This is a great place to stop by for a meal. We stopped here for a late lunch. The staff was very friendly and sat us right away. I had the breakfast quesadilla which was really good. They were served with hash browns. Everyone else got lunch items and they were pleased. I also liked that they had beer and wine. I had the Orono Blueberry ale. The atmosphere is fairly laid back and they do have outdoor seating. read more

Winter Harbor is pretty tiny, so there aren't a lot of options (especially on Sunday, when I dropped by)--but this is the perfect place to grab breakfast or brunch, or a sandwich or cup of chowdah (which is what I had, needing just quick bite). Great place but the last two times I've come you have been sold out of lobster. If you're looking for lobster make sure you call in advance.

I was recommended by a local to come to Gerrish provisions as Schoodic Point has limited restaurants and some of them are closed for the fall/winter season. We ordered Admiral Ben, Lobster Quesadillas, Reuben, Steak and Cheese, and Clam Chowder. The food comes in huge portions. Their clam chowder had a lot of clams and great texture without being too dense with the potatoes and flour. The Admiral Ben had a lot of smoked salmon and a huge bagel. The lobster quesadilla was lobster meat with tortilla so nothing special. The Reuben sandwich was good with their sauerkraut that's not too pungent on vinegar. The steak and cheese was okay; the sirloin could use more seasoning. At the end, we ordered blueberry pie to share which the filling of the pie was amazing; wish the crust was a bit more crispy. read more

I can only rate breakfast. On our last morning in town, we had one gluten free breakfast and one regular. Both were tasty and very filling. The friendly staff and good old-time, small-town America atmosphere bumped the rating up to five. We loved it. read more

Such a wonderful find in tiny Winter Harbor. The wait staff were so friendly and great with our kids. They brought them animal crackers to tide them over until our food came, and there was a great kids menu. My wife and I both really enjoyed our sandwiches, and we were all happy to discover they sold ice cream at the end of our meal. Also, it was so nice to sit out on the front patio and watch as people enjoyed the town. Next time we're here, I know we'll be back! read more

Went to J M Gerrish Cafe for breakfast this morning and it was such a delicious surprise. They have taken comfort food and made it fresh, healthy and delicious! I had a fresh veggie omelet, crispy light and non-greasy hash browns, perfectly crispy bacon, and a fresh english muffin toasted perfectly. Their iced coffee with multiple fun flavor choices, was delicious as well as robust. The staff were attentive and very friendly. Christina was our server and she was very sweet and made sure we were good. My compliments to the chefs for delicious food and timely service. If you want a cozy feels like your family restaurant, then I highly recommend. I will be going back soon to try what I have heard is an amazing Reuben. We were visiting the Schoodic Peninsula in the morning and stopped for lunch afterwards on our way to the airport. This had good reviews, so we thought we'd give it a try. The meals were all wonderful, great service, and we enjoyed the blueberry pie for dessert (with the blueberry ice cream). All-in-all a perfect place to finish our trip to Maine. In addition, my wife left her wallet behind and the staff went out of their way to mail it back to us. It was incredibly kind, and we appreciate their virtue. Great place, terrific people. This place is pretty great! They're in the perfect location with parking nearby. They food was delicious and quickly came to our table. The only reason I didn't rate them five stars is because the servers aren't super warm, but we could have also come on a bad day. We took the ferry over from Bar Harbor and took the free "explorer" bus tour around the Schoodic Loop. The weather wasn't great or we would have hiked a bit through the park. It was gorgeous scenery! We went to Winter harbor because we heard it was a cute little town with shopS and restaurantS! Lol. Good marketing! Anyway, Gerrish was the only restaurant we saw and we sat on the big front porch until it got too cold. The clam chowder was really good. The naked lobster roll had a lot of meat but I wish the butter served in a to-go cup had been warmed up. Don enjoyed his grilled chicken quesadilla. The guac served with it was very good. I saw someone's chef salad and it was in an enormous bowl covered with cold cuts and cheese. But the best part of the meal was the warmed blueberry pie and the super Alfred's Tracks ice cream (isn't it called Moose Tracks in other places?!). The servers were very busy but as friendly and competent as could be. A very nice spot to stop if you find yourself in this remote location! read more

The baked goods are absolutely terrific! I had the Admiral and my belly was so happy. The everything bagel was fresh, doughy and delicious. The orange cranberry muffin left my mouth craving more. The lattes and coffee were strong and tasty. I went back twice in my stay. Didn't want to try anywhere else ( why mess with the magic). Even got pastries for the road. Breakfast was so good I ate here twice! Everything was delicious! The chocolate chip pancakes were amazing- they tasted like chocolate chip cookies. The cinnamon bun was the best I have ever had! J M Gerrish in Winter Harbor is a gem. Situated on the main street that runs through the town, it is a lovely little cafe' that "hits" on all the things that you want from a small town place. Serving breakfast and lunch, it has terrific food that is simple but so satisfying. The ingredients are always fresh no matter what you order. For breakfast, whether pancakes or omelettes, the plates come out steaming hot with along with hot coffee and fresh juice. I recently had blueberry pancakes and local sausage on 2 different mornings; food knocked my socks off both times. Another morning, I had the corned beef hash with a poached egg for breakfast - it was perfect. For lunch, there are a variety of dishes, sandwiches, wraps, hamburgers, salads, etc. I had a hot pastrami on rye sandwich for lunch; it was as good as what the most famous New York delis offer. Most of the cooking is done by the restaurant owner, L.J., who is a 30-something man; but he is an experienced restaurant cook. He creates the daily menu and it is always very inviting. L.J. is a friendly guy who comes out to greet patrons. The staff who works there is very friendly too. When you go there on a sunny, crisp morning or afternoon, try to sit on the front porch and just look at the scene with the general store across the road and the rare car or truck slowly cruising by - it's so relaxing. One sunny morning, we were sitting on the front porch having breakfast. My wife said to me, "Is this heaven?" And, channeling "Field of Dreams", I said back, "No, it's Maine". We stumbled upon this quaint cafe in the heart of Winter Harbor. The service was outstanding. Our server had spot on recommendations. Our family ordered a variety of items. The pancake stack was huge and fluffy. The egg sandwich was good. The bacon was perfectly crispy. The burger was exactly what you would expect in a burger. The side salad was fresh. I had the schoodic salad which had field greens, strawberries, grapes and goat cheese. The balsamic vinaigrette was a nice compliment. You won't find any fried foods on the menu. I ended my meal with a delicious serving of blueberry crisp with a side of vanilla ice cream. Prices were very reasonable. We stopped in here for an afternoon ice cream. Nothing special from the ice cream point of view - classic Giffords and not too many flavors. However, the service here was great and for that they get 4 stars overall. Parking is very limited by there is a handicapped space near the ramp. However, there is a step down to get to the front patio from the inside which is where the ramp takes you. Manager/owner was very accommodating, pleasant, and helpful. Patrons are snobby, lunching moms and their teenage kids. One kid asked his mom how much to tip. His mom replied, "One dollar is enough. You know, it's like a bartender." Hmmmm. read more

