I contacted this place regarding an oil change using my own supplies. Typically this place only does oil changes using their supplies, but they made an exception for me this time. Linda and Abel made the process super easy and quick. I arrived right as they opened and I was out within 30 minutes. I paid a fair price for what I needed. Great shop, great people! Had a problem where a rat (or mouse?) ate through some key wires in my engine main compartment (wires to one of the cylinders). As a result, engine was shaking (since one of 4 cylinders was not firing) and engine check light came on. Early on, a little googling told me this might be a spark plug problem, but I took the car to the dealer (since it's still under warranty, 2019 Genesis G70) and the dealer immediately saw it was rodent damage, not a spark plug problem. I.E., the fix was not under warranty. Dealer wanted more than $3000 just for the part (the whole wire harness, super expensive, but that's what the dealer is for, to replace the part with a new one and make it all perfect again). I'm too embarrassed to say what the labor cost they quoted was. I could have used my insurance but my deductible is quite high. Was really vexed about what to do so asked for advice on Next Door. One person mentioned this shop and it is relatively close to me (meaning, I can walk there in 30 minutes) so I gave it a try. It's a small shop run by a really nice couple, Abel and Linda. They fixed it in a day for a reasonable price (soldering the wires as others who know what they are doing had pointed out to me was possible) and were super friendly about it and very very nice! I admire these folks taking a shot at running a small repair business. Keep them in business! We all benefit from having them here! (One note: the shop can be a little hard to find if you are expecting it to be in a mini-mall or something similar; it is actually at the north end of a residential street, just at the south end of, and across the street from, the South Pasadena light rail stop.) My 96 year old mother-in-law living in South Pasadena, CA needed service on her 1998 Toyota Corolla. I live in Flagstaff, AZ, and finding a reliable, fair and honest auto repair shop in her area would be a challenge. Jack's Auto Repair was recommended by one of her neighbors, so I gave them a call. Jack's offered to drive her home after she dropped off the car for service and also pick her up at here residence for a return trip when the repairs were finished. The issues with the car were diagnosed within an hour of leaving the car and I was called with a quote that was very reasonable for the level of repairs needed. Linda, the front office contact, was very helpful and understanding. Kudos to her on her customer contact skills which are extremely rare these days. They now have a repeat customer. read more

Linda is the nicest person ever and I would not hesitate in bringing my car back here. I needed a new AC compressor, which is not particularly cheap to replace, and AC is basically mandatory to have during SoCal summer. Linda was soooo understanding and worked on her end to find me a cheaper replacement, saving me over $100! Abel, her husband, got the work done in a very decent amount of time. There are plenty of shops in the area to sit, eat, or shop if you need to hang around, although Linda did offer to drop me back home if needed. Bring your business here. I have been coming to this garage for years. My whole family has for decades because Frank's work was top-notch. I recently got a new car right before the pandemic started and hadn't had it serviced at all since. I knew I needed to, so I called up the shop to get an appointment and learned that Frank had retired! It was a complete surprise, but I spoke with Linda, who was absolutely lovely, and she told me to bring the car in on Monday morning (I called on a Friday afternoon). I was in and out in about an hour and a half. Abel checked it out and said the car was good to go and didn't really need any servicing past my tires being rotated! I'm so happy that Abel and Linda have taken over the garage; I can't imagine taking my car anywhere else and I completely trust them and look forward to seeing them in the future. read more

