While at a fundraiser for Diabetes - I won tickets to JR's Comedy Club in Valencia... I had never heard of comedy in valencia - but was totally excited to check it out! I organized a large group of girlfriends for a night of laughter and made my reservation online. (comedyinvalencia.com) The site was informative and easy to use, and you receive a confirmation email immediately. I actually had to phone in the day of to add to my reservation (our number grew from 4 to 8 last minute when they heard where we were going!) - left a message on the voicemail system and received a confirmation call back that everything was fine. The organizers were very friendly and helpful. We arrived at the bar located inside Marie Callendars at 830, decided against the dinner and a show option - and opted for appetizers (the dinner menu was limited to the dinner and a show menu, but the appetizers, desserts and drink menu from MC's was available with a full bar at your disposal ) There was a two item minimum - on top of your $12 entrance fee, but it was easily fulfilled. Several of the girls opted for margaritas, both strawberry and regular, and said they were quite tasty. Of the appetizers ordered - I loved the fried green beans and the potato skins - YUMMY! We also ordered a dessert which was more than enough to share - the brownie sundae which had cookies, brownies, caramel and hot fudge all wrapped inside! (It was SOOO bad for the wasteline - but Marie Callendars doesnt disappoint a sweet tooth!) On to the comedy! The introducer is fun - the intro/outro music is kinda cheesy, but definitely cause for conversation! There was a headliner, a featured guest, and 2 additional comedians. The comedians all had very different sets - all amusing and memorable. We laughed out loud - and at some points laughed until we cried. The headliner the night that I went was Lori Kill Martin - Very funny - and utilized alot of audience participation. Final Note - the food is good, the comedy memorable, and the atmosphere - well one of the comediennes said it looked like a bomb-shelter, haha... (It certainly wasnt that bad just a little dark.) Overall it was a fun night with lots of laughter! We will definitely be returning to JR's Comedy Club! read more

Jr's is another hidden gem in THE SCV! I'm writing this review strictly on the comedy club, that is inside of Marie Calendars, and not on Marie Calendars. I must say, if I included Marie Calendars in this review, they definitely wouldn't be getting 5 stars out of me! Marie Calendars and the service they provide inside the club is horrible and very disappointing! But, as far as comedy in Santa Clarita, Jr's is a riot! Everytime I go, I laugh so hard my face hurts! The fact that we can stay in town and catch a great show at a very reasonable price, is worth all the stars in the world to me! The owners of the club are very personable and definitely accommodating. They've been running comedy venues for years. They go out of their way to bring fabulous well known comedians to our Valley. I theorize that if you have huge expectations for a 4 course meal at Marie Calendars for $12.95, that you are either high or dillusional! Just either eat your lemon chicken and shut the f*ck up or eat somewhere else and just go for the great show! read more

How very disappointing. We came early for dinner and the hostess - Diana something, an owner of the club, I think - tried to steer us to a covered foldng table right next to the bar. I don't blame her; she must try that on everyone in hopes that someone won't hate it. The only vegetarian meal on the menu had been replaced with fish & chips. The liqueur I ordered was given to me in a sticky glass. Our dirty dishes sat on our table until we asked for them to be removed. None of this could be blamed on our nice server, Hector, who actually had to run behind the bar for his own beverages and bus his own tables. Poor guy. We had four comedians as well, although we expected only two. First, Diana got onstage and tried to charm the crowd by singling out a few people for some banter. It was stiff, awkward, and far from funny. I wish the "surprise" guests could have entertained us through dinner so they were a bonus instead of starting at 9pm and taking the evening later. The comedians were okay, and that is being very generous. I didn't laugh out loud, and we actually left during the headliner. I don't know how much was just unfunny, or if the cold, dark room with terrible acoustics just spoiled the mood. It's not a club. It's a Marie Callender's. Go for the pie, not for the laughs. read more

We love going out on Friday nights here............It is so good to be able to get out and laugh so close to home. We have been there on July 4 with 7 people and last night with a fund raiser over 50. We have a ball no matter what! Sure sometimes the wait staff is over booked, but we can work around that. A laugh is more important to our well being than waiting for food order, a drink or bus service (which I believe they avoid for noise when the comedians are working) All good from Harry and Trish Cohen Randy Lubas and his wife, and Jeff have all done a great job to help us smile! We like to go at least 1 X per month or more and would sign up to take the comedian workshop too! read more

Unfortunately after a beautiful bridal shower at Mimi's Cafe our party was yelled at by an aggressive man. This man was setting up for a comedy night and yelled and used profanity to our guests. Our party had just ended and we were assisting Mimi's staff with clean up. He aggressively made his way through a group of women with large equipment. I have personally heard great things about the comedy night. Sadly the staff was inappropriate. In the end we are people and should not have been spoken to in that way. read more

Great comedians, but missing the pie. The 2 item minimum is annoying as the food/drinks are not anything as good as Marie Callendar's. And very expensive to eat at Mimi's Cafe. But, again, the comedy is supurb. I wish they had a different restaurant, though. read more