JM Garrish is a combination bakery, seafood restaurant, and coffee house and it get's all of those things right. We have eaten here twice now and both times have been a delight. The crab eggs benedict is perhaps the best that I have had (and I love eggs benedict). The english muffin was freshly baked onsite, and the Hollandaise sauce was prepared by hand for each order. Top it off with crab and a carefully grilled egg and you have a treat which is worth going out of your way for. We also ate dinner here and the Grilled Salmon with Mango salsa was delightful and my wife very much enjoyed her crab cake entree. The service was excellent, Andy was our server both times and he was knowledgeable, attentive, and very polite. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed with almost an art gallery/coffee house vibe but with the relaxed "down east" feel that is great about this part of Maine. For those who spend most of their time in the Bar Harbor scene, it is well worth the drive around to Schoodic and Winter Harbor. If you're looking for a place to eat (especially if you're tired of fried seafood) this place tops our list for the Acadia/Schoodic area. Nice little cafe near the Schoodic section of Acadia. We came for quick sandwiches (chicken salad and a cheeseburger) before our day hike. We came here for breakfast twice while staying on the peninsula. Both times it was great. Great food and great service. They also treated our dog like a VIP and gave him a big scoop of ice cream (Giffords), which was a nice surprise. I didn't know they did that. I got the potato cup, delicious!! My husband got the blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon. He thought the pancakes were a little tough but the generous blueberries made up for it. He also said the bacon was very good bacon. The second time I ordered the Admiral's smoked salmon on a bagel. So the bagel is not the NY quality I'm used to but it was fine. The salmon was delicious (from Grindstone). Great ambiance and friendly service. I would have eaten breakfast ever day we were in Winter Harbor but we trying to eat in a few days. I would definitely recommend JM Gerrish. read more

This place is so good. Whenever I'm at my grandparents house, I always look forward to going here. I love the Giffords Ice cream parlor (You have to try the flying fish ice cream). The food is casual but great. My mom loves the main street salad (Trust her It's great.) The club sandwich is good and the turkey sandwich is good the eggs are exquisite! There are so many ways to get them. The environment is very nice and quaint. It feels old fashioned. The location is in the heart of downtown Winter Harbor. A small restaurant with young servers. The meals were not typical Down-East fare. The menu was a basic pub food menu. The walls were adorned with photographs of local people and tourists. The photos look around 40 or 50 years old. Very interesting. Our servers were very nice, they were trying very hard, but they were high school kids. If you visit, keep that in mind and you will not be disappointed. I really did not notice anything on the menu that stuck out as extraordinary. Quaint little cafe in the heart of Winter Harbor! It is a pleasant little place with outstanding sandwiches. It serves breakfast from open to close! I had the Reuben sandwich which was quite unique, in a good way I might add! It was a little bit of a different take on a classic sandwich. The meat rather than being shaved was chunked and I feel that that really was great! My wife had the lunch special for the day (Sunday) that consisted of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. It was also a great take on a classic being piled high with cheese and was full of melty goodness with a buttery, crispy grilled outside. The service was great as well. This place is a gem in the sleepy town of Winter Harbor, where great food can otherwise be a bit of a rare commodity! My boyfriend and I had breakfast here 3 times while staying near Schoodic Point, so we tried a variety of things: chocolate chip pancakes, waffles, eggs, sausage, breakfast potatoes, smoked salmon. Our orders were a little mixed up a couple of times but even that didn't detract from the experience. Each meal was equally delicious, and the friendly and attentive servers made our breakfasts all the more enjoyable. This place has a large front porch with 5 or 6 tables where we were able to sit with our Labrador Retriever. They even provide a water bowl for dogs. By far one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! I had the French toast, sausage links and hashbrowns and every bit of it was delicious. The service was fantastic and very friendly. I was feeling a little homesick for my normal Starbucks orders so when I saw that they could do a chai latte and add a couple of shots of espresso to it, they admitted that they hadn't done it before but they would give it a try. It was fantastic! I really appreciated their flexibility, they were very kind and accommodating and they did not treat me like a city girl tourist. Cute little place with adorable old school (but newly renovated) retro ice cream counter complete with stools and a soda fountain. I remember coming here when I was a child for penny candy. Everything here is decent but don't order a breakfast samwich on a "freshly baked" croissant or it will come out a doughy, gummy, underbaked inedible mess. Unsweetened ice tea is weak and watery.
