In Westbrook, right on West Beach there is a shack selling barbecued ribs and such, this is Hog Wild Smokin Cue. This is steps above from typical food sold at beaches. We were a party of four, we got a platter of ribs and a platter of brisket with fries. One of them came with a small serving of coleslaw. This was a lot of juicy ribs. This is for sure well seasoned with a good kick. It's good to have cool water on hand and plenty of napkins, this will be messy. I enjoyed the fries, they're home cut, crispy and well seasoned. I have to say as far as coleslaw, they provided the tiniest amount. The brisket was equally juicy and very tender. Here you can sit on their benches and enjoy the view and sounds of the beach while you lunch on Hog Wild. The location might be the best part. If you're at West Beach, Hog Wild will feed you well with ribs and other tasty grills. read more

Ordered a full rack of ribs, chicken dinner, and hot wings. The ribs were very tasty and had a good smoky flavor. They were a little dry if you did not add additional sauce to them. The hot sauce has quite a kick. The chicken dinner came with carrots and oven roasted potatoes, which were very good. The chicken was moist, but and good, but nothing special. The hot wings were the typical hot wings. I thought the prices were very reasonable for the amount of food you received. The staff was friendly and there was plenty of free off street parking. Beach shack bbq! My family bought a summer home in Westbrook, and my first trip to the area we went to the beach and tried the bbq! It was very good! I got the pulled pork sandwich , YUM! Very disappointed to say the least. I had pulled chicken and my husband has the brisket. Both platters were cold like just taken out of the refrigerator and put on plates. Onion rings were greasy and soda flat. Spent $40 but the convenience of the location doesn't make up for the poor quality of the food. read more

It's a firm "no." The place has such potential. It's a shame they fall so short! I was the first customer of the day; first-time visitor. I ordered the pulled-pork sandwich. Waiting for it to come out, I was thinking how good it all smelled as they smoked the food outside right next to the shack; but, I was ill-at-ease with all of the workers smoking cigarettes while cooking and preparing food, and swearing and carrying on about nonsense. They have a prime spot on the waterfront, too. However, the food was a complete and total bust: the pulled pork was COLD, DRY, and probably from yesterday! The BBQ sauce was the only flavorful part of this experience, but it had been refrigerated and then doused over the cold pork meat. The bun was warm, but toasted, and too crispy. The coleslaw was bland, boring, and flavorless. And so, this place gets added to the DNR (Do not Return) list! read more

Found this little place on my recent trip to Westbrook. Excellent location and good BBQ. It is directly on the water and I don't know it they allow BYOB, but I did and nobody said anything. I would recommend trying this place if you are NOT looking for anything fancy. Picnic tables and reasonably priced BBQ on the beach. Oh, and I saw them make the fries from a whole potato! This BBQ food stand has an excellent location right on beach in Westbrook. The view is amazing, and the food is pretty good as well. I'm a fan of the ribs and the BBQ baked beans, and the smoked wings are also tasty. I wasn't as impressed with the Brisket, though, which seemed overcooked and tasted more like pot roast than real BBQ Brisket. I'll definitely want to come back and try the rest of the menu! read more

Food was okay. Our family had the 1/2 rack, the brisket, pulled pork and a hotdog. They didn't have cornbread - kind of a staple with bbq. It was nice to look out over the water, but I definitely have a preference for another bbq place in CT. read more

I have been going here since they opened. John, the owner/headChef is passionate about his Barbecue. I enjoy all his food but my favorites are his " Pig Wings" ( kind of a cross between baby back ribs and smaller pork shank) hand cut fries, dogs, Brisket. Pig wings are melt in your mouth good. The beach, great view, delicious food what more do you want? I'm simple I like good BBQ, they have it! Our family ordered a variety of goodies, we had pulled pork and fries, and chicken, and sides. Everything was so good. We have a child that is a vegan she had the fries and beans, and Cole slaw and she was very happy! Waited a long time to try this place. I was very disappointed. The beans were not worth ordering ... like mush. The half rack of ribs were dry and three pieces were inedible because the meat was so dry and hard. Cole slaw was good. I am still waiting to find real delicious BBQ . I cannot understand the high star ratings. Can it be me? Once one has great BBQ then a standard has to be met. The sauce was like soup and not very flavorable. View of the sound is great. Impossible to eat outside on a windy day,wings tended to be hotter than expected,hot dog arrived in the messiest condition wrapped in tin foil,chicken sandwich had truly tasteless lettuce/tomato. Best ribs I ever tasted in my life and everybody I take here says the same thing. John is a master chef. If you eat here once you will dream about hogwild forever.
