TyRess is BEST!!! She did wonders for my flat black hair that I home dyed for years. Not to mention all the damage I was doing to it. Thank you Tyress for reviving my hair and getting me back to my fab self. She is also very funny, kind and understanding. If you are looking for an amazing colorist, look no further!!! *Pictures are from my first transformation which I was floored by! Since then my hair game has been evolving thanks to TyRess!!

Bayalage gone wrong. Was suppose to be blonde into Carmel but got orange tips.

I want to give this place 4 stars. Rosa is amazing. A great hair stylist. Her cut was amazing and I wish I could go back to her. The people there are very friendly and the new location is great. I unfortunately had a bad color job. Emily is very sweet and I think she is a good colorist but the color on my hair just wasn't good. Maybe I got her on an off day or maybe she's not the best at Bayalage. I went in asking for Bayalage and her explanation of it seemed she new what she was doing. We were going to do blonde into Carmel colors. After 3.5 hrs I emerged with orange tips. I did not state I was in happy. I left not happy but when I got home with closer examination I saw that there was no blend it was just a straight line of orange tips. Again this is a hard thing to do and I understand not everyone is great at it. My complaint is she let me leave without admitting it was bad. I think any stylist would have known this is not right. I had my friends pointing out everything that was wrong. I would have gone back and even paid for a correction if she would have admitted defeat and said it didn't work. Instead she said it was fun and she loved it. I have now decided to eat the cost And go to another salon. That being said, I would still recommend this studio. Rosa is great and even Emily I'm sure is a great colorist. I just hope next time this happens she will correct it and not let the customer walk out with orange spotty tips.

    The beautiful new salon area!

I followed both Michael and Leslie over from Elevation to J. Roland and just paid them a visit this morning. For a variety of reasons, I hadn't had my hair worked on in about 6 months, so I came in with some major work to be done: a touch up on my color/highlights from Michael and an even more desperate need for a haircut from Leslie. Both of them sat down with me before the work got started, and we went through the game plan as to how we wanted to tackle the color I was looking for and the cut I was envisioning. So some background on me, I have very long, thick Asian hair that's been highlighted different shades of brown. I told Michael that I wanted something a little bit edgier in terms of color, and since summer's right around the corner, I wanted to go a little lighter on the highlights. At the same time, I told Leslie I was looking for a way to keep my long hair, but also get rid of all the dead stuff and add in thick layers. The meeting of the minds resulted in highlights that were a little lighter and blend and/or ombre itself with my existing color. The haircut would be done so that it frames the colors better, brings out more body/texture to my long hair, and cut away the dead stuff. The result: absolute brilliance. Both Michael and Leslie are masters of their craft, and are definitely artists in the way they can see things and put it together (while talking to each other!). I've been seeing Michael for over two years now, and he knows how to take your interests and ideas and put it together into something beautiful. He's very particular on the type of color he wants involved, and I give him total trust when he makes recommendations. This is the second time Leslie has cut my hair, and I couldn't think of a better person who I trust to take scissors to one of my favorite characteristics about myself. Leslie has amazing attention to detail, and will always ask you for your opinion before starting. The minute I walk through those salon doors, I put all my faith into both Michael and Leslie. As a small side note, the new salon looks amazing! I love the big beautiful windows that allow in so much natural light! I do miss their little cafe that used to have food and drinks to order though. It's definitely deceiving from the outside, and especially it being in Crocker Galleria, you wouldn't think the salon looks the way it does. Anyway, I love both Michael and Leslie so much! Check both of them out and tell them I sent you :)

Elkin Chacon has done my hair color for years, and he is the best! He always gets it right with dimension and depth. You can bring in a picture, and he will reproduce it. Sheila, Elkin's wife, cuts hair beautifully and can do elaborate styles for weddings, a night on the town, or anytime you want something special. They are both charming and personable, as well as creative/aesthetically gifted, always making sure their customers are completely happy.

