I'm so glad I finally made it in to try Jack's Bakery!! Jack's Bakery specializes in Armenian pastries and food. He has three varieties of Baklava- the traditional pistachio, walnut, and almond for $2 each. I tried the pistachio and almond ones today, which were delicious! One of the best I've had. The Knafeh is to die for!! For $8, and about 7-8 minutes later, it comes fresh out of the oven. I sat and ate it there, hot and fresh, with gooey fresh made cheese he makes right in the shop... not mozzarella like other places. It is absolutely amazing... a balance of crunch on the outside, and soft, gooey, and slightly salty cheese on the inside. Yum! There are a variety of baked goods on the table inside you can buy to bring home- they range from $9-12/box. I can't wait to come back and try their butter cookies with pistachios on top! They also have food here, and I will definitely be back to try the lahmajun (Armenian mini pizza topped with beef, onions, and tomatoes) and other items. AMAZING FOOD AND FRIENDLY OWNER! We had heard about a traditional disk from Georgia (the country, not the state) and had to try it. Unfortunately, we arrived too late in the day and they were sold out. However, we stayed and enjoyed an amazing meal. The shish kebab was the best I've ever had. It was so flavorful and tender. The pilaf was stunning. The side vegetables had a nice dusting of sumac. The wonderful owner, Jack, provided some made-from-scratch baklava that was utterly delightful. Jack's Bakery & Eatery has been a favorite of ours since we discovered the spot in 2021. In 2023 we decided to have Jack's cater our son's first birthday party. It was a huge success. Our guests could not stop commenting on how delicious the food was, and many asked for the location. The amazing thing about Jack's is that they offer several vegetarian and vegan options that are incorporated into the delicious Armenian cuisine. Jack and his family were incredibly hospitable and helpful in deciding the perfect balance of food to serve to 80 people. Jack even offered to make items that are not on their menu to compliment other dishes. My husband and I are incredibly grateful to have found this place. Review for baklava I came here to get some baklava. I don't see how people say it taste good. I foolishly bought a whole box of it because I was craving it after having had delicious ones elsewhere thinking they all tasted similar. I was sorely mistaken. The piece is so small I didn't feel I could ask for samples without feeling I was trying to get something for free. Which explains why I bought a slew of them. I wasn't offered any samples either when it was clear I didn't know which was which. The man used his bare hands to pick them and place them in a box and even sneezed before that. I didn't wanna be rude and say something because he already looked impatient when I was deciding which to get. Not that I am a germaphobe, but you gotta admit that is kind of disgusting. Anyway, the baklavas ended up tasting stale and drenched and oozing with sugar and oil. Worst combination ever. I don't know if they used honey or brown sugar, but it tasted pretty awful. Way way too sweet enough to put you into a diabetic coma. I ended up holding on to the box for a day before I finally decided to throw it out even though that was money thrown away because it is not worth getting sick over. What really stands out here is the fantastic service! The owner is such a kind soul, you instantly feel welcome and are treated like royalty your entire stay. The prices are very fair, we ordered much of their menu and everything was delicious. Such a hard working family, I love that they open early, not many places where you can get a home cooked meal this early in the morning. Both the shawarma plate and wrap were good sized portions for the price, the food does take a bit, but everything is cooked to order. Their Armenian pizzas are amazing, the cheese manaich was our favorite. I suggest stocking up and taking them home, they keep and freeze well. I have been coming here on weekends after playing flag football to get something to eat. This place has my heart and is the first on my mind when it comes to Mediterranean food. My favourite plate has to be the chicken kebab. The veggies that come with it are grilled and seasoned to perfection. Absolutely mouth watering veggies. Another dish I recommend is the adana kebab, didn't what it was one day and Jack recommended it to me. WOW. We came across this Armenian bakery on our way back from the beach and honestly it was the best decision we made that day. Such a lowkey location but their food and desserts are A1. The owner is also insanely nice and makes you feel like family :). The hummus plate was authentically delicious with its variety of spices added but the dessert we got was unbelievable. Kanafeh: Insanely mouthwatering, with the added crunch from the outside, in the middle is the most flavorful melted cheese coated with honey plus the added pistachio on top.... A coworker recently mentioned that we needed to try Jack's out since it was not too far. Knowing that it was on the way to work for one of my coworkers they agreed to pick up our order that consisted of Lahmajun, Manaish, Baklava, and Kufta. Everything was well seasoned and tasted pretty good. Out of all the items that we ordered, I had only had baklava before, so everything else was new to my palate. I would have to say that my favorite item was probably Kufta, the Lahmajun and Manaish were both unique and def something that I have never had before. If you are staring at the menu at Jack's, and do not know what to order just ask Jack. I heard that he is probably one of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life. 1. Food: Food is amazing! My fiance and I got the spinach boyreg (item 4), shwarma sandwhich (item 12), three lahmajun (item 7...aka Armenian pizza), and the adana kebab (item 13). We ended off on dessert of kanafeh which to be honest I didn't know was a dessert when I ordered it (found it through photos on yelp). Its a noodle-like pastry on the outside filled with cheese on the inside covers in some sort of sweet syrup and pistachios. It was amazing and I would highly recommend it! SO GOOD. 2. Location/environment: This place is a hole in the wall located in a strip mall. I had no issue finding parking coming in for lunch on the weekend. There are 3 tables inside each seating 4. 2. Service: Jack gives his 110%. He is very friendly and talkative. It honestly surprises me how friendly and nice he is since I have never gotten this kind of service anywhere else. He's very easy to talk to and I found out that he open this bakery in the late 80's! Jack's an amazing man. 3. "Zero Waste": They provide plastic knives and forks. Jack gave us the forks and knives and he was very very understanding when we told him we didn't need it (because we brought our own). He agrees that we only have one planet and we need to take care of it. :) The adana meal was on a Styrofoam plate but the kanafeh was served on a real plate. Everything else we received on those silver platters lined with parchment paper. I will definitely come again and try all the food! Service and food was amazing. I am a Vietnamese American that grew up in Orange County, but I have had a lot of exposure to Turkish food, Greek Food, and food of other middle eastern countries. My wife and I were particularly craving a Georgian specialty dish called Khachapuri, and we thought this could only be found in LA. To my surprise, I discovered this restaurant right next to my home in Garden Grove. It is definitely a rarity to find a restaurant in this area that serves up middle eastern specialities like khachapuri, lahmajun, knafeh, and even the more well known baklava. Everything I ordered was delicious and authentic tasting. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Jack, and his son, Ara, and both gentlemen were very kind and welcoming.
