It was ok.... So we got three meals. Gyro platter, cheese steak and chicken cheese steak with a salad. First, took longer than average to get the salad and when it arrived the server said that they were out of Italian and just assumed we were ok with the house Greek, so no other option was given. Chicken cheese steak decent, slaw came out warm and the fries over cooked and almost transparent from fryer grease. Cheese steak was mediocre. Not much meat on it. Same issue with the fries. Charged for hot Sauce... ‍ Gyro platter, fries were like the other two plates, but I ate them. Gyro came out with only onions on. Tzatziki sauce was on the side. Never seen it presented with strings of cucumber in it but tasted decent. Gyro meat was over cooked and crunchy in half the pieces. No lettuce on the gyro, salad can on the side with two slices of cucumber, feta cheese and Greek dressing. When applying the lettuce and feta to the gyro it threw off the taste with the Greek dressing added to the tzatziki sauce. Idk, not what I expected after reading all the reviews. I prob won't return. Went to find the manager and he was too busy to bother to take a second to assist. When getting takeout, the boxes were soggy and the food broke through and made a mess. I ordered half sweet and half unsweet tea but they only gave a sweet tea. They charge 3.95 for 8 ounces of tea. Ridiculous. The food is good, but they don't acknowledge you when you come in even if they are not busy. The owner was rude and would not listen to me when I tried to get the order right. I really liked it the first time when we ate inside, but to order something to go, the menu does not explain that in order to get certain things you have to make a separate order and not just write in the special order remarks. Wow what an amazing experience. The menu has lots of homemade, classic ,and unique options (even gluten free). I had a seasonal pumpkin French toast with pumpkin butter and it was delicious. Finally an excellent breakfast Destination in Hagerstown! Service was great and the waitress was very friendly. My boyfriend was looking for a brunch place with vegan options to stop by for a quick bite as we were on a long road trip, and was surprised to see a diner with a vegan section on the menu! After seeing the rather underwhelming exterior of the restaurant, we had relatively low expectations. HOWEVER, as soon as we entered the interior decor wowed us and we were quickly seated by our attentive waitress. I was torn between the delicious options provided under the vegan menu but decided with the breakfast tacos - best. decision. ever!!! The food came up pretty quickly, and I was immediately impressed with the presentation and it smelled DELICIOUS! The tacos were a bit messy to eat LOL but I devoured every bite (my boyfriend even snagged a taco, he couldn't resist!) and I tried one of his crispy fries that were seasoned to perfection! I wouldn't expect a diner to have such yummy vegan options so I was blown away by the flavors of the tofu scramble, pico de gallo, and sauce along with the crispy roasted potatoes. Went here a fresh days back. First off the service was good no complaints there. However the food was mediocre at best. Food Review: Chili 3/5- I started off with a cup of Chili. The presentation was great. However, the taste was just ok. It was missing the spice you would expect with a chili. The sauce could have been a little sweeter. Taco Salad 2.5/5- Presentation was great. Beef was good. Needed more sour cream. The dressing they put on the salad was horrible. Tip: tell them no dressing if you get the Taco Salad Overall, average experience. The prices were reasonable. The food needs some work. Don't judge a book by its cover - I kept thinking it was part of the liquor store next door. Once you're inside, it's bright and clean. The staff were very welcoming, and service very quick. I ordered a pretty simple breakfast that's hard to mess up (eggs, fried potatoes, toast and coffee) but those potatoes OMG, possibly the best I've ever had; soft with the perfect crusty coating, and caramalized onions with a hint of garlic powder. Perfection. The coffee was quite good also. Priced very reasonably, so you can bring the family without feeling like your bank account is going to take a hit. Amazing food and attentive service. I had the Tuscan Chicken which coveted with a sauce that tasted like she crab soup with a little kick. I'm a return customer but it's been about two years since being here. Hubby ordered a smash burger and enjoyed the taste and that it was made exactly as ordered. I ordered the grilled chicken panini and loved it as well with mozzarella cheese and tomatoes. Our waitress was very cordial, esp when we asked about the favorite choices. She checked on us a few times, just enough to make sure all was okay. We each ordered fries crispy and well done. They have a coating on the fries that we didn't like. Since being there two years ago, they also added to the set up. It was okay. It was nice that they still had a place to eat outside, clustered at the front rather than the side of the building. My wife and I went today as we go to J's dinner once or twice a month. I ordered the vegan breakfast tacos. When the order came they were made with eggs not vegan eggs. So I sent them back. The waitress brought the exact same non vegan eggs back. And said they say these are vegan. As a vegan I can smell regular eggs. So I told her it's ok I don't want them. I will just eat the side of potatoes. About ten minutes later they brought them back. This time they were vegan eggs. I told them I didn't want them. They said they wanted to make it right. So when the bill comes it is full price. I asked the waitress to remove the Taco from the bill. She comes back with a 10% discount. So I asked for the manager. He comes over and was very argumentative and insisted they were vegan eggs. And told me if I had a issue with their vegan eggs to next time get the potatoes only. This was a restaurant that my wife and I had come to every weekend. Even after the portion sizes dropped. And the prices increased by about 4 dollars per entree. And another time only 50% of the Taco was filled. I can over look many of the previous issues. But I can't overlook the way he treated me and ruined my dining experience. We will never be back to your restaurant. You need to learn the number one rule of business. The customer is always right. He could have said you know what we messed up sorry about that. And took it off the bill. Instead he was argumentative and disrespectful. I was respectful the whole time even though he was not. My wife's non vegan food was good. first i want to say i was very excited to try this place. Believe it or not i tried tacolicious first and it was amazing so you can imagine my frustration when i get to j's and it's not at all what i expected. The way they do reservations is weird because you can make it online but when i made mine it seemed like it wasn't received on the other end. i made the reservation an hour before i left my house and i was still waiting an extra 45 minutes and she said our table had been ready for 20 minutes. That was after i called them to see how much longer. We were eventually seated and our orders were taken even though i felt like our waiter was a bit rude or seemed like she did not want to be there. the drinks came out and everyone gets a glass cup and i get a small plastic cup with my orange juice. we all get our food and had to return 2 plates because it was not enjoyable. The french toast was described as just bread with butter and the pancakes were a complete disaster. she said they were dry and it's weird because it's kinda hard to mess up pancakes. Not to mention the ketchup bottle had ketchup all over the bottle and no ketchup inside the bottle. AND THAT SMALL CUP OF SUPER TARTE ORANGE JUICE WAS $6!!!! Not a good experience!, There was a large party which is why the waitress told us it took too long to get our food, it finally came out cold, asked for potatoes well done, they weren't, there was basically no hollandaise on my Benedict so when I finally was able to track down a waitress it took another 10 minutes to get the sauce for my Benny. Canadian bacon was very very thin, could hardly taste it. Saw on the check they charged me $2:00 for the side of hollandaise, when I told the waitress I only got the side because there was hardly any on it she gave me attitude. Surprisingly good Hispanic breakfast items in Hagerstown. The chilaquiles are just as good as the ones I've had in California and Texas.

You know how someone says I wish I had met you earlier so we could could have been together longer--that is J's. Now to be honest they have hooked me with the breakfast items--from their homemade sausage to the French toast. We have always gotten takeout but it always right and nicely packaged. So my uncle Frank who is basically one of the best and kindest human beings in the world recently underwent a very serious cancer surgery next to his face right in front of his ear. He is still swollen and of COURSE sensitive about how he looks while healing...He told me today that he came in to J's diner because he heard such great things about it, and got stared at by all customers and COMPLETELY IGNORED by the staff.
