For a holiday happy hour, a few friends and I decided to check out The House (which is owned also by the owners of Lulu's, next door) was a great and very festive options--everything from lights to decorations (even dancing motorized Christmas figures!) to themed drinks. I had a cinnamon tequila sour that did not disappoint, and our cocktails were all spot on. I also learned that if you wanted, you can order food from Lulu's from The House and someone will deliver it over to you (if you're fine just chilling and don't want to walk over to Lulu's)! As for the location, I cannot wait to come back when it is nicer out because they have a large front area with heaters, seats, and just a general ambiance of chill. If it is colder, be aware that the house is small--so larger groups may find it harder to grab seats! I'm happy that I got to experience this place and it is definitely now on my list of places to go when I need a low-key drink! It's tucked in the back of a small strip mall and had no idea it was there. It was a great place to catch fireworks, listen to some great music and sip on some cocktails. (I had an Aperol Spritz!) They also had some food specials (hot dogs and smash burgers, but I imagine this rotates.) The team was so friendly and is super passionate about Kansas City and the Westside neighborhood. You can feel like locals go regularly and it's also a special treat to hideaway for a conversation with a friend for catching up. They have one of the best brewery patios in KC. The indoor space is also fairly large and they do have a room that can be rented for private events. And this year, they added an outdoor tent so you don't have to freeze but can still be outside. They have a few TVs for sports ball watching. Service is always fanatic. Despite being busy, they're always clean. They do offer food-tacos, pizzas, kids menu. I've not tried any but I always see people ordering so it must be pretty good. It's a brewery so obviously they have beer, but they also have nonalcoholic beverages and wine. I stick to the beer. My favorites are alway the stouts. The venue looked perfect, so I reached out to Amanda and booked the event. A few weeks before the brunch, I had questions about flowers and parking. I called Amanda several times and never received a return call. I also texted her and discovered that the phone number listed on the website was not working. At that point, I became concerned and honestly wondered if I had been scammed. Since I live out of town, I asked my sister to stop by the venue. She went there twice. The first time, she spoke with someone at the bar who said Amanda would call me back, but I never heard from her. The second time, my sister was able to speak directly with Amanda, who said she had been very busy and would contact me. Eventually, Amanda called and apologized, but I felt she often spoke over me when I was trying to express my concerns. I found it unprofessional that multiple calls and texts went unanswered and that my sister had to make two trips to the venue before I received a response. A few days before the event, Amanda apologized again and assured me she would make things right. She told me she would be present on the day of the brunch and also mentioned she would reserve a parking space in front of the building for some of our elderly guests since the venue is located on a busy street. On the day of the event, I arrived to find scaffolding in front of the building, which was disappointing and affected the appearance of the venue. When I called Amanda, she informed me that she would not be there after all. The reserved parking space that had been discussed was also not available. The brunch itself went well. We had approximately 35 guests, the drinks were very good, and the staff members who were there worked hard. However, there were only two staff members serving our group, and the overall customer service leading up to the event left much to be desired. As someone planning an important event from out of town, communication and responsiveness are extremely important. While the event itself was successful, I was disappointed by the lack of follow-through, inconsistent communication, and unmet expectations. My hope is that Third Place Lounge improves its customer service so future clients have a smoother and more positive experience.