I called this auto repair shop looking for Frank to check out my car. A friend had recommended him to me. When I found out he retired, I decided to still give this place a shot. The wife Linda was great! Friendly and knowledgeable! I brought my car in to her husband Able and I'm happy I did. He replaced the steering wheel pump and replaced a belt. He did a great job! As this was Friday and one of the parts did not arrive in time Abel came in on Saturday to finish the job before noon. Linda kept me informed every step of the way. We have an '86 Jaguar that needed brake repair. My husband called to get an estimate. Lots of red flags at this business that led to basically Frank outright bullying my husband. He asked for an estimate for the back brakes which Frank Gonzales quotes him $200. That's a fantastic quote so we made an appt. The next day my husband called again and said, "hey remember me I called about the rear breaks. I'm late but can I still bring it in?" "No you said front brakes." "No I said back brakes." "No you said front brakes." This went back and forth for awhile. Most likely because Frank realized it's a lot harder to access the rear of the Jag than the front and he wanted to charge him more. Why would we say front?? And why is there an argument about this?? So we bring it in and Frank says he doesn't know how much it costs but he'll get back to us. My husband doesn't feel good about this (Frank has been rude to him several times) so he calls him back and wants to know if he'll charge us for labor if we don't decide to do repairs there. Frank calls back as soon as we pull into our driveway (about 5 minutes from when we dropped off the car) and quotes $25. Ok fair but we don't wanna do it because something is off about this guy so we go back to pick up the car. Here's where it gets twilight zone. Frank comes out swingin'. "What do you do for a living??" "I'm a musician." "Would you play for FREE??" "Yeah sometimes I do, why?" "Would you play for free, HERE??" "Why would I do that? "Do you expect me to do F***ING work for you for F***ING FREE??" "I've had bad experiences before..." "WHERE??" The whole time Frank's grown up son is giggling like a 3rd grader. My husband just leaves at that point because that conversation is going nowhere. Super rude, super unprofessional, super weird. If F-bombs were cupcakes, he'd be Sprinkles. When all F-bombs die, they go to a farm in Frank's mouth. Frank Gonzales did zero work but acted like we were ripping him off. Our car was in his lot for all of 10 minutes. We made the right decision by not giving our business. Clearly the 5 star reviews here are succinct and generic like most fake reviews. It is misleading like it mislead us. I haven't had my car serviced as yet. But the owners were very kind. They quoted a fair price, but wanted to check it themselves. ( I had an estimate from another car service). Linda answered the phone. That's a plus that someone answered. She was kind and professional. She told me that she would set an appointment for her husband, Abel to check it out thoroughly " just to make sure that all that was wrong with it was accurate." She also did not want to charge a ridiculous amount that other places wanted to charge ($90-150 and average was &120). She was reassuring and since I was a client of the previous owner, she said there would be no charge. (That day, my bro-in-law, who is a chemist and was an auto mechanic, checked my car and said that the first place was incorrect. Only 1 of the arm bushing was cracked and none were broken.) so this is why I canceled the appointment at Jack's to get A second opinion from my original that was at another location. When I called linda , I also spoke to Abel, her husband. They were both so understanding and said they were glad I didn't have to pay anything for that said that anytime I needed a mechanic, that I could count on them. They wish me well. Honestly, they stand out as being one of the nicest, if not the nicest, fairest, honest, and professional mechanics that ever answered the telephone. No attitude at all and willing to work with customers. I recommend you check them out. I know I will. read more

Beware of this repair shop. This shop is next door to my work so I dropped off my recently purchased used car out of convenience, and a level of trust because his daughter used to work with me. He did a tune-up that replaced the plugs yet neglected to even check the plug wires, which were bad. When I left the car with him, I mentioned that it sounded like the tappets were making noise and that it was missing badly. He gave me clean bill of health on the car. After getting the car home, upon checking the engine myself, it turns out the oil was two quarts low. Four of the sixteen valves were also bad. After my encounter, I started hearing other employees' stories - unfortunately too late for me. I will not be using the services of the shop again, neither will a number of other employees here. read more

I pulled in here one day to see if I could get a diagnosis of the clunking noise my little sports car was making. I wasn't even sure it would fit on his lift -- but he got it up there. After a lot of probing and pulling, nothing was loose, so the noise was still a mystery. But when the car was lowered, the location of the noise was clear as weight was put put back on the wheels -- a bad front shock absorber. I'd been chasing this noise for weeks, so it was a relief to find the cause. I was not even asked to pay -- but I did anyway because he'd spent 20 minutes under my car.
