Gord and I had supper at Hunters Landing on Fort York Blvd. Gord had Landing Carbonara (house-smoked chicken, bacon, fried egg, Parmesan, spaghetti, focaccia). He said it was good but the egg was overcooked. I had Maple Chicken (maple marinated roasted half chicken, herb fingerling potatoes, onion gravy). It was good but the chicken was overcooked. I was expecting a half chicken but got a boneless breast with a wing attached and a boneless breast (no leg) ... hence the dryness, I guess. Good experience. I was having trouble booking on OpenTable but I called and was able to secure a reservation. Our table was ready when we got there and it wasn't too busy despite the jays game just finishing. Everyone enjoyed their food! I had the Moroccan curry chicken. Fabulous! Delicious food! Great Happy Hour cocktails! You name it, everything was perfect right from the making of a reservation for 18 people. The place is large with a selection of tables inside and out on the sweet patio surrounded by baskets of flowers. All staff was above accommodating everyone at every moment! Nikki, our server was as she mentioned, "the single bill magician". She was just fantastic and all smiles doing a hard job keeping everyone happy. Kira, our host, Alicia, Egypt and all staff were so kind and fun to be around. Mom and I were walking along the Harborfront Centre area and found this spot on yelp. I am so happy we found it because it was a vibe! We opted for outdoor seating because it was absolutely nice outside and the seating area had high tops with nice lights and umbrellas. There are also heaters for the winter time which were pushed aside as it's summer. We had burgers and the food was delicious!!!! We also ordered drinks which were worth it! I would recommend this spot as the food was served fast and the staff seemed very friendly. Came here on a Sunday around lunch. We wanted to go to the restaurant next door and now see why that place was packed and this restaurant wasn't. It's a sports bar so I shouldn't have expected much. The only nice thing was the host that seated us promptly at a nice booth away from the sun since we had our 4-month-old baby with us. We were given a menu, we took 5 minutes to pick what we wanted and was ready to order. We waited about 15 minutes as we saw our server go to every table except ours, not even a single eye contact. Our section only had like 3 or 4 tables so I'm not sure why the service was so bad. Well once my boyfriend flagged down our waitress we ordered a pitcher of the white sangria which we normally wouldn't order but just felt like it today. I got the Seared Tuna salad and he got the hunter breakfast plate. We waited until our food came... but where was our drinks? 1 minute later a women I'm assuming is the manager came by to ask us how our first few bites were. I told her it was okay and my partner mentioned that we never got our drinks. She asked what we ordered, we told her and said it was okay we don't want it anymore as our baby was getting fussy and we already started our food. His breakfast was not very filling as he still felt hungry afterwards. The Chorizo was cut in half length wise.. where is the other half? The bacon was not crispy and neither were the potatoes. My salad lacked presentation. I could've plated this with my eyes closed. The placement of the Cucumbers and tomatoes look like a preschooler decorated the plate. The mango chutney in my opinion didn't go well with the dish, it actually ruined anything that touched it for me. I would not recommend coming here as the service and food were terrible. It's the summer season in Toronto and it's no surprise when the first few patios you hit up are booked for private events or slammed with people. We wound up at Hunters Landing for this reason. They have a big patio with high tops and umbrellas that looks out onto Fort York and Canoe Landing Park across the street. This makes for amazing people and dog watching. Speaking of dogs, the patio is dog friendly and there were a lot of pooches enjoying the outdoors with their owners. There was a chance of rain that day and it got really gloomy on the patio. We asked to be moved inside and it was easy for us to make the switch. The inside is pretty nice too and there are big glass windows that can open up like doors so you can kind of emulate sitting outside. We shared a dip trio app this time which had 3 different dips and dippables. It was a combination of an eggplant (babaganoush style) dip, a hummus, and a red pepper cream cheese. The scoopers included garlic toast, soft pita, and tortilla chips. My favourites from this were the red pepper dip and the garlic toasts - I could've had a full app of just these. A tip - if you sign up to use their wifi, you can choose to give them your email and a few days later you'll get a coupon for a free appetizer later. read more

The mascarpone cheesecake with berries was absolutely delicious. Whipped to perfection, just the right sweetness in the cream, and the right level of tartness from the raspberries. In fact, everybody had their share of my cheesecake. Drinks were good. Food was great from the cauliflower wings to burgers. My sister gets up to use the bathroom and she comes scurrying back. Kids at another table hop out of their seats trying to find this mouse. We told our server about the mouse and he promised us that they were an absolutely clean establishment. They had the patio garage doors open earlier while they were moving furniture and the mouse must've come in for warmth. Seems likely. We've been here over an hour and only got one round of drinks. The waitress (the one w the piercings) is quite rude and standoff ish. Learn some common courtesy before you enter the service industry. It's unfortunate that my first experience at Hunter's Landing was a bad one. I really wanted to like it because it's in a prime location with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. I also really liked the vibe/decor of this bar and grill. Too bad I won't be returning. We were looking for somewhere to eat on Saturday night and gave them a call to see if they had room