Made a reservation for 2 and we sat at the bar. The food was absolutely delicious. Pizza was piping hot and the best crust I've had in a while. The bartender was wonderful and attentive. The tiramisu is the best I've ever had (and I don't even like tiramisu). Inside is absolutely beautiful too.

Visiting the area and my brother gave the recommendation to try. At first I was expecting something completely different from the outside and when I came inside it had this old school feel and loved it! Service was great and food overall was 10/10. The Scallops......Compliments to whoever came up with that recipe! Wow! Amazing and Unforgettable!!!

If there wasn't a minimum character requirement for reviews, this review would simply say: "YEAH!" My friend who is a local San Pedran (San Pedro-an?) said this place is THE BEST Italian restaurant, to which I said "say less." I had the Sunday sauce, which is a short rib ragu in bolognese sauce. When I started eating it, my mind's analogue was instantly beef birria. Such a delicious fall apart texture. For dessert we had Crème brûlée and that was no slouch. The seasonal berries atop it were the pièce de résistance if we're going to switch nationalities to French in this review. My friend is traditionally a chicken marsala guy, but he had the lasagna here and said he fell in love. The service was impeccable. I couldn't have asked for a more picture perfect atmosphere with traditional dimly lit booth and table seating. It was like a movie. The music felt appropriate for a 4th-generation traditional Italian restaurant. Hurry up and come to J. Trani's!

Really great first experience! This place came recommended by a friend and man was it a solid recommendation! We were originally a little bummed that the menu prices were higher than other older menus posted here on Yelp (I took new photos to add though), but I do think the food was worth the price with how gourmet the pasta felt. We split a pasta and a pizza and left with enough for leftovers! We also enjoyed the $3 gelatos for dessert (two scoops per order!!!). Our server was super friendly and even brought out the bottle of wine that I ordered a glass from so I could take a photo for later. That wine was seriously a good one! Loved the little old house vibe of the outside and the sort of midwest rustic inside.

This spot has that quaint, local neighborhood vibe -- the kind of place where people gather with friends, hang out at the bar, and linger over drinks. My friends frequent it often and really enjoy it, so I had high hopes. For me, it was good... but not quite crave-worthy. The garlic bread was basic. Nothing bad about it, just nothing that made me think about it afterward. The truffle carbonara had solid flavor, but it was very rich -- a small portion was more than enough for me. The Caesar salad was fresh, though a little heavy on the pepper for my liking. The Chicken Madeira was good -- juicy chicken and a flavorful sauce, though it leaned slightly sweet. To be fair, I don't order Chicken Madeira often and I split it with a friend, so my knowledge on the dish is mediocre. Overall, everything else seemed solid. A few people at our table ordered the ribeye, and the swordfish and I have to admit -- it looked delicious. I'm not writing this place off. I'll definitely be back to try that ribeye.

Absolutely amazing dining experience. The ambiance, the lighting, service, and food are all top tier. We wanted something perfect for an anniversary date night and it exceeded our expectations. Ive passed this place many times but never knew it was a hidden gem. Parking on the street is plenty and some next door. We ordered the bluefin tuna appetizer which was small but the flavors complemented each other so nicely. I ordered the duck entree which was cooked beautifully. The pork chop was huge and so tasty, even came w a decent size serving of delicious pasta. The cocktails I got were the mezcal and cucumber tequila ones. They were both delicious, refreshing, and packed a punch. Honestly such a great vibe for an intimate dinner w friends or family. We will definitely be back very soon.

Googled best restaurant in San Pedro and J. Trani's appeared. Saw the stellar reviews and decided to try. Glad I did. First let's start with the staff and service. Even though my party didn't make a reservation, the hostess and manager were able to sneak us in and luckily we got seating at the bar. There Drew the bartender was amazing serving our drinks and taking our orders. Made my party feel very welcome. Fun fact, the staff said the restaurant recently celebrated their 100th anniversary. Now for the food. OMG this was the best Italian food I've ever had. First you can tell the food is going to be good by how small and focused the menu is. There aren't pages upon pages of a menu. Just a short one page one that the kitchen can master. First thing that came out was the jalapeño bread and it was so good. Had a little spicy kick with buttery texture. Then oysters came out and they were so fresh and delicious. Finally had the bone in pork chop Parmesan. Drew the bartender said this was his favorite item and I could see why. The crust was so flavorful and pork chop very juicy. The penne pasta too was so delicious. Prices were very fair too I might add. Highly recommend this local Italian restaurant.

