This place is great, the location is great, and the atmosphere is great. The service in the food...eh not so great. I have gone to this place twice in the last few weeks (it just opened) and have really enjoyed myself both times. I am also really happy to see this area growing as an alternative to heading downtown if you would like to walk down a street and check out multiple bars/restaurants. They have a great selection of beer on tap and I counted over 30. You can also walk over a glass floor below of their keg room which is pretty unexpected with the pub like decor. They are still a new kitchen so I believe they are using a basic menu currently. There is certainly room for improvement. I had their signature burger made from rib meet. Not bad, but certainly not great. It also seemed to wait staff was a little confused about what to do and what was on the menu. If this place gets it's act together a bit more, then they definitely could be closer to 5 star territory. I highly recommend you give it a shot yourself. read more

This little bar is located off of Rose Ave in the Domain. It has an open concept along the sidewalk of its business. So you are basically outside while having your beverages, eating, and hanging out. They have TVs and air to keep you cool. It's a great spot to catch up with friends and not feel like it's so loud you can't hear one another. They do have special beers although we stuck to common ones. The wait staff is friendly and gives you space to relax and hangout. read more

Had a bad evening here yesterday on multiple levels. With the number of bars a short distance from one another, this place is an easy pass. The service was very slow and unfriendly. Our waitress had one-word answers to everything and never gave us a smile all night. I felt like I had done something wrong by seating myself in her section--sorry? It wasn't even a crowded evening, so I couldn't give her the benefit of being slammed at work. It took a few minutes for someone to notice us (fine, we had seated ourselves like the sign out front had requested), but then we had to wait another 10 minutes on our beers after ordering. If I'd known, I would have walked over to the bar myself and avoided table service from the get-go. After we'd emptied our pints (20ish mins after receiving our beers initially), we could not get the attention of our waitress to come over and take our orders for a second round. I had been contemplating getting some food at the time but when our waitress did eventually come by, her attitude was so sour and off-putting I decided to stick with beer and save my appetite. After our second beers were done, my husband and I both agreed to head to one of the bars next door to get food since the atmosphere in J&G was so unwelcoming. It wasn't just our waitress either.. it seemed like all of the support staff had scowls on their faces. I was watching, who I assumed was, the manager that evening and he seemed oblivious to the bad service that was taking place right in front of him. I was hoping for a standard Irish Pub homey feel but ended up leaving disappointed. Instead, this Irish-themed bar just came off as a manufactured gimmick to get people to stop on Rockrose. The staff felt like they could care less about their customers. I've been treated better at bars on 6th street at their peak times, even. Glad we left when we did and had a better time at Lavaca Street Bar a few doors down. read more

While I was at Kung Fu Saloon across the way I noticed this busy spot just calling my name! I'm known to try any Irish, English or German style pub just to see what they have on tap. It was a decision I will never regret. I took a seat at the bar and I was quickly greeted by the bar staff(helloooo nurse!). I was in the mood for something to eat so I ordered the Fish n Chips and out of the 82 beers on tap I got the Franzeskaner Dunkel-Weiss. If you love hefeweizen beers you must try this one! It's delicious! The food came out and it was awesome! Freshly fried fish served over a bed of mixed waffle fries(sweet potato and regular) and sautéed garlic green beans! The fish was delicious and I just couldn't get enough of the fresh green beans! Compliments to the chef! Throughout the evening I got to taste over 6 different beers and got to talk about different stouts and ales with their bar staff. They're not just pretty faces...they really know their stuff when it comes to brew! I was on a time table so I had to split early but I was very impressed with the customer service experience and with the delicious quality of the dishes served. Oh and of course their marvelous selection of brews on tap. Oh and one more thing.. be prepared to be freaked out on the way to the bathroom! They have an awesome see through floor that shows the keg room! It looks like a scene straight out of Metal Gear Solid because of the green tint! Trippy and cool! read more

Rock Rose is such a great addition to the Domain! I've been to Jack and Ginger's twice now and I absolutely love it! The first time I got the wedge salad(the bacon on it is soooo good!) and the wings. The second time got a pretzel(it's HUGE!!) and was there for the Footy Brunch. I got the breakfast in Purgatory and it was perfect! I love the ambience, has that whole dark Irish pub thing on the inside with a lovely patio that has Whisky barrels for tables. Irish pubs aren't my thing normally but I had to stop by for the outdoor ambiance. The food is alright, but the fried fish batter should've been lighter and crispier instead of spongy. I took half home and crisped it up myself the next day. I am just now starting to go back out in public and this place definitely needs to take COVID-19 more seriously. The waitstaff walk around with their masks down and stand far too close to take orders without their masks on as well as hug up on each other. Killed some time at J&G while my iPhone was under repair. The beer selection is good, lots on tap. There's a ton of outdoor space, a long common table, a fair-sized bar, and several regular tables. Service was good, but it was 4 p.m. on a Monday, so it wasn't crowded. The patrons were pretty laid back then, but I'm sure is nuts on a weekend evening. It was basically hipster thirtysomethings showing their parents around at that time of day/day of week. Funny. There are only three TVs (that I saw) but they are big, and had sports on (Cubs game, random sports show, basketball news show). It's not a sports bar, but if you only care about one game, and they are showing it, you'll be OK. They had $5 appetizer deals going, and I got some wings. They were OK, but had way too much sauce, making for messy eating. But the wings were huge, so you got your money's worth. Service was good. read more