for reservations. They said no and told us that we could just go and wait for a seat. We were staying at the condo across Hunter's Landing so we went to go check anyways and it was pretty empty inside. When we arrived, the two hostesses at the front were just chatting. They didn't really greet us - just told us to go inside and sit anywhere and went back to talking to each other. The music inside was so loud that we couldn't even have a conversation. Our server came to greet us and she was very friendly, but she was basically shouting the entire time because it was so loud. She did go turn the music down before coming back to take our order so that was better. There were about 8 of us so we ordered our mains plus a pitcher of sangria to share. One of our girls in our group is allergic to strawberries and we made that clear to our server who advised that while none of the dishes we ordered contain strawberries, they do have strawberries in the kitchen so she'd make a note of it just in case. Our food and drinks arrived and all was well until my friend started feeling a little itchy. Then we realized that there were strawberries in the sangria. The menu mentions "seasonal fruit" and after advising them of the strawberry allergy, you'd think that they would omit it. We called our server over right away and she was saying something like she didn't make the connection. She apologized immediately and called her manager over, who comped my friend's part of the meal. While we could she really was genuinely shocked and sorry about the situation, it still is a huge mistake and it's a lucky that my friend's reaction was not life threatening. read more

Hunters Landing was an absolute nightmare to spend my birthday at. I will never be returning. We made reservations for 1pm, and got there right on time. Walking up Fort York Bvld, you can find their patio first and finding a way in can be difficult. We stand around awkwardly at the podium set up by the patio until a server comes out and tells us to go inside to the front desk. We do, and are greeted by a friendly hostess who wishes me a happy birthday (as they had asked if there was a special occasion for the reservation over the phone). At this point, I expect the restaurant to be a pleasant experience given the friendly and welcoming people working here. We're seating by the doors, having a nice booth that has the sunlight but avoiding the direct wind. The restaurant is not busy, but isn't too dead either. That being said, it takes a while before our server reaches us. When he finally does, he introduces himself and grabs our orders and drinks. Moments later, our food arrives and this is where things start to go downhill. The runner who brings our food has three plates and places the first two down no problem. The last one is mine, and when setting down the plate, she doesn't notice my glass of iced tea under it and knocks it over, causing the glass to break and the tea to spill all over my (WHITE! :( ) shirt. We're all shocked and the runner stares at us and goes, quote, "oh! uhh...I'll be right back!" but she never comes back. Our server does while I am wiping myself down and he is surprised, with no knowledge of what happened. I am annoyed that the runner hadn't at least notified our server of what had happened, and hadn't even returned. We stand there awkwardly as our server cleans the table. I feel like during this time, someone should be reseating us while someone else cleans the mess but we watch him clean the table, as he voices that the booth should be okay after. Wouldn't the booth table and seats still be incredibly sticky? Not to mention the puddle of iced tea we were standing in. We ask to sit outside instead. Our food attracts bees and it makes our entire meal unsettling, as we are swatting insects the entire time. No one checks up on us the entire time, regarding food or post-spillage incident and no one issues an apology. After the incident, I felt the servers and runners had suddenly became cold, as if the spill was /our/ fault though it wasn't. The food was mediocre to me, though my friend who got the same thing said she enjoyed hers. My other friend said her burger tasted like plastic. I am given another iced tea, in a smaller glass. Service is awfully slow and lacking a sense of customer service. When trying to get the bill, we had to ask twice to two different servers and are forgetting about until one of my friends goes to find him, and he remembers after having eye contact with her. Again, the most upsetting part of my experience at Hunters Landing was that no apology was given, and nobody had cared to ask if I was okay though there was broken glass involved. Came here last night for a birthday dinner for one of my best friends, and while I do recognize that a large group can be problematic to deal with (especially given that we did have a couple extra people show up unexpectedly), the restaurant was undoubtedly understaffed in general for a Saturday night dinner rush. First off, it took almost 20-30 minutes for my table to simply get our orders in after we were seated. And perhaps another half hour wait to actually get our food. The food in general wasn't bad; I especially liked the calamari, and the steak was cooked a very nice medium rare, but it certainly would've tasted better if it came out a tad warmer. The server who took our order also did so without writing anything down which is impressive, but she did get one of the pizza orders wrong, leading to my friends who ordered it wait an additional 15 minutes while everyone finished their meals. Getting the bills afterwards was another complicated process. Overall, well, I was not very impressed to say the least. I can't say I completely blame the servers or waiters - I could see them constantly running around the entire night. However, I do believe there is some disconnect between effective management, training, and staffing. Once again I'll reinforce that the food truly was quite tasty, but I'm not sure if I'd be coming back again unless someone informs me that the service has made a drastic change for the better. read more
