will definitely be returning ourselves. Last but not least, a huge shout out to the staff there who were outstandingly courteous and attentive, given that we ended up keeping them open 45 minutes past closing, unbeknownst to us at first. Right next to the hotel which is why we chose it. Service was horrible. We were told to sit anywhere and then ignored for 10-15 minutes. I asked for water from someone walking by and she said she would get it, then never showed back up. Finally got menus and then ignored again for 10 more minutes. We were just about ready to get up and leave, when they took our order. Another long wait. It was after 8pm so not rush dinner hour. When our food arrived, my burger was burnt on one side, the chicken fried steak was dry and unappetising looking. We ordered two beers and they arrived when we were nearly finished with dinner. We tried this restaurant when it first opened and was not impressed. Tried again yesterday, and found it was "2 for Tuesday," which is what we selected. (After our last experience, I didn't want to risk investing in the rib-eye). I got the 6oz sirloin with gravy doused mashed potatoes and an overcooked piece of sweet corn. It was all salty. My wife ordered the pasty with salad. The pasty was so over-peppered that it was inedible, and the salad didn't show up. When we told the waiter about the pasty, she kindly brought a "to go" salad. My girlfriend and I passed through Fallon and stopped here as it seemed to be one of the few places open on a Sunday at 5. We were immediately greeted when we came in the door, and allowed to pick our own seat which was a refreshing change of pace. The waitress was very very friendly, and the food arrived within about 10 minutes. The burger I ordered (the Sierra) was huge! It was absolutely delicious, and I could not finish. My girlfriend ordered the steak kabobs and loved them as well. I recommend this place to anyone driving by as we were in and out within 45 minutes. read more