I've been here a couple of times since I've moved here in 2018 from Dallas. It is a nice bar to meet up with family and friends. Although; my husband, brother, and I came here for drinks and received the worst experience from the bartenders at the bar. As soon as we walked in and sat down we weren't greeted or even asked if we needed anything. It was almost like they were intentionally ignoring us. Two of the ladies even had nasty attitudes. After awhile there was a nice woman by the name of Alysa who noticed at the bar. She asked me what could she get me and I told her what we all wanted. I found out she was the bar manager. I thanked her and she said you're welcome. Alysa made our night by her being so kind. I don't know if this was just a bad night for the bartenders but hopefully the next time it will be a better one. read more

So excited to have a new bar open up in the Domain Rock Rose area! I came here on opening night with a few of my friends and we were a bit surprised by how packed it was on a Thursday night. They have a huge beer selection on tap here + their beer menu suggests more obscure beers based on popular beers you like! We started off in their outdoor area, but quickly moved inside when the cigarette smoke got too much. Once inside, we ordered the jumbo pretzel to share and my friends got the Guinness ice cream float. The jumbo pretzel is perfect for 2-3 people to share and it came out super fresh and hot! But it was nothing special to write home about. I didn't get a chance to try the beer float, but it looked really yummy! Based on the pretzel, it seems like their food is pretty decent. The service was exceptional, especially since it was opening day. The bartenders are attentive and our server made sure we were well taken care of. When my friends were overcharged for their ice cream float, we expected them to just readjust the bill. However, the manager went above and beyond to comp their dessert! I love love love this place for happy hour! The $7 beer flight is such a great deal, and they always rotate the beers so you can try a new craft brew each time. The outdoor patio area is perfect for getting a breath of fresh air after a long day at work! There are plenty of TVs around if you're looking for a beer and a place to get your sports fix. If you wanna grab dinner and drinks with a friend, there's also "nicer" booth seating inside. My favorite part of the bar is the glass floor that shows the kegs in the basement - it's quite the exhilarating walk when you're a handful of beers in. Only reason this place gets 3 stars is because they have an ok beer selection, it were a restaurant they would be getting 2 stars. The food was pretty pathetic, hard to mess up an Irish Breakfast but somehow they manage it. The portion of black pudding is pathetic, the pudding itself is grainy and super low quality, the Sausage is more of a hot dog than anything, and the bacon is american bacon rather than proper Irish bacon, which is not tough to get, sliced fresh tomato instead of proper peeled and boiled tomato, and the beans were just ok. Honestly the best part of it was that the eggs were properly cooked. My friend had the Ginger's shepherd pie and it was a disaster. First off it says it is made with braised short rib which is a flat out LIE, if it does contain short rib at all it is ground and indistinguishable from ground chuck. I would wager a guess that it is a short rib blend which has the fat from short rib and meat from round or chuck. Either way, you cant really braise ground meat so it doesnt really matter, this stuff is cooked in a pan with crap tomato sauce. Roughly mashed bland as hell potatoes top this sad meat with literally a sprinkle of cheese that looks as if it was melted in the microwave, it certainly is not baked at any point after it is assembled, which is shepherd s pie blasphemy. Conner, the bartender, was awesome as hell and super welcoming, the whole staff seemed to be pretty awesome, so they do have they going for them. In the end, I would say do not come here for food at all, at least not the stuff that is supposedly Irish/British It is a cool chill spot for beer though. read more

If you are going with a big group and try splitting your bill without an attitude from your server, good luck - go elsewhere. We had a decent tab that we wanted to split between a few payments and our server made a snarky comment about splitting the tab. We didn't ask to split the bill by item, we just wanted it split evenly. Sorry, not everyone that comes to Rock Rose is a baller shot caller. I was a server for years.... you don't say this to your patrons... unless you want a crappy tip. I always try to tip 20% or more because I know what it's like to be a server. It wasn't that busy and we only ordered once.... we only got checked on once after we got our drinks. I would understand if we were a complicated group, but we weren't. Do yourself a favor and skip this bar. A friend and I went there to grab drinks (the margs are awful btw) and we told the bartender we were on separate tabs. After one drink we decided to close out and the bartender only brings back my friends card and charges her for both our drinks. We told the bartender she made a mistake and double charged my friend and to just bring my card back without charging me. She gave my card back with no receipt or anything so I assumed she didn't charge me, I venmoed my friend for half the tab and we left. The next morning I check my account and she ended up double charging my card as well. I could understand if it was a really busy night she may have just gotten them confused but there were only a few other people there. Anyway the vibe there is weird/trashy and the drinks and service are pretty bad. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

