Cheese Pizza Tub (Single) 3 Cheese Tomato/Pesto (Single)

The interior was tiny, elongated, but clean and bright. There was a glass separating foot traffic from the other side of the counter. The staff were so sweet and inviting and I was happy to inform them that I found them because they were featured on yelp. I love that I tried such a creative style of pizza. The pizzas can be bought individually with different toppings for just alittle under 3 dollars a piece. The pizza was good, I wouldn't go out of my way to get it but I wouldn't def try it again. The sauce was alittle too sweet on the cheese one and pesto isn't my favorite -- I tried pesto because they were out of buffalo chicken. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

Pizza tubs are such a unique idea! Though the menu is on the smaller side currently offering 4 different flavors, I think they're smart to focus on what they have and doing it well, especially as they're just starting out. Each kind we tried was delicious, but I'd say pepperoni and bacon & onion were our personal favorites. The owners are friendly and passionate about their new endeavor. Check them out for takeout, delivery through GrubHub, or pop in to get take some frozen ones and make them at home. As of the time of this review, there is no dine-in available. This is a commercial kitchen space.

Two cheese pizza tubs, two 3 cheese pesto pizza tubs.

Just tried this place for the first time. I got a "four pack" with two cheese pizzas and two 3 cheese pesto pizzas. Baked fresh right in front of me. From the first bite I could tell that they used high quality, fresh ingredients. Flavor and texture were superb. I liked the herbs in the pesto sauce particularly.

Cheese pizza tub in my hand

Rizzos has very quickly become a favorite of mine. The pizza tubs are deceptively filling, full of flavor, and incredibly affordable. I'm greeted with smiling faces and great conversation every time I walk in. The unique pizza tubs are sure to be hit at parties or to feed the family. Rizzos will definitely be a household name one day, wouldn't it be cool to say you're an original customer?

Then I compared their garlic & onion to Moderns by ordering them both and trying them side by side. Again, Olde World's was significantly better (and much less expensive mind you). Overall if I had to compare the two (bc Modern has always been my top choice around here) I'd compare the following ... The first pizza or 2 after the change were up to the old standard. Since then, however, we have had several sub-par pies. It seems like they are still using quality ingredients, but it's now a very different pizza. The crust and sauce at Olde World were previously great. Both are now significantly off in our opinion. They simply don't taste the same. The sauce is not balanced and sometimes leaves an aftertaste. The crust can often be a little too thick and it lacks the taste we had grown accustomed to, both from Olde World and the usual faves in New Haven. We have been displeased enough to stop going here. As many previous reviews have mentioned, it used to be a New Haven-quality pie without having to go into New Haven. We're sorry to say that's no longer the case in our opinion.

And we sure found a good one in Hamden on Friday. We saw refrigerated cases full of pastas and raviolis, counters with trays of pizzas, showcases with trays of prepared foods like sausage and oeooers, eggplant rollatinis, and seafood marinara, a sandwich counter for cold cuts, and a baked goods counter. We narrowed our want list down to three very different items. We bought two slices of their sausage pizza, two garlic knots, and three eggplant rollatinis. The pizza was fantastic! Super thin crust, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of cheese, a very good sauce and delicious sausage chunks. Oh, and the slices were enormous. We made a dinner out of the eggplant and garlic knots. The eggplant was sliced so thin, and was so soft and tender, it resembled lasagna noodles! The rollatinis were loaded with ricotta cheese and marinara sauce and it was a fantastic dish. We split the three rolls and let me tell ya, one and a half rolls were plenty for dinner. The garlic knots were ridiculously loaded with garlic, not teeny tiny shavings, but big hunks of garlic cloves. Needless to say, they were fantastic as well. Our total cost was $24.66, and Sapori threw in four complimentary slices of fresh Italian bread with our order. We really loved Sapori a lot.

We had the ricotta and honey on toast, meatballs, prosciutto/mozzarella to start, some white wine and of course PIZZA! The pizza was light and cooked perfectly. We had the Dolce Salato and the Diavolina. We loved the Dolce Salato! The Diavolina was good, but I think some more spicy salami or maybe an additional spicy component would have been a good addition to the pizza. It needed just a little bit more on the flavor side. But still everything here is high quality and I would recommend! Service was excellent. We were immediately seated and had the option to sit inside or outside. I first sat inside, then we moved to a larger table outside. What I really appreciated as a new mom, was their openness and flexibility for coming in with a stroller. I was nervous to be a burden to the restaurant, but they were super accommodating. Thank you On room for improvement, I think on a hot day, having the inside space being much much cooler, than the outdoor seating (especially for newborns/really young kids/elderly) would be beneficial. Yesterday it was cool inside to start (and remember I chose to move outside), but they started to leave the front door open to allow for easy movement of staff and guests between inside and outside, which made the indoor space get warmer over time. And I totally get that for the ease of movement for staff/guests, but maybe consider keeping it super cool on the inside, so that kiddos/elderly have a cool space on a really hot day to not overheat. The vibe here is great. Chill, warm and light! Come with family and/or friends and enjoy!

Of the two the clam casino was definitely the winner. The clam casino had a good amount of clams so that you really a taste of the clam and the fresh garlic pieces in the pizza really added a kick. The eggplant is very interesting if you want to eat meat but don't want to eat meat. The ricotta eventually got too heavy and the eggplant seems to have been fried before baking so it gets a little oily after a few slices. The bread of the pizza is bit more on the breadier side and the crust didn't really have a flavor. I am a big fan of the New Haven style crust where it is thinner and a bit more on the burnt(but not fully burned) side, but this has potential. It would be great if they seasoned the crust a bit more to give the pizza a more complete taste from start to finish. Overall the pizza is pretty decent. The plain pies, mashed potato, and the mangia special were my favorites but really everything there was top notch. There is nothing that I wouldn't order again. The crust is nice and crunchy. Good char on it. Sauce was delicious - not sour like straight from a can. Toppings were better than I expected for a small pizza spot. Sausage was tasty. Mushrooms were fresh not tinned, fresh tomatoes and basil. Tons of clams on the pizza. Bacon was thick sliced and left almost whole. Eggplant was sliced thin. Generous with the toppings. This place is small, unapologetic, and full of character. Decorative firewood stacked with intention, walls filled with wine corks, and #10 tomato cans repurposed as pizza stands. Walk in and you immediately catch the vibe, exposed brick, distressed plaster, a slightly industrial, almost factory-style feel that somehow still feels warm and welcoming. The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. Easily one of my favorites. The crust across the board was thin and tender with a delicate smoky char from the wood fire, exactly what you want from this style. Bottom line: Great spot.
