I also received the digital copy at the same time, which was very convenient. He is also incredibly precise. His eyes are basically lasers and can measure things down to the millimeter. He'll tell you exactly how to tilt your head so everything is centered. My mouth usually tilts to the right if I'm not paying attention, and he helped me adjust. Booking online is super easy, and when you check in it's a simple straightforward form to confirm what you need. A mirror with plenty of grooming essentials like hair ties, hair spray, etc was very appreciated! I made an appointment on their website for the same afternoon and walked in to find a smooth process with customers checking in, getting their photos taken, etc. When it was my turn, the photographer noticed my light shirt would not do well for passport photos and showed me to his small closet of dark cardigans, jackets, or sweaters to cover up. He then sat me down and positioned me accordingly. (I was sad I couldn't smile, haha, but I understand why it's no longer allowed for identification purposes). And after 8 clicks, he showed me to the large screen monitor to select among the 8 photos he took. I chose the last one, and within an hour, my digital copy was emailed to me. I submitted my U.S. passport renewal application online that night, added my digital photo, and got my new passport in the mail in like 3 weeks! What does this say? It says JPhoto is super legit. J Photo is your quick, easy and professional passport photo service provider in the Bay Area. They're easy to make appointments with. You simply go on their website and pick a time slot (usually 10 minutes each). The studio is located in the corner next to Tous le Jours bakery. There are ample parkings around the area and right in front of the studio. The owner is nice and will tell you exactly what you need to do like wearing darker jacket (he has spared jackets on-site for you to borrow if needed) and whether you need to smile or turn one way or the other. The studio itself is clean and looks professional with different lighting equipments. The photographer will take 5 shots total and you'll get to review them on the big screen and pick the one you like the best. You then pay ($30 for 4 copies and is very reasonably priced to me) and will be told to come back in 10-15 minutes to pick up your photos. It was faster and only took 8 minutes for me. The photos came out nicely, crisp, clear and looking like me. Overall, a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend J photo for all your photo needs. read more

Horrible experience. If I could give this ridiculously expensive photo shoot zero stars, I would. This guy never tells you how much he's going to charge. I think he considers himself some kind of Hollywood photographer -- his rates are insanely high. And then comes the story about how he charges extra for kids. Nothing is clear except the rushing and the disgusting attitude, like you're some alien who's never seen a photographer or a camera before. I brought my kids today. I only needed one photo of each. Not only does he charge extra and force you to buy two of each (because apparently the price for one is the same for some reason), but he also charges extra $20 per digital version. And somehow, he "adjusts" the price to $10 each for digital version after you speak out. Paid $60 for 4 photos and no digital version!!! Beware and never visit this place. read more

The process for getting your passport photo taken was super easy! I reserved a time slot online to ensure that I could be seen right away after work and came a bit early to sign into kiosk up front (just a simple form indicating what you're there for, contact info and how many prints you'd like). Before being seen, I took a few minutes at the mirror station to make sure that I fixed my hair and makeup. The great thing is that there's hair spray and other necessities needed to ensure you're looking your best for your photo! When I got my photo taken, I was swiftly directed on how to pose and after a few shots I realized that my hair parting was a bit off but the photographer/attendant let me retake my photo which was nice because my experience at other places were more of a one & done. Being a suuuuper picky person when it comes to photos, I was really appreciative of the willingness of the representative to help me be confident in the photo before moving onto the printing process :'). After the photo was taken, I was taken behind the computer station to look at all the photos on a wide span view so that I could make a proper decision on which one I wanted printed. 10 minutes of retouching later and I gave the final OK of the photo comparing the before and after shots. Just like that I was in and out with my passport photos and couldn't be happier with the results :)! read more

I am currently in the process of trying to get my toddler a passport. Being absolutely clueless to the entire process and the long list of things needed, I reached out to family about some recommendations. A majority of responses was for me to hit up my local CVS, Walgreens, or UPS. Due to the reviews not being so great at those locations I searched through Yelp for potential spots that were more promising. In comes J Photo Center. At 4.5 stars and over 250 reviews- I knew this would be the go-to spot for my non cooperative, feisty little monster. No appointment was made or needed. I showed up and informed the gentleman that I was in need of passport photos taken for my toddler. He directed me over to the costs and added that there was an additional fee for kids. I agreed and was immediately ushered over to the set up behind me. The photo sesh took MINUTES and I was honestly worried about the image possibly being too rushed. The gentleman said he would be fine to work with whatever shots he received and instructed me to pay. I wish the photos were offered for viewing but I kind of just went with it and crossed my fingers since he lightweight seemed rush-y. Payment is to be made directly after the photos are taken and I was told there would be a notification provided when my order was ready for pick up. A 15 minute estimate was the timeframe he needed to process the job and he wasn't kidding. This business works at LIGHTNING SPEEDS. 4 stars when it came to my experience. Photos came out great & I am most definitely happy with the outcome. Things could be a little less of a hurry and it wouldn't hurt to be a little more personable but whatever. Bonus points for JPC's offering of reprinting services. Images will be available for an entire year under the name you used at the initial setup. read more