HORRIBLE! I sent a cease and desist letter for damaging my reputation! The temperature was 106 and I dampened the back of my neck in their bathroom sink to cool off before I placed an order. A woman with greasy hair who cannot understand English and can barely speak it accused me of washing my hair. I spoke to a manager who seemed reasonable offered to give me an application because they're hiring. I gave her and bartenders expensive mint candies as a thank you and filled out their 4 page application. I was there for two hours in total. I was asked to look at a camera for my picture and wait for an interview with the hiring manager. I was nervous about getting my picture taken and wanted some time to prepare for the interview. I excused myself and said I'd return after I smoked a cigarette or two. The hiring manager apparently took offense, tracked me down at 77 Degrees, lied to them that I had been kicked out of Jack & Ginger's for a "washing" my hair in the bathroom and that I needed to leave 77 Degrees as well? Selection of scotch is good as they offered Laphroaig and decently priced at $10. Our server was very attentitive and constantly checked on us. Well I tried to order 4 shots and 1 beer from the bar. They were quick to take ol Ben Franklin. But the second I attempted to confront them about my change I was physically assaulted. Met with combative behavior. And ultimately they stole money from me. What's funny was the police put me in hand cuffs making claims of "witnesses" but when I was in hand cuffs multiple people came over and asked if I was ok after getting assaulted. Typical bar food, but the french onion soup is on point. It never takes me over a couple minutes to get a beer at the bar, granted maybe it's because I'm a girl. My friend and I came here during a recent trip to Austin. It was a great space to sit and have a drink outdoors but not be baking in the sun. They have SO many options for beers on tap, it was really fun trying all the local beers from Texas. The bartender was working her butt off taking care of not only the bar but patrons at tables as well. For a Thursday afternoon they were pretty busy. We wanted to bop around to a bunch of places in the Domaine (we were on vacation after all!) and she gave us a great suggestion for the bar down the street. Been here many times but, it only takes 1 bad experience. Tossed out for fainting from the heat/dehydration. I had ONE beer, sipped the 2nd and immediately got the shakes. As I was being told to leave, I stated TWICE that I would like to close my tab. Forced out soon after I took 3 sips of water, but couldn't because my knees were wobbly. Almost fell outside and hit my head. Not one helped except for a black gentlemen whom he picked me up. You guys need to be more aware of your customers. The place was one of the reasons we moved to The Domain. We love Irish pubs! The first visit, we went inside. It was early in the day and not busy, but it might as well have been packed for how slow our waitress was. She was also short and seemed more interested in moving along rather than helping us. Our second visit, we sat on the patio. The only server was the bartender who was clearly pissed off that we wanted beers only available on the inside taps. "I have to go inside for that." - eye roll annoyance included. Our third, and final visit was 12/01/18 during the Red River match. We arrived shortly after opening at 11 and sat inside. While we were served quickly, that was the only positive of the visit. Our food was dropped off with incomplete cutlery and condiments, making us fetch what we needed. The waitress removed my husband's first beer when dropping off the second - it still had beer in the glass. She was just awful. She was also the same waitress from our first visit. We are never ever going back. The service and cost combined is ridiculous. Our waitress got a small tip the first time, but the last two visits, the tip was zero. read more

we got kicked out within 5 minutes of arriving at this bar. We were hungry, and were told that they serve food still (it was kind of late but they told us their kitchen was still open)... The six of us sat down and there was no server in sight.. for a while. My husband went to the bar to ask if we had a server, and he was told that it was bar service only. Ok, no problem. But then, a server (blonde/blueish hair) came up to our table and gave us food menus and drink menus and just kind of walked off. She didnt spend more than like 10 seconds at our table, and barely said anything at all. No hi, nothing. A few minutes later who I presume to be the manager came up to us and said "shes not going to serve you because you guys are drunk." A few things here: 1. we were NOT drunk. Like at all. 2. We weren't interested in ordering alcohol anyway, we were hungry. 3. Why were we given food menus if the kitchen was closed for the night? This guy was so rude to me and my friends and basically just told us to leave because they wouldn't serve us anything- food or drinks. Overall: Terrible customer service, very rude waitstaff and management. They don't care about getting your business at all.We will NOT be back to this place and will definitely look elsewhere to spend our money from now on. This is my favorite bar of all time. I come here at least 5 times a week. I am a manager for a restaurant that has domain and downtown locations. I love the atmosphere and the staff at jack and gingers domain. I know Kelly, Fran, Alyssa, Marcus, Mandy, Jace, Big Dave and SOOOO MANY MORE BY NAME. Unfortunately, tonight I watched the owner be a complete a**hole to his staff. I was sitting right next to him while he disrespected his bartenders because they would not make his drink before the tickets of the customers. He said "we will see if you have a job after this" to the bartender. I have never written a review but I was so beyond disgusted by the actions of someone who should support his staff. These hard working people are the reason he makes money. This man obviously has no clue how to treat the people that came to work in a pandemic or while we are in the middle of a state wide crisis.
