We went here on a busy Sunday night with no reservation. We were seated at the bar with the party at 5. That was a plus on there their reception staff. The bar area was lively and had the dodger game on so we were watching while we reviewing the menu. We decided on the calamari, new style and the carpaccio swordfish both were very good. I would order those appetizers again. Main course we had the butternut squash ravioli and Bacon and corn pizza. We also shared the Caesar salad. Our entrees were good but I couldn't say I would order either one of them again. On the pizza I was expecting actual corn kernels and the sweet corn was used as the sauce of the pizza and bacon bits were scattered skimpily. Ravioli was ok, but not enough sauce. For dessert we had gelato and that was good. Our server seemed disinterested. She made my experience underwhelming. I would come back for the appetizer and drinks. I will give this place another try.

Made a reservation for 2 and we sat at the bar. The food was absolutely delicious. Pizza was piping hot and the best crust I've had in a while. The bartender was wonderful and attentive. The tiramisu is the best I've ever had (and I don't even like tiramisu). Inside is absolutely beautiful too.

Visiting the area and my brother gave the recommendation to try. At first I was expecting something completely different from the outside and when I came inside it had this old school feel and loved it! Service was great and food overall was 10/10. The Scallops......Compliments to whoever came up with that recipe! Wow! Amazing and Unforgettable!!!

If there wasn't a minimum character requirement for reviews, this review would simply say: "YEAH!" My friend who is a local San Pedran (San Pedro-an?) said this place is THE BEST Italian restaurant, to which I said "say less." I had the Sunday sauce, which is a short rib ragu in bolognese sauce. When I started eating it, my mind's analogue was instantly beef birria. Such a delicious fall apart texture. For dessert we had Crème brûlée and that was no slouch. The seasonal berries atop it were the pièce de résistance if we're going to switch nationalities to French in this review. My friend is traditionally a chicken marsala guy, but he had the lasagna here and said he fell in love. The service was impeccable. I couldn't have asked for a more picture perfect atmosphere with traditional dimly lit booth and table seating. It was like a movie. The music felt appropriate for a 4th-generation traditional Italian restaurant. Hurry up and come to J. Trani's!

Really great first experience! This place came recommended by a friend and man was it a solid recommendation! We were originally a little bummed that the menu prices were higher than other older menus posted here on Yelp (I took new photos to add though), but I do think the food was worth the price with how gourmet the pasta felt. We split a pasta and a pizza and left with enough for leftovers! We also enjoyed the $3 gelatos for dessert (two scoops per order!!!). Our server was super friendly and even brought out the bottle of wine that I ordered a glass from so I could take a photo for later. That wine was seriously a good one! Loved the little old house vibe of the outside and the sort of midwest rustic inside.

This spot has that quaint, local neighborhood vibe -- the kind of place where people gather with friends, hang out at the bar, and linger over drinks. My friends frequent it often and really enjoy it, so I had high hopes. For me, it was good... but not quite crave-worthy. The garlic bread was basic. Nothing bad about it, just nothing that made me think about it afterward. The truffle carbonara had solid flavor, but it was very rich -- a small portion was more than enough for me. The Caesar salad was fresh, though a little heavy on the pepper for my liking. The Chicken Madeira was good -- juicy chicken and a flavorful sauce, though it leaned slightly sweet. To be fair, I don't order Chicken Madeira often and I split it with a friend, so my knowledge on the dish is mediocre. Overall, everything else seemed solid. A few people at our table ordered the ribeye, and the swordfish and I have to admit -- it looked delicious. I'm not writing this place off. I'll definitely be back to try that ribeye.

Absolutely amazing dining experience. The ambiance, the lighting, service, and food are all top tier. We wanted something perfect for an anniversary date night and it exceeded our expectations. Ive passed this place many times but never knew it was a hidden gem. Parking on the street is plenty and some next door. We ordered the bluefin tuna appetizer which was small but the flavors complemented each other so nicely. I ordered the duck entree which was cooked beautifully. The pork chop was huge and so tasty, even came w a decent size serving of delicious pasta. The cocktails I got were the mezcal and cucumber tequila ones. They were both delicious, refreshing, and packed a punch. Honestly such a great vibe for an intimate dinner w friends or family. We will definitely be back very soon.

One downside is that they don't have a public restroom, so there's nowhere to wash your hands after digging into seafood. Be sure to bring your own hand sanitizer or wet wipes because you'll definitely want them! We ordered a pound of shrimp with snow crab and added corn and potatoes. We chose the mild seasoning, and while it still had a little kick for me, that's probably because I don't normally eat spicy food. The seafood was fresh, flavorful, and well-seasoned. We also ordered the whole lobster, which ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. It was stir-fried with onions and green onions, served with a side of white rice, and absolutely delicious. One surprise was finding shrimps inside the lobster dish as well. We also shared the hearty seafood chowder and a beef skewer. We came hungry and managed to finish almost everything, with only some shrimps left in the seafood boil bag. A&J it's a great spot if you're craving fresh seafood. The menu, is a bit of this and a little of that. We really didn't know what we were in the mood for. I decided on 1 oyster and one scallop on the half shell. Very fresh, kind of small, servings. The sauce on each were unique and flavorful with a shallot accompaniment. Very nice though. Really balanced flow. The oyster, well I dont know how to express it any other way other than that you need this. You really do. I ordered the mushroom empenadas, my friend ordered steak tacos. The steak tacos were really good, with a nice portion. Meat had nice flavor, as did the aioli. No surprises with this dish, I mean steak tacos is self explanatory. The mushroom empenada was fantastic. Very rich, and filling. Just baked out of the oven with a perfect brown on the bread. Excellent flavor. Instead of the rosemary aioli, I had the mango jalapeño spread to dip into. Fantastic. Definitely coming back. Food took a bit to come out, but this isn't a fast casual dump. There were a few things that really stood out and made me very happy that I gave it a try. First, the red sauce in the salsa bar: very legit! Spicy, but very flavorful! I also tried the green chili/tomatillo sauce, which was also very good and good counter point to the unctuous marinated chicken. And they don't go cheap on the meat. Secondly, the corn tortillas were made in house and were hefty! Very tasty and held together where other tacos need two of the thin store-bought variety to have a hope to stand together. Very good. If I had the tiniest critique, I would say to add a tiny bit more salt to them, but I have a theory why they may go scant on it, and I respect that. Third, the beans and rice: The beans were very simple, but simply good. It takes a lot of guts to make and serve simple pinto beans boiled with salt. I know! What a concept! But simply delicious, and made to complement the rest of the food, and not distract from it. It takes a lot of confidence in my opinion for a restaurant to have such faith in their food to leave some that should be simple, simple. The same was true for the rice: simply well made, not over done with a ton of ingredients. It was well made: the individual grains didn't stick together. And it was unctuous without being overbearing. If I had to guess, I would say that they used broth and chicken fat. Simply good, and a complement to rest of the meal. Now to my theory. It makes sense that the masa would be light on the salt because it is the same masa that they use for pupusas, and the filling for pupusas (I just like that word) is savory and well seasoned. I'll let you now next time I got back and try the PUPUSAS! ;)