We've been coming here for over a decade and always had a great experience with the older gentleman (probably in his 60s or 70s). He was respectful, calm, and knowledgeable about passport/visa photo requirements. However, today his son was there, and the experience was completely different. He seemed irritated from the start, kept commenting in his local language to his friend, and was impatient throughout. He asked me to remove a tiny hair clip even after I explained it was keeping my hair off my face, then did the same with my 3-year-old's hair tie and even yelled at her for smiling, saying her passport would be rejected. It was disappointing and upsetting; very unpleasant overall. After years of loyalty, we won't be returning. Don't recommend this place anymore. read more

He said, "Yes, I printed extra you can keep." I didn't ask for extras, so I replied with, "Does that mean the total amount is half because I only ordered 4 prints?" He said, "No 4 prints is $70." HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME 4 PRINTS IS $70 WHEN I GOT THE SAME EXTACT AMOUNT FROM ANOTHER PRINT SHOP DOWN THE STREET FOR HALF PRICE?!?! Please go support Minuteman Press because they have better quality and service for half the price!! Located nearby too! Anyways, long story short.... this was a test run for me because I was going to order 60+ copies. The prints came out blurry and the edges were not even clean. I came here to get passport photos taken and I was very impressed by the service! I walked in around noon on a Saturday, got my pictures taken within 15 minutes, and they texted me an hour later letting me know the pictures were ready to pickup. The total came out to $25 + tax for 2 photos, but I was so impressed by the quality that I came back the next day and bought a digital copy which was an extra $10 (technically a digital reprint is $15 but because 2 photos + digital is $35, and I had just been there the previous day, the owner was really nice and only charged me $10 which is equivalent to the bundle price). When you arrive there's an electronic form for you to fill out, and you input your contact information and what style photos you want (they had options ranging from 2x2's for passports/visas to portraits). The interior is super nice, clean, and spacious, and they even have a station with a mirror for you to touch up before you get your photos taken. The photographer was really great at directing my positioning for the camera, and he even shows you the photos and lets you select your favorite before printing them. He also let me retake them when I wasn't entirely satisfied with the first take (my shirt was a bit crooked so I wanted to take one more). This was the worst photo printing experience I've ever had in the Bay Area. I first sent my files online to ask if they could print additional copies. The owner made a slight adjustment to my shoulder angle and claimed it was necessary to meet passport photo standards. Then, they charged me $25 for two reprinted photos--despite the fact that I never took a new photo, only requested reprints. They essentially scammed me by charging me for a photography service I never received. It's shocking how this business has such high ratings when they're clearly deceiving customers. I hope more people speak up so that others don't fall victim to their dishonest practices. This place should be reported. read more

Been coming for years for passport photos. Location has changed and owner has changed I think. Used to be an older gentleman and photos were given almost instant. They have a kiosk now for you to make your order then to take your photo. I had my one year old for his passport. Very kind and polite. They had me sit with him on my lap with his back towards the backdrop and I'm at a 90 degree angle of the backdrop. Worked berry well as he was either memorized, curious, or scared of the camera. He just stared at it dead eye with no smile which is what the passport people want! I didn't have to pay the additional fee for children under a certain age since he did so well! read more

He boasted about his work, claiming he had done well with other countries' ID photos. However, he was unable to produce a qualified ID photo (provided size and the requirements)--the picture turned out blurry and over-edited, almost like a filtered image. When I asked for the original photo, he refused to provide it after the photo failed to be used for the ID, unless I took another one and paid another $30 dollars . I paid $30 and got nothing and eventually had to ask my friend to take an ID photo for me. He was also impatient with me, while treating other male customers much more nicely. It says no appointment online so we decided to come 15 mins early before the shop opens at 3:30 since I also had work at 4. Yet a Korean family comes 10 mins later saying that they have a reservation for a family photo and the owner let them in. We were honestly quite confused since online it says "no online appointments." I just needed to take a quick photo for my pass port which didn't even have to be pretty and we even told him about his "no appointment" statement online and abt my work yet he was like "come back at 4" with his head down drown in shame. With no argument. My mom and I decide to leave since that family photo shoot will defiantly not end in less than 30 minutes.