The staff is warm and friendly, greeting and serving you like old friends. They take care with allergies. The food is not only delicious, but beautiful, see photos. Often there are new or special items. Menus printed daily. It's a warm and cozy place, beautiful brass bar.

Will the restaurant open for brunch around new years?

What dishes are vegetarian (no meat or fish)?

They have some pasta dishes which will suffice, I can't tell you which specifically. BUT, my daughter does get their pasta with Alfredo sauce, and I love the butternut squash ravioli. Those both fit into your definition of vegetarian. The kitchen…

If you've ever had popcorn chicken from a good boba shop, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The chicken is crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and somehow manages to disappear before I make it home. The fried basil is the real MVP though! crispy, fragrant, and incredibly addictive! Highly recommend checking out this local gem!!!

We asked for not spicy and there was only a hint of white pepper. The only negative was the presentation. It is served in a large paper cone. That's fine if you're eating and walking with it. But at a table, the cone was so tall that you have to stand up to see the chicken inside. And you have to rotate the cone if you're sharing since one side of the cone is taller than the other. The stinky tofu was serviceable but it could have been stinkier. The beef noodle soup was okay. The beef was very tender and the soup was good. But it's not as flavorful as the ones at Sue's Kitchen up the street. The only miss for me was the Dan Dan noodles. I was warned it was spicy but it was a bit spicier than I anticipated. That's ok but the sauce had a weird sour taste to it that was kind of off putting. The service is very attentive. I wish they served boba drinks. Overall we will definitely be back. I can't wait until they open their new branch up in Palos Verdes later this year.

Meaning, we were spending time together and just moving through the interaction, like clothes in a spin cycle. But going here made our time together mean something more because we had arrived at a space that elevated our mood and spirits. So we were now feeling the suds and splashes of the movement not just in the monotony of the spin. As we entered, I felt like the place was a Chinese Market but indoors. I have never bene to China (I have yet to die so maybe one day my feet will have the chance to step the Great Wall) but I feel like their street vendors would have stands like the seating motif within the main room of this joint. The place was not packed but there was no space within the wooden booths for Conrad and I. I asked for options, and they showed me two different rooms. The first room was the Hao Pen You room which was heavilty yet beautifully decorated with varying red lanterns in the ceiling. Additionally, there was a paper dragon hanging in the ceiling, swimming in the air amidst the lanterns. The host ushered me in, and milaseconds after I felt a quick sense of awe. Not like the one I felt one I saw the Sisteen Chappel, but one that compelled me to snap quick photos of the aerial view. The host understood. She stopped her explanation to give me the space to feel my wow that was delivered in a red envelope. I eventually decided to sit in this room, so there is more detail that I can deliver, but before I do, I did request to see the other room of the house. So we crossed the room with the wooden booths and stepped into an immersive Tiki Bar that gave shipwreck vibes. Like the survivors of shipwreck took what they could from the boat's carcass, and made a great bar in the beach that glowed with the light of jellyfish and had seaweed on the ceiling as decoration that was not stale like mistletoe on a doorway. When Conrad and I sat in the Hao Pen You room, we learned that it was a quasi speak easy. According to history, in the 1800's it was common for Chinese immigrants to visit gambling and opium dens behind laundry rooms to find a space that they could call their own and escape discrimination. I am sure that dens of the past did not have the blazing style of the room I was sitting in, but I did appreciate learning about the history that inspired the room. Only because the pain of the past was reshaped to honor a culture in theatrical and edgy red. Plus, as one of my pictures show, the dragon's face and laser lit eyes, made it seem like a real creature born to this earth, not one simply reserved for myth and Game of Throne episodes. I appreciated the immersive trip to Chinese's lore and history. The reason why I did not give this place 5 stars, was the food. The food in general was (maybe tragically) basic. Conrad did not confirm this fact until we were outside the restaurant. I asked him why did he not share his feelings with our server when she asked? He explained why would he, she did not cook the food, and she could not do anything? And I am from the camp, where honesty matters but I guess it might only matter to me? He might be right what does honest feedback do for a server? Conrad might have been practicing "restaurant politeness" like keep the situation civil because if one becomes a demanding patron or eater then one breaks the social contract and becomes rude. Specifically, Conrad and I had the Vegan Dumplings, the pork buns, and rice wrapped in leaves. And even though we had different bites, and each one had their own flavor profile at the end I can only describe each bite as basic. That is my opinion, and I stand by it, as I should, as every one should. Perhaps this restaurant owns this identity. This might be a place that offers theatrical atmosphere, great drinks, vibes that make a Tuesday special, but their food might be the area that remains standard, and in the final score card the servers of the joint might be ok with that.