It is not the most likely place for a comedy club, and it can't seat many people, but it is close. And that is important too, because you can get home sooner after a late night out having fun. My wife and I have been here many, many times over the years. Often, we just go for the show, but sometimes have dinner there, too. The food choices for the comedy show dinner special aren't great, but you can order off the regular menu if you like. If you just go for the show, you are obligated to buy two items (drinks, appetizers, pie, etc.). per person. Over the years, we have seen 3 different hosts...Jr, his sister, and most recently another guy who repeats a lot of the same tired jokes from show to show. But we don't go there for the host, and he is not on the stage all that long, so we can overlook his shortcomings. They sometimes have name talent here, or talent about to emerge. We saw Alonzo Bodden here before he broke out. Like most other comedians on the stage, he had fun with the venue and the fact that the comedy club was in the back room of a pie restaurant. But I think Alonzo actually lived in the area at the time we saw him, though I don't know whether he still does. If you sit near the stage, you can be sure that at least one of the comedians will talk to you at some point during their act. If you are not into that, stay to the sides or the back. Anyway, if you are interested in a fun evening at a very reasonable price, check it out. They have different acts every week (Fridays and Saturday nights). read more

I'll start by saying the comedians were great, not fantastic, but certainly worth the $15 cover. I saw Jason Love, and Mike Pace and I liked them! I'm giving 2 stars for the venue, JRs comedy club inside of Marie Calendar's Restaurant. I arrived at 8pm for dinner, then the show started at 9pm. I was by myself, ordered the top sirlion (one of maybe 7 choices on the menu) and waited nearly 45 minutes for my food. **Please note there were only 4 or 5 people in the lounge at this time** The steak was oversalted. It came with a side of loaded mashed potatoes, which were clearly microwaved to melt the cheese on top which ended up being hard/crusted. The steak was supposed to be topped with onions and mushrooms with a side of asparagus...what I got was a huge mound of onions/mushrooms on the side of the steak and 2 small asparagus stalks sitting across the plate. :/ The service was terrible, my waitress came to my table twice in 2 1/2 hours!! And no one bothered to ask if I wanted a glass of water with my dinner. Then I get the bill and it was completely overpriced. $15 for the show...Ok. But $8.25 for a cosmo that tasted watered down and didn't even come in a martini glass (apparently they were all broken) is WAY overpriced. And the website says dinner is "an additional $12.95" on top of the cover, but my steak cost $16.99. I would never go here again. Sorry comedians. read more

The first comedian and host was entertaining and funny. The second two comedians not so much. The third,John from NoHo was pretty good. But the headliner, John DiCrosta was one of the funniest comedians I've seen live. I laughed until my face and tummy hurt!!! If he comes back, I highly recommend seeing the show. I have been to this establishment many times and have always enjoyed myself so I figured for my birthday I would get a group of people together and we would get together for good times and have some laughs. I made reservations on line but never got a responce back. I thought this was a bit srange since I left my email and my phone number. I took it upon myself to call in to make sure that it was okay for a group of 10 or more to join in the fun on January 19th, 2013. I left a message and was impressed that I got a call back within a half hour. I explained that I made reservations on line and Jeff said that they did not get it but would be happy to make a spot for us. I thought great this will be a lot of fun. On January 19th we arrived and a table was set up for us. We found out that there was three other groups there celebrating a birthday. We all thought this is going to be a blast. Everything went pretty smoothly until the third comedian came up on stage. He started his skit when he lost track of what he was saying when the cocktail waitress accidently spilt a drink on me. I said to words that through the comedian of track. My two words were "O Sh**". I didn't intentionally say it. It was a bit of a shock to have part of a drink be spilton me. I laughed about and continued on. However the comedian was a little lost. From my previous experiences when something like this happens the comedian would play into it until he got himself back on track. This was not the case. We were told by the people running the establishment that we were too loud and to be quit. Really. Aren't we all here to have some fun and laughs. We were told that the two blondes need to keep quit. Well ahich blondes since there was five blondes sitting at our table. This but a dampner on all the festivities and in a way ruined the happiness of me celebrating my birthday. The sad thing of it all was that the last comedian that came o stage (Ryan) was awesome. He was funny and played into the groups except for ours. It was clearly made that he was not to engage our table into comedian fun. That is real sad since we paid to have them on stage. Is it our fault that the one comedian was so thrown of track by my two words? I don't think so. Maybe he needs to practice going with the flow. After the show was over it came to my attention that our group was asked not to come back because we were too loud. Really. Laughing and having a good time is a crime. Since when. As i have stated previously I have been to this establishment many times with the same group of friends and have never been treated this disrespectfully. I live in this community and encourage others to support their local businesses, but I do have to say that this business does not appreciate our business. We will just have to find another place to have our fun. I feel bad for the cocktail waitress because it was not her fault that she spilt the drink on me but the poeple running the show really but a damper on our festivites and her tip. We paid to have fun and then we were told to be quit. What kind of business would do this? Thanks for ruining a good evening and a celebration that should have been fun and uneventful. Your wish is my command. I and my friends have been asked not to come back and we will grant you your wish. Its sad that a business would do this to their paying patrons. Went for Date Night....last Friday night...had a great time, laughed for 2 hours straight...Love that the "2 Drink" minimum can be anything from the menu...Beers & Mixed Drinks to Coffee & Pie...If you get lucky...look for the Rock N Roll Comedian's next show...he's hilarious... read more

Can't believe we have lived here 6 years and tonight was our first time. 4 different comics and they were all funny. Had a great time. Need something to do on week-end don't go to movies , go to JR's Comedy club! read more