Cut by Leslie Chin. This is her cut grown out. I love it! Color by Nina

Under the previous owners, Laura and Danny, the salon felt welcoming and personal. Over the years, we got to know them and many of the people who worked there, and we brought the business a great deal of repeat business. Unfortunately, since they retired and sold the business to Lux SF2, my experiences have changed dramatically. My longtime technician is still wonderful, and I have nothing but positive things to say about her. Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere and customer service have gone downhill. The manager who now runs the salon consistently comes across as angry and unwelcoming. There is rarely a hello or any effort to make customers feel welcome, and it seems that the employees are uncomfortable around her. There is also another employee who has displayed the same type of behavior toward customers. The problems really came to a head when my partner was accidentally charged double for a service. He noticed the overcharge immediately and was told that it would be corrected and refunded within a day or so. It wasn't. After three phone calls over the course of 10 days, the money still had not been refunded. We ultimately let the matter go because he returned to the salon and received the pedicure he had already paid for. Instead of simply resolving the issue professionally, the manager became angry and raised her voice at my partner, insisting that the money had already been refunded when it had not. My partner eventually contacted the manager at their sister salon on Hayes Street to explain what had happened. Apparently, that made the situation even worse, because the manager then confronted him and became even more upset with him in the salon. Then came my experience last night. I had a punch card that had been started under the previous ownership. I had one punch remaining for a complimentary manicure. This card had already been punched by the current salon seven times out of ten, so they clearly had been honoring it. After receiving my manicure, I presented the card and was suddenly told that I had to pay an additional $5 because it was an "old" card from the previous owner. When I questioned this, I was told that they don't honor the old cards--even though they have continued punching mine and accepting it as valid. If the salon no longer intends to honor a loyalty program, that should have been clearly communicated to customers before they continued accepting and stamping those cards. The situation became even more uncomfortable when the male employee raised his voice at me in front of other customers and began bringing up my partner's refund issue from a month and a half earlier. I explained that the matter had already been dealt with, but he continued to argue with me and speak to me disrespectfully. Meanwhile, the manager, who was present and is supposedly running the salon, never stepped in to de-escalate the situation or address the behavior. I eventually left and went to the main Lux SF location up the street to speak with management. The manager there was apologetic, listened to what happened, and treated me with the professionalism and courtesy I would have expected from the salon in the first place. There are also growing concerns about cleanliness and sanitation that I have noticed during my recent visits. The chairs and workstations appear to have a layer of nail dust on them, and sanitizing the stations does not seem to be the priority it once was. I have also observed pedicure stations not being sprayed with what appeared to be bleach/disinfectant after each use. Given the nature of the services being provided, this is particularly concerning to me. I plan to contact the appropriate health department to report what I have observed and ask them to determine whether the salon is following the required sanitation procedures. It is incredibly disappointing to see a place that we supported for so many years change this much. Customers should not feel like they are walking into an environment where employees are angry, customers are spoken to disrespectfully, charges are inconsistent, or legitimate concerns are met with confrontation. A business cannot build a lasting customer base by treating people this way. In my opinion, if the current management continues to create an atmosphere of anger, disrespect, and distrust--and if customers feel they are being overcharged or treated unfairly whenever there is an opportunity to do so--the business will eventually lose the loyal customers who helped sustain it for years. I genuinely hope Lux SF2 takes these concerns seriously. There is still an opportunity to turn things around, but that starts with treating customers and employees with basic respect, being transparent about pricing and loyalty programs, properly addressing billing issues, and making cleanliness and sanitation a priority again.

The quality of ingredients, time spent, lack of even a slight massage, and general feel of the spa doesn't warrant such a high price tag. Short of breath, I made it to the top of the hill and to my destination *phew. It was a nice quad and glute workout for sure. I was greeted by a friendly staff and led to a wall of nail polish (sometimes the choices are overwhelming). I chose a bright pink and sparkly OPI nail polish. It felt summery. I ended up feeling tense as I sat and eased my feet into warm water. Annie, my nail artist, told me to relax but my body wanted to do the opposite. I think I get tense when my toenails are being cut as if to anticipate pain, but when I felt comfortable with her technique, I started to relax. It was probably the most relaxed I've been all week. Annie was sweet and attentive. She also did a really good job removing my cuticles and massaging my calves. I needed it! It was a great way to end a stressful day at work. I would love to come back!

The technician clipped my cuticle too far, causing bleeding, and was very rough throughout the service -- especially while removing the builder gel and filing my nails. She also skipped steps that Andrew had previously done, which affected the overall quality. I clearly asked for a gel builder fill and to keep my length, but she began filing my nails down anyway. I had to repeat myself multiple times and eventually had to switch to Gel-X just to regain the length that was removed. There also seemed to be a language barrier. However, instead of asking a coworker for clarification, she continued with what she thought I said rather than confirming my request. I ultimately had to stop and ask another staff member walking by to help translate. Additionally, pricing was not transparent. The service is listed online as $70 for a gel builder fill, but I was charged $85. When I asked about it, I was told I had already been given a discount, which was confusing and not explained. This technician needs more professionalism and should be spoken to regarding both technique and customer care.
